I dont think there is much in the way of too many options for the BisonCam. Its basically gravy to try and help sell the system as an all-in-one job. I havent used it yet besides tinkering to see how to use it.

yea, the only time im going to use it.....well i wont ever really need to use it..

and i dont think there are any options to tinker with...just use some lighting behind you and see if that helps any.

Well, my XoticPC turned out to be a pretty good decision. I ordered on Friday, but they had some problems with my credit card. Called first thing on Monday, gave them a different one, and they had it shipped by that Friday. I'll have it by the 29th. So a total of about 10 days total waiting time from initial order to receipt of product. See if Dell can do that! (or approach prices anywhere close to XoticPC)
    : )

Now all I need is to save up for another 7950! >.<

Apparently the BisonCam options work for other things too, i just had to up the brightness a tad, and it made a world of difference... too much and the whole screen just turns white.
congrats Impugning, except.. you prolly should have went 2gbs.. and used that money toward the GFX card... i dunno if u need that much RAM yet... and yea, i think we all agree ALot of resellers can beat Dell in quality and speediness! lol

Thanks Doodles. I got the RAM extremely cheap from my job, and saved 45$ when I ordered the comp without RAM so it actually turned out to be cheaper than going with 2GB of 667 RAM from Xotic. And this way, I can turn of the paging file and see a definite performance increase.

    And yes, Dell sucks balls.

I'm actually thinking about investing in a Macbook (entry level) as well. I just won a 300$ gift card at work, and we sell $1099 Macbooks. I'll see if they match Apple's $999 for students, and then I end up paying 699 for a Macbook and spend ~100 to trick it out with 2GB.

That way, I have something to bring to class thats not 15 pounds. : P

Only thing is... I've never, ever used a Mac. lol

Thanks! I can't wait to see something that will give SLI to Bioshock...
If you look up the Anandtech review of the Alienware m9750, they slam mobile SLI as having next to no drivers for anything new. Basically, they got SH!T performance in Bioshock too... And got higher FPS when they actually DISABLED SLI.

Oh! I had never even looked at the first page. My name is in print! Awesome.

After reading that, it reminded me: Anymore news on the G0 Core2Quads and the D900? Are we still voiding the warranty even though the TDP dropped significantly?

go to the quadcore info thread at the top... basic story going on is alotta resellers are putting them in, meaning it should be part of the warranty. But many argue that they mite not have to fix it since the report said ur not supposed to put them in anyway. Either by next year, either a new processor will be out or the quads will be deemed safe in the D900... so just wait it out a bit... u dont rele need the quads now anyway unless coding.

Welcome to the club guys. Feel free to ask about your new systems. Usually, AlanP, Wu Jen, PBCustom (aka the three tech gods of 9260), or the other more active members that look here, can answer your question. This thread has been the best resource for me personally when looking for info about my laptop.

    Nice to have ya!

I am considering purchasing a fully loaded 9260/D901C.

I noticed the finish is more automotive like on the interior and wondered how much fingerprinting and heel of your hand printing there was on the wrist rest. Does it show a lot of hand/body oil residue after using it? I am also concerned about whether the finish leaves it a dust magnet.

Do I need to be obsessed with having to polish it after using it with a microfiber cloth, just to keep it from looking like a greasy fingered kid touched it?

What do you clean yours with, and what is your "keeping it clean" experience?

    Thanks.

in my experience with it, so long as you keep your fingers off the screen, a quick wipe with something as caveman as a plain napkin will make it pretty. If there are screen prints, then some spit on the napkin works fine.

As for grease or prints on the wrist rests... None is noticeable at all on the system I got, with no custom paint job. Yes, the factory look does indeed look nice. Its sturdy and scratch resistant, with a nice polish to it above the more textured looking under-surface. The genuine brushed aluminum lid plate is the most fragile piece of the aesthetics, IMHO, and seems to attract dust too.

All in all, its a lot more maintenance free (visually) system than I expected it to be.

Please do not use a paper napkin on your LCD screen...it will scratch it. Paper napkins are made of wood particles and will scratch the screen easily and completely ruin it after a while.

Here is a good article on screen cleaning and how to make your own cleaner for pennies compared to what you buy in the store.

Well, my notebook shipped today. Incredibly stoked as I already have the mouse, pad, wireless kb, hdmi cable, etc.

Are there any "essential" -type programs to get for this kind of laptop to optimize performance or otherwise get the most out of it?

This is the notebook btw for reference:

    NP9260
    17" WSXGA+ ◊ Core 2 E6700, 2.66GHz ◊ SLI 7950 GTX ◊ Vista Premium ◊ 4GB Dual Channel, 667MHz ◊ 200GB 7200rpm
I'm going to be gaming on it a lot, so really any basics I'm missing could really help.

    Hey Astro--

I don't know if there are "Performance" programs in this...(Been a while since i sifted through the thread) but check it out, lots of great freeware for windows on it!

It's a sticky in the windows OS software section.

Thanks dragoon, that's a nice collection. Always fun stocking up a new computer with software (well, ok, buying Photoshop can be a bit painful).

I saw on a forum people mentioned some sort of program for laptops that makes 3d/graphics work better. I have no idea if this is needed on the 9260 models or if it's more for lower-end laptops. I wonder if anyone knows about programs like this. Bit new to the forums, so it's likely I just missed the correct post/forum.

Looks great, not as big as I thought. It's heavier than I thought. Only hiccup so far was having to run out and get a wireless router because it wouldn't recognize the cable modem.

But I'm on line and d/ling Avast, windows updates and probably some benchmarking apps.

I know it has no battery life, but it is funnt to watche the gauge drop as you watch with nothing much going on.

One other observation, pretty damm quiet so far, though to be fair I haven't done much.

and yes Akilae, i moved this beast into my dorm room... its actually getting warmer than at home wen it was just on an open table... aw well... time to RIP through Bioshock with unbelieveable FPS on 1920x1200 MAXED settings... :notworthy:

phule, are you running 64bit vista? because my oblivion seems to crash randomly, maybe twice a day, but other than that it is extremely quick, i think i am going to go 32bit, or just stick to my plan and dual boot with xp.
