I'd turned off the tray icon but forgot that there were still settings in the control panel -- this totally did the trick. Thanks!

Are the cooling systems identical between the P150SM and the P170SM?
-
Support.1@XOTIC PC Company Representative
Yeah, those two should be pretty identical. The 150 to the 157SM are slightly different and the 170 to the 177SM are slightly different. But the 150 to the 170SM I believe are the same.
-
-
So I would think that the 157/177 would be slightly superior, due to the higher thermal conductivity of copper vs. aluminum. -
The 157SM and 177SM do have better cooling than 150SM and 170SM, but the difference is almost non-existant.
-
I have been having the hardest time trying to find comparable results from my machine. Here is the results of when I ran 3dmark11 on my 170SM / 780M / 4700MQ.

I don't have an aggregate number like yours. Instead I have it divided up by the different stages, ie Ice Cloud, Fire Strike, etc. Can anyone help me out? -

Sorry if this has been asked before. I am looking at getting a p170sm from either pc specialist or pwn pcs in the UK. What are the noise levels and cooling like when playing games? I sent my alienware 17 back due to the 780m throttling and tempted by clevo for uk based support and lower prices.

I've had my Mythlogic Nyx1713/P170SM for about a week now, and I've had some issues. I'm not a gamer but a photographer looking to upgrade my aging lenovo W700 that was having more difficulty with 14bit 24MP raw images. I'm generally pleased with the speed increase in LR, and with the machine itself, but I've had some stability issues that they tell me may be due to putting Mushkin Blackline 1600 RAM in it. They say it needs CL11 1600 sodimms, not CL9, so I'm waiting for some new RAM dimms to see if this solves my problems, although I did a memory test in XTU and it passed. LR5 has crashed on me 4 times (never crashed once on the W700), and I've had some hangs at startup on the Intel Storage screen where I've had to just shut the machine down with the power button and restart. So perhaps the RAM is making my machine unstable, but I've also got an issue with the 2 Samsung mSATA 128GB drives I ordered. I have the OS and programs on one, and the LR catalog and cache on the other. They both bench the same with ATTO and CrystalDisk. The reads are exactly where they should be, but the writes are capped at 139MB/sec. They're blazingly fast up to there and then flatline. Mythlogic support has been evasive when I've asked about this. My direct inquiries go unanswered. I've read that Samsung wants you to run these in AHCI mode rather than raid mode, and my machine is set to RAID mode, but when I ask if this is what's causing the slower write times, the answer I received is "If you know how to convert RAID -> AHCI with no reinstall you can, but if you don't then you can render your machine un-bootable" which is not really an answer. I've read here that Sager is not offering the 2nd mSATA option due to stability issues, and I brought these up to Mythlogic support as a possible explanation, but have received no comment.
So does anyone else have 2 mSATA drives on a P170SM? Are you experiencing any stability issues? How are your write times?
Sorry for the long post, but as I'm new here, I thought I should fill in a bit more. -
Talking about the M-sata issue
Any update on this ??
I opened a thread but have no reply...
I am buying this laptop in 2-3 days but just want to make sure we will eventually benefit of the 2nd M-sata -
Well I think they're definitely right about my machine and the RAM dimms. I ran MemTest for 5 minutes on the Mushkin Blackline and I got 15 errors. I pulled the 8GB of 1067 out of my w700 and put that in and ran MemTest for 15 minutes with no errors. So my stability issues are apparently self created (what a shock!). If I've been installing relatively large programs like CS6 with faulty RAM, is there any reason to uninstall and do it again with good RAM?
As to the mSATA slow write issue, I really wish someone would offer an explanation or reason. Is it possible write time were capped to compensate for some instability? Is it some limitation of the controller? The silence is odd to me. Nobody wants to speculate? -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
I would do a full disk check if you have had a faulty ram.
-
Thanks for the suggestion Meaker. I did a disk check on all drives and no issues discovered.
-
Hey Black Dog,
We sent you an email, want to schedule some time to get on the machine and take a look at the speed issue
thanks! -
Thanks very much for checking into this.

my clevo p170sm was sold with win7 pro sp1 but on the clevo website they only provide win8 drivers. do you know where to find win7 drivers for it?
i'm mainly concerned about clevo hardware related drivers, i can always look for nvidia and intel drivers myself -

thanks for the fast reply! that's great!
i'm not familiar with eurocom, ( i purchased mine at pcspecialists in the uk).
is their eurocom x5 based on the p170sm? -

