At least the people in the first batch of 7970M's for Xotic have nothing to worry about ;D

Just keep repeating that to yourself. I'm seriously considering switching to the 675m.

    those work. congrats, you win!

What is more surprising is that steel series has the same problem. Any that is their specialty. Ridiculous. Clearly clevo just copied the steelseries design with the exception of the chiclets.

What I want to know is why the 9130 keyboard (that doesn't have the ghosting problem) fit in the 9150 when the dimensions of the laptop are all the same. What part of the keyboard doesn't fit, How exactly?

So guys, I'm almost ordering a P150EM with the HD7970 but after what I've read I'm a bit confused.. should I pick the gtx675m instead? The deliver right now will be quicker even and im kinda in a hurry since i need this laptop to work in 3d modeling.. need to decide quick :/

    thanks!

I'm considering downgrading to the 675m or 670m, but the 7970m is so freaking incredible.. With a Oc it can stay under 80C in games and become almost as powerful as a GTX 580 desktop card with a 20% OC....

The GTX 675m is only roughly as powerful as a GTX 560 [without Ti] from what I've heard. :/

Huge difference of about 30% and up to 45% in some instances... :/

I might get the 670m or 675m and have them send me back some of my money apparently wasted on the 7970m because waiting another 3-4 weeks [my estimate based on all the things they have to test + reorder] is out the question as I've already waited 1 month from order time and another month just waiting for IB and GCN....

I may just get the 670m to hold me over for 1 year; then take the laptop to a reseller near my house and have them upgrade it to whatever the best card is next year... The 670m is plenty for Diablo 3 and playing BF3 on High [not ultra :(] But I could live with this for a year....

Check and see if your 3d Modeling program uses CUDA cores; if it does then the 675m might be better for it anyways. 7970m is mostly better in gaming but for newer versions of photoshop and 3d design software the 675m would still be better because of its CUDA core technology that takes stress off of the CPU and does some of the number crunching with the GPU.

The 675m will still run almost any game maxed out [except Metro 2033 and BF3, which will still run at High but not Ultra]. Ha.

No, you are not freaking over nothing. I would probably have done it differently If I didn't already have my notebook.

First, the 9130 keyboard is not perfect. It has other ghost combos but just not the EW one. It's much smaller, so there's no way to hold it in.

Yes, 675m will be much quicker.

Well, if you do downgrade, remember that 660m is preferable to 670m because it's based on a newer architecture, will have a higher resale value, runs cooler, OC's better, etc. Also, 675m was the top mobile card before the 7970m shipped, so it's not like it's slow or anything.

The 660m is way cheaper/less powerful than the 670m though...?

Has anyone posted how much they can OC the 660m? I figure at least 25% with the robust cooling of the P150EM

There have been some questions as to the OC ability of the 660 in the Asus forums. I haven't followed those threads for over a week though.

No, it is not less powerful. 670m is just an OC'd 570m (fermi) while 660m is a new kepler card.

Have you tried downloading them straight from Realtek... I'd rather get the latest drivers than those on a driver disc?

As far as the keyboard ghosting issue goes, can't I just buy an external keyboard? Or does the internal keyboard affect external keyboards as well?

Internal keyboard does not effect an external USB keyboard... just be aware that most keyboards will have some ghosting on some combinations of keys! You should be OK with a good gaming keyboard, not a cheap desktop one.

Apologies if this has been covered already in this thread, but the search here is borked...

Has anyone tried Windows 8 preview on their p150em yet? I did a fresh install with it last night. No problems with the installation, but as expected, none of the driver installations were straightforward. Most Sager drivers I was able to install under Windows 7 compatibility mode. Two exceptions I'm having problems with are:

Wireless - I've installed the LAN and chipset drivers and they seem to have installed fine: ethernet connection and bluetooth work. However, I can't seen to get the wireless card to work (yes, I've checked that the Fn and wireless key is switched on). In device manager, it says the network controller doesn't have a driver installed.

7970m - I installed Catalyst and the driver that came on the Sager disk and everything seemed to go fine. However, device manager still tells me I have a "Generic display device" installed and the driver is incorrect. Also, Catalyst won't run due to an "OS incompatibility".

Any suggestions appreciated. I'd like to be able to use Windows 8 as I'm working on mock ups for some new apps.

Also, and unrelated, I'm getting some vibrations/rattling at times when a DVD is spinning. If I hold my hand over the bottom-right of the palm rest (where the DVDRW sits) it stops. Is anyone else hearing this?

