Ah yes of course, I'll check this and come back. But would that be a Clevo part number ? If it's from an obscure chinese company, I may have difficulties using it...

Usually you can find something with the exact number.

    Well, almost ! I got : 6-23-AX510-012. Or maybe I made a mistake...
I suppose it's the Clevo part number. Along with the number are two other pieces of information : "140120" and "A-POWER", which seems to be the fan manufacturer.

    Manufacturer-specific info is :
    "B6005HS-U0D" (maybe the 5 is a 6, but I think it's a 5)
    "DC 5V 0.5A"
    "TAIWAN"
    "140120"

Yeah I found information, but as of now only chinese resellers, and I have to say I have a trust problem here.
I found an american reseller that looks really serious, but unfortunately he doesn't ship to France. I think I'm going to contact those who sold me my laptop...

No problem ! I contacted my reseller, hoping for a positive answer now.
That being said, what about putting oil (such as sewing machine oil) on the fan axis ? Maybe that would help, and even solve my problem. Of course, that would require opening the fan itself...

I would be a little wary about doing that with a fan. While oil is great for some moving parts, a fan moves air with particulate material naturally present, which can adhere to exposed oily surfaces. In something small like a fan I worry about it working well initially and then interfering with the spin over time. And I am not entirely sure from the description that friction is the problem in the first place. I might be wrong about this, someone who has actually tried it might want to weigh in here.

I'm wary too, and won't do that before I have a working replacement fan handy, unless maybe I get enough well documented information that would make me feel much more confident.

In some respects, containing fat, oil is the enemy of cooling. That in addition to the tiny mechanics of the fan makes me very cautious. I don't even know if I would be able to reach the fan axis without breaking something...

    EDIT : I found this :

Very interesting, I may try it once I get a replacement fan since it would be my first time, and I don't want to be left without a computer for too long in case I ruin my fan... However I'm still not sure about using grease despite what's being said in the video. I've seen many people recommending sewing machine oil instead, as it's less thick.

Hello, dear friends! Is there anyone who have thermal pad's thinkness and layout of CPU VRM and GTX 770M/780M for P177SM? If someone have only CPU part - it will be appreciated)

And who know how to let Sound bar on P177SM work in Windows 7?

The pads are usually in sets so your original ones can be measured. 0.5mm and 1mm are the most common thicknesses with the thicker ones varying.

Was going to respond to the original comment recommending against any organic oil, a petrol based is better. Was going to recommend something less viscous, but didn't think of sewing machine oil.

I've read a thread of someone using olive oil, and having his computer smell like italian cooking at times of intense activity... Anyway, my reseller told me he likely still has fans in stock, which is good news !

With something low cost like a fan, it's better to replace than take apart and try to lube yourself.

Right, but on the other hand it doesn't seem a difficult thing. Unfortunately my reseller failed me and I will have to get my fan somewhere else. I'm suspicious with these chinese sellers, but my options are getting pretty limited now. Maybe I will have to lube after all !

Oh you are right perhaps this machine is a desktop 2070 I'm not certain

Even so the vbios is valuable to someone if only for someone who flashed the wrong vbios someday.

This is a pretty old machine, look at the OP. Any vbios would be from an mxm card and putting a 2070 in it?

Should be plug and play unless you got an odd card and also have the right heatsink.

Is there a list of compatible replacement GPU somewhere? My GPU (Radeon HD 8970M) died and I'm going to give this laptop to my niece. She doesn't play games but she likes making youtube videos so I thought she can use the laptop to learn video editing. Do GPU actually affect video editing? I'm thinking of getting a replacement GPU if it actually helps.

Edit: Did a bit of research, it seems it's compatible with any MXM 3.0 type B card? Would something like AMD FirePro M6100 be a good replacement for it?

Edit 2: Read around some more, seems like not all MXM 3B interchangeable after all. Found the list of GPU that's been proven to be compatible but didn't see FirePro there. Not surprising since it's a workstation card and no gamer would want it lol. I guess the only way is to order one and see if it works. Will post result later

Quadros tend to work a little better but actually a modern card like a 1060 would work but would cost a bit.

