What BIOS version is it showing?
For 3D you may have to re-install the driver or even an older version, maybe nvidia forgot to put all 3D licenses in that version...

Ah. I remember that. I was going to wait for Summer, but my wireless card on my D900F is starting to be very wonky. It's crashing and I have to disable/re-enable and restart my PC (or it bluescreens shortly after) to get it to work. Happened 3 times within 24 hours. So I might have to try to get it very soon. It's not a decision I'd wanted to make, but I'll see. It's up to a loaner for me XD.

I was hoping that by august or so I'd have gotten a haswell revision of the model, but I'll be perfectly fine with a 3740QM otherwise.

72c on your 7970m is actually pretty low. Most people report a max of high 80s to low 90s.

As long as thats underload thats a great temperature and nothing to worry about. If it were idle speeds then those are a bit high.

Hi all, new to the forums so apologies if this is the wrong thread.

I'm looking at purchasing either the Clevo P170EM or the P370EM whenever Uncle Sam decides to send the tax refund check. I've been leaning towards the P370EM with a single 680m GPU with the intent of adding a second 680m for the SLI down the road (under 6 months). I'd like to know from you guys; Is this a viable course to take? Would it make more sense to stick with just one 680m and go with the P170EM model?

I'll add any details you guys might need in helping me with this decision, and ty for any future replies!

Hey there and welcome to the forums!

What you want to do is a perfectly viable course of action and we've been seeing a lot of people take advantage of that upgradability.

To anyone who enabled RAID on it, how are the temps? I have 2 750gb 7200rpm HDDs. I'm planning to RAID it soon when I buy a MSATA. Speaking of MSATA, any recommendations? Thank you!

Setting up raid wont make the drives run any hotter. You're not asking more out of them, just splitting up your data.
If possible skip the mSATA and go SSD in primary and HDD as secondary for back up. An SSD will still be faster then either a mSATA or RAID 0 config. mSATA's are limited in their speed because of the SATA II connection on the motherboard vs SATA III on the hard drive bays where you can put a SSD.

Thank you for that info, I also wondered about that mSATA drive...What should it be used for as it is only SATA II?

Sata II doesn't mean SLOW you know. Mechanical hard drives don't access the full power of either SATA II or SATA III usually. A mSATA SSD will still be quite fast. Not AS fast as a SATA III one, but still fast. So don't worry too much about it I believe. But if you had the option of buying an SSD in EITHER the primary OR the mSATA slot, the primary bay is better.

You could use your other machines to reprogram the modules.

Does the np9370-3d have different modes to run in 3d or 2d? Or does it stay in 3d all the time?

They're all going to treat you a lot better than the stock card. I use the 6235 myself and have no problems with what it offers. It's going to have the same 300mb/s speeds as the 1202 and they'll both be 2 antennae modules. The 6300 and 1103 are both 450mb/s cards but lack the bluetooth that the 6235/1202 have. What's cool about the 9370 is that you have bluetooth built into the mainboard and so losing that on the wireless module won't affect you much. Bigfoot cards are going to be pricier but they also boast the feature of prioritizing gaming packets that reportedly decrease the latency in games giving you the possible advantage over your opponents. You'll see people on both sides of the fence saying that the BF cards do indeed help and you'll see some that say it doesn't. I haven't seen a definitive side by side of the two cards to say for sure either way, but from my experience the Intel cards are going to be more reliable driver side and offering plenty good performance for the cost, so I tend to recommend them over the BF cards.

Derek, thanks for the info on the wireless card. What's your opinion on going with 3d model vs. the regular with a 120hz screen? I'm not real crazy about 3d but for the $ difference it wouldn't be bad to have in the config I would like to order. If it plays in 2d mode as well. Thanks,

That'll be more personal preference than anything. I, myself, am not a huge fan of 3D as the technology is right now and so I wouldn't mind in the least not having that on my system where as the 120hz monitor would be very nice to have and I wouldn't mind that at all. Keep in mind as well when going 3D you effectively cut your framerates in half when you have it enabled since it has to produce the two offset images for the stereoscopic effect.

Congrats! One thought though, if you switch out the Msata for a SSD in either the primary or secondary bay you're going to get much better performance and for pretty much the same cost. If you want to do the switch on the configuration, let me know and I'll help you get that set up.

Hi, I just got the Sager NP9370-3D. (It's my first laptop and the first time I'm using windows 7.) I read the quick start manual and started to install the drivers and ran into 2 problems. The first, when I tried to install the Hotkey driver, it gave me 2 errors and stopped. I know that Sager has posted a newer version, so I can download that one later on and installed it. I skipped Hotkey and started installing the other drivers. I got to the Wireless Lan Module driver and ran into another problem. The manual states to make sure the wireless lan module is on (press Function + F11) - the onscreen indicator flashes off so I press Function +F11 and it turns on - however the led on the front of the laptop remains off. I start installing the driver and it stops, giving me an error to enable it first. I have no idea on had to do that so I stopped. I have other drivers to install but I want to fix the wireless lan module driver before proceeding. I'm not sure if Sager had already install some or all of the drivers already - on 2 of the driver installs, it uninstalled the previous one and installed the one from the driver's CD. There's also 2 short cuts on desktop - one for the Killer networks card and another for the soundblaster - so I'm a bit confused.

