93c is the trottle point for the 780m by the way so hitting that will cause degraded performance.

That is the top end, actually 92-93 is the top end. As Meaker said, it throttles performance at that point to reduce heat. Crysis 3 does push things, but that seems a little high. You could do a repaste...

For the nvidia drivers, should I get the latest from the website or use the ones from Sager site?

Yes they will be the most up to date. Also yes I also suggest a repaste and check the thermal pads are correctly aligned.

    It's here! Currently downloading updates...

    Edit:

All seems good! Only noticeable thing that's offputting is that the S key on the keyboard seems "sticky".

I don't really mind though, I never use the laptop's keyboard anyways.

    Hi,

greetngs to all,i'm new to this forum, and i need some help

    I own a clevo p157sm notebook with

    specification : i7 4700MQ, 8GB RAM, GTX780M , 15.6 inch Full HD

Recently i am facing a weird problem which i could not dig much about ... today morning when i tried playing games, i noticed lag, also then i checked in GPU-Z information, that the memory and clock speeds of the GPU is running at very very low freq than usual. While the usual clock speeds of the GPU as per standard was

    Core : 849 Mhz
    Memory : 1300Mhz

But now at load, the clocks are stuck into

    Core : 324MHz
    Memory : 400 Mhz

which is not normal and its causing low performance, i also checked all temps, they are 32-39 at idle and was max 87 at full load before the issue occurred, right now the clocks are stuck and so is the temp at 37.

there is also a recent development of the issue, i noticed, when i completely shut the machine down, the next startup fixes the issue automatically, GPU z clocks are normal once again and games..no lag at all. From that point if i restart the laptop for some reason, again it pops up, clocks get stuck to 324/400. it takes a complete shutdown and push start to make the frequencies right as usual, only in case of restart, it messes up, also i could see from the moment the laptop starts restarting ( using windows 8) the discrete GPU LED ( looks like a dashboard meter) starts lit atop the unit and remains the same until i completely shut the unit down. any help guys, i figured there are many users of the same laptop here , hence i jumped in for some help, please suggest , i'm worried like hell :( :( :(

    Hey, and welcome!

Can I say, first of all your post is very hard to read because you dont seem to use Capital letters at start of sentences. Please start doing this as it makes longer posts much easier to read. ;)

Second, did you try contacting your Clevo builder/reseller with this issue??

The missing capital letters came from the rush to find a solution of the problem, i was tensed hence the mistakes :p, it will surely be taken care of and...thanks for the prompt reply.

Well i have contacted them, and informed them about the details of the issue, but there are two reasons for which i posted in this forum,

    1. There are plenty of software issues, known to or solved by users in forums, this could be one of them, sparing me the trouble to go through the hassle of RMA and stuff....or at least worrying too much.

    2. Currently i am in a different country where there is no presence of Clevo, i will be staying here for 13 more days, if within that period , the issue gets solved, then piece of mind confirmed. Last resort is always the re-seller.

Cleaver_73, If I understand correctly, the issue only happens when you select restart, but a cold boot is fine. Have you added any hardware? Did the problem happen when you first got it? Is there anything else that can trigger the issue? Are you sure you are on ac power and set on performance in the clevo software?

Check the manual that is on the drivers disc, section 6-6, instructions with pics included.

is that the Manual that comes with the laptop? It's hard to use the optical disk to see what I need to do to take out the hard drive caddy in optical bay :p

You are spot on, the problem is not there with cold-boot or fresh boot, only crops up at restart now. I have updated/clean installed all drivers for the GPU, no i have not added any hardware recently.

It never happened before in the last 3 months since i bought it, i could not find/remember anything such as any installation or change in the OS or drivers to trigger this issue, there is one more guy facing the same issue added the problem in Ge force forum, the problem description is exactly same but still no luck. Really freaking me out...

So I just realized that one of the little bumpers to support the laptop is on the battery... Which is problematic because I usually take the battery out of the laptop since I never move it around.

Anyone else in the same boat? Should I just leave it in and have it always charged at 100%?

Did you add anything external? It sounds like a driver or firmware issue. If it just started, you could do a system restore to an earlier date to see if it works. I have been watching these forums for months now, and no one has reported the issue. Which may indicate something special about your system, or simply that most don't use restart. It is an odd problem. Keep in mind, the cause may be something seemingly unrelated to the gpu.

Did you figure out the optical bay? I had to remove the optical bay to get to the drive bay under it, where I put my SSD. It was like two screws, flip the cover, then one screw for the optical drive. The service manual has details, just do a google search to find the manual.

As for the battery, you could remove it and put something under it to level it. I have heard that lithium batteries will die even if left on a shelf. I don't know the time line differences. Mine is plugged in all the time, charging... But I wish I had a battery dummy to fill the space.

