If you mean by selecting 'enable device' in device manager then yes. Many times.

I have also tried numerous drivers through device manger, all give same error message.

I do not see them in the manual. What is the bluetooth shortcut? Though I think this is a bigger issue than that. Worth a shot though. I want my bluetooth back!

I'm interested in a P170SM with a 780M, but currently reviews saying that the noise level is annoyingly loud prevent me from clearly deciding in favour of it. To those who own this machine, what's your experience? Have there been any EC updates that improve the fan control behaviour, will there be any soon?

I am not sure what to go with. So far my 3 systems I am pondering over is the NP8275-S, NP-8295, or the MSI GT70,2OC-065US. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am trying to stay under $1400 with at least a GTX765/GTX770 card. I also don't want an ugly laptop lol at least a color changing keyboard. Anyone have any comments or suggestions that might sway me? I will mainly be using this laptop for gaming only. Thanks!

    YES!!!

    IT ACTUALLY WORKED!!! :D

I'm so relieved. I was beginning to fear that there was some sort of hardware fault. It works fine now. No idea what I did differently this time around. Very odd. I wish I could pinpoint what the magic fix was so I would know what to do if it ever occurred again in the future, but unfortunately I have no idea!

Noise is noticeable, I will say that. Coming from my Samsung which is completely silent at idle, it is slightly annoying to hear the fans constantly whirring (albeit quietly) while the CPU/GPU are both idle on the Clevo. I really wish there were a silent mode for when the system is idle. I also find the fans to be a bit overly sensitive - the moment the dedicated GPU is activated they speed up - even for programs such as GPU-Z. At full load the fans are noisy but, then again, all gaming laptop fans are bound to be noisy - it is just an inherent fact of trying to cool these powerful GPUs in mobile form factor! I do hope for future updates to fan behaviour though. I think Prema will unlock fans control in his upcoming BIOS mod. Well, I certainly hope so.

Worth mentioning that the fans are one of my few complaints about the laptop, along with sound quality of in-built speakers and texture of touchpad. Other than these three things, there really isn't all that much to complain about with this system. Positives far outweigh negatives in my humble opinion. I love it. I am going to produce a in-depth review soon, just need some time to properly get used to the system :)

Are there any disassembly guides for the sager np8295? I cant figure out where the 2nd 2.5" hdd slot is and i also cant find the other 2 ram slots. I assume they are on the top of the motherboard.

Also im having issues installing win 7 on my plextor m5m. For some reason when i have 24gb of ram in it it asks for drivers or something but cant find em. If i take out the extra 16gb i bought from new egg i can see my drives and start the install but it soon stops and says it doesnt have the files needed to continue. Any help?

Hey, sorry for the late reply. According to Multicom it's Clevo's own BIOS.

I skimmed through that thread, but didn't find anything for P170SM. According to Multicom there might be a new BIOS from Clevo though. They wanted me to send them my BIOS version and EC version, but... what is EC?

EC stands for Embedded Controller (Firmware)

I've been playing around with my new P177SM (XMG P703) and found some odd things, I wonder if any of you are experiencing them:
    1. The LED soundbar doesn't work on Windows 7 Ultimate installed in BIOS mode (non-UEFI) but it does work in Windows 8 Pro both in BIOS and UEFI modes. This suggests there might be a software way of shutting it down.

    2. I have the AMD 8970M card, drivers are a nightmare. Tried several versions including the latest beta, if I restart the driver stops working (by this I mean, its still loaded, no errors in device manager, but everything is done by the Intel IGP); if I shutdown then boot back, the driver works properly (I think) (Windows 7 x64)

    3. If I try to go into AirPlane mode by doing FN+F11 it just disconnects the wireless for a few seconds and then comes back up. (Windows 7 x64)

I'm using the drivers provided by MySN on their support website.
Anyone else getting these issues ?

    Hey folks,

a few pages earlier I tried to find out what the pre POST error led blink codes mean. Still no luck. My box remains dead, no BIOS, just the power/ac led goes green for two times and then remains orange. do you happen to know, what this could mean?

tested two diff´rent ram modules, not enough money to get another cpu... but i´d like to know if there´s like a meaning to the 2x flashing code.

    Hi there,

    1. We can't comment on the LED sondbar in Win7 right now, but we can confirm that there will be a software way of shutting it down in an upcoming BIOS update. It's already been tested.