I'd advise to forget the driver disk as these will be recent Windows 7 certified drivers and go straight to the web site for the component manufacturer
    Radeon 7970 ATi AMD
Wireless card - Possibly Intel or Atheros

To be honest I never use driver disks as the drivers are often several months out of date. Go to the organ grinder not the monkey!

So does anyone know how much we can OC a GTX 670m or 675M in the P150EM???

Curious; because I may not be waiting for my precious 7970m.... The wait may be to long and I can just upgrade next year if I must....

It would require too much to even OC the 675M onto the power of the 7970M it might not even be possible. I would wait for the 7970M it's worth the power.

Also it's quite different how the GPU performs from card to card, some can overclock more then others :)

For over clocking an nVIDIA card, Google for:

    1. Svet's vBIOS Tuner (this one is the best, so give him a little love)
    2. nVIDIA Inspector
    3. MSI Afterburner

I know that it wont' be as powerful as the 7970m; thats a major longshot as it would need like a 50% OC thats not possible haha.

I'm just trying to see if I could get possibly a 20% OC from the 675m or 670m.

I would wait for the 7970m but jeez I have to wait another month are you joking me?

I can take the 670 or 675m and get either a 200 or 120 refund just about. Then I'll save that towards upgrading to the GTX 780m next year or 8970m Next year. I'm fine with the power of the 670 or 675m for now as I'll probably play D3 and BF3 and Dishonored when it comes out for the next year or so D3 will be the majority of it haha.

Thanks to Donald at PowerNotebooks.com, I and three of my friends are now proud owners of brand-new P150EM's! We all opted for the 7970m, and ordered early enough (May 9th) that we got them yesterday: D3 has never looked so good, and I can't wait to try out some more hardware-intensive games on it! I haven't been more satisfied with a computer purchase in... well, ever, actually!

Is there any point in having an ssd installed and mSata ssd? Also, if I'm not going to be getting my laptop until July would you guys recommend I wait to buy an ssd just in case it doesn't work? I found a 240gb OCZ ssd for $179 and I wanted to purchase today, but I won't be able to test until my NP1950 machine gets here. I'm new to ssd technology just wondering what is recommended.

I'll also be in school; but I'm going to have a pretty good job so I won't be too worried.

Just hope next year they can have some awesome cards and the 670m or 675m can last me until then :p

Hopefully can resell the 675m for at least $150 next year on these forums and then get whatever the newest is next year for like $500 - $150 so $350 + probably $50-100 to get it installed... But thats the only upgrade I'll need along with a 256GB mSata hehe. Then I'm set.

670m OC'd to 675m levels should handle my gaming needs, if not the 675m OC'd to 560 GTX levels will handle them for a year hah.

I will be rocking a 120GB mSATA for Virtual Machines storage, a 240 GB SSD for my main OS, and a 1TB drive in the optical bay for data. So yeah, depending on your use cases, SSD + mSATA SSD might be a logical solution.

Why mSata for VMs? Cause I'm going to be doing a lot of that in school too. I was thinking I would install OS on mSata and then have 240gb SSD for VMs, and a 750gb in optical for data.

The 7970M chip itself is fine. It's the PCB that Clevo is having an issue with. That's why Alienware is still shipping.

They do. That's the whole point of drivers.

They fix bugs, fix FPS in games and several other things :) don't quite know about the current driver thought..

So the drivers that were uodated are ni certified. They seem to be the same. However i have noticed peeformance increase! Not huge. Maybe 3-5 percent on 3dmark 11. I have not tested any gMes because i am at work. I will give that a go later tonight when i get off

Because the mSATA isnt as fast as the drive I will have in the 6Gbit SATA bay, and I use my main windows os all the time, but VM's only some of the time. So, I'd rather put my main OS and stuff on the faster drive. Also 120GB will be more than enough for me, I will only have 1 windows server vm, and 1-2 linux server VM's.

Most likely, if they stay the same MXM card type and if clevo would provide a BIOS for the upgrade.

It should support the next series but who knows. Depends f the new cards next year still use the mxm 3.0 b. It may require a bios update or hack though.

Does anyone know if 670m can oc to 675m levels of performance in the p 150 em ? I've heard that it can in a m17 alien ware and this cooling system should be about the same ? Only needs like a 15 percent oc maybe 20? In getting the 670 and upgrading next year because I can't wait a month more.
