My system shipped, it's departing Hong Kong. Paid for express shipping but no ETA yet in my Fed Ex app.

 

Question: it says in the support section on razer’s website that the laptop uses the DGPU when connected to an external monitor. Does this mean it will be running hot and loud(er) when simply browsing the web or doing desktop tasks (when on an external monitor as opposed to the laptop screen)?. Thanks

 

Not necessarily. It just means the DGPU will be in use. The CPU might run a bit warmer, but it’s not gonna suddenly start acting like it would when playing games. The DGPU will run at a low frequency not giving off much heat.




Found this today. I don’t understand what he’s saying so I can’t really tell if his views are positive. But he does take the heat sink off. And it does look like a repaste might go a long way.

Though it’s gpu run hot, not my preferred temperature and gpu pull out max apparently 90 watt same as the temperature 90ish max LoL. Performance wise firestrike it’s Blade pro/ advanced 15 3080 maxq class.

Maybe repasting or even LM will help.

 

Mine should be here Monday. So we’ll know soon enough. All I have is Mx4 on hand. So that will be what I test it with if it needs it.

 

Artic is nice but I think you’ll need LM, g14 and even g15 use it on CPU for a reason, and in this thin light category they even hits 90ish degrees unless you disable turbo boost apparently.

That’s actually pretty impressive compared to my full fat i7-9750H and RTX 2070MQ laptop, almost a 20% difference.

Even though the GPU temps are high at least it doesnt thermally throttle, Maybe even a decent laptop cooler would shave a couple more degrees of temps.
All I know is this is extremely impressive for a 14” laptop.

 

@IKAS V indeed. Jarrod just did a review on the G14 with gaming today. That’s with a 60w-80w 3060. The Blade 14 with 80w-100w across the board should perform better. Asus is gonna have to step it up if the Blade 14 is better across the board. So maybe they’ll make some noteworthy fixes for next year.

Mine got upgraded to be delivered today. But unless it’s here in the next hour I’ll have to wait till I get off work tomorrow morning to test it.

 

Ok so just enough time to run firestrike and timespy for you all. I just set the cpu to boost and the gpu to high in synapse and used better performance in the power profile. Cpu peaked at around 81C in firestrike and 96C in Timespy. I’ll be loading some games when I get home to see how hot it gets during games.

oh and yes it is completely covered in finger prints already.

But it’s the most intense game I can think of.

 

So far very happy with it (RTX 3060). I mainly play DOTA 2 and it actually outperforms my 10th gen Blade 15 (RTX 3080 model) which was surprising, guess it’s the CPU driving that performance. It gets hot but not that loud which is great. Haven’t tested things like battery life. Might be a laptop I don’t end up returning after a week, finally!

 

One thing just I need to know is how loud the fans get when gaming and how bright is the screen ?
Is it a fingerprint magnet ?

Mine should arrive Monday by noon per FedEx app, I ordered this past Wednesday, that’s some quick shipping. Cleared through Alaska last night. Will post some benches when I get it up and running. It is the FHD / 3060 model.

Does the Razer 15 RTX 3070 advanced have a similar scores in 3DMark, not too familiar with it’s performance numbers?

Not sure about 11gen one, poor 15 poeple almost forgot about its existence, but to 10 gen early 2021 it’s better both cpu and gpu, it’s also better than zephyrus g15 3070 on Same post.

Some Cyberpunk gaming test I found.

CPU apparently locked to 35 watt, isn’t HX is unlocked and also 45 watt, another Razer conservative power limitation? And the gpu as far I saw capping on 80 watt as well, might be wrong though. In this case why they don’t use HS version for the cpu, and lower the price tag, and well gpu dynamic boost can only happen if cpu load less demanding, which on this game is maybe rarely.

 

That’s impressive getting 60FPS at full screen resolution, this game is unoptimized and usually you get under 60FPS on most laptops

Ugh. I watched another video review of the Blade w/ 3070 and the CPU also looked to be capped at 35 watts. That’s a low move by Razer if that’s how they did it. We’ll soon all find out once these start arriving.

 

GPU utilization below 90%, the gpu should performs better if above 90, on my blade 1070 it’s 99% and on 3070 Egpu I think on this game (before this week patch, not checked yet) it’s above 90 in mid 90 when I’m not wrong, sounds bottleneck happens.

Maybe it’s on balance mode or maybe it’s also their conservative power limitation, that’s why cinebench etc cpu performance on blade laptops are meh compared to other. But Min on keynote said they don’t use h/Hs version but HX, and gpu they don’t use 60 watt but 100 watt. So even maybe balance mode throttle the performance down, they should also give costum mode that proof that statement, otherwise it’ll be Jarrod’s breakfast after cheap Asus ram that impact performance and Alienware performance corruption. issue.

It shows gpu usage 90 plus percentage on 1440p and below on 1080p, so to pull out the gpu performance higher resolution maybe better. CPU also not 35 watt anymore up to 40 watt, not sure what synapse profile it’s though. But cpu temperature isn’t my preferred, maybe better capping it to 35 watt (if balance mode does that) and get lower cpu temperature, I think on current Asus g14 there’s also such setting on their armory software, before on 2020 model a lot users disabling turbo boost for better cpu temperature I think.

