    Hello, I am quite new here. I am comparing both of these and are asking owners of each of these how they like it. What are the differences between the GT80 and the Sager NP9377-S/Clevo P377SM-A (weight, design, quality, etc.), I saw while customizing that the sager was cheaper and I could get dual 980 gpu's in it for the same price as dual 970's in the msi. Why is the GT80 worth the around $700 more? I have heard the build quality, sound system, great stock IPS screen and of course the full size mechanical keyboard are better for the GT80. One thing I really like about the sager is the socketed cpu so I could replace that in the future if I wanted. Also is there any other laptops you would consider "competitors" to these? I am in the market for a high end gaming laptop such as these.
    Thanks a ton! -Charlie

    You pretty much nailed the differences Charlie. Its up to you to decide if that makes the additional cost worth it to you. The GT80 is also 18.4" - the thing is huge which can be a pro or a con depending on personal preferences. MSI's lack of upgradeable CPU is a sore spot because not only is the CPU not replaceable, its TDP locked so there's no way to force turbo on it so that fancy 4980HQ that turbos "up to" 4GHz? It could get stuck at 2.8GHz under load.

    The only competition to these two laptops is the P750ZM (Sager 9752) which actually utilizes desktop CPUs, including the fantastic 4790K and has options for a 15.6" display that is either matte IPS or 4K, which decked out with the 4790K, FHD IPS display, 980M SLI, 16GB of DDR3-1866, 2xCrucial M600 512GB hard drives in RAID0, 2x1TB 7200RPM mechanical hard drives, and a 330W PSU (there is an option for 230W or 330W, highly recommend getting the 330W so you have some room to work with) comes in under 2900 bucks.

    There's no competition for these machines.

    Not only is there the socketed CPU benefit, but there is also the benefit of the fact that a 120Hz screen is possible to be used for the P377SM-A. If you wish to buy it from a reseller in america that sells it with the machines, you are limited to Eurocom, but you can buy it aftermarket and install it yourself i you wish to do so. The 120Hz screen is *THE* best panel for laptops available right now, being 5ms response time, 72% NTSC colour gamut (the highest for matte 17" and 18" screens) and it has a good brightness and great viewing angles for TN panels on it. This would really drive home the 980M SLI that is possible to be used.

    Please also note that the P377SM-A uses mSATA SSD slots, unlike the problematic M.2 drives available in the GT80. Some M.2 drives get exceedingly hot which is a worry some users have, but mSATA drives share no such disability, and are fairly cheap these days.

    The P377SM-A also has a thunderbolt port, if that is worthwhile to you. It also means there is no displayport 1.2 on the machine, which is a downside compared to the GT80, however.

    Also, if absolutely necessary for some reason, a second 330W adapter can be used by the machine. It is also possible, if CPU overclocking and CPU cooling is very important to you, to use an older model's heatsink combination for the CPU and the 2nd GPU so that the GPU runs a bit hotter (does not matter with maxwell) but the CPU runs much cooler.

    The P750ZM and P770ZM are single-GPU models and cannot use SLI

    Indeed the only other SLI system is the p570wm only sold by clevo now. Desktop x79 platform which is another size class above the 3xx series machines.

    Hello All Again!

    I finally have my NP9377-S dialed in...finally playing some games...and I must say the 120 refresh rate is awesome, and I absolutely dig this rig

    I ended up running RAID-0 on two MSata Samsung 840-Evos
    and I'm using the SLI 880's for now (might upgrade to 980's later once price comes down significantly)

    I downloaded a program called "SpeedFan" (v4.51), and it basically gives me all the temps of the hardware.

    My question is this....is there some sort of baseline or standard set of acceptable numbers (temperature wise) for GPU's and CPU's?

    My GPU's under load are running at 71C to 85C, and the CPU Cores are running at 81C-87C

    I am assuming this is acceptable. Is there a way to change the limits for the fan speeds without a mod? Are the temps and fan speeds typically controlled by the stock bios? or is there software that is windows based that throttles the temps depending on load?

    Thanks in advance for any more info!!

    It's controlled by the EC which is partnered to your bios. Fan adjustments can't be done without a mod and your temperatures are normal.

    Hi! I can say that those temps are the same as I saw on my machine out-of-the-box. I repasted with Gelid Extreme and saw a drop of around 10c on all units in normal use gaming.

    You should have a hot-key override for the fans that switches them to max, Fn-1, if it's the same as mine. I use this when benching and although max temps do eventually climb it takes a lot longer to get there. Way easier to use than messing with fan tables IMO.

