<!-- Generated by XStandard version 1.7.1.0 on 2007-10-10T08:11:59 -->In celebration of the ThinkPad's 15th Annivesary, join us tomorrow at ThinkLive where Lenovo will demonstrate a T-series notebook being dropped on the floor. But only after we pour water on the ThinkPad while it's turned on.
We told you about the ThinkLive 15th Anniversary event last week and the fact you can win a $5,000 exlusive Lenovo ThinkPad Reserve notebook by registering. But what other reasons do you have for tuning in? Don't worry, we won't be just lighting the candles on an Anniversary cake and clapping, here's a rundown of what you'll see during ThinkLive if you register to watch:
- We'll reveal the first design prototype of a ThinkPad. This has never been seen publically, only behind closed curtains.
- We'll take a look at the famous ThinkPad 701C, better known as the "Butterfly" notebook that has an expanding keyboard..
- The ThinkPad Reserve notebook with its leather coat will be on hand for a cameo
- Want to see the insides of a ThinkPad? We'll have a naked ThinkPad with all of its insides showing and take a look at the internal roll-cage.
- We'll get destructive by pouring water onto the keyboard of a ThinkPad while it's turned on to demonstrate the the spill protection capabilities
- After dousing the ThinkPad with water, we'll drop it on the floor (while turned on) for good measure to demonstrate the hard drive protection and sturdy build of the ThinkPad.
If you can't make the webcast event live, you can of course watch it after the event so long as you register. The drawing for the ThinkPad Reserve notebook will take place on November 2nd and the winner will be announced on November 5th. Just make sure to register to be included in this competition. Below is all of the information for the when and where of this live video webcast event.
What? Lenovo and NotebookReview.com will present the ThinkLive live video webcast celebrating the 15th anniversary of the ThinkPad. We'll be taking a look at older ThinkPad models -- some of which were sold, and some of which never did quite make it onto shelves. Then we'll see how the current ThinkPad models have built upon and improved from the way things were. At the end of the ThinkLive event we'll invite people to submit via email any ThinkPad related questions they might have. For those that register and watch, be it live or later on, you will be automatically entered to win a ThinkPad Reserve notebook in a drawing that will occur at the end of the month.
When? October 10th at 2:00 p.m. EST (7:00 p.m. GMT). If you happen to have work during this hour, we'll archive the video so you can watch it later of course.
Where? Register here and you'll get access to the video cast page location and an email providing the link to it
How? All you'll need is a web browser and Real Player to watch the event. After registering for ThinkLive there will be instructions and a system test to see if your computer is ready-to-go for watching the video.
Why? We'll give three reasons for why you should register and watch: 1) So you can win a $5,000 ThinkPad Reserve leather clad notebook. If you register and watch, then you're entered for the drawing that will occur at the beginning of November (contest rules here). 2) See exclusive content, such as never before seen prototypes, and a behind the scenes look at the ThinkPad development. 3) We're doing this Live, so anything could happen!

Almost forgot about the 701C. I remember how the keyboard turned heads in its hayday. The 701C along with the S30/31 are probably the ThinkPads which I to this date still remember for their uniqueness.
-
For those unfamiliar with the 701c, you can see an old promo video for it here:

Wow, that feather is horrible, LOL. Would you like to see that again? LOL
-
Yeah, I don't really get the feather...is it meant to represent how lightweight it is?
And they lowered the feather really badly . -

"ThinkPad is as ThinkPad does."
"My Momma always told me, 'ThinkPads are like a box of chocolates. You never know what your gonna get.'" -
"Momma always says there's an awful lot you could tell about a person by their Laptops. Where they're going. Where they've been. I've used a lot of laptops. I bet if I think about it real hard I could remember my first laptop."
P.S. I cant wait for the ThinkLive event(hopefully, i will be able to see it live) -
Awesome event.
I personally can't wait to watch it .
-
Maybe they'll use an extra reinforced thinkpad for the drop test.
-
wow, 14.4 fax modem. where have the good old days gone?
its such ashame that no other notebooks are picking up the expandable keyboard. to me, that has to be one of the most ingenius designs I have seen. I'm wondering what was the main reason to drop it. was it too prone to wear and tear? -
Does Lenovo seriously think that they can compete with Panasonic Toughbooks? PLEASE! Thinkpads are very well-built, no doubt, but I don't know how well they will survive this torture.
I totally remember the Thinkpad 701C. First Laptop I ever remember when I was a kid. I thought it was so cool, than any laptop that didn't have a folding keyboard was crap. Of course, I was only 7 or 8 years old at the time
I'd love to see that prototype thinkpad!
Unfortunately, I won't be able to register, since tomorrow is the day I head back home for fall break. -
I must not miss this!...i know it wont be as boring as the AMD Barcelona Webcast..they didnt drop it to see if it could stand to abuse As far as toughbooks...i dont care..i just want them to drop a macbook and a thinkpad and see who wins..i think thinkpad
-
The macbook is imo already garbage even before it's dropped

I'm really looking forward to the cast tomorrow. -
quick question. I registered and ran the system check. It said that I didnt have Real Player (eww...) installed, so I downloaded and installed it. When I run the test again it says that i still dont have it, what's going on?

Stop cross posting Andrew, it's against the forum rules.
-
...
You did say anything could happen.
=P -
So it's 2:07 and all I'm seeing is an event will start shortly video.
-
2:16 here and nothing is going on.
-
me too, same animation & music for 15 minutes now ;-(
-
maybe they already dropped it ?
-
Hmmm technical difficulties?
-
220, still the 70s looking waiting screen. This is kinda like their shipping scheme, promising great show/product with a wait time of unknown.
-
Anyone seeing it?
I came in 10 minutes after 2:00pm so I thought they dropped it already. I rushed to the nearest access point, login, and get the blue screen. =o -
Or drowned it?
Must be a technical glitch. Perhaps someone official will be able to post a note to us here or on the home page of notebookreview to let us know whether to stay waiting or go on about our other work. -
Show almost as good as ThinkPads ....just kidding
-
Wow that was insane! Who would have thought that pouring a little water on the keyboard would make the notebook burst into flames like that!?! That was crazy! I hope Andrew is OK!
-
2:25pm EDT
The waiting music is draining my rig's will to live. Plus I'm not getting the animation in RealPlayer.
2:26pm EDT
Change to WMP and get the music and the snazzy Event will begin... graphic -
2:50? Guys it's almost 9:00 here, hurry up!!
-

-
Frack.. I've got a f2f meeting at 3.
-
When is the event going to start? It's already 30 minutes late.
-

Still nothing.
-
Is this going to be rescheduled??? Been watching for a while and saw nothing but "Event Beginning Soon" or whatever and now a blue screen.
EDIT: Perhaps they doused the thinkpad and dropped it already... and it was the machine they were planning to stream from. -
Probably the machine just BSODed .
-
Anybody else seeing nothing but a blue screen?
-
-
My faith is in IBM. I KNOW it'll start.
...so... do I get a free thinkpad for being on your side? -
Same here. Had the "will begin Momentairly" screen since 2 PM and the blue screen for the last 25 min or so.

Awww... Is this a test to see how long we will keep a bluescreeen up on our computer? I don't like this game. Windows does that enough by itself. lol
