Nice share :) As for the wireless card, I didn't make this a big issue but my laptop is getting disconnected few times, I don't know if its my (retarded) school wireless or my laptop itself (should check that back home) but its kinda annoying, even after updating the drivers. But, I'm not getting totally disconnected, its Windows Live Messenger that gets disconnected suddenly, while the connection stays on... The exact problem? I don't know so I'll keep this low. Btw, I have a 5300.

Nope, there was no wireless drop down menu option to select different cards. Those who ordered from the Group Buy should all get the same wireless card though.

Update on 105'C core temp (picture on pg 75 if you don't remember). Yes it hit 105'C, even after I'd unblocked the vent.

Went inside, discovered there was no thermal paste on the CPU sink. An hour, some elbow grease with the brasso and a new layer of AS5 later, idling 48'C peaking 56'C.

Higher ambient probably reason for the now higher idle. I hope, anyway...

And those oil changes? Your car does fine without them. And that teeth flossing's way overrated.

I fail to see the relationship, if you want to compare is like buying a car but then you need to buy the radiator and cooling system separately. I never used a cooler unless overclocking was the aim, now since I had one I keep the notebook on it for the nice tilt it gives, I don't have it plugged in even 10% of the time ;).

PS flossing was so way off I can't find a way to correct the comparison :D.

Haha :) I made myself laugh with that comparison, but yeah oil change wasn't a good comparison (it's the example I said to a friend who said that laptops never need cleaning/vacuuming out dustbunnies etc. - failed here). Flossing well - preventative care, just like a cooler is preventative care imo. If you're pushing your system to the limit (and I count games like Crysis at max res, medium settings to be doing this) you should take care of your system. Saying "no notebook should need one" is pretty daft if you're complaining that the system that you're pushing to the limit isn't performing as cool as, say, a Thinkpad without a graphics card.

Every gaming laptop requires special attention.
    Like a race car.
You stress it much more than your average Joe, so you need to put it under maintenance more often.

with a cooling mat my the highest temps i have seen it 90c core temps and the HDD at 65c

Id imagine that without a cooling mat they might get as high as 105c but i have no interest in finding out.

I do agree though this laptop is a high end gaming laptop. It can run fine at idle but when gaming why not help it out. $50 for longer life out of the computer seems to be a good deal to me.

That seems really high, especially for core. Do you live in the tropics or something?

No, Boston. Way out of character, hmm. Sure you're running the right SATA drivers? Even with that, the cpu's way high.

First of all, thanks to all contributers in this thread, you should be payed by Clevo, you just convinced me again to buy the m860tu.
I ordered the machine from danish reseller Novabook, the 7th of september! After some waiting, phonecalls etc. they finally caved in and told me that the 3g modem that were supposed to be included in my machine wasn't in stock and they didn't know when, so the waiting game began and that basicly has delayed my machine until now. In the meanwhile i searched for better alternatives throughout the computer market, noone really matched my requirements. Then i waited for the new MBP... glare screen my ***... Yesterday i read this thread (well.. most of it anyway) and got convinced about the m860tu again, mainly due to the somewhat low noise emission and the matte screen on the 1920x resolution. So today i called my reseller and hurried the order, without the friggin 3g modem that don't exist. P9500, 4GB ddr, 4GB Robson, 320 GB 7200 rpm hdd, 9800 gt, intel 5300 wireless etc. So i thought i would now be a happy man, but what worried my was, that the sales guy said that all the screens were the glare type! WHAT! Is this true?? So now I'm thinking of ditching the danish reseller, and find a european one, that sells the machine with the matte screen, any recommendations??

Hm, sorry about the wall of text

Hi Lapatata and welcome to the forum.
great spec youve got above and you will not be dissapointed after the long wait.
if you are now thinking of cancelling and getting it from another euro seller i can highly reccommend Kobalt in the uk (link in sig below) and they defo sell the matte screen.

Heh, I've actually allready configured a machine on Kobalt, it seems like a nice reseller, and yes, they do have the matte screen. Only thing is, everywhere I've looked, the 1920x1200 screen is always matte. Is it possible the sales guy got it wrong? As i understand it, Clevo sells the barebones with the screens allready mounted, so how have they got a glossy 1920x screen at the danish reseller?

Sorry about all the posts. I now called Novadata and made them go check the screen again, and big surprise, it was matte, why didn't they do this in the first place?
Anyway, I'm still considering Kobalt as I haven't been satisfied with the level of service provided by Novadata, they all in all seem a bit slow and daft :S. How is the service at Kobalt? I will be buying the 3 year insurance with the machine, but in a possible RMA I will be forced to ship to England, but can I atleast be sure that Kobalt will get things done with a reasonable pace? Will I have extra expences when it comes to shipping?

... gah, it's hard to make choices.

Man, just had to realise that the posts need to be approved before editing etc. Sorry about doubleposting, it seems one got filtered, good :).