    HTH.

    As far as questions go...

    Whats the performance difference between the 4810MQ & 4910MQ? Is it significant in practice? A quick look at a few benchmarks showed a ~10% difference.
    I will be using this machine for music production (FL Studio), DJing (If there is an absence of CDJ's.), heavy gaming, video editing/processing, and streaming. I'm essentially not looking to need to replace this machine for 3-5 years. Considering I've used an ASUS G73JH (HD 5870 mobility) for 4 years I wouldn't think it would be an issue. Lol

    What exactly is the difference between the Sager warranty offered, and the "2 Year Parts & LIFETIME Ltd Labor Warranty 24/7 Tech Support w/ LCD Accidental Damage Protection"? Aside from the obvious LCD protection of course. Is one specifically Sager and the other(s) go through XoticPC, or whats the deal? I looked at XoticPC's warranty page and I couldn't really find what the differences were.

    How's the track-pad on this beast? Lol
    I tend to use the track-pad a lot in games, and for general use even though I have a Razer mouse for games which simply don't feel good with a track-pad. (Mostly FPS games.)

    How much of a difference will Rush Build make? On average how long does it usually take to receive the machine without it? I'm trying to get this as fast as possible since my ASUS is slowing me down. =(

    Other than these few questions I am greatly looking forward to ordering this machine!

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Hi TomJGX,

    I got my NP9377-S from secondhand from a guy who purchased it direct from Sager (he had receipts and I verified the warranty with a phone call to Sager). I know that Sager sells them, and a place called xoticpc.com. I'm not sure what other places might sell them.

    Hello all,

    I did a google search for
    "H13-1TB-S7

    2.5" SATA 1TB(7200rpm) HDD"

    and didn't come up with a brand.....I am trying to figure out what brand of hard drives came with my sager (I put samsung ssd's in the msata slots), and I'm thinking about throwing dual ssd's in the other two slots. I guess I could just crack it open and take a look to find out, but I though it was weird the brands of HDD's are not listed on the Sager website (but the info above is what's listed on the receipt/invoice).

    For your usage the 4810 will be plenty. Honestly the 4710 would probably be enough as well but it never hurts to have a little extra.

    Sager warranty would have repairs done through them while ours through us. We also add on LCD accidental on those options listed with it which is something that Sager doesn't offer direct. With either you have full access to utilize our support team through email and our 24 hour phone support.

    Trackpad isn't intended for a whole lot of gaming use so probably not going to find a whole lot of feedback in the gaming aspect, most people here will balk at even the thought of it.

    Standard production is currently estimated at 7-12 business days while rush is that stated 1-4 business day estimate.

    Let me know if you have any other questions!

    The 1TB HDD is the HGST Travelstar 7k1000.

    @Kainez
    Trackpad is okay enough I guess; mine is different to yours so I can't judge. Ask Ethrem for a better idea.
    4810MQ = 3.6GHz 4-core turbo; max OC = 4GHz on 4 cores + 6MB L3 cache
    4910MQ = 3.7GHz 4-core turbo; max OC = 4.3GHz on 4 cores + 8MB L3 cache

    No other real differences.

    You can call and ask XoticPC what their special warranty is like

    Rush build can get you your machine quick if orders for them are piling up.

    If you are a livestreamer, I *HIGHLY* suggest looking into some aftermarket cooling mods for that machine. The 4910MQ will be a better processor for certain. The P370EM CPU heatsink and P370EM Slave GPU heatsink can work very very well with 970Ms or 980Ms which are very cool at stock, and can keep a CPU quite cool even under the heavy load that is streaming.

    I also suggest (if you want) that you look for the 120Hz screen for the machine. It is the LP173WF2-TPB1 and it is an LG panel. You will need a 50-pin eDP cable to install it. Buying the machine from Eurocom nets you the ability to get this in the configurator, but Eurocom is more expensive.

    I also suggest Liquid Ultra for the CPU if you're going to be doing some streaming, and Prema's BIOS mod for the system so that you have more full control over the CPU (voltage, amps, etc). This machine is the best mobile-CPU-using laptop on the market which can take both SLI and 900M series cards without issue. You will not be disappointed. I SUGGEST 3 YEARS OF WARRANTY HEAVILY NO MATTER WHERE YOU GET IT FROM.

    @Derek@XoticPC:
    Thanks for the response! That clears things up regarding the warranty, as I was unsure how exactly it would work if I went with the Sager warranty through Xotic, or with Xotic's warranty.