Already got my M6100 from Ebay from like $37 lol and it is compatible with the P170SM. Only thing is Device Manager read it as HD 8950. I looked up Radeon site, there's no driver for Firepro M series. Dell has them, and I know usually you want to download driver from laptop manufacturer. But in this case I went with Radeon Pro general driver. Seems to work fine so far. Another thing is the screws that tightens the heatsink from the old HD 8970M isn't compatible with the Firepro so I need to look for them. Otherwise though, it seems like a good buy for $37 :D

The holes on the xbracket? Yeah that's another issue that can arise. If you have another and card they can tend to be swapped.

    Morning all,

It's been a long time since I've posted.
My system has been running beautifully BUT, I just undocked it, after a LONG time as a "desktop".
And I notice, my touchpad gestures are not working.
I start digging into Windows 10 settings and find it is not detected as an "advanced touchpad".
Meaning, I cannot turn if off when a mouse is plugged in, I cannot change any settings besides the sensitivity.
If I click the "Additional Settings" I get the typical mouse settings popup but there is a "Sentelic settings" tab.
On that tab there is a "configure" button that doesn't seem to do anything.

Digging around, I find that I have a Windows 8.1 driver, but no Windows 10 driver. I've tried updating, switching, uninstalling and reinstalling to no avail.

Is there an updated Windows 10 driver for our machines?
If so, can someone point me in the right direction?
If not, has anyone gotten gestures to work on this machine under Windows 10?

    Thanks in advance guys...

I did find the Sager site with the drivers for my system... for Win 7, Win 8, Win 8.1, and Win 10... but no Touchpad Driver for Win 10
Which is why I had to ask.
So, I assume from your response, there is no new drivers for our Sentelic finger sensing pad.

    Again, thank you.

Hello, I own a Clevo P177SM-A, which has a backlight fuse issue.
The thing is I cannot seem to locate it, as there's bunch of fuses on the board, some of them check out as ok with the multimeter, some of them dont let the current through. So im not sure here, can anyone help in locating the fuse?
The screen itself works fine, tested on other device.
Thanks in advance! Any help will be much appreciated!

A fuse should show a connected circuit, if any fuse (and you are sure it is one) shows a broken circuit then it would need replacing.

Most of them show a connectivity between both sides of the fuse with continuity test. Few dont. I highly doubt those few have to be replaced, usually its one fuse that's blown? Also they are pretty far from the lcd connector, so idk :S

If I knew, I wouldnt ask. Google images do show them to be a regular fuse. Can anyone send an example on how the backlight fuse should look like on a clevo motherboard?

    Hey guys,

I have recently decided to upgrade my system to use it for the next years.
    780m to 1060
    4800mq to 4930mx

I think a custom prema bios would help me in achieving my goal.
What is the best way to get in contact with Prema and ask him whether he is willing to provide me a bios?

Also are there any custom bios for the 1060 that would be worth looking into?

    Thx in advance.

You have to be careful which 1060 card you choose, power unlocking some could leave you with a burnt card.

The 1060 I got is one of the black pcb dell ones. You have any experience with those?
Unlocking the 1060 is just something I was thinking about maybe doing the future if I don't go for a 1070.

Right now I'm primarily trying to get a prema bios for my system. From what I read getting one can be difficult.
What's the best way of contacting him?
    Do I just tag @Prema?

I actually can't tell you right now. My relative, who lives in China, will only visit me tomorrow and give me the parts.
I'd want the bios because I get a lot more options for tweaking in the future when I am looking to push my system to the limit. Don't have the time right now.
Will only get the max out of the system after improving the cooling system anyway.
From what I read it also enables me to run faster RAM.

Ram with a higher SPD can boot at those speeds still but there is less room for adjustment.

Have the parts now. Only did some preliminary testing if they are working with some very old nt-h1 I had lying around. Could potentially explain my temps. Will repaste with Kryonaut once I get it.

4930mx is @stock clocks with -60mV undervolt. Temps hitting 98C and hitting current limit. How high can I go with the current? What temps should I be hitting? Haven't been able to find anything on that.

1060 I can run @+240/+660. Problem is I'm hitting power limit. Even @stock. Is a 75w bios. Am looking into getting a SkyPRO to fix that. Is there a way to find out how much power I can give my card without frying it?

In terms of graphics score I am beating the score of the "secret sauce oc"

Yeah they run close to the line out of the box, so it's more about driving that undervolt as far as it will go.