Anyway, I've decided to give novadata a week, and if they don't serve me wine and grapes, I'll be ordering at Kobalt. Novadata is a bit cheaper and have a 2 year warrenty included, so hopefully I'll be a happy man within a week or so. Thanks for helping me help myself Deej.

First time poster, long time troll, reporting.

Just like to say a big thank you to the whole nbr-community, and this forum particular. While waiting for my Kobalt Nexus it's been great read and it's given me lots of tips and tweaks to try out on my little baby that arrived yesterday :)

I can only join in on the praising on this comp. After installing the latest gaming-tweaked drivers i still got 9600~ 3dmark06 score which seems more then fair.

My only worry so far is... The heat. :) My HDD is constantly at 55-59 degrees (this while i fixed tweaked alot yesterday and moved files and such so i guess the HDD was constantly working) and during my 3dmark06 run the cpu temps ran up to 61c for Core0 and 68c! for Core1. Nothing to be overly worried about, or?

Gonna push it with a full night of Warhammer online sunday and keep a close eye on the temps.

congrats on your Nexus, it is a beast isnt it.
your HD temp is ok'ish. its when it gets to 65c you need to worry.
if you join the Kobalt Forum (in siggy below) there is a page ive posted with all the software you will ever need to monitor all your temps.

    I can recommend Notebookguru:
    http://www.notebookguru.de/index.ph...-31&xploidID=vvtp14m270huh7fghbiv8m3iml21l9nq

I ordered my laptop last wednesday, payed it on thursday per online banking. They got the money on friday, shipped it on the same day. And since last saturday I am he proud owner of M860TU (including P9500, non-Glare, BlueRay, 4 GB etc :D) .

Their support is first class, until now I have only heard positive things about them.

Additionally they give some student discounts, so there is the possibility to save some more bucks.

Hi - just got my NP8660 and was wondering what kind of detail people expect in terms of opinions and observations. I am not at the technical level of most here so i'm not going to post really detailed numbers, although i do intend to do some basic benchmarking. So, if i have a lot of detailed observations with some very basic benchmarking, is that a separate thread, do i post verbose comments here, or is the time for verbosity past?

I went with P9500, Nvidia 9600M GTS, 2GB RAM, no turbo, 320GB 5400rpm HDD, 1680x1050 glossy display, standard warranty (my VISA doubles that) and the total was $2,099 + $300 tax.

the only GPU available now for the m860tu at aussie here is the 9800 GTS, what I'm confused is, whether the difference between the 9800 GT and GTS is noticeable,if yes,I would rather wait for a newer version with better GPU, anyone know when the newer model is coming?

9800M GT > 9800M GTS but the performance difference does not worth the price.

Btw, I started noticying the whinning noise. Plugged a USB drive and its less high-pitched now....

Dude, what are you talking about? The 9800m GT totally OWNS the 9800m GTS. I feel sorry for the 9800m GTS owners. Hell, the only way to get it now is to buy it from someone who is selling their laptop. That's the only way!

Yeah, happened to me for the first time today. Normally, its there's a small sound but you can't even notice it except if you stick your ear to the keyboard. Really annoying. Happens when Im on IE8. I click on a link...the noise changes, click another link, noise frequency changes again. Really weird...

Just a little update on the laptop:

-Tried to use Nero Burning ROM, the optical drives pops out then the system completely freeze, like total lockup. No way of getting it back, had to force shutdown then it couldn't boot at the first time but worked at the second time *relief*.
-Tried to put the computer in hibernation. The screen stayed black while being on. After a while, it crashes then restart with the "Windows didn't not shutdown properly..." message
-Whinning noise: USB drive plugged in helps a bit.

In one sentence: great hardware, poor drivers.
Could a BIOS flash help it?

    An update from me too:

-HDD still gets really warm when not on a cooler, idle at 57 easily. Goes into the 60's easily if i'm doing stuff. But with a cooler doesn't rly go above 55 stays between 47-55.
-Comes out of sleep mode far too easily, last night i put it in sleep mode and then it was on again when i woke up. (When i found out it idled at 57 all night :S)
-Interferance from the fan at the back means that my external 22" monitor has refresh lines on it a lot. Only stops when i go into silent mode, and gets FAR worse when playing a game.

    Other than that absolutely fantastic.

    I just got my Nexus from DHL.... :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
I'm over the moon. It looks amazing and is worth more than our car.
I know that with some electronical products you have to charge them for a full 24 hours before using them in order to prolong the batteries life. Is this the case with the M860TU/ Nexus. Surely Kobalt would have had to charge it fully before testing it and installing Vista?
So should i charge it for 24 hours or just charge it till the green light comes on?

Don't expect to receive the battery fully charged, but you only have to charge it until it says it is 100% charged in your System Tray. This won't take more than 3-4 hours or less, depending on the percentage charged when you receive it. There is no reason to charge it for 24 hours.