 

Maybe there is some setting that went ignored, we can hope! At least Asus gives us the option to max out or limit CPU, on the 2021 version, correct.

 

Isn’t that three things? The fans aren’t that loud. Like they are quiet enough that I’m expecting them to get louder since most laptops this thin are like little jet engines. They have definitely worked on making this quieter than previous models. Max fan in manual model does have a bit of a high pitch too it though. So I’d suggest headphones. But during normal use it never got over a mild hum.

Screen seems like it’s brighter than 300 nits? I don’t have the tools to measure it. It’s not 400 nits like on the blade pro 17. Though @Darkhan could do a side by side of that test just to be sure.

It is but it seems like it wipes off easier than I remember for a black laptop. I definitely leave figure prints everytime I touch it.

 

My 3080 Arrives Thursday and can take a pic side by side with the 17pro 4k 120hz max brightness.

Confused now, 3070 or 3080, €2100vs €2700, 3080 can sit above high end gaming PC on Firestrike LoL.

 

Coming from a pure gaming perspective I personally feel the extra 10% boost the RTX 3080 provides is not worth an extra 600.
Now I’m just going from similar specced laptops that have the samish TDP and for most games show not a huge difference.

Sometimes those firestrike scores are the worst thing to judge how well a machine will run. People bios hack, shunt mod, water cool, or do anything they can to sky rocket their score. So I’m sure that is what’s happening there. But of course you’d not be able to use those mods in games with the same settings you got those scores with. My X170 would crash almost instantly if I tried to game with same setting I used to get my firestrike scores.

That being said I do still plan to show some thermal and performance info on the 3070 in my model once I get some time. I promise.

10% is nice, usually for system got 5 % and pheriperals 15%. But instead you have to face with wonderful Razer CS if there’s something goes wrong. Amazon de has 3070 variant 300 off, Saturn big retailer has 3080 and 3070 both 300 off. Okay I’m confused now, fancy 3DMark or performance for the bucks. Sounds most Poeple goes to 3070 for that but I usually opted best performance for the fancy chart lmao.
Can’t decide so rip my wallet. I’ll sell my souls to Devil if I could lmao, and no I won’t sell my butt.

 

I wish I waited a day to pick mine up from Amazon. But hopefully this doesn’t have any issues pop up. Normally you gotta wait a few weeks before Amazon has new Razer products. So I really didn’t think they were gonna have them until later. By the way this thing is supposed to have free sync? Gonna have to look into that as I’m one of the few that seems to still care about that kinda of thing and g-sync.

 

I think I heard on the keynote it has amd freesync premium both FHD and qhd. Yes I think only you LoL, blade 15 144Hz no g sync I feel same smooth using predator xb1 native g sync 165Hz, that’s why I sold that external monitor. Or maybe that’s only me though.

Received the new Blade 14 with RTX 3060. Screen is perfect, uniform, and no pixel defects. Updated nVidia drivers and ran Time Spy. The result is very disappointing. I went into Synapse and ran the CPU at "boost" setting and GPU at "high" setting. Didn't do any other adjustments. The great news is the fan noise is FAR quieter than my G14. I left it on auto fan mode, will play around later with fan settings.

Build quality is excellent compared to the G14. Will give it some time / tinkering, but disappointed with the initial result.

Well frequency apparently a bit better on blade 14. Did you optimized the system already and don’t have anything suspicious running background. It effects also 3dmark scores. Yes current costum mode (advanced, pro 2020~) apparently let the fans automatically running, which’s weird from blade 15 2018, book 13 and stealth 2019 viewing point.

 

I didn't have any other program running other than synapse. I'll try to further tinker, still doing work at the same time so I haven't had solid time to really dive into the laptop settings. Hopefully I can get more performance out of it / will keep trying.

 

Yeah it’s just born system maybe quite need sometimes to optimize it. G14 is already exists quite a while, they know what they do. I remember back then 2080maxq on blade 15 was after sometimes could hitting firstly 21K gpu before on first wave units mostly 20ish K.

 

I noticed you CPU is running at 35w and mine was running at 45w. So that explains why your CPU score is lower than mine. Can’t speak for the 3060 score since mine is a 3070 model. Might just be what the 3060 runs at. Seems like it ran very cool at 60C though.

 

Drink another coffee if not maybe a tequila is better You click on his g14 score, it’s 5900HS 35 watt variant.

Yeah according this guy with colorful tattoos the blade 14 out the box prefer battery power than performance.

Edit: don’t see his thermal performance on streaming only shows the gpu not cpu, gpu on blade laptops always great but not the CPU.

 

Making some progress!

I set the fans to max and set Synapse to balanced mode, this thing is SO much quieter than the G14. I fired up Afterburner and did a +200/+100 OC on the GPU/MEM. Temps are very good. There is more headroom too I think.