    As for the track-pad, I expected as much. Every time I mention anything about using it while gaming I always get "Wtf" no matter the occasion. It ends up becoming this big spectacle of what's, how's, and why's. It can be pretty entertaining at times. Lol

    @D2 Ultima:
    What sort of temperature differences would I be looking at if i were to replace the heatsinks? I'm not really looking to do hardware modding right out of the gate. A few months down the road when I get a feel for my machine, sure.

    Indeed, Eurocom is much more expensive. I was slightly interested in a 120hz panel, but again not really looking to modify hardware for at least a few months. Where would you suggest to look for the monitor & cable though? A quick search on google brought me to eBay & PaneLook. Searching for the cable via google brought up some threads here and on TechInferno.

    That Liquid Ultra stuff is scary, but insanely good from what I've read. Lol
    I'm not experienced with repasting GPU/CPU's so liquid ultra was on the bottom of my list. I'm completely okay with learning how to repaste first with IC Diamond should the need arise.

    Of course 3 years of warranty of warranty! I forgot to switch it back over when I was playing with the configuration.

    As far as the Prema's BIOS mod goes, I was looking into it, but I was going to wait a month or so before trying anything like that.

    Nonetheless, I did end up ordering my machine today! Went with the 4910MQ, a bigger SSD, and a proper length warranty. I'm feeling pretty good! Now the agonizing wait begins for it to arrive at my doorstep. =(

    ~10 degrees celcius or so less CPU heat, 8-10 degrees more GPU heat on the slave, but maxwell is very cool so it should not matter (for everybody except Ethrem at least).

    You can buy the panel from Eurocom and the cable, or from Clevo Extreme Gaming.

    CLU is not hard to apply; you just need to be careful. Mr. Fox has a guide about it in picture form here: http://imgur.com/a/JUQvK/embed#0

    As for ICD repasting, it's not hard. You should use Arcticlean or 90% isoprophyl and soak the ICD on the die/heatsink for a couple minutes, then wipe off. If all does not come off, don't fight it. Soak the rest again, then wipe off again. It'll be easy.

    @joluke: Thanks for making the wait even worse! :p

    @TomJGX:
    I will most definitely look into that. I fit shaves off a few more degrees and keeps my machine safe from a potential Liquid Ultra screw up. Lol

    @D2 Ultima:
    Wow, that is quite a significant decrease in temperatures on the CPU. =O That is definitely moving to the top of my list of potential upgrades down the road.

    Eurocom & Clevo Extreme Gaming... Will definitely save those pages off for future reference.

    That guide makes it a lot less scary. From what I saw there Mr.Fox to re-pasted with Liquid Ultra after 5 months. Is that normal or just for heavy over-clocking?

    Just to add about a repaste, I tried out gelid extreme last week when I got a new CPU. I thought while I was there I'd repaste both the GPU's as well. There was a drop of around 8~10c across all devices under load. The original paste was only a month or so old and was Eurocom's premium paste. Arctic Silver IIRC.

    I also looked at Liquid Ultra but I was also nervous about those tiny 'escapees' that could trash a machine :eek:.

    Hey guys.

    I've noticed if I'm playing games in sli and have vsync on to 60fps with games maxed out my gpus run average 68c-70c Wich is great . Mind you this is with auto fans . If I take vsync off and let the gpus run wide open my fps go way up but the gpu Temps run 78c-80c with auto fans. If I run max fans with vsync off the gpus run 71c-73c .
    Same goes for single gpu mode. With vsync off Single gpu runs 78- 80c with auto fans and 71-73c with max fans. This is with farcry 4 and stock vbios and latest nvidia driver. Is this roughly same behavior as you guys are seeing ?

    He repasted because he wanted to do testing again. It has been a couple months on my laptop with CLU and I haven't seen temp degradation myself.

    Lol the CPU is 4940MX... As for Liquid Ultra, there is really no need.. Your not some hardcore bencher so Gelid will be good enough :)

    Thanks, fixed! That's what I thought, it certainly was an improvement and I'm not looking to get super high numbers, just super cool gaming :D.

    Hello all,

    I feel like a little kid....finally finished my rig. This is my first Sager....the NP9377-S. I ditched Win 8....and put Win 7 Ultimate....I have four ssd's, two samsung 840 500 GB Evos running RAID0, and two samung 830 running raid 0. It's fast. I have the 4910MQ processor, 16GB ram, and the sli dual 880's. I posted my temps a few days ago, you guys said mine are in spec....