Hey guys.
I just got a P170SM and am having some trouble with the backlit keyboard.
The drivers all came pre-installed from cyberpowerpc.com and yet I can't get the backlit portion of the keyboard to respond at all. Keyboard itself works fine, just talking about the light.
I can open the menu to play with the lighting settings, change color, tempo, etc...but can only get a "response" from my backlit power key - nothing on the keyboard itself.
I saw on another forum that the old drivers were working to resolve this issue - does anyone know where I can get older drivers for the P170SM? Specifically looking for the hotkey driver. Or, if anyone has experienced this before or thinks they can help me, that would be great. Thanks so much! -
Hello,
Just got my P170SM the other day and so far have had trouble getting the backlit keyboard to work.
I can get into the hotkey controls to toggle the color and rhythm but the keyboard itself will not respond. Tried turning up the brightness and all that stuff.
Saw on another forum that someone was having the same issue and installed an older driver and it worked. Does anyone know where I can get older P170SM drivers? Specifically the hotkey driver?
Or, does anyone know how to help me get my backlit portion of my keyboard to work? Thanks. -

You say you are capped at 139 MB/s. Well, that's what a Samsung 840 TLC is rated at.
HARDOCP - Introduction - Samsung 840 120GB SSD Review
Some sites that advertise the PM841 for sale, list it as TLC NAND.
Rozetka.ua | Samsung PM841 series SSD 512GB mSATA TLC (MZMTD512HAGL) OEM (
The one review that I read, for the PM841 512GB mSATA, states that it's the same as the 840 Pro but the write numbers are not close. In fact they are the same for the TLC 500. Sequential Write 840 - 330 MB/s, 840 Pro - 520 MB/s, PM841 - 330 MB/s
Model comparison:

Wow Bullrun, you make a compelling case here. The ATTO results in the review for the 840 TLC 120GB are nearly identical to the results I'm getting.
-
Hi 170/177SM owners, can anyone who's repasted let me know if:
1) After they've repasted, they saw insane temp spikes? If so, what did you do to repaste it to fix the issue?
2) How much does it cost to get the copper heatsink for the GPU replaced, in case someone has bent it out of shape while attempting to uninstall it? -
So it turns out that you're right Bullrun. I've had it confirmed by Mythlogic that at least the 128GB PM841 is in fact a TLC NAND 840 equivalent and not an 840 Pro. Apparently their rep and some data they'd been provided were incorrect. It makes sense, in some ways, as Mythlogic was charging the same price as an 840 for the PM841, making it actually cheaper than the 128GB 840 Pro.
So I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I could return them, or swap them out with Plextor M5Ms or go with a larger drive. It appears that the PM841 256GB is still TLC, but it gets much better write numbers than the 128GB.
Here's my situation. I have the OS and programs on one 128PM841. I'll fill between 50-60GB of the 90 GB that I formatted. I don't keep any data on the drive, not even downloads, so I'm not sure how much the lower write numbers will affect the performance of Win7. The read times are about as fast as an 840PRO. Lightroom and CS6 load very fast and WEI rates my OS drive as 7.9.
The other drive is for my Lightroom catalog and raw cache, PS scratch drive and a few other things. I don't do a lot of PS, so don't use the scratch disk much and I have 32GB of RAM that PS would use before touching a scratch disk. The LR catalog and cache do get lots of writes, lots of little writes, but this drive will probably remain 60-70% empty.
So the big question is: should I be concerned with these PM841 drives that have less resilient NAND? Would you return them for the Plextors, or just return them and buy something else. My last notebook lasted me 3.5 years, which is about the expected lifetime of these drives under relatively heavy use, and I'm assuming my use would not be considered relatively heavy. -
I don't think the endurance is too big of a concern with the TLC. The performance of 120-128GB Samsung 840, 840 Pro and now PM841 is a bigger issue. Latency issues.
From the [H]ardOCP Samsung 840 120GB SSD Review link:
If you swap them and will go to 256GB then choose the Plextor M5M. Sequential Writes 128GB - 320 MB/s 256GB - 430 MB/s
Two reviews for M5M 256GB
Plextor PX-M5M mSATA 256GB SSD Review | TweakTown
AnandTech | Plextor M5M (256GB) mSATA Review
Other considerations Intel 525 240GB performance but expensive $280. Two upcoming, Intel 530 mSATA smaller NAND possibly less expensive only up to 240GB capacity. Crucial m500 mSATA 480GB, capacity, Crucial reliability. performance and price (Don't go smaller than 480GB for the m500 mSATA or 2.5" SSD). -
How are the noise levels on P170SM ?

So just an update. All of my stability issues have been resolved with the CL11 1600 sodimms that Mythlogic sent me. Don't put CL9 1600 sticks in these! The machine doesn't like them. Works wonderfully with the CL11. Also, I've decided to return the 2 Samsung 128GB PM841s that I bought with the machine and replace them with a single Plextor 256GB M5M. It may be that the Samsung's would have been fine and I might not notice the difference, but the fact that they are 840 equivalents and not 840PRO equivalents did have me 2nd guessing them whenever anything takes a few seconds in LR or a program doesn't launch instantaneously, and then there is resale value a few years down the line. I probably spent way too much time thinking about this and debating between the intel 525, the 256GB PM841 and the Plextor, but it's my first new machine in almost 4 years so a bit of unnecessary anxiety is okay.
