You know what I found? My hard drive can't keep up with the hardware acceleration of the gpu (or something can't keep up), and I stutter when I have a lot of things going, switch windows fast, have video + other things going. Try lowering your hardware acceleration and see if it helps (it did for me).

Where do you go to lower hardware acceleration?

It'll be interesting to see how the 4870 does in this laptop as I've heard a lot of good things about it's performance in desktops as of late.

On another note, looks like I can't hold my breath long enough to get my laptop. Some delay has moved to production to next Thursday, meaning a little over a week longer then expected. Dunno when it'll be shipped but maybe I'll get to join the ranks here soon enough...

It's a weak argument, but going with what notebookcheck has written for power requirements for the 9800M GT, 4850/70, = 65, 45/65, it looks very possible that at least a 4850 could fit into the M860TU.

    Hello everyone,

Been a long time. Though i am glad that my sager is finally back after RMA and is working. I would like to mention here that powernotebook poeple were really helpful and it is because of them that my laptop could be repaired in such a short span!!

So what did i miss in the past 2 months??? Any thing exciting?

Right click on desktop -> settings -> advanced -> troubleshooting -> hardware accelerator slider (that's XP). Don't set it to "none" or else no 3d games will work, and slide it up for intensive games I guess.

The new nVidia drivers (2/10/09, official site) also helped me a bunch. Stutter doesn't happen at all when I run video off an external eSATA drive, so it's notebook drive related, imo. Solid state HD in this thing is definitely on my to-do list (once they're better/cheaper).

Welcome back mate. The only thing you've missed is the new 17"+ Clevo notebooks which will boast the new G280M Nvidia cards. Oh, and I'll be testing out the new 4800 ATi cards in the M860TU, maybe next month.

Its seems as though my M860TU doesn't recognize the 3870 I've tried to install in it, it's most likely a BIOS issue.

I haven't been able to edit the M860TU's BIOS through the usual means as of yet either.

I would just inform that the new DOX 182.05 with "balanced" setting driver gave me a huge boost in 3dmark06. Before I had around 9350~ or less with different drivers (incl. old dox drivers), but now with the new dox driver the score ended up at 9485 at stock clock!

I will do a run on 3dmark06 with a oc also just to see...

Has anyone been playing GTA 4 with this notebook? Will upgrading the CPU from p8400 to the p9600 make an impact on the game's performance?

    - Use RMclock Eivind! The disadvantage is that RMclock doesnt support half-multipliers, so you will loose about 100mhz when you undervolt the P9500. (9,5x org. and 9,0x support in Rmclock)

    - GTA 4 is playable on high settings, and changing a CPU will give you a fps boost since GTA 4 is highly CPU bound.

Great News! Mr. Stratton called to let me know my delayed processor came in on time Friday to complete it's burn-in time nearly on time. Which means I'll either be the proud owner of my first laptop on Friday if luck so happens to favor me, though the following Monday is better then no day <3

I'm still feeling that expectation of greatness coming my way. Now to compile a list of things I want to do to it....

I plan on running XP Pro still, to avoid headaches and I'm familiar with it. My new endeavor will be to dual-boot Linux, for use of everything besides games. Should be an interesting time to say the least... (I tend to break things just to see it happen lol)

Two more days and I'll be wireless and home-free <3

well i am planing on using just windows 7 beta on my 8660.
I am not going to dual boot, as my limited experience with win 7 shows it boosts battery life and the performance which is great.

Are there any known issues with win7 beta on this laptop???

I have used Win7 on my M860TU with no issues so far, I still have Vista on Dual Boot for when the beta expires but haven't touched it in ages. All games I've played have no problems whatsoever.

The only minor issue I had was the Driver disk doesn't reconize Win7 and said I didn't have the correct OS, probably can be solved by Compatibility Mode but I didn't bother as I was just wanted the .infs without the bloatware.

Has any one tried using a mini-SD card in the card reader?

