Yes, I tested that two years ago. Worked without problems, the OS was Vista and showed 8 GB.
I read that only 6,8 could be used, maybe so. Windows 7 shows if you can´t use all of it, but Vista didn´t, so I can´t say if that was the case.
Never had any problems with it.

    Hi all,

First off must say am loving this thread. Awesome bits of informations. Secondly i am having a major issue with me ol laptop. I suspect its the 8800gtx finally flaking out after heavy 3d app use.

Here is a pic of what im getting on bootup. Anyone seen something similar? Is it GPU related? If not then is there any way i could diagnose what is wrong?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi molman !

If I were you I would plug an external display and activate it with Fn+F2 or Fn+F7 (I don't remember which one, don't have the manual handy). A working external display would likely mean the GPU is OK, hence it's the LCD...

Yep, that looks like a failing GPU. Try an external display to rule out any LCD issues, but barring that you can try the link below to bake the GPU as a last resort to bring it back:

    Thanks for the feedback fellas.

I tried the old FN 2 and FN 7 trick to get the other display to respond but nothing seemed to happen. I also tried the windows key + p but again nadda happened the other screen just didn't switch on.

I was reading up on baking last night and wondered if there were any more specific steps for my sort of GPU

Or is it a case of remove all plastic, bake for 7 mins at 200C?

Also does anyone know if there are any cheapish replacement cards (under £150) i could get (I work as a QA for software company testing GPU enhanced products and know full well the arguments between quadro and geforce). Saying that id like this to be a bit of both, working in 3d apps and occasionally playing some games.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks again!

Im gonna bite the bullet and purchase a 9800m replacement for £150 from MXM, as its a pretty good price for delivery, heatsink paste and year warranty. I debated the 3700m quadro but with no guarantee it would work i didnt want to fork out £300+ (im not the most technical of people and bios messing around sounds a bit complex)

Can anyone direct me to a tutorial for how to upgrade my RAM from 4 to 8gb? Also is this quite a complex procedure or is it fairly easy to do?

What system BIOS do you have? 9800m gts should be supported as it was officially offered by the Sager resellers at the time.
You may need to update to the latest .13 BIOS found on this web page:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/556299-clevo-bios-older-models.html
or/and check with an external monitor to eliminate the possibility of a broken video card.

    Hi all,
Having major issues with my daughters M57ru laptop. The screen started to go dark after about 20 mins of use, then it failed all together.
I assumed it was the inverter and sure enough, when I connected the screen up to an old laptop, the back light came on.
I ordered a 'new' inverter but when it arrived, it didnt work. Got another one and same thing.
Checked the cable going from the motherboard to the inverter and it seemed fine.

So after stripping it down and checking all i can, Im at a loss.

The screen will light up if connected to another laptop so the screen and back light are fine. In use you can see the image on the screen but it is very dark as the back light is not on.

Connecting the laptop to an external monitor works fine so the Graphics card is fine.

Any ideas what to do next? I took it to a local PC repair shop and the guy said it sounds like the inverter. After a couple of days I get a call saying its not the inverter and that he had ordered an inverter cable and it would be a few days as it was coming from the US.

2 weeks later after me calling a few times I get another call to say he now thinks its an issue with the mobo.

The system is about 4 yrs old and has been a great laptop up until now.
Any help or advice greatly appreciated.

    Hi All,
I brought m57ru in uk three and a half years ago with the 8700 gpu in it.
It has been great laptop....used daily without problem until recently.
It has died..all I get is the power light and battery light on amber then when I press the power button they go out.
    Not sure what to do...
Is it a hardware failure...I know hdd is ok because it is working from this laptop,
    Mobo or cpu broken ?
Please could anyone give me any ideas what to do?
    Many thanks Darren

GPU is the most common hardware part to fail in M570RU, but then the laptops loads at least to OS boot screen?

Anybody know where i can get a DC power jack replacement???

jack is fried, am gonna attempt to replace it, if it does not work i will be parting it out, all the parts were working when the jack fried, so i have most likely a bunch of good working parts.