Did you try installing the wireless drivers by having the indicator in the other state? Did you make sure to install the windows 7 version and not the windows 8 version?

All drivers should be pre-installed if you order a version with the OS.

I didn't try to install in the 'off' state - I can try that. I made sure to use the windows 7 drivers disk. The laptop came with windows 7 ultimate (64-bit) already installed. The instructions state to install the drivers - so that's what I did. If Sager had already installed the drivers - that should have been stated and saved me some time. I don't know if I screwed up the Hotkey drivers or not.

If you have Windows preinstalled by Sager then all the appropriate drivers should also be preinstalled. Have you tried to connect to your wireless network or does it at least detect them?

I actually don't have a wireless router (yet). I didn't know that Sager had pre-installed the drivers. I was going by the instruction book that states to install the drivers and that's what I was doing. When I got to the wireless lan driver, the instruction book states to turn it on and then install the driver and I couldn't seem to turn it on. (The Bluetooth led does turn on briefly when I power up.) The last drivers after the wireless lan are: Fingerprint Reader, Bluetooth Module, TPM, and Soundblaster Audio (there's a shortcut on desktop for the Soundblaster audio). I wanted to check the under System (?) to see if these drivers are already installed so I don't have to install them. This is my first time using windows 7 (I have being using XP for about 10 years) and I'm having some problems trying to find stuff as windows 7 has made changes from XP.

On my desktop, I had customize XP and split Program Files 2 into another partition on the boot drive and My Documents, Desktop, and IE favourties into another partition on my data drive. I wanted to do the same with windows 7. This is my next step, however with the changes to windows 7 this make it harder for my to do.

To verify what drivers have been installed I would just get into device manager and check from there. Right click on "computer" and pick "manage' then "device manager" form then just click on which parts you want to verify and see if its listed correctly. If they are there then the drivers are installed, which they should be anyways.

I just finished far cry. I didn't really like crysis 2 so I don't care to play 3. My wife was playing dead space 3 and didn't look like something I care about either lol. I haven't really played any games since hl2 which was like 2004 so I've missed a lot since then. I feel like I need to play catch up. Any suggestions?

As far as I know, Crysis 3 has more open-worldness than Crysis 2; something like a mix of 1 and 2 I think. But up to you. If you want games that make you think, or give REALLY long stories with accompanying challenging gameplay, you won't find many. Dishonored is one though, and you could check out Fallout 3 and New Vegas. As for the others... meh. Try Far Cry 3 I guess? Almost no endgame content though. I have trouble recommending games to people the last couple years.

Can anyone give me an indication of the battery life on the P370EM when using a single 7970M GPU? All the benchmarks I've seen are based on SLI/XFire setups...

Battery time will of course depend on what you're doing. With a single GPU you'd expect battery life similar to the previous generation 17.3" which didnt have switchable graphics. So roughly 2hrs on minimal use, 45mins-1hr max underload.

Crysis 3 is a series of more open environments linked by single pathways so there is one route but when you get to an environment you can approach it the way you choose.

Can anyone who has 2x7970m running in crossfire in their NP9370(P370em) please comment on how reliable the Zero Core technology is and how well it works for them? I've done a bit of reading up on it and it seems to be a bit hit and miss...

This is frustrating... Every time I think I've decided on what I want in my laptop I read something which completely throws a spanner in the works. I really want to stick with AMD because they're much more cost effective and also because of their stronger GPGPU support(which'll be utilised more in games in the future). But all I keep reading are horror stories about their drivers.
Which pushes me back to the 680m, but that won't be as powerful as the crossfire 7970m's.
I could just stick with a single 7970m for now, but the upgrade kits are so much more expensive than if I was to buy 2 of them from the start. Plus all the kits I see don't even include the extra exhaust fan(unless that's built into the laptop by default).

Bah, first world problems can be so frustrating! ;)

Haha, I know the pain. The cooling system is still going to be in the system whether you get the second card or not. So you're right that the upgrade doesn't come with it, because it's already there. AMD is the best bang for the buck but the SLI/xFire of both are going to be pretty comparable for the time being. As time goes on support for one over the other may make a difference but for now they're roughly equal. Even with Zero core, this thing won't be getting any power saving awards and you'll want it plugged in most of the time anyways. I wouldn't let this throw you off the AMD track.

Thanks for the feedback, it's nice to have someone in the know to bounce these 'complaints' off of.
I think I'm getting a bit too caught up in this because I can actually afford the more expensive stuff even if I don't actually need it. In reality I'm primarily a console gamer, not a PC enthusiast so having the ability to absolutely crank everything to max isn't really that high on my agenda(although of course it'd be awesome!).
So with that in mind I think the best thing I should do is get the P370EM with a single 7970m for the moment(paired with the i7-3740m CPU), as I'm assuming that will still be enough to play pretty much any game I want with most of the snazzy stuff still turned on(correct me if I'm wrong though), whilst also keeping enough battery life so that I can watch a blu-ray movie whilst I'm out of the house. This of course leaves the option open to upgrade later if need be as well.
