hey madpoet, i just read some of the posts the in the last couple of pages and it seems you already have the NP9850 already? I was on the xoticpc and the powernotebook websites and both still list it in pre-order stage?

    I have the Clevo version.

Ran my first Vantage test and came up at 11888 with stck speeds and Dox drivers. Kind of low...

ah so you're working with/at kobalt? Because I dont think the public can just up and order straight from clevo? My friend and I are quite a bit anxious since the initial ETA was July and then pushed back to early August then mid August and now the month is almost over! :(

No, I got mine from RJtech. They import barebones Clevos.

Something is REALLY screwy now. I downloaded the 190.38 drivers. Reran Vantage with Physix disabled and scored 9978! WTH...

Nope, just re-ran it. GPU score 9869 and CPU score 10493. I'm really SERIOUSLY confused. My CPU score was 29219 first run. What the heck is going on...

Ok, Physix back on and I'm back up to where I was for a GPU score. Crazy that it makes that much difference. I'm still kind of perturbed by how low the score is with it off, I expected a lot more.

PMan what driver version are you using now? What are you leaving your clocks at? :)

I do have to say with the SSD my boot time ROCKS.

Keep your clocks at default for gaming. Your system is powerful enough and it will last longer that way.

If you want to run benchmarks try the Dox 182.46 drivers and set your clocks at 630|1025|1575. You can raise it from there if you wish. The highest I run it at is 690|1065|1725. Pman was trying for 12K on the GPU with Vantage but he got just under 11.9K. You can test to see how high you get it if your interested.

By the way have you tried CPU OC yet?

Yeah, I installed the one from the CD but it didn't seem to help. Is it out on the Clevo site somewhere that I can try again? Haven't tried OCing yet, yesterday was more about getting the kinks out of the system. Today I'll work on the OC.

    you little £&$"£$

    :p

but just try those clock settings so i know if it is a limitation of the way the system is setup or if i just cant quite get there.

If you break my score at those settings (2.8ghz etc etc) then i know i should be able to squeeze more, if you cant then i know its more then likley my cpu setup

and then i can blame Clevo and taunt you with my bigger screen and 3 HDD's :p

Also, did you do the bios upgrade to 1.03? I'm still on 1.01.

Still not getting any of the touch controls working anymore. They were fine yesterday. I'm thinking when I allowed it to do the driver update for the unknown device it stopped working after that but I'm not sure. I don't show any bad devices in device manager so I'm not sure what to install/reinstall for it.

mate you need to install them from your driver CD that you was given with the laptop......DON'T let windows search for them....but enter the CD (IE explore CD) then install from the program folder......thats how I got mine to work

I have everything working in Win7 the only new driver i had to install was for the finger print scanner all the rest either were picked up in updates or I got off my driver CD (again don't let windows search for drivers install from the CD)

Yeah, that's what I'd done originally but I still had an Unknown device. So that's when I ran the update. I wonder which driver/device controls the controls though.

When I reinstalled vista I had to download and run all the drivers for the touch controls.

    Not sure it that helps.

I have just configured an m17x and it can be at my door in 12 or less days. I have a decision to make and need to figure out which system to get. On one hand I can get this alienware in 12 days or less, on the other hand I get the 980nu but there is no definate date for delivery and noone is even saying when Sager is going to be done with what it is that they are doing. What do you think I should do guys?

-Price is almost the same $100 or so difference

-Config is identical + windows in the m17x (but, don’t care about the OS)

-Customer service is dell vs. xPC so you know who wins there (XPC)<--- hands down

-And I will get my system in a timeframe that is outlined and guaranteed if I go with dell.

    - Which is the better system? I have read almost all of this forum since the 6th of this month and still cannot decide!

Personally I would stick with my M980NU as I've played with alienware (but never owned) its abit like your fav drink....once your hooked you never go back....I personally think you pay for the name in ALienware (remember price difference in the UK) However I'm sure you would be very happy with either system as they are both very very nice and very special bits of nuts and bolts

THis may sound a little strange but I have installed Win 7 twice now on my laptop (one was a test) and I couldnt get the touch controls to work the first time......however when I reinstalled again the other day it worked fine (as I said I installed manually from disc and not let windows do it)

You could try that......other than that I have no idea why they are not working!

Win 7 has a tendancy to install drivers for hardware that do not match up. I notice this on my np5796. I had sound driver issues causing win7 to hang at startup.

I would love to see your benchmarks.

There is a reason why you picked the M980 in the first place. I understand that sooner or later you'll have to cancel your order if you don't get it but you will have to make a decision on how long you're willing to wait. By the time the holidays hit there will be huge deals.

Regarding customer service doesn't xotic PC charge a $200 no dead pixel guaranty? There no such charge through Dell and if there is anything wrong with the screen regardless if it's a dead pixel or poorly illuminated screen Dell will replace it on site.

Anybody can run the DPC Latency checker with the M980NU and post a screenshot?
D901C and D900F fare better than M17x, so I would like to understand if it is the mobile chipset or the BIOS that is at fault for the DPC higher latencies in M17x.

the M17x has no issues and all my support with dell has been met with over night technician to my house :D

the M98NU is a great machine though ...

for me the looks and features beat out the M98nu .... the lights , aluminum, colors, UNLOCKED BIOS, 4870's coming ....the cooling is great to

ummm they are equal in the performance DEPOT except for a unlocked BIOS :p

My statement was purely referring to the DPC latency performance and therefore the audio capabilities. In no way I was referring about the raw or the gaming power.

The DPC latency in M98NU is interesting because there are only two possibilities: if it is OK then M17x has BIOS problems in this regard and if it is not OK then both M98NU and M17x share the curse of mobile chipsets in laptops (dah)