    How often should I repaste the gpus and cpu? (currently it has IC Diamond)
    I am currently playing the Evil Within, and DAIII, and the highest settings run flawlessly. I will probably wait at least a year when the price drops to go with dual 980s...but does anyone know if future gpu's will work with this board? It doesn't seem like the fans are even running at 100%, so am I cool just doing what I'm doing, or with this rig, is it recommended I use a cooling pad? If so, which ones are really good?

    In regards to partitioning tables....mbr versus gpt? I know gpt is newer, and recommended with hard drives over 2TB....but is there a recommendation with ssd's in RAID 0? Now that I think about it.. my 840's are mbr, and my 830's are gpt (both arrays in raid 0) Is there any performance increase with the gpt? is there a drawback to having part of your system mbr and another gpt?

    This is my first time running raid 0, and I am completely aware of the differences between 0,1,5, etc......and I am aware that if one fails you lose data from both in the array...I am assuming though, that if one fails....you can just format the good one and in theory buy an identical replacement and start over....(I've got everything backed up so I'm not worried about losing anything super important)

    @MickyD1234:
    Wow, that's quite in improvement. Any idea how IC Diamond stacks up against Arctic Silver? Not exactly sure which type of IC Diamond Xotic PC uses.

    All of this stuff is still relatively new to me since I started researching on and off around summer last year.

    @D2 Ultima:
    Ah, I see. Do you have any estimate on how long it's suppose to last?

    I also think what TomJGX said would probably apply to me. Lol Liquid Ultra strikes me as a product for hardcore benchers.

    ICD does not need to be repasted once the current application is good.
    You can simply buy a replacement SSD to replace a RAID, yes.
    CLU is good for me because my country is hot as freaking hell and with CLU the absolute max I can force on my CPU under any condition and any heat of the day is 82 degrees celcius at stock with an undervolt, which is great for when I render/stream/whatever.

    6 months to 1 year is the recommended time for repasting with CLU as far as I know, just to prevent oxidization of what's on the heatsink. It does not need it otherwise.

    I still want a 4910MQ and I want 4.2-4.3GHz daily speeds with an EM heatsink and you can bet your last $1000 that CLU is the only thing that will let me keep max temps around ~90c whenever I get that setup working. That's just me though, but I am indeed not a bencher and likely never will be as long as I am in my current situation.

    There is really only one type of IC Diamond. The 7 carat and 24 carat are the same thing, just different size tubes.

    We have had better results with IC Diamond vs AS so we use that instead. And as mentioned it will be years before you need to repaste it, if you ever do.

    Hello all...I came across the option to configure the "volatile volume cache mode" for my ssds....and I read through the different options. It is off by default for I am assuming what is a performance boost, however, it seems that enabling "write through" would eliminate the possibility of a crash on the raid 0 (a crash from a power supply or writing error)

    Does anyone know if by enabling write through, if there is a significant performance decrease? or should I just leave it as is?

    BASIC INFO PASTED BELOW:

    Configuring Volatile Volume Cache Mode

    This feature allows you to configure a cache mode for volatile volume cache on an array to achieve optimal performance. If a volatile cache volume does not exist in the storage system, the Volatile Volume Cache Settings subsection does not display.

    Be default, Cache mode is off. If you configured a RAID volume with write-back cache, the Write back option displays as enabled.

    Follow these steps to change the cache mode for each volatile cache volume in the storage system:

    1. Click 'Performance', and then click 'Power & Performance Settings' in the left pane.
    2. Under Volatile Volume Cache Settings, locate the volume that you want.
    3. Click 'Modify' next to the Cache mode property.
    4. Select one of the following cache modes:
    · Write back

    This cache mode improves the read and write performance of a RAID or recovery volume. In write-back cache mode, the RAID controller acknowledges write I/O requests immediately after the data loads into the controller cache. The application can continue working without waiting for the data to be physically written to the hard drives.

    If your computer is running on battery and a recovery volume is present, the option to enable the write-back cache is not available because the recovery disk is offline and data updates are not available. If this feature was enabled prior to running on battery, write-back cache activity would be temporarily disabled until you reconnect your computer to the power supply.

    · Write through

    This cache mode improves data security since the system assumes the data is available only after it has been safely written to the disk. Data is always written to the disk at the same time that it is cached.

