Well that sure is a real kicker. I've been wanting to get a laptop since late April, then I heard that the AMD X2 is coming out on May 9, then that gets delayed, and now these fine models aren't a-coming until early June.

Will the waiting ever end? ;(

Just bumping the question, I'd like to know myself. The looks of it are awesome and if it comes out in Canada before college begins I'll grab one.

Just searched it up. Marketnews.ca had an article about it a month ago.

The Pavilion dv2000 Series entertainment notebook PC and Compaq Presario V3000 Series Notebook PC are finished in a refined, high-gloss coating and inlaid design that the firm touts as the “HP Imprint”. This process, developed in cooperation with Nissha Printing Co., based in Japan, provides a durable finish with fashion appeal, says HP. Both models are scheduled for availability in July, with pricing TBD.

I want one. However, they aren't available (yet) here in the Netherlands. Does anyone know if and when HP starts shipping the dv2000 to Europe?

As of late im pretty bent on getting a v2000z, and I dont seem much difference between the 3000 and 2000...other than the choice between processors and the slightly bigger screen.

There are a couple of things in the V3000z which is a definate advantage over the V2000z. The option of using dual core processors, use of dual channel memory and DDR2 memory. DDR is being phased out and availability should become less and less and the price will only increase. The Turion single core processors are basically at the end of line and there probably wont be any upgrades in the future. This cane be a drawback sometimes if you think you"ll be needing more processing power.

The V2000z is a good laptop, the only drawback being that it will be soon replaced by the V3000z.

BTW, the screen sizes are the same between the 2.(14" WXGA)

They are the same screen size! It's crazy to get the older model. The V3000 is WAY nicer.

Can anyone tell me why there are great difference in price of these two dv2000z and V3000z ($150)? A webcam should not cost that much!
    I'm wondering between these two.

They are pretty much the same computer. the Dv2000z is a little thinner and as your pointed out comes with a webcame. The V3000z is slightly thicker and does not.

Do the keys on the dv2000t have the option of lighting up to be used under darker conditions? Also, would it possible to replace the 10/100 ethernet port with a 100/1000 port?
    Thanx

Is it worth buying the dv2000z instead of v3000z?
Whats the benefits I can get from the dv2000z?
I also noticed that there are more buttons at the first row on the dv2000z than on that of the v3000z.
Is there a switch to turn the wireless on and off?

The dv2000z has a integrated webcam, which the V3000z lacks. The extra buttons controls the functions for Quickplay. Basically media buttons(start, stop, pause such things). In the V3000z you will have to use the keyboard shortcut keys to perform the same funtion.

Yes, there is a wireless on/off button located in the front left of the laptop.

The dv2000z has more of the multimedia focused laptop and the design reflects this, the V3000z is more conservative and lacks the "multimedia" features. It still has Quickplay but lacks the webcams and dedicated media buttons. I bought a V3000z since I rarely use the webcam or play too many movies. So, I would recommend choosing one based on your usage and liking.

Thank you miner. It seems like the root of the two are the same. But you've already for the V3000z so I decided to take the dv2000z, to gather more information for the forum. However, I was somehow stuck in Vietnam for another two months, and will return to the USA late. Hope that in the two months there will be price drop and some upgrade for the graphic chip.

Could anyone post the comparison of the Turion 64 X2 chip and the Intel Duo Core chip (preferably T2400) on:
    RAM efficiency
    Battery life
    Office application
    Gaming
    Heat

    Thank you

Someone mentioned that the v3000 doesn't offer the remote control. Anyone know if this is true?

I've found the remote control very valuable. Use it to control WMP and other programs while listening to MP3's, pause DVD'd while watching in bed, it even controls Powerpoint presentations!

The ability to tuck the remote in the ExpressCard slot, and not have to worry about losing it, or remembering to bring it along on trips... it's really a very clever design.

If the v3000 doesn't offer this, I'd consider it a big drawback.

The remote is optional and has to be purchased separately. The laptop does have an IR port so adding a remote shouldnt be a problem.

I can speak for the TurionX2 since thats what I have.

Since HP currently only offering upto the TurionX2 1.6GHz(TL 52), it is comparable to the T2300. The T2400 would be faster.

It is more than powerful enough for any sort of task. I havent found it to be slow for my uses. The comparable Core Duo is supposed to be a bit faster and give a little bit more battery life. With the 12 cell battery I average around 5.5hrs. To be honest I dont think the difference is quite noticable. As for as gaming performance it all depends on the graphics card. If you have a good graphics card then you are almost guranteed good performance whatever processor you choose. Among the 2 versions of the V3000, the AMD based version has the better graphics card( Nvidia 6150 is better than the GMA 950 but I wouldnt call it as a gamers graphics). Also you should be fine with either graphics dependingon the games you are going to play. Older games should play fine on both whereas they would struggle with the newer and future games.

The laptop runs relatively cool compared to other 14" laptops. There are few warm spots, other than that no particular heat issues.

Other question, what are the materials which are made this laptop? (plastic or metal?)

How much time of battery gives the 6 cell and 12 cell?
    Thanks

Bought the compaq v3000z last week. Coolest notebook i have seen in many years, went to office depot to check it out closer and i think its more stylish than its HP Brother. Just checked the fedex tracking, coming out of Alaska Today and now they are backordered on the hp/compaq website until october 30th. Lucky to the people that already bought. I will post my review in 5 days of how the notebook is.

    Forget the 12-cell battery.

In one of the worst design moves I've seen, they've stuck the battery out the bottom of the notebook, rather than the back.

This means that it is practically impossible to carry the laptop in a case/backpack with a bulge sticking out its bottom.

As for the 6-cell battery, I get 4 hrs browsing with the Core Duo 1.66 GHz, and my friend gets 3 hrs with the Turion X2 1.6.