    Although Clevo says it's a "7-in-1 Card Reader (MMC/RSMMC/SD/ Mini-SD/MS/MS Pro/MS Duo)", it doesn't seem like mini-SD is supported.

I put a mini-SD in a SD adapter, which made it the same size as a regular SD card.
I wouldn't put a mini-SD card in there, as they tend to get stuck.

I have an adapter as well, but it is damaged; so I tried to see it would work without it, since Clevo lists mini-SD as one of the supported cards.

    It seems it doesn't.

I think they put a disclaimer in the manual or somewhere about that, saying it's mini-SD with an adapter. I was disappointed about that too.

Do you remember the price drop of Vista ( http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/29/vista-prices-officially-go-down-but-will-consumer-interest-go-u/) ? I'll wait few months after the release before betting Win7. I also hope they'll have a student deal like the Ultimate Steal ( http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/theultimatesteal-us/default.aspx).

Ah wait you are running windows7 right?

I just found out from nvidia that their notebook drivers are not supported on the new win 7 .Here is an option for this :

"NVIDIA drivers for Windows 7 Beta

NVIDIA drivers for the Windows 7 Beta release can be downloaded directly from Microsoft’s Windows Update service.

    Instructions:

    1. After a fresh installation of the Windows 7 Beta, click on the Start button.
    2. Click Windows Update (it will be pinned to the top of the start menu). You can also type “Windows Update” into the start menu Search to locate Windows Update.
    3. Within Windows Update, locate and install the NVIDIA driver update (it will either be an important update or an optional update depending on your system)."

it wasnt previously this hot (i sent it back to rma for a faulty bios update i carried out on my own)

Now after coming back it is constantly at 61c now my ambient is 24c. This happened prevously but installing a driver update did the trick and reduced the temp to 50 which was acceptable. But i had to format my comp and i forgot that driver.
Can some one help me plsssssssssss

    Hello All:
Through much deliberation, I have settled on purchasing the M860TU. Now I am just going through the process of deciding which goodies I want to order with it.
My questions is: what is the quality of watching Blue-ray on this notebook. I'm debating whether to get the Blue-ray drive, or to stick with the standard drive as it has the Dual Layer writing capability and the Blue-ray does not (from my understanding). The two scenarios I'm warring over is that, with Blue-ray i get a very nice clean picture where i can watch my movies in bed and enjoy the player as well as being able to hook it up to the TV to experience movies that way. Or just save the $160 if you can't notice the on-screen quality of Blue-ray on the notebook.
I want to make sure that the money I spend will have return on happiness as this is a pretty hefty price tag for me (end cost a little over $2,000)

    Thanks For Your Input

I don't know if you already have Blu-ray disks, but IMO, I'd pass on it and buy a BD later on when they're cheaper. An external drive might also work. Regardless, they're awful expensive right now, and surely will drop in price, as Blu-ray gets more common and useful.

Of course, if you already have a lot of Blu-ray disks, buy all means get it now. The quality is supposed to be very noticeable on the NP8660's screen.

98GTX already undervolted to 0.95V. With stock 1.03V GPU always downclock itself....

    A few questions/comments for you....

Where'd you buy an M860TU with the 9800M GTX?

About the GPU downclocking, have you tried using Nibitor to raise the temperature threshold? Also, I see you have the newer GTX with the higher shader speeds, so you could try lowering the shader clock to 1250. I've also heard that the new Nvidia drivers tend to run hotter than others, so maybe try 182.08 to see if you lose a couple degrees.

You should undervolt your CPU. My T9800 runs a bit on the hot side, but it stays in the low 70s after my undervolting. Your X9100 might lose 100MHz though.

Also thought undervolt CPU, i didn´t want to lose the 0.5 multi so i did the hardwaremod to uv it to 1.1125V (default 1.2625V), maxtemp lowered ~12°C.

Now is still fighting against GPU hot temp. :D
