I'm pretty sure I've successfully used the hotkeys to adjust brightness in the past, but I just checked and mine doesn't work either. If anybody has a solution, I'd appreciate a fix as well.

Have you tried updating the hotkey driver?

Good news, I managed to found the problem. It wasn't the hotkey's driver fault, but the intel's graphic driver.
I installed old version 21.20.16.4550 and the brightness hotkey works now.

Thanks for reporting back. I just tested a few iterations of the Intel driver and found the one from December works for me.

    win64_15.65.4.4944
    Intel(R) Graphics Driver: 23.20.16.4944
    Backlight hotkeys don't work

    win64_15.60.2.4901
    Intel(R) Graphics Driver: 23.20.16.4901
    Backlight hotkeys work

Only if you have the exact same model, there are slight board differences between the models.

Has anyone successfully installed windows 7 on any of these? I have tried to install win7 sp1 (in legacy mode) from a usb stick, but the install process crashes into a BSOD telling me "the bios of this system is not fully acpi compliant." My exact system is a clevo n855hj from xoticpc and the installed bios version is1.05.13frls1. Is there a combination of settings or a bios update that will allow windows 7 to install?

Also, I realize that windows 7 is "not supported" on kaby lake systems; however, it there is evidence that it will run with proper drivers. I prefer to use 7 over 8 or 10, and it seems silly that a small firmware bug should prevent 7 from even installing.

Windows update 1803 makes the old Intel graphic software not working and also causing the fn + f8 f9 to be broken again (can't change brightness). Goddamn

Since the brightness controls are still a hot topic (looking at the amount of emails we get complaining that the OBSIDIAN TOOLS broke it):
There is no problem, you probably just need to update your BIOS / EC.
We patched our BIOS for latest ME/Microcodes and updated all other modules, tested in our systems and all is working as intended is all latest drivers from the OBSIDIAN TOOLS.
So please email your resellers for updates and not me! Did i say please? Latest BIOS and EC is .22 and .15

Hi! I got N850HJ and my solution was installing intel graphic from installing cd.
    Version from cd is :
    Driver Version: 22.20.16.4749

If You cant find it on internet, write to me! I will check this profile in next week and if You write to me i will upload it on my google disc and share with people.
I got that version before update, windows updated, i updated intel hd graphic drivers and even then still could not use fn+f8/f9. After many hours of fight with mind 'update bios?...' i just decided to install old intel graphics drivers what people said, 21 or 23- not worked. But version what i got before update working fine right now, dont see any bugs.

File is 900MB so write if somebody want, i will try upload on google disc and share.

EDIT: Here is offical Clevo download:

If you check my previous post:
Latest Intel Driver and Latest Control Center works just fine, brightness controls and all... you probably just need to update BIOS and EC.

I like how people complain about the free tool rather than trying to say roll back a driver or do an update themselves.

Has anything else changed in the new models with the six-core 8750H (N850EJ1, N850EK1)? How bad is throttling? I haven't seen any reviews yet.

They will limit to 45w so should be very similar to the current chips. It's not really throttling if it's intended behaviour it's just running in its envelope.

I am also interested what temperatures are in this machine with new i7. Will it be good enough to play on lap? Maybe better option is new i5?

    It's hot baby !

I'm planning on repasting it this summer, even if it's only a year old.
And maybe upgrade the cooling if I can :)

I have the brightness controls broken too, I'll look at it when I have time. It doesn't work since I reinstalled the Intel graphical driver (last big W10 update, 1803 iirc, broke it)

I was playing NFS Payback for about an hour, with fans at maximum speed. GPU went up to 75°C.
Laptop was on a flat wood desk, and ambient temperature is around 25°C o_O

A re-paste could help, liquid metal if you are brave would be the best performing option. IC diamond or thermal grizzly are a couple of the conventional paste options.

Hey everyone, I've got a problem with my device. The fingerprint reader is suddenly incredibly hot to the touch when the laptop is turned on. I'm not sure how long this has been going on for, as I never use the fp reader, but this strikes me as something I shouldn't be ignoring. I have already uninstalled the fingerprint reader drivers and disabled it in device manager, but nothing has changed. I opened up the device to see if I could unplug just the fp reader, but it doesn't seem like I can. Any know what might be up?

Hi guys! Situation forced me to buy this Clevo, but actually in Poland it is NTT Hiro N850HJ1 from NTT System (with GTX 1050/i7-7700HQ/8GB RAM/500GB).
Unfortunately I havent't seen a lot of reviews (only sponoserd) and I have questions.
    1. How long battery works in gaming and in normal using (movies/netflix/internet/word and others ya know)
    2. How it is with work culture (temperatures/loudness of laptop in stress and normal using)
    3. Is the matrix good? (colors, viewing angles etc.)
    4. Is the casing good? Is all all right, nothing is cracking or something?
    5. Keyboard is good or not?
Thanks for all answers and sorry for my english :/

I have a Clevo N850HP6 and am looking to upgrade the screen to 4k. I've read through the forums and see the LG LP156UD1-SPB2 is a "factory" replacement. I've also read that this is a PenTile display and that the AUO B156ZAN02.3 is a better display that may work as a replacement.

I've ordered the 40 pin eDP cable:
Does anyone know if the AUO display will work with the N850?

Same connector pin count = it will power up and work. The only thing is if brightness control will work.

Finally, i upgraded the bios & ec to the latest version, but my Clevo N850HJ still boots extremely slowly on win 10 v1803, about 5 min or more. Is there any way to fix it?

I'm happy to report that the AUO display works in the Clevo N850. Also screen brightness works, which is good because this screen is bright! It also looks incredible in comparison to the 1080 display. The only issue was that the bottom tabs of the display I bought were on the sides, so I used tape on the bottom to secure it. Time will tell if this is enough.

Well, they said that they won't give me any instructions because they aren't obligated to and if i want i can send my n850hk to them and they will update it for 25$ and something about clevo not wanting users to update the laptops themselves so they won't help me
