Anyone have experience with the shiny hp touchpad? I'm wondering if its bad. I may have to stick with pure matte. I've used a dell mini 9 and lenovo T400 and also tried out a sony FW. The lenovo had the best trackpad feel.

    HD2300?? What are those?
The standard IGP is the 3200HD and the supposedly new standard 4200HD.

I thought I remember seeing a series 5 for desktops on the Intel site? I was assuming that would trickle down to their notebook. I guess not?

There are no newer integrated GPUs on chipsets than the 4500MHD and X4500 HD. Some netbooks use the slower GMA 500 (not 5000). The new desktop chipset is the P/H/Q55/57 and the GPUs are going to be built into the CPU die (similar to Arrandale for notebooks).

Then what is this series 5 chip board I see on the intel site under the desktop section? Or does it mean it just a chipset and not a new gpu? It next to the series 4

Would the HD2300 be better on battery over the intel 4500hd, while still offer equal or better support.

I think u guys are confusing a Celeron SU2300 for a Ati HD2300, which does not exist.

Reread my previous post. The desktop 5 series chipset (P55, P57, Q57, H55, H57) has no integrated graphics. It will be only in the next gen CPUs.

I did not know either but this is what Google showed me:

I think so too. Battery + heat.

    Similar performance.

    I don't know if HD2300 supports 1080p H264 acceleration. Intel 4500 does.

Why would they use such an old graphics card? Considering ATI just launched the 5000HD series, and that the 3200HD IGP is one of the best IGPs there are?

I dont know, but it doesnt make sense to me...

I expect it's because of TDP and power consumption. The larger DM3 will have HD 3200.

Wsnt the 3200HD and the 4330HD if you choose AMD Neo as CPU?
Or NVIDIA G105M if going Intel?

I remember reading on one of the PDFs for a pre-configured dm3 that the press embargo gets lifted on Oct. 18th, 4 days before launch. I guess we'll definitely know buy then?

And I wonder how long it's gonna take for orders to go out once Windows 7 is released. It's gonna take a LONG time to pump out CTO laptops because people will be ordering so many.

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/ATI-Mobility-Radeon-HD-2300.6940.0.html

Link to the Notebookcheck benchmarks for the HD2300. It also supports UVD which is ATI's H264 acceleration. For gaming, the HD2300 will probably offer better performance since it has far better drivers, but nothing too special.

I've seen nothing to indicate that it will use an HD2300, though. It would be pointless to use that as a discrete option when there are a lot more modern choices that offer better performance at similar, if not better, power consumption.

Lots of configurations available on the DM3 here: http://www.topproduct.nl/hardware/n...ent_Notebook_PC/id/3542584/specificaties.html

And some prices (keep in mind that €1=$1 for computers):
    HP PAV dm3-1010eb L335 HD 3200 4GB 320GB 13.3" € 665,21
    HP PAV dm3-1020eb SU7300 4GB 500GB 13.3" € 831,81
    HP HP Pavilion dm3-1020ed Intel Celeron DCSU2300 4GB 500GB - Intel GMA 45 € 659,27

The leak comes from this website, but I agree with you, I think there wrong this time.

    HD3200 seems far more likely.

So are these HP Envy models even going to be sold in the EU? I see nothing about this product on the UK HP website. Then again the 13" Envy was not sold in the UK either.

As far as I know Germany and UK are getting them, Netherlands is not. I'm not sure where I got this information from.

Geizhals is listing it, but no shop is. Yet.

Engadget has an Envy 13 review up
    http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/05/hp-envy-13-review/

In summary, its a nice system with a horrible trackpad. They even said the wrist areas of the laptop were cool even though the fan was generally on, though quiet, most of the time.

I'm glad to hear the 13, according to Engadget, doesn't have any heat issues, though it doesn't sound like they tried to put it through its paces. They didnt mention how warm it got when they were testing the games, though.

The trackpad sounds like a joke though! I really hope HP releases a driver update before it is generally available otherwise people are going to go nuts. From what it sounds like, you cant use more than one finger at a time. I use my current laptops trackpad the exact way Engadget uses it in the review, so it will kinda suck for me until an updated driver is available.

    Thoughts?

Laptopmag has more info about the trackpad. It would definitely be a deal breaker for me, if I was spending this much money.

I'm more interested in the DM3 than in the Envy.

That's a genuine shame about the touchpad; the 'clickpad' concept was not perfected or even close to it before release. All Envy 13 reviews I have seen so far have similar comments about the touchpad.

It would also be a deal breaker to me. I don't care for touchpads but I end up using them more than I like. I travel with my notebook every day.

Hopefully for is sake its done fast. Its really is a 100% dealbreaker as is. The whole point of being 1" thick and ~5lbs with the 250M is to be portable and I can't imagine people who use laptops portability not routinely using the touchpad. A mind numbing stupid move since it was likely done only to further copy the macbook feel, which is stupid because I've rarely come across the touchpad as a major selling point.

Its got the ATI 4830, just sayin'.

The touchpad issue seems to be due to the 'built in' buttons... it didn't work for the Mini 10v/11z with Dell, it wasn't terribly popular with the MBP... just put buttons on it

All this hype about the clickable trackpads . . . it's not like it adds any additional functionality. Before the clickpads we had to tap wherever we wanted to click.

HP either didn't test it enough or took the word of engineers.

Thank HP marketing. They're targeting the consumers that have the "it's more expensive so it must be better and I have the money to blow" mentality. Sony and Apple aren't much better in terms of performance per cost either IMO.

Well partly true imo, but don't forget the 1600*900 displays HP uses with 82% gamut and 400 nits are very very expensive.

Same goes for the Sony Z and, in lesser extend, the MBP displays.

Add to that the used materials and design costs it's suddenly not that crazy any more.

I'd rather pay a third of the price of the envy 13 and get the dm3. I mean, for something you will want to carry everywhere, you'll be less concerned with scuffing/scratching the cheaper one.
