So last night me and D2 were trying to fire some shots into the CEO's Facebook page regarding the newfound discovery that Razer has with their Kepler as well as Maxwell gen Blade 14s.
His FB page also used for promotions and other stuff: https://www.facebook.com/minliangtan/?fref=ts
I specifically pointed out to this video posted by Louis Rossmann (well known PCB repair person on the internet)
Link below to those who want to watch
TL;DW the video talks about two things. And I specifically asked the CEO's response to them.
1. The Kepler generation Blade 14 (I believe it's a 870M GPU) - has a defect where the vBIOS chip is placed on the back of the GPU area, and that chip can only survive 75c before frying out. Due to the thin design and the chip not being cooled it is very easy for that chip to die and make the unit inoperable.
2. Newer Blades with Maxwell + Haswell / Skylake has issue where a VRM / mosfet bank would give up since the components used are low quality and cannot sustain high temperatures. These would eventually give up and need to be replaced by an astronomical cost of $700 out of warranty from Razer.
I also added a third/fourth query about the Razer Blade Pro (2016 / GTX1080).
1. Why is the GTX1080 in the RBP 2016 capped at such a low TDP? This contradicts your (the CEO's) claim of having full desktop performance in a laptop form factory. As a reference a GTX1080 Founders Edition will do 180-200w of power consumption.
2. @D2 Ultima added onto my post that the RBP 2016 has an overheating issue on the 2nd NVME drive when running in RAID mode. Causing BSOD.
The entirety of the post above, on the CEO's Facebook page, was added with me tagging him (using @) and posting the video to accompany the comment.
This was done on a 15-minute old post, so he didn't reply. Alright we'll wait.
Less than 24 hours after, the CEO made a very recent post that I was lucky enough to catch. I posted the same exact info as the 1st comment, so there's no way that he wouldn't see that.
Instead of providing a response, he banned me from following and commenting on the FB page. Clearly showing the sign that they're afraid of the truth coming out. He also went back and manually deleted D2 Ultima's comment alongside all of mine. I even asked D2 to check and he searched the whole post for my name and could not find anything from me or himself in all 266 comments on the original post I commented on.
Also, do point out that this is the same CEO who ridiculed a user of this very forum for attempting to repaste to fix bad temperatures on an older Blade model, claiming they used special paste that's better than all of the competition, when all it was is that standard paste doesn't work well on the "solution" they use (bare heatpipes touching dies). So not only are they dirty enough to knowingly sell broken-by-design products at exorbitant prices, but they're also the kind who attack users for fun if they don't play exactly by their book (also breaking warranty of the whole notebook for the user who repasted... just because he repasted).
Terrible heatsink design made worse with pitiful excuse.
Thread for reference: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/repaste-those-razer-blade-2015s-at-your-own-risk.771707/
So there you have it, use this information to decide whether or not you want to do business with a company which clearly makes defective overpriced products, that the manufacturers and the CEO themselves are aware of but hides under the brand facade, and still attempt to hide information about defects to this day, has poor presale and aftersale support, nonexistent warranty, and various anti-consumer doings.
I personally wont, but each to their own. (I will clearly say that you're *** to still buy a Razer after this though).

Dirty....they are to skeerrrd to man up?
What does that say about the integrity of the company? Is it as bad as their vBIOS chip?
This makes AW/Dell look really good in comparison. At least they are proactively doing something about their issues.SOTN_Alucard, ThePerfectStorm, Eason and 3 others like this. -
I'd rather have a macbook compared to a razer.

They have three directives:
1 - Make machines look and feel good in the hand (all their products).
2 - Save as much money as possible. I'm talking double-sided clips instead of screws in their mice, soldering cables to the boards where last gen had them in a socket, etc. Their RAM is now soldered on all their notebooks, and is baseline 2133MHz 15-15-15-35 garbage RAM.
3 - Market and get everybody to act as if they have the best things ever. Their fanbase is called the "Razer cult" for a VERY good reason.
When nobody on the net gives them flak for their crap and even places like Notebookcheck refuse to run/list temperature stress test results on their reviews for them (when they often do it for even ultrabooks)? The whole world goes on thinking they're amazing and worth the $$ when it's so far the opposite that it's actually somewhat laughable.
Did I mention their 14" model has a 40ms input lag on the panel? "Gaming notebook". I *REALLY* want to get my hands on one of those notebooks to review. It's going to be "GOOD".ThePerfectStorm, triturbo, iunlock and 3 others like this. -

But geez. That's pretty ridiculous. Razer has so much potential, but they just waste all of it. Kinda like Gohan if he was evil.
Mobius post it on /r/razer too. dark_skeleton would get a kick out of it.
Also I'm double posting because editing isn't working again yay. -

I wouldn't say "hardware design without thought" and the usage of cheap components and/or thermal compount is something that can be linked to any specific company, it is more an issue of the whole consumer electronics industry. If you follow up the history of the MBP, Apple took several generations of hardware designs to reach a point where their notebooks did not have at least one major design flaw, that would result in guaranteed hardware failure over time. Razer is just at the beginning of that process.
In spite of that, the reaction of the CEO is not very consumer friendly, but sadly it is the norm. Never admit, never confirm or agree with anything. A more diplomatic response would have been "we are investigating"... -

