    Hi guys,

    First off let me say that when it comes to laptop maintenance i'm a rank amateur, which is why i'm here for advise and opionions. Basically its been a year since i bought my Clevo and i haven't cleaned it out once. Now with my old gaming laptop i made a habit of cleaning it pout every few months since it ran so hot but this thing is still fairly new and still runs as cool as a breeze. Basically my questions are as follows;

Even though my P150SMA doesnt have any problems should i clean it ?
How thoroughly should I clean ? Just a bit of compressed air in the vents or full on thermal paste replacement and microfibre wipedown ? Anything else im overlooking ?
Should I do it myself or get a professional ? Like i said i'm an amateur and I haven't opened the PM150 up yet and i can't find a youtube for doing so. I'll basically be "exploring" with a very expensive piece of kit and my comprehensive insurance has now expired. Every other laptop of mine that i had to open and clean i had always seen how to do it first so its making me nervous.

    Thank you for any help.

Yeah, doing some regular cleaning is worth it. Would rather check it periodically just to try to prevent dust build up and cause any stress on the system from heat, or anything like that. Maybe 6 months to a year is good to just check it over, or if you notice the system starts running hotter.

You could do it yourself if you are comfortable with taking off the back panel, blowing out the dust, and maybe re-applying thermal compound (if you have noticed your CPU/GPU temps have gone up maybe). There are videos on youtube, or pictures and guides here throughout the forum. Plus I'm sure there is someone that is nice that might post a picture or give advice if you need it here. But if you aren't okay with doing it, you could always find someone to give it a cleaning I'm sure.

Is anybody having battery issues on this laptop? I thought I was just overusing the battery or something. I bought a replacement and although it "charges" if it gets unplugged it dies as if there was no battery there. It did work for the first couple of days however, I managed to get almost 4 hours out of it. I did calibrate it. It might be worth noting this started after a windows 10 upgrade.

What are you doing when you unplug the machine? Where did you get the replacement?

Just idle on the desktop, no extra programs running at the time. I bought the replacement from the Sager website.

Hello again, I am back with a new issue. Recently I upgraded to windows 10 and have been experiencing a new situation where my PC will shut down randomly when I am using it for full screen/windowed border-less gaming. I have tried reinstalling windows on my computer and it seemed to fix the issue for only a few days. Upon checking the event log, these warnings seem to occur immediately before the unexpected shut down. I am not sure how to go about updating my firmware (if that is even the solution), and I have had some difficulty accessing the bios to check power settings. I recently cleaned my notebook and I am pretty sure that is not an issue. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Have you found a way to make this happen? I have an NP8268 with a 4K 60hz tv and just ran into the problem.

An active DP to HDMI 2.0 should help.

Hello, looks like this thread hasn't seen any action in a while. I bought my p150sma in mid-2014, its still going strong and have no plans to buy a new one anytime soon.

I do have one nagging issue. It seems my RAM slot 3 under the keyboard doesn't work. Slot 1 and 2 works, so does slot 4 but not slot 3. I've tried switching out RAM modules with known good sticks, RAM pairs are matched, I've remove bios battery, reset bios to default, carefully cleaned the slot connectors with compressed air, tried adding a paper shim to give slight pressure in case the pads/pins weren't seated properly. Nothing seems to work.

Has anyone ran into this or a similar issue?

Take a picture of the connector, any obvious signs of damage.

No, no obvious signs of damage. I always disconnect power and battery before servicing anything. I also make sure RAM is full inserted. Just tried again with a Samsung 8g stick that I took from slot one and screen wouldn't turn on, the computer would just reset it self after a few minutes and do the same. Put the stick back in slot one and viola, it worked. I can live without it, its just strange. Probably some SMD component fried. 20170904_160021.jpg

Pin 11 to the right of the middle break looks suspect to me.

Yeah, I noticed that after posting as well! Looks like something is lodged in the pin keeping it depressed. Will carefully remove it with a dental pic or something similar. Cant try now but Ill let you know of any sucess. Thanks Meaker, you're a great resource on these forums!