    2. We gathered several reports on this issue today, it looks like the current driver does not harmonize with Windows 7 yet. We reported this to Clevo and we expect a solution - hopefully soon.

    3. This is a new one. We will look into this issue as well although we haven't had any similar reports yet. What WLAN module do you have inside your machine?

    Cheers,
    Tom from mySN / XMG

    1. Sounds great! I did some more testing and found out that the Clevo Hotkey Driver v7.0009 is disabling the soundbar in Windows 7 Pro (BIOS)
    2. Hope so!
    3. Intel 7260-AC, driver version 16.1.0.14, Windows 7 Pro - this also seems to be because of the Clevo Hotkey drivers, didn't test in Win8

Hey guys, so from what I read the system pretty loud ? :/

I was so going to buy that Clevo, actually I was going for a Alienware 17, but Dell canceled 3 of my orders with no reason.. (love to talk to the indian support).

Do you know if there is going to be a new bios with fan options ?
Is it risky to flash a bios on a Clevo ?

How do you get access to the wireless card?

I presume it's under the keyboard and I've found out how to take the top panel off to reveal the top keyboard screws but it still doesn't seem to want to come out?

    1. :)
    2. Which AMD driver are you using exactly? Have you intalled any official Catalyst reference driver? Right now you should only install the Clevo 13.4 version.
    3. OK, the 7260-AC is not yet officially supported by Clevo, but that's going to be fixed.

    Question for resellers...

Does anyone know what kind of connect does the screen in the P170SM have?
I mean, I was looking for instance at this panel: LG Display LP173WF3-SLB3 Overview - Panelook.com
    LVDS (2 ch, 10-bit)

and I just what to know what kind of screens are compatible with this laptop.

    Thank you

13.8 Beta has been confirmed not to work yet with the 8970M in this chassis. Could you try re-installing and using the stock Clevo driver?

i'll try this one and report back. I too have the "not recognising" problem. Also, is the IGPU/DGPU light on the left of the panel, the one next to the HD light, it looks like a speedometer, always supposed to be lit up? The clevo manual said it should only light up if the dedicated GPU is working. Whereas with mine, it lights up from start up and stays lit up.

Anyone else has the same thing? P177SM

Tried Archlinux on it, had problems with the AMD drivers but that should be fixable, didn't spend too much time into it.
Intel wireless 7260-AC doesn't work on linux yet (but it will).
Did not try the fingerprint reader.

Specifically, the Intel wireless 7260-AC driver will be included with Linux kernel version 3.11. I'm running Linux 3.11.0-rc5-00168-ga08797e here without issues. To control the keyboard backlight, you need the clevo_wmi driver.

Hello! I've had my Sager 8270 for something like a month now, give or take a few weeks, but long story short I tried out windows 8.1 and eventually had to reinstall Windows 8. Everything works fine now with one exception: the Hotkey control panel won't work if I update it to the latest version on Sager's website, it fails with an error apparently linked to .NET. I can fix that if I install the version of the driver included in my DVD, but if I do that the keyboard backlights don't seem to work.

Note that I had to disable UEFI in order to manage to boot into my Windows 8 disc and reinstall, and that I know for a fact the keyboard still works on a hardware level since the backlights worked fine when I was installing Windows 8 and only turned off when I opened the keyboard color control and tried to change the colors to test it. Not exactly a machine breaking issue and I guess a driver update from Sager should eventually fix this, but I've seen other people apparently have the issue so I figured I'd ask here.

    So basically

    1) is there a fix for the control panel crashing once it's updated?

and 2) Is there any way to get the CD based drivers to turn the keyboard lights on in the interim?

Finally I'm a little curious as to Sager's driver release schedule since I've had no experience with them prior to this. Can anyone tell me what they're like? I'd appreciate it a lot since I haven't found much cohesive information about that anywhere. Thank you!

If you burned a disk from the upgrade assistant the UEFI booting is broken on that version and you need to patch it.

I have UEFI disabled. I didn't burn a disk from the upgrade assistant; the upgrade assistant said I couldn't use my key with a "retail version" of windows, I guess because my key came with the computer and is thus an OEM key? I ended up reinstalling using the Midern recovery disc that came with Windows 8. Regardless, I think you're right that UEFI is broken. Yet earlier i woke my computer up from hibernation and the keyboard lights worked perfectly for a little while, completely randomly? this lasted until I tested turning them off with the hotkey, at which point i couldn't turn them back on.

