Exactly...Just make 2 logical partitions for Ubuntu; one with "/" + ext4 (bigger in size) and other with "swap" (smaller in size), thats all
-
For dual-booting with linux/unix use grub.. not the windows 7 bootloader.
It should auto-detect and then just chainboot that loader.
I have had lots of issues with the 7 bootloader.. Although I have heard it the other way that you will have trouble unless you use the 7 loader. -

Little early for that since it is not even 6AM in California. We were still updated yesterday they would be in today.
EDIT - They are in, but there are not allot of them. Dont know how long they will last with how fast they are selling. -

All existing orders are fine There are still some FHD's in stock. You will be getting a update upon shipment
-
Does the whole FHD's have anything to do with the 7110's? i'm guessing no because with the 5125's you actually have a choice of the screen whereas the 7110's you have no choice but to get the better FHD's screen. Can someone confirm this though?
-
Has anyone come across an in-depth review of the machine yet?
-
-
I called today and added the OS and the $20 wireless option to my order
-
Hello everyone...
I'm ordering a NP5125, can anyone tell-me about the upgrade of i5 450M to i7 620M?
This upgrade is a good choice? For performance, future sell, etc...
In Brazil, the diference of i5 450M to i7 620M is between $200 and $210.
I work with adobe softwares and internet.
I study computer science and I do a lot of programming.
Grettings from Brazil.
Warm regards. -

I would recommend the i7 for a bit more future-proofing and a higher resale value down the road. -
Yeah, i7 620M is a Dual Core processor, 2.66Ghz ~ 3.33Ghz, 4MB L3
@Shane
Yeah, i think the same. The value of i7 620M will decrease much less than i5.
In some reviews the i7 620m uses a lot more battery than i5.
Is this a significant great diference? -
it really depends on usage patterns and other factors. By itself i dont beleive as far as my research that it will have a huge impact. However you can couple the i5, a solid state drive(usesless power than conventional hdd) and power save mode can make a 20-40 minute impact on battery life.
I would recomend the i5 processor simply because of the upgradeablitiy of this brand and laptop. Most of the resellers have labor waaranties so if you get a new part theyll install for free minus cost of shipping which i beleive is on you. So if you get the i5 now you can always upgrade 6 or 12 months down the road if you feel you want a little more power and are comfortable with the battery. Thats my two cents, i persoanlly went with the 540m and have had no problems with heavy gaming with starcraft 2, multitasking or such. -

-
Uhmmm, right, I understand perfectly.
So, i decide go with i7. Because i'll not have any future costs with a upgrade.
The Sager reseller in Brazil are in discussion about the battery 48wh to 62wh promotion.
I came in contact with both and i'm trying a lot to get this battery.
Let-me make a question about this battery upgrade, How much time will increase this upgrade?
Warm regards. -
XoticPC the NP7110 are out till sometime next week ?
-
-
I got order update today from Xotic
"There has been a slight delay at Sager on your machine. They are estimating arrival time of the NP7110 model sometime next week. Your order will move through production once they have a machine available to complete your order." -
Just pulled the trigger on this. Ordered from DarkPC as they had a better student discount!
Got this build:
1900x1020 LED LCD screen
i50-450
Nvidia 330
4gb kingston ram
320 scorpio black hard drive
intel 6200
I think I am going to be very happy about it! I plan on ordering the larger battery when it comes out!!
I will post some pictures and such when I get mine for everyone. If anyone wants an tests/info about this machine feel free to PM me! -
congratz
-
I think 'IC Diamond Thermal Paste' is FREE at DarkPC, but at other resellers you have to pay for it.

