I know, but it seems that it has some sort of fine sparkling dust sprayed on the touch pad and it is wearing off quite easily. I am always feeling guilty when not using a mouse. It takes away from the looks, which oddly enough I like more than I would have expected from any of the reviews.

I am in this boat as well...I *really* need to flash the bios on my NP9262. Does *anyone* know where to download the latest bios from? Neither the Clevo nor the Sager site appear to have them. And Google is virtually useless to find it :-(
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
You will not find the BIOS available for anyone to download.
If you have a Sager you will need to email [email protected] with your serial number and your BIOS version, and request a later update if one is available. -
Thank you, Paladin. I have emailed Sager's tech support this morning to see if they can direct me to somewhere to get the BIOS to be able to flash this thing.
Sucks. I woke up yesterday morning to find that on boot-up my normal startup routines appear to be corrupted. The normal BIOS messages show random, garbled text in place of the normal text even before you get to the option for selecting system utilities on my NP9262.
Other than flashing the BIOS at this point and hoping to restore it, I am at a loss. Anyone else have any good suggestions?
(And yes, it will boot into Safe Mode and yes I have run Anti-Malware, Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, etc.) -

Can't help with the warranty, I'm afraid, but if you can actually get it to boot into Safe Mode, you're already past the BIOS. You hit the BIOS before you get to the OS, whether safe mode or normal. Hmm. The fact that you can boot into Safe Mode but not normal seems to imply that there might be a driver or disk corruption issue as well, or maybe your corrupt BIOS is causing some system incompatibility issues. Try running some HDD diagnostics to see if there's anything wrong. Beyond that... I think it starts depending on your OS and a few other things to determine the best way to proceed.

It would be nice to have the internal working properly too (without interference I guess) ... any tips ... anyone?
I have another challenge/problem. I also have the MCE Remote plugged in an USB port, it works fine until I have to use Wake on USB. I can use the remote to put it to sleep, yet when press the MCE button to wake it up, nothing happens.
I had a small MCE setup before ($600 one), I remember I had to go to the BIOS and enable wake on USB, but there is nothing os such sort in my D901C bios.
Any help would be appreciated?
Cheers
Trance -
Hello please help.
There is the only thing missing for this to be a good media center. I'm unable to wake the laptop from sleep/standby with either the MCE remote or by moving the mouse, nothing. This is something I could do with a PC 8 years ago.
Please anyone with any ideas. Any MB jumper I need to set, any BIOS I need to upgrade to, is this impossible with the d901c?
Managed to do everything with it to become the perfect MCE for the living room. The spoiler is this one since I cannot simply put the laptop in a drawr and forget, and what a spoiler. Hope this machine will not let me down once again, has been nothing but trouble for the price.
Please and thank you in advance for any help.
Cheers,