It's one thing for a company to have a bad design but a moddable/fixable solution. A decent theory, but bad practice. Not saying people aren't at fault for letting it sell in that state, but there is some modicum of hope. Bending the AW heatsinks and redoing thermal pads... redoing thermal pads and maybe using a shim on Clevo... nothing required for MSI... removing plastic strips and such to give fans proper access to air on ASUS. Things can often be done. Razer is a different story, and it's purely by design. Their motif is that they've got the thinnest notebook for its power class (except that its thinness usually knocks it one power class down due to thermals etc).
Give credit where it's due and take it away where it isn't. I said I hated Razer in a previous post here, and while this is true, I'm going to be completely fair to them. In this case, fairness is making certain people understand that they literally sit there and devise ways to screw over consumers. Then they sit there and ban anyone who is a naysayer, and it's now clear that there's some under the table dealings with people who review from larger websites. They could always fix themselves, produce something worth a buy, and I could recommend them. But... they aren't going to when people keep making excuses for them and defending them to the death. -
I submitted a PR enquiry asking for comment on the issues outlined. Hopefully they'll respond in the 5 day window they stated.

"Razer's design is a complete knock off of Apple (Macbook Pro). Almost 1:1. Then Razer has the nerves to pull Apple prices ROFL. Ummm no. Epic Fail as it has proven to be. There is no originality and we don't have to like Apple, but the fact of the matter is that Razer is just a copy cat trying to be Apple with both pricing and design. (Clear as day!) - Only for all of this to back fire on Razer, which tickles the pickle of their cult and company junkies who are now butt hurt due to a reality check that they can not escape. - AND WHO THE HECK PUTS A FREAKIN' 6700HQ IN A $4000 MACHINE?! COME ON....Absolutely pathetic. - With all this combined, along with their little attempt for damage control by deleting posts off of FB and such, what does that say about the integrity of the company? Is it as bad as their vBIOS chip? Ouch...truth hurts."
A lot of the same points and I'm glad to see others also acknowledging the fact that Razer is NOT original and just a direct rip of Apple.
Great points all around. -
"We're fine with feedback etc but as long as it's not antagonistic and abusive" then why did he banned the guy who asked a question about the issue of their products?

Yeah - that sentence explains the thought process on a lot of people. -
@ minliangtan is acting like an average joe, unprofessional, wonder how he become CEO in the first place. Razer at this point is far beyond help. smh

Apple also is very hesitant in admitting mistakes, mbp with defective gpu only get "advanced repair program" after 1-2 year of customer complain and threats of lawsuit -

I don't get the fuss, Razer has put out time and time again that their main market is focused towards the "Pc-Illiterate folk" through their wordings. If they're to stupid or illiterate to know they're buying crap, then we misjudged their intelligence. I think its a genius concept if you think about it. People have money to burn so they create some crappy product w/ the lowest bidding mfc company, then broadcast like Monster does ( aka beatsforshetheadphones) and make people think its an iconic image and poof, money is thrown at your face. They're just creating a vacuum for money is all. People that invest their time in learning a bit will often stay away, they're intelligent and pick up fast, if not there are tons of reviews to help the masses stay aware as well as Razer responses stating " this is the first we've heard " x 50 to the same issue over the years. They assume the general population doesn't believe in history so confidence is there.
I've quoted this time and time again "The problem with ignorance is that it picks up confidence over time"
Its safe to assume anyone with a razer product ( with the exception to 1-2 of them ) can be listed as one of the following or all the above
1) Technically illiterate, either bought for e-peen or didn't know any better
2) Is slightly aware but is going to show you that it works and has a few years supply of thermal paddings and paste, and doesn't want to hear it from anyone because they know, but they're not about to admit that the 3-4k they dropped on their heating pad was a bad choice ( similar to mac owners)
3) They trust anything on the internet.
Ouroborous was the first time I saw a product by razer, friends got them, and our work got a bunch cuz why not. You push in on the side for one of the buttons, most of them cracked after a couple weeks of use, and the casing was so flimsy it wobbled, yet at 150$ retail it was a wonder why it was created with
glued origami paper and aluminum foil.
As for the bans its simple, anytime there is negative gain in any area it will be squashed, especially the more sound and apparent it makes towards other crowds. If it gets them to think in a non razer mindset its a threat, and they will remove it and let the fans protect them.
*edit*
Forgot the most important part.
Razer knows their products are crap, they went into the business knowing this, and they will forever know this. They don't need/want people reminding them what they already know, all they care about is that you're illiterate enough to buy their product and praise them or keep coming back to purchase replacements cuz of limited warranties and non technical staff dictating that its a user issue and not a hardware issue.
Its like smoking, people know its bad, but do it anyways thinking " it won't happen to me "
same methodology in this case its just a heating issue, flimsy hardware, 0 support, and a corrupt dream.Last edited: Feb 13, 2017Beemo, Eason and don_svetlio like this. -
I agree with @Mobius 1 original post - very shady of the CEO to delete his comments and not address his questions. But, there are shady CEOs everywhere, yet people still wear Nike's and eat at Chik Fil A.
And no doubt lots of Razer owners aren't tech savvy and bought for looks - but I dont think there is anything wrong with that - their choice. But some of us who are tech literate got one because we wanted one and because it fit a need (and yes, liked the form factor as well). Yes, I know it might crap out at some point prematurely - that's why I got an extended warranty from Microsoft, so that I can swap it out easily.