Btw, I noticed mine shows the orange charging light sometimes, even though I never use it on battery.

I always leave my battery in. If you get any sudden power spikes or your power shuts off your computer will instantly shut off too without the battery in there. They help like a UPS does for desktops. I dont think it really hurts the battery if you have it in there all the time, at least not to a point where you'll see any degradation because of it.

Yeah I figured it out, Hutsady pointed me in the right direction (mine was actually the D model not the A/B/C model, but the correct one was just a few pages down).

Yeah... I've had those power interruptions happen before without the battery plugged in.

I guess since I never use the battery, it doens't really matter if it's plugged in or not.

Well storing it in a place that varies little in temperature and is cool will maximise battery life but there comes a point where you have to actually use what you buy rather than making life more hassle than it already is.

    Hello,

Tonight I was ripping some DVD's and CD's when my wifi was turned off. I have searched all over to find where my hotkey is to turn it back on with no luck. I found this forum in hopes someone could brighten my Christmas morn with a simple answer.

I have the Sager NP8290 E-Model. Currently I am using the laptop with a lan connection. So somehow I've just turned the wifi off but I am unable to find where to turn it back on.

    Thanks a lot!
    Chad

Quick question, so this laptop doesn't have expresscard slot right? Would the only way to increase the number of USB ports be to use a USB hub?

It does not, the only Sager model which includes one anymore is the NP9570. The only way to add more USB ports is with a hub.

Sorry for the late reply, I was overseas.

The option to select the setting is not there. It is just stuck to "off". I am guessing the Wold of Tanks client is picking up that I have an Intel graphics card and and not the dedicated AMD Graphics and is restricting the game. The game runs at max FPS on all the other settings put on maximum, so the graphics card is working for it.

Anyone here have experience trying to set up dual boot of Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu 13.10 on a Sager NP8270-SM? I've just recently received my laptop with Window 8.1 pre-installed and I'm just now trying to setup a dual boot to Ubuntu, sadly I can't even get the boot disks to load. I've created both a USB and a dvd Ubuntu install and in both cases when I try to boot I just get sent straight to windows. I've check the bios, by default secure boot is off and uefi devices are enabled. I've tried switching the boot order to move the usb to the front of the list, no effect.

I've tried turning off the uefi devices, but on boot up all I eventually get is a black screen with a flashing cursor, both with the usb sticks I've created and the dvd. I have to manually power down in that case and then re-enable the uefi devices to get a proper boot up sequence.

If anyone can help I'd appreciate it.

Sadly not that easy, I've tried multiple installs on different usb's and dvd's of both Ubuntu and windows 7, none will load from a fresh boot. I went so far as to try the same installs on another machine and the Ubuntu install came up immediately. I can only assume a BIOS setting I'm not aware of is incorrect or it's defective.

Windows 7 should be able to install in UEFI mode, I don't quite know what you have changed :/

if you select the boot over ride option on startup do you see a UEFI boot option for the install media?

You need the BIOS Mod for Win 7 UEFI. after that do this:

In BIOS set “OS” to “OTHER” and AFTER that “UEFI” to “ENABLED”.
We also have to prepare the Win 7 image too as it is not set-up for UEFI on default.

    Take a look here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDm8rWr3dV8

You might need to add "nomodeset" to the boot up parameters.

    Hi,

I have the P170SM and want to fit the Intel 7260HMW wireless AC card. Is it compatible and is it easy enough to replace the card? Where is it located within the notebook?

Basically I'm looking for it to have wireless AC, integrated bluetooth and widi compatible so which card, if not the 7260, will suit my requirements?

    Many thanks

Well that took me all of 5 minutes to figure out and I didn't snap anything! Now the card I have in there is the Ultimate N 6300 which has 3 connections the new card only has 2. What's the 3rd connection for and does it matter if the 3rd wire isn't connected?

I own a p177SM and got a problem with the RAM : I installed four of these http://www.gskill.com/en/product/f3-12800cl9d-8gbsk.
    - First the computer wont cold-boot' (I had to wait like 30 sec in the bios, and then boot, otherwise it crashes at windows loading), So I've returned 2 of the 4 RAM module (the PC was working fine with only two module)

    - So I recived the new module, now it boot fine but windows crashes at random moments, whatever i'm doing (even nothing)... The guy where I've buy the RAM says that maybe the motherboard can't hold 16 Go of so low timing RAM... I'm actually downloading prema bios mod to try to set manual timing, but if anyone have an idea of what can cause that please share !

    Thanks

Nope, it's the third antenna for cards that support 3 spacial streams.

Sixola the system only supports 1.35v ram.
