Under load those temps are quite low, and probably unachievable. But why do you need them that low?

I was comparing it to the temperatures Justin@XoticPC posted. I read the IC Diamond can drop temperatures about 5~ degrees. I don't mind if it is higher. What maximum temperatures can I expect?

i have a question on the reliability and performance of the new 500gb hybrid Hard drive? is it any good and would their be any potential issues arising from it?

and is the Intel Ultimate N really worth choosing over the default internal one? what are the advantages?

I'd say having a 640 gig 5400 rpm drive is also a great option too. Its a really fast drive that when unraring a file and copying files from it to your external via usb 2.0 its much of a better experience. I'd say stick with the current cpu on it you can always upgrade later. Also Justin you only upload one so far?

NP, our 2nd Part of this video was just over 10 minutes and YouTube rejected it. So we are changing it to 3 Parts and it should complete uploading this AM. Joseph L is the one speaking in this video for those wondering who it was.

    Hi Guys,

I am the one who did the review on the laptop and I have been using it for the last couple of days. Overall it is a very solid machine. I tested the battery life with Optimus on. So it was using just the integrated graphics doing web surfing and normal office work. the screen brightness was all the way down and full battery save mode was on. Which seems to clock the cpu down to the 1.2ghz range according to CPU-Z.

Sound quality wise I would say it is very clear, on the bright side. Its not super loud, don't expect much mid bass. Its not tinny like some laptops I have heard, but it isn't too full sounding either. It isn't the worst speaker setup on a laptop that I have heard, but it is far from the best. Better than the G51jx series. However placement wise they aren't in the best location. On a hard surface where the sound can bounce back it seems to be much better. Soft surfaces will absorb the sound more, so I would suggest keeping it on a hard surface to get the best sound.

The output jacks seems to be clear. The realtek audio card isnt mucked up with any additional EAX software. There is a SPDIF digital output which will allow you to output 5.1 audio or if your going to a supported DAC even 96khz 24 bit audio passthrough.

Overall I am very impressed with the machine. For its pricepoint the screen is outstanding, graphics performance is certainly above average. It is a very solid chassis. If your looking for a very balanced machine I can easily recommend it.

Feel free to email or call me with any questions.

Justin, you reported a 4 hour battery life. I'm curious about the configuration. Is that with i5 or i7? SSD or traditional drive? Full high def screen (if that even makes a difference)? Regardless, 4 hours is pretty respectable. I'm a little turned off by the fact that it has a single touch pad. Would rather have a multi touch than biometrics reader myself. Never owned a laptop though so maybe that feature is overrated. Can I get some opinions on the full hd screen? I'll probably do only minimal gaming on this laptop, but may watch some hd video. I've never watched anything above 720p on a computer though. Just trying to decide whether its worth the money for me. Thanks ahead of time!

EDIT: I'm also wondering how loud the fan is on this unit.

The way that it is configured is a i7-620M, 80gb intel SSD, 8gb ddr3, FHD screen. I actually messed up on my review. After playing with the touchpad it certainly is multi touch. After playing with it more thoroughly I discovered that. I cant say with 100% accuracy how the normal HD screen looks but I will say that the FHD screen is one of the best screens I have seen on a Sager yet. It is very bright, has great viewing angles and very vibrant color. It also has some of the least glare that I have seen from the glossy type screen. Sitting idle i do not hear the fan. Even when it gets under full load I do not hear the fan much.

As far as getting a screen of GPU-Z on the 330M I will see what i can do. Because I cant force the GPU on it could be a bit difficult. We will post it up on our forums as soon as i can get the screen shot.

Whoa REALLY? I hadn't read anything, anywhere, about this being a multitouch pad. Two-finger scrolling and zooming work?!?

    Joseph,

Are you able to test the sound quality with a set of speakers and decent headphones plugged into the headphone jack? How about through the HDMI out to a home stereo setup?

I'm assuming the internal speakers are the weak link, not the onboard sound. BUT...I have had a bad experience with an expensive laptop which shall remain nameless where even running into high quality desktop speakers was mud, because the low quality onboard sound had a terrible high frequency cutoff. Cheers.

    Lado,

I will bring in my Grado SR325i's and my Ultrasone Edition 8's tomorrow and let you know what i think right out of the headphone jack.(the 8's might take an amp, so i wont Judge the computer too hard based on those. The Grado's impedance should be low enough that the headphone pot in the laptop can easily handle it) i also have a pretty nice pair of paradigm speakers and 2 channel pre/pro setup in my office. I will connect that tomorrow and let you know how it sounds at least in comparison to my main PC. The nice thing is the machine has an SPDIF output so if you are really into audio you could buy an inexpensive amp/DAC setup, come out of the SPDIF and have a nice little portable audio rig. Same thing holds true for connection to a receiver or Home theatre preamp. Afterall in most cases digital is digital.

Oh and as far as the touchpad it does have zoom and shrink like other multi-touch pads have.

I very nearly went the barebones route myself. Could have saved at least $100 that way (probably quite a bit more) and it would have been good to build again; I'd never built a laptop before so that was an exciting prospect. Instead I went the route of caution.

From the look of the video review, this is a very easy machine to work in. I look forward to hearing about your handiwork and regretting my decision not to take part in the fun! :p

Thanks for the followup Joseph. Could I expect similar battery life with a 450M, 4gb ddr3, and a 500gb traditional drive? I would imagine 450M should be similar, ram would be a bit less, but the traditional drive would add to power consumption. From your experience how much would this impact battery life. Thanks!

bbucolla, if your looking for a free os try ubuntu or Fedora. I'm currently dual booting Win 7 and Fedora, but I'd like to try ubuntu as its package manager seems better supported. If your used to windows things will be different and none of the programs you know and love will work, at least not without WINE and some luck. I think xoticpc sells without os unless you check that option. The unit I'm looking at is priced ~$100 less than through sager because of this. Great savings for me cause I can get an os through school.

There's no reason for there for be any driver or software problems with the drive as it's a combination of two already tested and frequently used technologies. A good way to think of the Momentus XT is like having a system with two drives - a SSD that you run your programs off of and a 7200RPM HDD that you keep all your data on. Yes, I know that's a gross oversimplification and that the drive really uses adaptive memory to shift frequently-used files to the SSD for quicker access, but it's the best comparison I can think of.

I would say that your battery life would be similar. Maybe a bit better. The TDP of the two are the same. I would be curious to see what someone comes up with. Some have theorized that maybe heat on the i7 would cause the fan to run more thus eating more battery life. If it is better I doubt it would be drastically better. My guess your standard HDD wouldn't make a massive difference on battery life either.

All in all at the moment it would be very smart to get the higher end battery 50% off like it is right now. I would theorize that 3.5-6 hours of battery life would be expected from it.

Tomorrow when i get into the office I will run the video battery test that others have wanted me to run. Maybe a little starcraft 2 battery life test? :) Think I can use that excuse to get a few games in?