    · Read only

    This cache mode provides faster read performance because the data is retrieved more quickly from cache than from the disk. The controller reads the cache information to determine if the requested data is available in the cache before retrieving the data from the disk.

    · Off

    No caching.

    Ok this might be a stupid question but have mercy on me.

    At last I ordered the new Acer 1440p monitor I mentioned in an earlier post. I will be connecting this laptop to this new monitor and intend to run it with the laptop open for cooling help. My goal is to accomplish the following objectives which is what I want help with:

    1: I want only the monitor screen to display when connected, laptop lcd turned off.

    2. The cards should support gsync. I think I fiddle with that in Nvidia control panel.

    3. If I close the laptop can I use a wireless headset for sound?

    Running windows 8 so not familiar with how best to achieve this. Basically I am going to be running my laptop with an external mouse, keyboard and headset when using the external monitor and would like some guidance on getting this up and running. Any help would be appreciated.

    Windows 8 has an option option for "Projector only." You can select it from the Windows display settings or by using the hotkey for toggling the display (FN and F7).

    Here's the official page with links to various info on how it works and what you need: http://www.geforce.com/hardware/technology/g-sync

    Sure, just disable the option that prompts the computer to go to sleep when the lid is closed. As long as it's running, it should still be fully functional.

    Thanks for your detailed help this is great.

    One question on tbe protection mode - I read that if you have two screens on it will default to the slower max refresh rate of one. Will utilizing the projection mode theoretically allow me to use the monitor at 120 or 144hz so long as the primary screen is disabled per the above.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Does your guys cameras on your laptop have lens covers on the front and back camera.
    Mine has a lens cover on the webcam camera but the camera on the back of the lid doesn't have one. ?
    I called xoticpc were I bought the laptop and sent them an email with a picture and he replied he wasn't sure if that was the way it was supposed to be and he would get back to me.

    how could that be missed before shipping? these are things that worry me they say QA's are done but it seems like quite a few people receive their notebook with initial problems from the get go and I know its probably like that with any brand but still when you spend so much money its hard to see not getting a perfect product.

    Thanks for picture conformation meaker.

    The guy at xoticpc had me send my serial number of my laptop and my address and said if it was supposed to have one he would make sure to get one sent to my house.
    I'm very impressed with the costomer support or service I have received so far from xotic pc . And from all the support from these forums.

    To be honest when I got the laptop I remember pulling all the protective plastic taps of the screens and cameras fired up my laptop and played with it for half a day before I realized it. For all I know it was on there when I got it but when I pulled off the prtective plastic it might of came off with it. Not sure. Or it could of been missing from the get go.
    I checked the trash I threw all plastic in and inside the box the laptop came in but with no luck.

    Yah, but still I don't think it should just come off like that if it did....and its not just this its other posts on here that worry me, don't get me wrong I am going to still order this laptop but still it just makes me worry a lil but still there is no way to get anything close to this laptop in another brand...thanks for clearing things up the thing that helps that some of the worry away is the fact that it seems all the vendors are always ready to fix any problems, just hope that after I spend 3 grand that I don't have to send it back for something to be fixed that should have been noticed before it was shipped out, thats all I am worried about. Keep us updated on how things go, take care!

    I felt the exact same way you did when I bought mine maybe even more so.
    Because the alienware 17 I bought in 2013. Spent 2500 dollars on it and had to wait a month for it to finally arive at my house. When I finally got it I turned it on a played around with it for about half a day and it just turned off a never came back on. Finally got a replacement a month after that. So I know exactly what you mean .

    Well cool thanks for telling me, glad to know I am not the only one who feels this way, I know if there is something wrong I will beable to send it back to get it fixed, I just hate the idea of having to do that to a brand new laptop that I just spent my hard earned money on saving for months and months only to have to send it out and not have a laptop after I just dropped 3 g's that would be highly upsetting but it looks like that's the risk you have to take to get a high end machine like this.....1 other thing that upsets me a little is its a beastly machine but just a standard display, I don't understand why if everything is so customizable and high end why can't we get a high end display or at least have the option to get one if that's what we want.....the only reason I have bought the laptop yet is because I am holding out to see if any other displays will be offered anytime soon....dunno how much longer I should hold my breath on this tho, so I think I will hold out maybe 2 more weeks or so and if one isn't offered by then, then I am just going to go ahead and pull the trigger and buy it then...again thanks take care! Do you have any advice for me as a future buyer of this beast?

    Get the 3 year warranty .
    You should be able to make 3 years until you need to upgrade again if you get 980m sli. That's my plan.