Interested in a future project maybe, has anyone tried using the 4850s from the Alienware M17 in a D901c at all? I am interested to know if anyone has gotten one or both of them to work in this chassis
Thanks -
guys, its been a while since i last came here.
i have sort of an issue.
last night my 9261 powered off outta the blue. it wouldnt come back on.
i tho it could be a heat issue (i know sometimes intel processors shut everything down to avoid melting).
there was a lot of dust in the heatsinks and fans. i cleaned it. everything nice.
today i booted the laptop and it runs smoothly, however the battery shows @ 0% and charging. it just WONT charge. i even touch the battery and is cold as a tasty beer.
what i wanna know is if the battery itself is dead.
if is that i think thats no biggie ill just ebay a new one and thats it.
but how would i know if its some other issue?
thx in advance. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Batteries usually last from 1.5 to 3 years, so it could be a dead battery or it could be your charging system has failed. Without a known good battery there is really no way to test to see which it is.
So, the best bet is to replace the battery. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
could very well be the motherboard crapped out
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
The issue is the battery won't charge. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
can you post a screenshot of the new hwmoniter as it shows how much life is left in the battery.
-
It has been a long time since I have visited the forums mainly because of work and I have not touched my lappy in awhile...until my desktop power supply decided to go out to lunch and not come back. So I have been using my desktop replacement laptop as a desktop replacement (appropriate eh?)
Since my lappy has been seeing alot of use recently, I have decided it is time to breath some new life into her (and my desktop too, along with a new power supply).
Sooo, long story short, I bought 2 OCZ Vertex 60gig SSDs and 2 copies of Windows 7. Installation was quick and painless (under 20 min). I did have to make some changes in the 9262 bios (AHCI mode).
I must say, having SSDs along with Win7 is incredible. Granted I do not much room on em. Win7 takes up 15gig alone. LOTRO another 15gig. That only leaves room for 3-4 more games, which is plenty for my needs.
If anyone out there is considering going to SSDs and has the money to spare, it is well worth it. (Windows 7 is SSD friendly too) -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
are you going to up your cpu to a q9550 and flash your gpus to a 9800m gt?
-
I have thought about upgrading my desktop to a i7 and putting the Q9650 from it into my lappy, just haven't gotten around to it. (my desktop is water cooled so changing out motherboard and cpu is a pain)
I have just noticed a problem with my 9262. I finally took the Win7 disk out the drive and now my laptop will not boot from the SSD. (boot order in bios is CD drive, then SSD) When I put the Win7 disk back in and restart, i will get the message asking if I want to boot from CD/DVD, press any key....I wait and then it boots from the SSD. No matter what I try, it will not boot straight from the SSD without the Win7 disk in the DVD drive. (i have tried changing the bios boot order so the SSD is first) Any ideas guys? -
here it is
whatchu think? -
Anybody knows if the battery capacity values may be changed with a bios editor?
I have a new battery that has charging problems and when/if it eventually charges it will be above the 'Designed Capacity' value. However, if I disable the AC power with the battery 'fully charged' the laptop will crash immediately. -
Question:
Just recently picked up a quadro fx 3700m off ebay, attempted to install (it seems to be brand new, but designed for a HP, it does fit)
it doesn't seem to recognize the screen at all, not even the BIOS screen is visible/ I know its starting up because i can hear the windows welcome sound in the background.
would updating the BIOS solve the issue? my system came with the q9650 quad core, and I thought they did a bios update for systems with that processor
any insight/same problem?
thanks -
try connecting an external monitor and see if you can see anything
-
3700M came around 14 August 2008. If your system BIOS is older than that date it may not have support for this card and you need to upgrade it.
-
hmmm my bios is exactly august 14th...
i don't really have time to update the bios and switch the card's again, but will do as soon as i get a second
thanks for the input! -
just to double check, my battery doesnt seem to be recognized.
the laptop is running perfectly with the power plug, and it says the battery is charging but is stuck @ 0%.
any ideas? -
btw i forgot.
with a 6.2v revision motherboard what can i add? [most potent cpu and gpus]. -
Hi guys, I recently moved to Windows 7 x64 from Vista x64 and I didn't have problems gaming on Vista. When I moved to 7 whenever I would play some games I would be interrupted by a driver crash... I'm using the latest drivers for the 8800M from the NVIDIA website. I was wondering if you could recommend the best drivers for an 8800M.. also, sometimes my screen would have flicking particles and from that point onwards I have to restart the system to remove them.
Thanks a lot in advanced. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I have seen the flickering problem on nvidia gpus before on multiple systems
I have heard that 185.20 are great drivers for the G92m cards. There is a Dox version as well if you prefer their optimized drivers. -
I somehow know my way around laptopvideo2go.. so I download the 185.20 drivers and find an INF for it. On the INF part, how do I know that it's meant for my system?
Sorry what's a Dox version?
Does the 185.20 have PhysX bundled or do I have to download it manually?
Thank you scook9.
Edit:
To expound my issue... the latest 195.62 driver OFTEN crashes on Windows 7 x64 (Ultimate) even in idle and of course, especially when I'm playing.
Whenever I play games at rare times it would show a black screen for a few seconds and come back with the normal game screen with flickering. Flickering still continues on to the Windows desktop until I finally restart my machine. The last game this happened on is Mass Effect 2.
I went back and installed the last provided drivers for Windows Vista x64 by Sager but unfortunately it doesn't have PhysX installed with it so I downloaded the latest PhysX pack from laptopvideo2go and the game started... performance is incredibly poor though as even the main menu slows down in the game.
=( -
After doing a search for the 185.20 for my PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_060C&SUBSYS_09021558 (8800M GTX) on laptopvideo2go:
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/drive...g=0&orderby=version&dir=desc&os=&os[]=win7x64
Unfortunately 185.20 is not an option for me. Should I still pursue this driver? Please advise, thank you very much! -
I uninstalled my current driver and anything NVIDIA including Physx then I installed the 195.81 driver from laptopvideo2go alongside the INF from the same link..
Two restarts later the system was loaded with the 195.81 driver and I tried starting Mass Effect 2 and I received an error notifying me that it couldn't find it a the latest PhysX software to run the game. I remember seeing PhysX download links from laptopvideo2go so I installed the latest driver (January 2010) and the game ran.
The game runs fine when I run it in windowed mode - 1280x720 but the game stutters and the whole system crashes down to a bluescreen in fullscreen 1920x1200....
Can someone help me? Many thanks. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
you can just download the physics by itself from nvidia
-
I'm on the 185.20 driver now.. during action the game will hang after a few seconds... is this not repairable? =(

