You can use Razer Synapse to change the F1 F2 F3 keys to volume up/down/mute. But if you do that you lose the ability to use the F1 F2 F3 keys until you change them back.

so I'm getting ready to purchase my razer blade but there's one thing that concerns me, the amount of people that are having dead pixels problems, earlier on in this thread one person said he went through 3 razer blades. is this a issue a lot of people are having or is it just a few, I guess my best bet would be to order through Amazon since they have a great replacement policy.

Hey guys, I am debating on either getting the Razer Blade 2015 or getting a GS60 Ghost Pro from MSI. While the GS60 has some things I prefer over the Razer Blade, I still can't get over how stunning the Razer looks! I will be needing it by the summer for when I start my graduate program and I want a powerhouse I can take with me to campus, to travel with, and when I am on break at my parent's place and of the two, I still think Razer might have cracked it for me.

Too bad they don't offer the 16GB option with the 1080p, that would of been my top choice if they did. However, the only thing that is niggling about the Razer Blade for me (especially on the 2015 model) is how easy is it to upgrade the M.2 SSD and also if there is a secret 2nd slot for another M.2? I know the GS60 has two M.2 slots but getting to them for an upgrade on the GS60 I have heard is a pain in the butt.

I do, I let it do it's thing then switch the resolution to 1600x900 using the little wrench icon. Haven't felt the need to change anything from that.

Hey, anyone know if there's a visible difference between using 1080 and 1600x900? Is one better than the other, or have any recommendations. I just feel like maybe having a perfect half scale would look better?

both look good on a 14 inch screen, it all depends on the game and if i want framerate or visuals. Crysis 3 i run in 900p while dragon age inquisition in 2048x1152, and GRID autosport at 3200x1800, looks amazing

Hey guys, purchased a 2015 razer blade 14 QHD from the online microsoft store on friday. I've been following you guys on this forum for the past while to check on quality, etc. Decided to make the jump, hopefully i get a good one. Are there any programs you guys recommend I should download first to test it out for problems?

Also, it seems that my purchase is still in progress, does the credit card department get the weekend off?

First thing, set windows to high performance, plug it in, and run 3dmark fire strike standard to see if everything is performing correctly.

I think I'll finally start my benchmarking before the 30 day return policy ends, haha. Should have done this sooner, but was enjoying using it too much.

Last night before bed, I shut down the computer and it never shut off, keyboard un-lit but fans were going full blast. Tried to turn it back on to fix it, but nothing - just a black screen, fans blaring and keyboard light now on. It was so weird, and I'm hoping the battery will run out and I'll be able to turn it back on. Found it weird because just two hours earlier, the computer shut down by itself for the first time while playing Cities: Skylines (I assume overheating??).

Just received mine. Does anyone know of any color calibrating tools I can use to make this screen better? The colors are eh compared to my Sony Vaio SVZ.

I'm not familiar with calibrating, but how is the rest of the screen? contrast, dead/stuck pixels, backlight bleed?

I don't seem to have any of those issues, but the colors are just kinda washed out compared to my Vaio and a little yellowish. For example, I'm looking at this scan of a Pokemon card:
    http://pokebeach.com/media/Kyogre-Primal-Clash-53.jpg

You see how the blue background behind the card text has a couple of lighter whitish areas? (Such as behind "This attack," "Cyclone," and to the right of "Resistance.") On my Razer, those white areas have a yellow tinge, whereas on my Vaio, they're much more white and look like the card's colors in real life. If I'm looking at a white web page such as here, the white is also much more yellow than it should be. If I can't fix this, I don't know if I'll be able to keep this laptop. Does anyone know if all their QHD screens are like that?

EDIT: I made it a little better by using the Intel HD Graphics app. -5 Brightness on all colors, +30 saturation. Still not completely sold though...

Ugh, I'm thinking of returning it. The QHD screen just isn't that great and none of the programs I use are scaling correctly. I lowered the resolution to 1920x1080 but of course it's not as sharp as it would be if it were the native resolution.

The regular HD screen is supposed to be better, right? Do most people who buy it with that do it through Razer's online store? Only thing I'm concerned about with purchasing through them is their extended warranty. Sounds like it's only for another year and they don't mention anywhere about it covering water damage or things like that.

I wish they would have kept the 16GB RAM on the FHD screen option. So annoying that they didn't. They probably figured that most people would go the FHD route if they did.

I got it from Razerzone.com. How are you trying to scale? I had a Dell ultrabook that I used scaling on and never had an issue with it. What apps are giving issues?

Pretty much every application has an issue. It doesn't seem like app developers have taken scaling seriously yet.

The laptop is very quiet even with Photoshop open and working. But it gets hot /fast/. I only have stock things installed now + Firefox/Photoshop and just browsing the net makes it get pretty hot. Combined with the less-than-desirable screen quality, I'm going to return it. And I'm wondering if I should just return it all together (as in, not getting the HD screen) and wait to see what they do next year. Windows 8.1 and programs don't seem to be quiet there yet, and Razer's QHD screen just isn't that great for someone who does photo editing and video editing and whatnot. But if you're a gamer I'm guessing it might not matter as much. Everything else is nice about it though. The design, keyboard, trackpack, thinness - it's all pretty good. But it's hard for me to overlook the heat/screen/problematic scaling that's inherit to a resolution this high.

