Just be cautious with the customs and everything.
In Europe you have PWNPCS for the P150/170SM and MySN for the P157/177.

Agreed. Bad move Sager. I was highly considering upgrading from my Sager NP8150 (Clevo P150HM), but not if they only offer the P157SM. My AMD 6970M is still truckin' along nicely so maybe I'll hold out one more year.

On a similar note, thanks Mythlogic for offering both options. That decision will likely get you many more customers, and perhaps even me if I can scrounge up some cash!

Hi mythlogic, what would the delivery fee be like if I buy in Canada? I've decided to give up Sager coz I really don't like the wobbly lid of P157SM...

I don't like P157SM either, aside from the bulky looking, it also has a wobbly lid. I asked Sager sales about P150SM, but they did not even care about it. I am gonna switch to mythlogic.

Ordered an MSI GT60-2OC after seeing that Sager wouldn't be building off of the P150SM... Honestly the gt60 doesn't look bad at all, much better than the very abstract illuminated touchpad of the P157SM

Sager is not offering the basic p150sm model?!?
The very reason I get ckevos/sagers is for their ungarnished, businesslike looks.
But thank you mythologic for offering us a choice sager wouldn't give us.

Would be interesting to see exactly how good the new heatsink and cooling solution works on these new models, not that cooling was bad in the old models but it was just a bit too much fan at full blast and loud. Hopefully these new models correct that, I need my new laptop to be fairly quieter and a little less either fan full blast or off.

With the performance of the 780M related to its temperature it will be full blast just higher performance and a bit cooler.

Just ordered this model, with windows 7. Super exited to get it. Does anyone know when the drivers for windows 7 will be released. I ordered it with windows 7 and with the 780m and apparently it won't work until these drivers come out. Also should I just download all the driver updates when they come out for windows 7 when clevo gets them in their site?

Yeah, Sager has indicated that the Win 7 drivers are still in the works and actually won't be shipping Win 7 versions for the time being until those drivers are proven stable. They're estimating next week for that though so shouldn't be much of a delay at all.

Awesome thanks so much, so would I just download those from the clevo site? I just ordered this laptop for you, xoticpc, on Monday. So it's still in the works. They said that they were gonna send it to me with windows installed and ill just have to download the drivers once their released since the 780 isn't supported yet? I'm assuming.

Let me look into the order for you, it'll be easier to relate this to actual specs. Shoot me an email by clicking my name and let me know your order number in that email.

Edit: Just got your email, I forwarded it onto Hutsady since he was your adviser, he should be getting a hold of you shortly.

You won't need to worry about installing the drivers or downloading them as they'll come preinstalled, as I mentioned Sager won't be shipping Win 7 machines until they're ready to go. Hutsady will go into a little more detail for you, but in the event you need to reinstall drivers after receiving the machine you'll definitely be able to download them from the Sager website as well as the respective manufacturer sites.

    Derek,

I was planning to order my machine with No OS. I have a copy of Win 7 that i can use for it. Does it cause any issues? I was planning to purchase with mSata as the OS drive and the primary drive for storage.

    Thanks, Chad

We can ship the machines no problem without an OS, Sager has to ship with the OS installed when selected per their agreement with Microsoft. If you install the OS yourself, driver installation is up to you, but just be advised that Win 7 drivers are not released yet. So whether you have Sager install it on the system themselves and have the drivers preloaded, or you install the OS yourself, the timeline will be similar because both are waiting for the drivers to be finalized/released.

Makes sense. I can wait for a bit. In your opinion, is it easier to have it come with the OS?

Depends on how tech savvy you are. Driver installations have never been a problem for me in the past but as evidenced by the 7970 issues, sometimes they can get quite tricky requiring some sleuthing and trial/error to get everything working correctly. Having it done by Sager means that you'll have a working machine as it comes. No evidence on the drivers being picky on these new models yet since not many people have had a chance to play with them, but if you would rather have it working with no possible headache, I'd opt for Sagers installation.

I have built my own desktops in the past and done fresh OS installs on laptops. It's just that upgrade price to get to Win 7 which is killing me!