talk to someone like Johnkss he had this machine and loved that driver

Hi folks,
My nearly two year old Sager 9262 w/9800M GT SLI has recently been having video card problems. The screen will go black and the system will freeze necessitating a power off and reboot. Things are fine in safe mode, so it is not likely the LCD screen itself.
It is not the drivers since I have successively backed down all the way to the drivers shipped with the system and the problem still happens.
It is not heat, because the fan and vents are clean, and I can, sometimes, run a 3D game for hours with no problem and other times the screen will black and the system freeze just minutes after first power on of the day.
I have recently noticed that if I turn off Aero (Windows translucency and such) the system is much more stable, but the problem persists, and I can see some artifacting.
I have come to the conclusion that the card will likely have to be repaired or replaced, but the problem is this. I am out of warranty. Of course Sager says the card would have to go back to the "manufacturer" for refurbishing, and Nvidia policy says the manufacturer is Sager (though it is not on the list of vendors). I am not sure if Clevo would actually do something like that. (Any info?)
If the video card can't be repaired, fine, I'll buy a new one, but therein lies another problem. I can't seem to be able to find anyone selling the 9800M GT w/512M. My question to you fine folks are two fold ...
1. Are there any other cards that can actually work in the 9262?
2. Does anyone know of a source for the 9800M GT (or GTX or some other card?
I would be very grateful for any help. I'd hate to see the system become a $2000+ doorstop after only 2 years.
Thanks a lot.
Robert
P.S. I am in Korea at the moment, but sources in the USA are fine too. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
The nVIDIA Quadro FX 3700M card will work, but you would have to get that from Sager or Clevo as well.
Clevo will refurbish your card, but it will probably take 2-3 months to get your laptop back.
It will be difficult to find a Clevo/Sager nVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT(X) by itself since it has been discontinued for so long, but you may be able to find a used NP9262 by Googling for it. -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
There is also the possiblity that 3870s or 4850s from an Alienware M17 would work in the np9262, this hasn't been tested as far as i know though
check ebay and rjtech for the video cards -
Hi guys,
Thanks for the info. I checked at rjtech and the GTX 1GB is $950. I guess they know they have you by the short-n-curlies.
Not much luck on ebay, either. But I did see one there that said it was for the D900F. It is listed as a "MXM 2.1 TYPE III". Just to help me with my search, what type and MXM is the card in the D901c?
Sager did say that if I send in my computer they can check and refurbish (meaning they can swap the card for an unsold one setting on the shelf) the card for $320 including shipping. Sounds like a bargain, but as you say, 2 months is a long time and it would likely be longer considering I am now in Korea and the shipping would be much higher also, and there is always the concern about the international mail folks tossing the box around. (International packages rarely make it through unscathed.)
I'll keep looking, and I'll also ask/beg Sager if I can just send in the video card and have them sell me another one. (Wish me luck.)
Thanks again for the help and any more you can offer.
Sincerely,
Robert -

Yes, that card is for the D900F. It is of the MXM 3.0 generation in size B. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5187657&postcount=5. The reason I did not include "type HE" with in the listing is because both HE and non-HE cards are compatible with both HE and non HE slots. Only MXM 2.1 type III and type IV cards can come with the HE tab. Technically, all of the cards released for Clevo notebooks as of the 8800M GTX are type HE in type III size. And because the HE tab doesn't pose any compatibility issues whatsoever, we just call it type III for clarity. Type IV cards were a bust. The sheer size of the card was simply too impractical for notebooks when everything can be put onto a smaller type III board. The last card ever made in that size was the 7950M GTX.
Over two months of downtime is not worth the money saved. You're better off purchasing a new notebook or finding a cheap card if it comes to that. -

Do you have like a library/index of all your posts?
I haven't seen anyone else here link there own posts like you lol -
Hey guys. I was just wondering if anyone can tell me whether D901c can be upgraded to core i7 9**
has anyone done this before?
My spec:
N9262
4gb, q6700, 8800mGTX 512MB
I am also thinking abt upgrading to 280M 1gb.
http://www.mxm-upgrade.com/
according to this website, it will work on D901c and d900c -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
No you would need a whole new machine. Different mobo mem gpu cpu cooling.....
-
any chance to upgrade the mb?? -
cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
would still have to change everything else as well
ddr2 to ddr3
mxm 2 to mxm 3
different cooling pieces
and obviously different cpus -

Hi all just hoping to get a little advice. My 9260 has had some issues keeping time when shut down which usually means the CMOS battery is going (correct me if I'm wrong). There are also times when I boot it up that it won't start and I have to do a hard shutdown and reboot before it'll work.
That said, how exactly do I get to the heart of this monster? Do I have to take every single piece out of this thing to get to the mobo because I did some exploring yesterday and it's looking like I will... -
Service manual in my sig - from memory you have to do some serious disassembly to get to the cmos battery...
