I have a jewelers screwdriver that I got from a friend of mine and it fits perfectly. I'll ask him where he bought it.

R&J tech wrote replay, but the upgrade is to much expensive...

It was written that i need mobo upgrade if i want to use 8800gtx... Is that true?

And for processor i am trying now to sell my T7500... and preparing to buy a T9300. :)

NO YOU do not need the mobo upgrade. the 8800 works flawless and sleep works perfect also. all you need to do is flash the bios version 1.00.08 and use the updated driver and you will be just fine trust me, i have proven this many times over now

    Greetings,

Does the 5791 come equipped with a PCI express?

I thought it did but when I tried to use a PCI Express card, Vista did not even recognize that aything was plugged in.
I looked in device manager but did not see anything to do with PCI.
The card reader works just fine.
I have applied the most recent drivers.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you,
    MF

The 5791, like the 5793, has a 54mm Express Card Universal Slot - make sure you're using a card that's compatible with that standard.

PCI E ? that`s for the GPU, and yes, it has one.
If you meant Express Slot Card, then yes, it has that too, all you need is to install the drivers.

    Thanks,

WRT express card drivers, where can I find them? I don't see them specified on the Sager listing of drivers for my laptop (located here) unless they are part of the "CardBus & CardReader" set.

    Thanks again

Anyone else ever notice a little creak in their chassis? Basically mine has an intermittent creaky noise when pressure is applied at the left palm rest. I can't figure out what causes it to be there sometimes and not others, but it's pretty irritating. Anyone else experience this?

I don't have the cd around, but you should either find them on the cd with drivers,in "others" folder, or on sager's site, www.sagernotebook.com or even on Clevo's site, www.clevo.com (laptop is called m570ru/m571ru.)

No, but when the fan is running at medium (fn+3) I often get a loud whirring noise which is removed by applying pressure to either side of the keyboard. Anyone else got that?

Lobster, are you using the latest firmware? KBC 07sh?
the one before it cause vibrations in some of the RUs.
If not, you may want to try the previous firmware, contact your supplier to get the .g version just to compare them.

Oh; the RU-U underside is different!

It actually provides a spot for a third fan, directly over the processor. Including mounting hardware, power connector on the mobo and the works. I've got a spare fan of the right size, and I'm considering mounting it to that spot in search of lower operating temps as 48 degrees under full load is just too hot! :D

If anyone's interested, I'll put up pics of the RU-U underside.

Oh man, darn, I totally forgot about it.
    Well, it`s actually very easy.
You just need to unscrew a couple of screws, and then to remove the heatsink, all the screws are numbered in order.
    http://www.xoticpc.com/8800m-installation-guide-sager-notebook-np579x-8800m-a-41.html

Once you get it opened following that guide, it's all a matter of blowing out the dust and cleaning the fans thoroughly and GENTLY.

    Oh , woo hoo.
    I ain`t no professional photographer.
And yes, you`re right about that.
But the pics are meant to show the laptop in its splendor, and to show how nice it looks if you take care of it :D

Yes, the Ru-U has a different under side, it does provide a third spot for a fan, but I heard nobody saying that they actually have a third fan.(extreme edition)

I'm wondering if it will actually help much? I've got some sheet copper, so I figure I'll try out building a home-made heat sink to mount onto the basic heat pipe mount (flat metal areas on either side of the pipe itself) and give it a try, see what happens.

I'm figuring on it providing a lot more air flow within the chassis itself, keeping the rest of the system a bit cooler (particularly the hard drive?).

My concern though centers, I suppose, around the efficiency of the cpu's stock cooler. Will I just be offloading some of the cooling power of the heat pipe setup at a cost of additional power drain (+1 fan) but not actually gaining anything?

I'm going to try temporarily mounting the fan on the outside of the chassis, and see if it set up that way (sans home grown CPU heat sink) actually provides any measurable benefit. Fortunately, the tiny little fan is virtually silent, so if nothing else, if I can keep my CPU a little cooler before it needs to start up the main fan, then I may be able to delay use of the big, noisy clevo fan.

I always touch it with microfiber,I hate having to clean fingerprints and stuff.

    Hi lads!

Glad I got into this forum and thread, do you think is still worth it paying around 2000 Euros for this baby ?

Another thing, I'd like to get the wsxga panel cause I've seen the 1920 on a 17" and char are just way much too small for me, so my question is how is this 1680 panel ? Can I have some pics/videod to see the backlight and some action ?

    Thanks a mill

I have 1680 panel and it suits my needs. It is enough for games, video... But the brightness of panel could be better... maybe it is because my clevo 570ru is of the first generation... :/

Pics never really show off how monitors look properly :(

I've got the 1680 - an intentional choice, for a couple reasons:

    1) The difference gaming between 1680x1050 and 1920x1080 on a tiny little 17" screen is negligible at best. Most people won't be able to tell the difference, despite their claims.
    2) Resolution is one of the largest killers of graphics card performance. It requires vastly more processing power to handle higher resolutions, and LCD's look best in their native resolution. Ergo, games will perform better while still looking fantastic. It's a wierd little bit of future-proofing.
    3) In 2D modes (IE: general windows use) 1920x1080 is freaking tiny on a 17" screen. Yeah, you can use a larger font size, but that doesn't always carry over into all software, and wierdnesses can develop.

Anyways, the 1680x1050 looks marvelous. I actually tossed my acer 22" widescreen lcd (my old desktop's monitor, which I kept to use with the lappy) because it looked so crappy in comparison =)

It's bright when turned up, has very accurate colour reproduction, and is generally a sexy monitor.