    Hello all,

I'm desperately seeking for the Fan Control firmware for my Clevo M57RU, which doesn't seem to be available (anymore ?) on the Sager website.

By the way, i'm considering upgrading to the newest BIOS if necessary, and i can't find it on the Clevo downloads page...

(I'm currently using Bios and KBC/EC revision 1.00.03)

I'm struggling for quite a bit of time with these issues (Fan noise is the main concern for me, as i'm using the laptop for music recording, which requires as much silence as possible)...

Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you.

I don´t remember if the EC firmware is included, you have to take a look at it...
But this is the latest SAGER BIOS I used with my 570RU 3 years ago...

Hey guys, I'm selling my M571RU... Does anyone know if the GPU for this laptop is on the motherboard or does it use a PCI graphics slot? Also, how many hard drives can this laptop be configured to take? A potential buyer is asking and I'm really not sure about the answers...

    Hi all,

    Got a Q:

I have a Rock 770 Xtreme (M570RU) in need of a bios battery replacement.

I don't see one on Fle-bay, and popping-off the rear cover, I can't see the actual battery to identify it there either.

Is it under the keyboard, or somewhere else?

Do you know where I can get a replacement without being robbed by Rock?

    Regards.

    Hello there,

I have the same question as Eriko above (replace BIOS battery), and also I have the following situation:

My M57RU came with a 9800m GTS, but somehow the VGA fried or something wen't really wrong.

Me and my brother we own the exact same laptops M57RU (at least I think this is the one), so I changed my VGA with his and then his computer worked fine, but mine had the same problem (BSOD on windows 7 boot) with his VGA, and the screen is showing blue spots when using the bogus VGA in both laptops, so it's proven that the problem is the VGA.

I bought another VGA from ebay NVIDIA 9800M GTS 512M DDR3 G94 700 A1 NB9E GT MXM 2 0 VGA Card P610 for Laptop | eBay and it arrived today. I replaced the VGA as I should. While booting the laptop beeps 4 times and then shuts down while the message in screen displays NVIDIA 9800M GTS - ENGINEERING RELEASE VERSION.

How can I fix this problem? Is it a BIOS upgrade required or something?

Update: I've update do the latest BIOS 13aSL as written here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/556299-clevo-bios-older-models.html but I had no luck on solving my problem since the system stills shuts itself down :( I'm still loking for the answer

    Thank you.

Quadcores are NOT supported with the M570RU.
The best you can use is the X9000. All core 2 duo models with the FSB 800 MHz will work, not the ones with 1066 MHz.
So you can use X9000, T9500, T7800, T7700 and so on, but you can NOT use X9100, T9600, T9300 and so on, the BIOS will not support them.

Oh some1 still read this. Ok so cpu upgrade not worth it as i have already T9300. About gpu i have a question as i read some posts, regarding FX3700m. I have been using it for 2 years. No prob, till few weeks. I had been playing few games i didnt noticed that temp was 78, 84 and etc. few times it shut down because of temp, i forgot to clean dust ant remove old thermal compound and put new, usually i do it every 2 or 1 year... Now i have problem when i start for example WOT or any other game when gpu reaches 69-70 black screen. Some times when even temp is only 63 or 61 i get errors like nvdmxx.sys crashed, restored and etc. So the question is. Did i fried my gpu ? Possible solution to it maybe "backing" method...

It´s hard to say. Did you try reinstall the drivers?
Did you made any other changes to the system?
What are the temps of the CPU?

Of course it could be that you fried your GPU. But before backing it, I would try all other options.

And yes, there are not many people who read this thread anymore, but you can get more attention if you´ll post in the "Sager and Clevo" forum and not in the owners lounge. There is a chance that some more people will read your thread :).

System yes it is clean install, hdd was changed to hybrid.
CPU in idle 40, full load i see max 58 if i remember correctly.
    So far testing goes:

Tried bios 1.06v .10 bios modded, same
Tried bios 1.06v .10 bios modded, temp limit for throttling 68, no black screen, but drivers crash
    Tried bios .10 same
Tried bios .10 with temp limit for throttling 68, no black screen, but drivers crash

Tried org. bios .05 with 68 limit, core set 540mhz instead of 550, no drivers crash everything stable. it goes the same with other bioses if i lover core to 540.