Any amount of money compared to free is going to seem expensive, but that is a completely new product key for Windows as well as the ease of being able to turn the machine on when it arrives and having it ready to go!

Then don't get a new key and install it yourself if you have a fresh one. Before you receive the machine get all the drivers ready on a USB stick :)

I just ordered a custom from xoticpc, the 157SM(Sager NP8250-S) w/4800MX. Decided that the 4900MX wasn't worth the extra cost for what it offered, and the extreme(sorry forget the model "number" was even worse.

I was last in here with my last nb, MSI GT725 along with it's spectacular(hw wise, had WONDERFUL synth benches, but phailed to deliver overall GPUwise) GPU but sadly deficient sw drivers(as in godawful video tearing, total collapse of the GPU rendering system in VERY SPECIFIC conditions which ATI/AMD IGNORED, etc.) and so moved back to nVidia last year with my new desktop build, and now with this nb order.

MSI just came out too much higher in overall cost this time around v. Sager(by about $400).

(I just hope that this doesn't turn out like my last foray into custom notebook builders... *shudder* ... which is how I ended up with the retail MSI GT725....)

    [EDIT]
I WAS TOLD by a sales "consultant" @ xoticpc that they had EVERYTHING in stock, so these SHOULD be going out in their usual c. 14d pokey mode, or 4d you-pay-extra-mode.
    [/EDIT]

    [EDIT2]
    hmmm... OLD STALE info apparently,

neways dealing with hutsady @ xoticpc myself... I WANTED PRIMARILY the 780M, and secondarily NEEDED an intel CPU supporting hw virtualization, hence my 4800MX pick... Christ! Where does Intel get all these random sku #s? (Desktop that I alluded to is a 3930k(wanted quad mem/>4 cores, ivy bridge got me jack beyond a slight power drop and an utterly useless crappy integrated GPU, couple with an EVGA GF670 FTW(got it for half the price of a 680 which I intended upon with virtually zero perf loss across the board, and crap no random video tearing/hard locks(see ATI/AMD commentary)).)

Well, this will be my first Sager/Clevo. I'm on track for a 1.5-2w build/test process w/overnight delivery.

Kept the "standard" 750GB 7.2kRPM mech hdd myself, but also went for the 4800MX. ( happened to the 4850MQ & 4950MQ?) The 49XXes were WAY(way way way ...) too much more for what they offered.

Also just kept to 16GB DRAM as well for now.

Looks like the chunky unattractive beast that I saw in the store photos, but don't care as long as it performs and does it's duty as a desktop replacement away from home(in a nice size) and as a more useful replacement again for a questionably useful tablet(read mostly useless excepting for light browsing and simple replies, same as smartphone, but if you do more with your smartphone I applaud your ... ahm... diligence(?) ... even with swype style input...)

    First of all, good afternoon.
I'm fairly new to gaming notebooks so I do have a lot of questions on the subject and have been 'zapping' between threads, websites and so forth.

Relatively to the quote, I'm interested as well in one of your products (NP8250-S) and I read that if I'd so choose to get my laptop without an OS installation I'd still get the drivers and such ("No Operating System Standard - Drivers & Utility Software Only") ... and my questions are as follows:

    1) the drivers in the DVD (I'd assume) would be for which OS?

    2) I have a little experience with win8 and personally... I don't like it. In these conditions if I'd want my product to come with win7 (avoiding the hassles of a fresh installation) how would it work? Would it still come with some drivers or would it be on hold in Sager's end?

    3) Does anyone know if Sager is affiliated with the NVIDIA Verde program? (supposedly NVIDIA is going to support all cards of the 700M series on driver 320.24 but... who knows when it'll actually come out... and if it's as they claim)

    ---
Btw, where should I post about "my intent of purchase"? (basically ask for opinions about some specs available in customization mode for np8250, like "SSD vs hybrid" or "which network devices do you suggest?")

@Derek:: should I mail you guys directly ([email protected]) with schedule questions? ("If I order it now, will it be ready by MM/DD given that I'll be staying at CITY, STATE before going abroad?")

    Thanks in advance! =)

    [EDIT]
    < snip >

Oops, I replied in the wrong thread...