Not sure about Adobe, but Office definitely scales properly. So does most messengers. I use Chrome and have had no issues with heat, and Chrome scales just fine.

I wonder if Photoshop or Firefox are activating the Nvidia GPU for some reason.

I think Windows 8.1 does some upgrading/indexing in the background when you first got the machine so you might see the cpu usage spike up from time to time at the beginning, which could explain the heating issue.

About the screen, I think the viewing angle is sub-par for a machine this expensive, so if you are planning to do a lot of photo editing and video editing, you might want to consider the FHD version. Having said that, I think you should get some calibration tool to calibrate the screen first if you planning to do photo editing on any machine.

Also, if you head to the Razer forum, you'll find the icm profile from Blade, which for some reason, I don't have that in my machine by default. Probably because I bought my machine from Microsoft store. However, I also find the Blade.icm is very yellowish as well, so it probably doesn't help you in this case.

It would be nice if someone with a calibration tool can upload a calibrated icm profile to the forum. I remember there used to be one here in the forum but the link is dead now.

It's hard to do because panels are rarely consistent even in the same model from panel to panel, but I still have the profile that was uploaded by someone. Attaching it.

Adobe CC all scales properly btw, CS6 does not. I've been lucky with the new intel drivers that almost all games I've tried or played so far besides Star Citizen and Bioshock Infinites - but almost all games so far (Vindictus, GW2, Crysis 3 to an extent, Dying Light) resize to full screen properly with 1080 in-game and 3200 desktop.

I followed instructions from several sites (such as https://pcmonitors.info/articles/using-icc-profiles-in-windows/). It just doesn't want to take it. :p

So if I buy the FHD Razer from the Razer store, do they let you return it without a restocking fee if you don't like it? Also does anyone have experience with purchasing their warranty? Seems like it only covers one extra year and they don't mention things like accidental damage. Seems iffy.

EDIT: Also do we think the next Razer would have FHD @ 16 GB? Or are they phasing out the FHD? Or are we unable to predict?

You want to go to "Color Management" -> "Advanced" tab -> "Change system defaults" at the bottom -> Add the Razer.icm profile and "Set as default Profile".

it'd be really nice if Amazon would stock the 1080p version, that way I would be able to avoid $160 tax and a free 2 day shipping is also nice.

^ Yeah, no matter how I did it, it was the same thing.

My Razer is in the box now. I'm going to ship it back next week when I have time. Maybe next year if they have a 1080/16GB model, I'll take the plunge. It would also be nice if they reduced the weight by using carbon fiber like Sony's flagship model. :p

Try check/uncheck the "Use Windows display calibration" box under the "Advanced" tab ?

Other than that, I really don't know. I have no problem applying different profiles.

Nothing unfortunately, I think the Razer is the best one out there right now. But it's not good enough yet, at least for my purposes. If they make it 1080/16GB and try to cut down the weight, I'd buy the next refresh. But for now I'm just going to stick to my Sony SVZ. It's too bad too since the Razer Blade is the best portable Windows laptop for people who need to do photo/video editing, but falls just short of being useful for that user group (because of the screen quality on the QHD and the 8 GBs on the 1080 version). It's a little silly to me too that the 2010 Sony Vaio Z had an Nvidia card, a 1080 screen, a 512 GB SSD, 8 GBs of ram (and probably would have been 16 had it been released today), a Blu-Ray drive, weighed only 3 pounds, was only a bit thicker than the Razer, and 5 years later we're barely surpassing that. (Granted there's more heat with more power today, but still. I think the companies could try harder.)

Has anyone got RB2015 working on Win10 preview? I got issues running 3D apps like 3D Mark (Fire Strike gives error "Hardware device removed") or Uniqine Heaven Benchmark 4.0. I got latest drivers (349.90) installed.

Edit: tried also the older drivers 347.88 but got the same problem.

I recently tried the QHD+ version and was not the least bit impressed with the display. Far too reflective and whatever coating it does have makes the screen fuzzy. I sent it back and went with the FHD version. Wow, what a difference. I know the 8GB is a problem for many, but the FHD version really does seem superior to me.

That's strange. Do you have to tweak some settings somewhere for the GPU to be able to run DX11 3D apps, or install some software or something? For Unigine Heaven Benchmark I can only run DX9 and OpenGL versions, not DX11. The FPS for DX9 averages around 95 in 1600x900 resolution.

yea same experience i had with the QHD. that coating they use is unnecessary considering it's supposedly already a matte panel underneath that glass.

    Hi Guys,

So I've essentially decided to buy the Blade 15 - FHD version. I want a nice looking laptop that I can play on occasionally for the next 3-4 years. I don't play anything too intensive, SC2, HoTs, D3 etc etc.

However I'm based in the UK - my intention is to send the purchase to my aunt and then she can ship it to the UK as a gift so we avoid customs charges.

My question to you is - baring the amount - would you agree that this purchase makes sense or should I buy the MBP or anyother sub 15inch laptop that looks awesome :)

    Thanks