So i don't get it, why 2 years it ran normally full clocks even with overclocking ( 560, 820 ) and now i need to set to 540 :) to solve driver crash...

Hey guys, I've recently been given a Rock branded M57RU. Odd problem on this one - my friends tell me (and I have no reason to doubt them, one of them is a Policeman the other a Teacher!) that it was working fine, then one day, nothing.....

I've checked it over, it does power on, seems to start POST (Disk, then Wireless comes on, then Disk again for a few seconds...) but there is NO display at all. Tried connecting a monitor, still nothing and yes I tried the Multi-Display and Sleep Fn keys.

I took the GPU out (an 8800M) and cleaned off the dried up crap of TIM and reapplied so Artic MX-4. Put it back in, nothing. Took it out, I get POST beeps. Put it back in Nothing.

Any ideas? Is it a new GPU time - I hope not. ANy ideas greatfully received.

    Cheers,

    Fletch

Ha yesterday another thing what i found on back on my laptop. I reapplied thermal compound to gpu, and i thought to take a look at chipset heatsink. And what i found. It was a little bit lose, and when i removed there was pad (blue one) sticked to chipset due to overheating i think, brownish and etc. So i cleaned it carefully and applied copper plate and then heatsink, as without it or new thermal pad it wouldn't touch the chipset. More testing tonight :)

    Hello,folks...

I'm a new owner of a Clevo M57RU that I picked up at a yard sale.I have two questions/issues.First,while it runs reasonably well (more on that in a minute) I'd like to reformat the HD to bring it back to original factory specs.Does anyone know how I can obtain the appropriate restore discs? Might anyone be willing to lend me theirs? Of course I'd pay all expenses to anyone willing to do so.Second...a funny situation. The unit powers up and runs reasonably well with the battery removed and being connected to the wall plug.OTOH,with the battery installed...*nothing*.Thinking that a fried batter was the cause I bought a new one.Got it...installed it...still nothing.Anyone have any thoughts? Could there be a simple solution...the replacement of a fuse or resetting a circuit breaker? TIA!

Hi lister038, I have all the Windows 7 x64 drivers. Contact me and we'll arrange to send them to you. It should work well with Windows 7 x64, haven't had any issues with it running on Vista x64 and Windows 7 x64. Send me a PM and we'll arrange a way. As for the battery issue, it could be Mainboard issue (Battery connections on the mainboard, or the battery itself). I suggest you continue use it on the PSU (wall plug), if you don't want to run into expenses, if you find them unnecessary (depends if you plan to use it regularly on a battery or not).

Hi guys, I need to replace the CMOS battery.

Here's the thing, when the notebook is switched on after a day or so, it says date and time not set. When Windows Boots up, most of the system icons don't appear and the time is reset. Then I reboot the system, all the system icons re-appear. So most probably if I replace the CMOS battery this issue is fixed right?

Also does the notebook has the CR232 CMOS battery like common computers? I'm asking this because I've been working in IT for the last 3 years, and I've met with some CMOS battery sort of "molded' onto the mainboard (netbooks and some lightweights). Now I know that this notebook isn't a lightweight (Quite a heavyweight :p). Just to know before I disassemble and find that I don't have the right part to replace.

Also can I use the Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound on the GPU same like the CPU? I plan to clean it up, since I have to disassemble the whole system to replace the CMOS battery. The system has no issues apart from the CMOS battery.

    Thanks.

All sager/clevo machines use the standard battery, I would assume it is the culprit though you can use a multimeter to check.

You can use that paste on the CPU and GPU though there are modern alternatives available that are not capacitive.

    Gents,

Where does the bios battery reside on this machine?

I have rear door and keyboard off, and don't see the dog dam thing.

    Where is it?

My laptop was working amazingly well for its age! But then one of its super stiff hinge broke the chassis apart while I was closing the screen!

The part that goes into the base chassis ripped the rear part and came out through there!!
Now I would need a new chassis, the base at least!

