DM3 is replacing DV2, according to Laptopmag. It will have Nvidia G105 and ATI 3200 options.

Going by European prices it's less than $500 for the base model with Dual Core SU2300.

Thin and fragile don't necessarily go together. It's more about materials than thickness. Look at Macbook Air. I don't expect the Envy to be fragile at all.

So what Intel CPU is it using? I read the AMD is the Neo Dual core, but it never said anything about the intel cpu. Is it the CULV cpu, or are they going with the LV SL?

In the Envy 15 its the Core i7.

I think the Envy 13 will use an SLxxxx series. source.

The Intel CPUs in DM3 are CULV like SU2300, SU4100 (confirmed). I expect SU7300 or SU7400 too.

Interesting, they are paring the CULV to a nvidia based gpu. It's very rare to see the CULV paired with a gpu not the intel 4500HD.

Where do you see this? The 311 has an N270.

And why does the DM3 weigh so much more than other 13.3" culv's?

    Are those Asus 13in also?

I would have easily moved to the DM3 if was a compact 12in device, came with the just announced SU line of cpu, at that price(I would think SL line would be asking too much).

After it's been out for a year or 2, and has some nice upgrades... i might just have to slip it into my budget :D :D :D :D :D :D :D:d

I expect because of the materials used. More aluminum than Asus and Acer.

DM1 is the compact one. 11.6".

Forgot about that one, all they need to add is new CULV cpu, and a better gpu than the 4500hd, and I am sold(for under $725 should be possible).

Dont you find interesting that all these new i7 based laptops are thinner??
The Dell Studio 17 is thinner, the Toshiba X500 is thinner, the HP E15 is quite thin!

Oh, I am dying to see this in a ThinkPad!!

Well the HP is quite thin because it forgoes the DVD drive, but yes you do make a good point. Intel must have done something to help lower the heat it generates.

At load, Anandtech shows that the quad i7s consume as much power as the last generation quads (at least the two top models). On average, users on the go will not stress out their CPU, and due to much better architecture, the ability to shut down unused cores, the idle power consumption is a lot lower. Average power consumption is not just the midpoint btw the min and max power since it isn't linearly weighted.

You're very knowledgeable, so I'll ask you. Do you know if the Envy 15 will be compatible with this RAM (w/4x2GB)? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104158.

    Thanks for the help.

Yes, in the OP, it says that the Envy 15 will use DDR3, so 2 of those kits would work. As a note, all next generation notebooks on Calpella will only use DDR3 with speeds from DDR3-800 to DDR3-1600.

All these Calpella based laptops are using DDR3 with 1333MHz to match the CPU QPI (I think it is called that way...which runs in 1333) speed.

Are you sure that 1066 will match?? I know that PIN count should be the same...

Posted in another HP Envy 15 thread. Brought it here since some were asking about backlit keyboards.

About 1:12 into that clip, the HP guy mentions LEDs in the keys, specifically the wireless button key. Is he talking about the little orange/red light on the key? I hope since he mentioned LEDS in the KEYS that it means it has LED back lighting for the keyboard.

Any speed DDR3 will physically fit. Calpella is supposed to support 800-1600MHz, though I'm not sure if Clarksfield is limited to 1066-1333MHz. I don't think it matters if it matches the DMI (it's not QPI like on desktops and this isn't the same as FSB).

Arrandale is going to bring a whole lotta confusion with all their processors having the same number. The difference being the letter after it.

    i7-620M = 2.66GHz standard voltage (35W TDP)
    i7-620LM = 2.13GHz medium voltage (25W TDP)
    i7-620UM = 1.20GHz low voltage (18W TDP)

They should all be released in Q1 2010.

edit: even more confusing are the new i5s, the mobile variant is supposed to have integrated graphics and HT too (desktops don't have HT) but lower L3 cache

    http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/15591/1/
    http://www.notebookcheck.net/Newsentry.153+M51a13ddfc24.0.html

    i5-520M = 2.40GHz (35W)

So I take it the i7-620LM is like going to replace the current intel SL line, while i7-620UM will replace the current SU line?

I have read up on this for a long while but what advantages does HT have again?

Consume more power and makes it seem like you have another core in task manager lol. Basically, it improves efficiency of multithreaded code. Hopefully Intel has done more than a simple rehash of the P4's HT, but I'll wait to see when data comes out on their implementation and it becomes more mainstream (and hence more reviews).

If that is the case, then why the hell are they including it on their laptop cpu, instead of their desktop cpu's? I would think it be more logical to put in on their desktop no? Or does Intel have some new power management system for HT?

Intel got a lot of flak from the inefficiency of HT from P4, but initial reviews seem like the new i7s (Clarksfield) are at least a little better (though it's hard to really compare since they are still power hungry quad cores). I guess we'll see more about how HT fares in the coming months from Arrandale reviews.

Man 7.5 hours out of a 15in i7 device with the extended battery is great. My Vaio TT with the ULV cpu only can do 7 hour(if I turn off my dvd drive) and that is only an 11in device. Keep up the good work HP. I will take a 13in in Black, but with what ever cpu will replace the SL line.

Agreed. 7.5 hours is great for an i7 laptop and the 2.5-3 hours of battery life on the laptop without the slice is already better than what I am getting in my current laptop.

Give me the Envy 15 in black!