I'm embarrassed to be so paranoid but has there ever been a case where a worker forgets to apply thermal paste or applies the wrong one? I ordered through Sager.
-
Okay got mine today, Ordered it from Darkpcs.com, great job guys. Perfect order nothing missing or wrong.
Have a question though, most laptops and pcs have a key you can hit to get to a boot menu when the computer is starting. Like you can hit F2 to get in setup? Does this computer have that? Looks like while installing drivers and etc I had time to find it myself..F1 -
Hello,
I have been trying to get in contact with Justin so I can receive an RMA number and shipping label to get mine fixed, and I haven't received a reply email in three days.
Justin, would you please respond to my emails? I have to leave for University on Sunday the 22nd so I would like to get this RMA taken care of.
Thanks

Huh, So running into a road block here on updating the video driver.
On the nVIDIA driver it will not accept the standard 330m driver, which I expected. What I did not expect it would not accept the latest Optimus driver, which would be helpful as it is suppose to contain an updated control panel to show what is using the discrete graphics when hovering your mouse over it.
Anyone a clue what is going on here with that stuff? -

I'm trying to wrap my head around what the 5125 is gonna get me compared to an i7/330m MBP, so far obviously the price is a huge plus for the 5125, the battery life (just in OSX?) is better on the MBP and I like the aesthetic of the 5125 so even though the MBP has that nice aluminum I don't see it as a negative for the 5125. I'm not actually considering paying $1500+ for a MBP though, so it's just a comparison of the similar parts to see what other benefits there are to the 5125.
Anyhoo, it looks like the 3dmark vantage and 3dmark06 scores are a little higher on the np5125 (great!), but why is that? Is it really just as simple as a small underclock of the 330m it seems might be on the MBP?
Also, what's up with the battery life on the 5125? I had thought for sure that it would get more than 2-2.5 hours of charge with optimus doing it's thing, does this sound right or what? My dv7t with a 230m and a 720qm actually can get about 2 hours of charge, I would have thought a newer dual core with integrated graphics would get at least 4. Is the standard battery a little underwhelming so the extended one that comes out later is really what I should go for?
Being a custom laptop made by what seems to be a somewhat "specialist" brand, is there any "general" support for overclocking? Like unlocked PLLs or whatnot, for example an m11x needs a physical mod to overclock . I'd probably get the CPU with the clocks I wanted anyway and not overclock but I'm curious since it seems after the i7s and i5s with turbo boost came out, I don't see as much hubbub about overclocking laptops anymore. Is there any reason for this?
Finally, I was wondering whether or not any company other than rjtech will actually sell the laptop to me barebones (no cpu, ram or HDD, maybe even no wireless card, especially if 5125 supports half mini-pcie since I have a few I use for pen testing), I'm a DIY geek so I'm enticed by that prospect and I like the presence of you guys on the forum! -

Does upgrading from 4 gb RAM to 8 gb RAM help performance significantly and/or does it also use battery up more quickly? Also does this laptop support 1333 Mhz RAM?
-
If you do heavy multi-tasking, upgrading from 4 to 8 can help you multi-task better. 1333 MHz RAM supposedly not supported for this machine, but you still can plug that in with speed cut to 1066 MHz.

Thanks for the info VZX.

That doesn't look so good :/
@Pass47: Have you tried 257.xx (251.27 IIRC) driver for GT330M?
EDIT: oh wait nvm, that's the desktop's driver -

Wow...that is a downer :-( Let's hope stays on the ball with that or someone figures out how to create some optimus drivers that work
-
NVIDIA DRIVERS 189.79
That should be a link to the driver we would use I guess...
I am not sure why they are apart from the main mobile driver since it supports Optimus too.
So yeah this is kind of a big deal.. I am not sure if this is a Clevo fail or nvidia fail. I believe this has to do with an exception of support listed in the mainstream mobile driver.
NVIDIA DRIVERS 258.96 WHQL
Is what I would consider the mainstream driver.
This could just be a case of having to add an entry to an INF file to get the optimus drivers installed.
I am also having issues getting the manual switch to work. Am I missing something? -
189.79 is the driver that I am using since it is provided on the drivers cd. 258.96 is the up to date driver that errors out. Hopefully a fix is not too far off.
-
Damn, I ordered a Sager 5125, and all are having a big problem with drivers?
Is this a generally case or a specific case?
Thanks... -
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
There is no problem with the driver, it is only that the Certified Driver from Sager/Clevo is what works for the unit at this time. Sager keeps up with drivers and once a new one is released they will have it on their website.