There was a guy asking sales specific information like this was a vendor specific forum or something rather than general info and sort of informal support eventually... (at least until the excitement of the newest toy dies off...)

@jcmr yours wasn't really sales related, but the one that I had meant to was asking about RAM/HDD/etc. options that they should have been talking to their vendor about.

Yes, you are right. Way too specific and sale oriented.
Right now I'm out of the country, will be back next week and off again in another 3 or so, I'd assume. So since, so far, the best offer came from xoticpc and I saw Derek answering I kinda jumped the gun... once again sorry for misplacement.

The thing is, this notebook caught my eye while I was searching for a portable DTR that a could use for like the next 4~6 (gaming) years. I don't care much for the looks since I'm no expert but I'd take any offer to remove the branding... that touchpad look... kinda freaks me out.
(so far I understood that removing the branding would take care of it ... hopefully?)

I have to admit I never heard about sager/clivo until I proactively started my search, but so far I got the idea that their laptops aren't bad (to which, unfortunately, I'm somewhat familiar with...).

I'm a bit concerned with driver support. I've seen a lot of people complaining about lack of quality in the current drivers and very little expectancy for the next months (waiting for 740M for over 2 months it would seem, so brand new 780M ... make me think on what to expect).

As for interesting specs I'd point out the GTX 780M (despite driver concerns), the new Haswell CPUs (thinking about 4800QM; unfortunately I need a laptop this month otherwise I'd be tempted to wait for, at least, the release of 4850HQ and see a few reviews before deciding), and being higly upgradable. Other than this I'd say 16GB RAM 1600MHz would be more than sufficient, imho.

    I have a question though:

    - this model is supposed to comes with a new heatsink, correct? How well does it (/is it supposed to) fare? Would it be wise to take a better look at customization options such as cooper heatsinks for ''extra cooling''?

There will be a P150EM version without the illuminated touchpad and the more classic look of Clevo laptops. Same guts just a little different chassis.

    Oh you lucky *****! :)
Your reviews are always the best on here, will love yo hear your opinion on this beast.
All I ask is if you can comment on the fan noise and the fan control, my older P150HM was a little hyper when it came to fan control, either very low or very high and not mucj in between.
Will be looking forward to your review.

I'm looking at buying a clevo p150sm or p170sm and I am also very interested to hear about the fan noise levels. I'm considering these clevos (great value), the new msi gt70 (great as can output to 4 displays), or perhaps a haswell alienware (i am hoping refreshed models are released after e3).

Clevos were top of my list, but I have been kinda put off by the reviews on notebookcheck about fan noise being very high.

Read the review @ notebookcheck IIRC, it's for the One K56-3N2 (or something) but it's the Clevo P157SM
    Review One K56-3N2 (Clevo P157SM) Notebook - NotebookCheck.net Reviews

They mention it topping out @ 90C for both CPU & GPU, BUT do mention that Clevo has the fans running @ off OR MAX only. The review unit was a pre-production though, so it might be different for the ones that are starting to go out now...

From what I understand they used the old heat sinks :
    I think anyway

Yes so their thermal results are useless.

Just a point of clarification, the copper cooling upgrade does not replace the existing heatsinks. They are additional copper heatsinks we apply to the existing heat pipes for the configuration.

I just made a comment here about the fans:

And will do my best to offer a thorough unbiased look at this laptop. Screaming through benches right now, nice machine. 780m is a nice fast GPU. At stock, basically as fast as or slightly faster than a 680m at 1000/2400. Difference is 680m in P150EM can run mid to upper 80C, where 780m stock is in the mid to upper 70C (sometimes low 80C). P157SM draws about 10-15W more than the P150EM though.

Just a quick note, and I posted this somewhere in gaming forum too, is that the stock PSU (180W) is going to be barely adequate for an overclocked 780m. Running 984 (+135) / 3000 (+500), Dirt 3 throttles crazy as it's pulling 203W from the wall and reached it's limit. I hope Sager sources a larger PSU like 220W-240W.

    Wingnut,

I'm about *THIS* close to buying a P157SM, I'm not an Overclocker (you may now laugh), is the 180w PSU sufficient for the 780m @ stock clocks?