Maybe the hotkeys rely on UEFI to work properly, or maybe the control panel is just being weird(I still haven't been able to get it to work after updating it to the Sager website drivers) I can't really tell anymore.

Hey guys, having a slight problem with one section of my keyboard lights :p Even if I select the left section of backlights on the keyboard, they do not turn on whatsoever (the entire section), while the middle keys and numberpad work fine (I can change the colours and everything). Is there a solution for this, I'm not exactly sure how to troubleshoot it...?
    Thanks

You could try checking the connectors by taking the keyboard out and putting it back in again.

Do the Sager's keyboard backlight color options depend on UEFI to work properly? I kind of doubt it because I'm pretty sure this was broken before I reinstalled my system on Legacy, but it's either the Legacy bios or the hotkey driver not working. Also, in my attempts to fix the hotkey driver I noticed that if you go into "Modify" on it there are additional "default features" you can enable, but i have no idea what they are because they're not labeled as anything. I installed all of them for now in hopes that it'd fix my keyboard lights, and they didn't, but does anyone know what that's about?

For some reason the CPU is running at 800Mhz (99.77Mhz clock with multiplier of 8) according to both CPU-Z and 3D Mark. The score on 3D Mark is 4733, which seems slightly low for my setup, although I wouldn't fully know. The GPU is also showing as having 1GB of VRAM, although GPU-Z shows the full 4GB, so I'm not too worried about that.
However, is the CPU activity normal, CPU-Z shows a multiplier range of 8-37, but I've only seen it rise to 3Ghz at most under stress, and even then it seems slightly spontaneous?
    Cheers :D

    Hi there,

I'm having trouble installing the driver for 8970m, first of all the 13.8 beta won't install at all, 12.103 from Sager is the only one would work. But then in device manager i have 8970m and Standard VGA Display, 8970m being marked code 43 (stopped working). And it's not picking it up, please see the screen shot.

    allwins.jpg

After some researching, I found that there is something called Eudora that switch between two GPUs. So I installed the Intel VGA driver, seems worked, no error code, but in dxdiag.exe, the main display is being Intel 4600.
So I tried Skyrim on Ultra, maxed 60 fps, seems working fine, but the driver thing is kind of weird.

Maybe someone can shed some light on me.

    Thank you

Update CPU-Z and you are reading the idle clocks. What is the frequency during use and the temperatures? Do you get any throttle? If so what percentage is the throttle?

Yes I did, my user account is administrator.

And usually during installation the screen would flick couple times and prompt to confirm driver from a trusted publisher (something like that, can't recall what it is exactly).

But the ATI driver didn't have any of these through out installation.

Yup I got it to work under power savings :) Now gotta work out why my keyboard is still broken. For some reason, upon reboot the whole keyboard lights up, but during use the entire left section does not turn on... Not sure what to do.

The driver thing is correct. All programs are only exposed to the intel HD4600 and the GPU is acting like a co-processor and simply slaved to it and is used for the actual rendering which the HD4600 passes onto it, get's the completed frame back and outputs that.

    Good day all,

Just got my P170SM and so far I love it. However, the sounds coming out of the speaker sound like I'm in an auditorium. I've messed with the sound blaster X-Fi MB3 but I can't seem to make the speakers sound good. Can anyone else with experience help me tweak the settings ? Thanks.

    Pete

Have you seen how to change the bass crossover frequency? Also double check all the effects.

I'm not allowed to comment on price, but the video card is the 770M (there is no 770MX that's probably a typo brought over from the last generation of cards that had MX varients) which is a balanced choice for graphics and pairs well with the 4700MQ.

Hey there. Looking to buy a Sager laptop and still deciding between p157sm and p170sm. Just how huge is p170sm? Is it still possible to carry it with a decent backpack or a strong messenger bag? I sometimes need my laptop in my work, but i'm a big guy, so the weight doesn't bother me, I'm just wondering about the dimension and real life feel of carrying that around. Another question I have is would you recommend getting the amd 8970m or the gt770m? AMD seems to be stronger, but I am a bit worried about the technical issues these cards sometimes face. Have any of you tried them out yet. Last thing - I'd love the rubberized finish of the p177sm, but the damn thing is just too flashy. How is the body of p170sm like. Does it feel like it's of high quality, how good looking is it?

On your back the larger notebooks are not too bad and with a well designed bag are manageable.

The 170SM also has the rubberised finish and is much more understated.