I tried contacting Clevo, Sager and xoticpc(from where I had originally purchased it) but they all said that its been discontinued and parts are not available! :'(

Can I hope of getting a new barebone chassis for my still functioning but structurally disabled laptop?

I'm not sure if I understood you correctly on the extent of the damage to your chassis, but I can't tell you how many times the hinges that hold the screen to my chassis have ripped out. My solution, which is currently working for me now has been Gorilla Glue Super Glue. The screws that hold my screen into the base have both broken, but when it pops out, I just pour some super glue in the screw hole and stick the screen back in. It sounds like your base chassis is actually damaged though, so I'm not sure if the super glue would work for you.

    Hello all,

I've had my M57ru since probably the beginning of 2008, but I never knew this Owner's Lounge existed, so I guess I'll just say I'm arriving fashionably late.

With the exception of a couple keyboard issues on account of my stupidity, (spilling water on the keyboard and then melting the keys trying to dry it with a lamp, followed by getting a replacement keyboard and then spilling water on it again, permanently disabling my Tab, S, D, G, and Windows Keys.) my laptop has always worked great.

I've never over-clocked it or abused it, but I did neglect to clean the internal parts for a long time which might have been my ultimate downfall in the end. Recently I installed the game Vindictus by Nexon on my Clevo and everything was running great.

Then I wound up leaving because I put it into high performance so I could download a large file without the computer going to sleep, after running for about a day, my friend was playing Vindictus again when the screen started glitching and blinking off and on and ultimately locking up the whole system, the only way to shut down being to hold the power button for 4 seconds.

After searching for various solutions, I wound up figuring out that if I underclocked the GPU, Shader and Memory Clocks of the card and it would bring back stability. It wasn't just the game as the same results would occur with FurMark as well. Things were working pretty well with underclocked settings, but I began slowly trying to work back up to stock speeds, but then I think the graphics card finally bit the dust. The computer crashed again, but now I can't get it to boot.

I wound up opening up the computer and pulled out a huge bunch of dust that was clogging the vents between the fans and the heat sinks to both the CPU and GPU. After cleaning it all out, I turned it on and the BIOS loading screen appeared, but then there were vertical lines running across the screen. I tried to reboot it, but now it won't load anything at all. I can't even get to the BIOS.

I have tried booting with one RAM stick, I have tried booting without the video card, I have tried booting without the WLAN card, nothing gets it to boot. Before when I turned it on, the fans would run but the display would remain black, but lit. Now when I turn it on the display doesn't light up at all, and it either beeps one long beep followed by two short beeps and then turns off, or it just beeps continuously and then turns off.

I don't know what to do. I suppose I am just looking for troubleshooting advice. I think the GPU may have simply overheated one too many times. If you guys have any recommended steps to take, please let me know.

    My specs are:

    Intel Core 2 Duo 2.5GHz
    NVIDIA Geforce 8700M GT
    4 GB RAM

Need any other specifics, let me know.

Thanks for letting me waste your time.

The system will refuse to boot without a GPU I believe, you could look out for a cheap replacement GPU, it will need to be the older MXM type (since you have taken the card out you know what it looks like), the newer type are a little wider with the gap in the slow more in the middle.

So since I determined that my GPU had to have gone bad, and I looked on a couple threads and saw that people with M57RUs with similar issues to mine have had success with baking the GPU to reflow the solder on the board. I figured I had nothing to lose so I baked it in the oven for 8 minutes at 385F. I let it cool down, plugged everything back in. Now it works like a charm.

So believe it or not, the baking technique actually worked to restore my video card, and now it works at full stock clock speeds without crashing the computer while running FurMark. So I'm glad to report everything seems to be in working order, now I just need to buy a replacement keyboard and I'll be set. Thanks for the help.

Unfortunately my reseller, Extreme Notebooks, went out of business years ago. Last time I tried to go to their website, it looked like they were selling tablets for medical use now.

I saw a replacement keyboard for a M57RU $60 on some website a couple of days ago, they seemed to sell some spare parts including the keyboard.

I cant recall if they were Sager resellers, if so you may try contacting Sager directly, or the spare one you've already found should work.