Meaker, you the man!!!! :D That spec of crap was my problem. I had to make and sharpen my own curved pick out of piano wire to remove the offending debris and then lift the spring contact back up, very tedious to do when using my phone as a magnifying glass but it worked. Popped in an 8G stick of "green" Samsung RAM, fired it up and voila! Speccy is showing 32G! Now its time to play with RAM timings to see how far I can overclock.

    Thanks again!

    Yes, I saw his thread.
Maybe only P170SM-A can support Pascal?

Yes, at least it's working in my P150EM, maybe the P150SM-A bios can't support it...
I'm currently using Prema mod in both notebooks.

Yes, I modded the inf for the EM and made a version for SM-A. :)

But with the SM-A I can't boot windows, the card is recognized in bios (I can see the vbios version) but as soon as I try to boot Windows it BSOD (ACPI_BIOS_ERROR).
I tried to reinstall Windows but I have the BSOD even during Windows 10 Setup.

Just tested 2 different vbios and Windows 7, still Bsod as soon as I try to boot the setup disk or the already installed OS.

Win7 bsod: "0x000000A5 the ACPI BIOS in the system is not fully compliant with the ACPI specification"

I was also using Prema mod bios on my p170sm-a, you can also trying flashing that, MB should support that.

did you try re-setting system BIOS? and EC by fully draining power from the board? did you try another VGA card?

also I did not try installing fresh WIndows copy on the machine, used the one I already had.

Thank you for your help. :)

I have already flashed the latest Prema mod for my P150SM-A, I didn't try with stock bios tough.
I tried both win7 and win10 in legacy and Uefi mode, the first time with the currently installed win10 (legacy mode).

For the heatsink I placed a 1mm shim, tried the same method in my P150EM without problems.
I've also reset CMOS by removing AC power and both batteries without success, tried most of the settings in bios too.

The card seems to power on correctly, also the GPU fan starts spinning after some time.

The only OS that doesn't BSOD is Windows XP, really strange... o_O

I want to mention that I have GTX 1060N in my Clevo P150EM however its a MSI card with a Clevo vBIOS I believe, definitely not a MSI vBIOS.
It booted fine into my Windows and I have Windows 8.1 Pro installed in UEFI with GPT partitions on all the SSD's and the HDD no ancient garbage MBR.

Where did you acquire your 1060 Zix? And if you know, what vBIOS do you have on it? I know people on the nVidia forums only complain all day but they SPECIALLY complain about 1060N and Windows 10, clearly nVidia and their shenanigans are at work once again! Did you try safe boot?

I had to modify the drivers to even get them to install (That is nVidia for ya) and then the card worked without issues and it still works, very rarely the drivers may corrupt themselves but if you leave them alone it works fine.
P150SM uses different BIOS from EM laptops sadly.

I bought it from China, stock vbios was 86.06.19.00.08, working without problems in my P150EM (with power limit of course). :)
I also tried the following versions: 86.06.44.00.08, 86.06.1F.00.05 (currently installed, small performance gain).

When I install the card in a P150SM-A, only bios or WinXP work, if I try to install Win7 or Win10 I get a BSOD as soon as I boot from the CD.
I think the P150SM-A bios or the motherboard have some limitations that prevent the system from working correctly.

Windows 7 and 10 will actually try and use the GPU, windows XP will just be software rendering.

    Question again my friends!

I spilled water on my keyboard T_T. I did my best to prevent damage and clean the spill immediately, however I think my keyboard is fried. When I press Space bar I get a space and a [. When I press delete I get a Deleted space and a 6. This is true for many keys. Do you all have any suggestions for fixing this problem? If replacement is necessary where can I find a compatible keyboard? I havent been able to find anyone explaining how to do this. Thank you all for your help!

Your original reseller or ebay, the keyboard itself is replaceable as its own part.

Hey guys, my P150SM-A is about 3 years old and has been working great previously. Now when I turn it on, it seems to take a randomly long time (up to 2 mins!) to get to the BIOS splash screen. The HDD light flashes every 2-3 seconds during this.

I've tried disconnecting all USB devices, network etc, and that makes no difference. Any ideas?
