The 4830 is a 128-bit GDDR3 card...
-
-
Yeah.. I just realized by checking notebookcheck.
-
But, the Dell brand works with the 'eject' key on the laptop... thats worth fifty bucks, amirite? -
I just want to let you all know the vents in the front do not blow air out, in fact they suck the air in and then blow it out the sides and back vents.
-
Worrying still arch983. Earlier I said those could be intake vents, but still they pose a problem location-speaking. If you put the laptop on your lap, you block those. No air venting, overheating as a result.
-
no i'm not worried. I just wanted to let everyone know that they are indeed intake vents and not probably intake vents.
-
Oh...lol. Thanks for the clarification.
Ok, on the front, those are INTAKE VENTS. Still they are badly positioned if you ask me. A core i7 and a 4830HD should require a good vent system, and intakes on the front i dont think they will cut it (though they do solve the problem of raising the laptop...) -
Can't wait till these suckers get usb 3.0.
-
"Both models offer, therefore, the resolution of 1366x768 pixels"
I hope the 15 will also offer 1080p res or I will have to look else where. -
-
Right, what happened to USB 3.0?
But, back to topic, a high res screen on this please, dont make the FAIL of placing a low res with such a high end hardware. -
It's cool that it has 4 RAM slots. I can get 8GB RAM for much cheaper now...
I hope those WD 1TB 2.5" drives come out soon. I want to run an Intel X25-M 80GB G2 and WD 1TB.
My only gripe is lack of backlit keyboard. Also, I hope this thing doesn't throttle. I don't mind it getting warm/hot as my previous Dell SXPS 1640 got pretty warm and it didn't bother me at all. -
throttle? what do you mean?
Do you really use the BL KB? I mean, most of users end up being touch typists in some time, and not even look at the KB at all. (at least I know I am one with QWERTY KB...AZERTY makes me think) -
I actually use the BL KB. I guess I'm just not a great typer. lol -
LOL...ok. I think I am the minority in the BL KB world. I am a touch-typist, not like many. lol
Oh, I dont know if you can constrict the CPU like that...after all, it has HT and TB, wouldnt it be illogical? -
-
Yes, possibly. But those CPUs did not support the changes i7 does, which to stay cooler, shuts down all cores but the ones being used. And TB allows the ones used to run higher.
-
Serg you should look up the Das Keyboard and go Dvorak
-
Wow HP is really stepping up. The Envy 15 really looks like a fine notebook. Magnesium alloy and aluminum should be the preferred build of most high end notebooks rather than plastic crap.
-
It is impossible to write on this thing, I dont even understand it!!!
What is this?!?! Who uses such a nightmare? -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
-
Anyone notice that all of them don't have optical drives, lol too much envy for the macbook air
-
If I ever need to burn something for my stone age friends, I'll get the external. -
I wonder how these core i7/i5 mobile processors will multitask
http://www.electronista.com/articles/09/07/15/mobile.core.i7.i5.roadmap/
Although theres that intel turbo boost thing it should run at fast but i wonder how it's going to multitask with clock speeds @ 1.6ghz and 1.7ghz
correct me if im wrong -
What has the speed to do here?
Speed helps the task to end faster. The multithreaded architecture on them helps, and the fact that they have HT and TB helps too.
More threads run at the same time=more multitasking -
Would you say the i7 will be faster comparing to the current mobile quad cores tho?
-
its got some really nice designs etched in on the palm rests too.

As a longtime Dell buyer, I liked what I read about the Envy 13 - until I saw the price tag. Here's to hoping Dell has something similar come October
-
-
-
Quad cores in general are only faster in tasks that support multi-threading, which is less than the number of applications that utilize dual core threading afaik.
-
Anyone know if these will be available in Canada at the same time?

That ProBook 5310m is really starting to nag me. I like my dv5t but I don't use its power and its battery life is barely above what I use. I certainly would not mind a thinner and lighter laptop with more than two hours of battery life. Looks like a great machine.
ATM I am debating whether the C2D is worth $200 over the Celeron.
C2D SP9300 (2.26GHz/6MB L2/1066MHz FSB) vs Celeron SU2300 (1.20GHz/1MB L2/800MHz FSB).

Another nice feature of the 5310m is that it uses standard 2.5-inch hard drives . . . at first I thought it wouldn't, given the 1" thin form factor.
Proud user since '07. -
I remember you mentioning that sometime (years?) ago lol on NBR!
-
Why... the... hell... would... you... use...that...thing?
-
Probably because a well trained typist is supposed to be able to type faster on a Dvorak than a standard QWERTY. After all, the original purpose of the QWERTY format was to slow down typing, because if you typed too fast on the old mechanical typewriters, they'd jam up. Dvorak was developed later, when jamming due to excessive speed became a thing of the past, placing the most commonly used letters/keys in the home row, where your fingers are normally supposed to rest while typing, thus involving a shorter travel period and thus faster typing. I'm unfortunately a trained touch typist on a standard QWERTY keyboard, and I've never bothered to learn Dvorak keys... even though I type fast enough that I could probably benefit from it.

If the ProBook 5310m is only available with Windows 7, then it'll have to come out no sooner than the release date of Windows 7 right?
Has HP ever in the past done pre-orders for their buisness notebooks? If so, do they allow customization on pre-orders? -
At Chaz. Really you use a Dvorak KB?!?!?
I cant even deal with an AZERTY! My fingers automatically find their way into the QWERTY. I recall reading that the QWERTY was designed to slow down, yes, but nowadays everyone seems to use it and is quite easy I must say (I am used to it).
WOW! I just noticed how long are the travels between keys in my KB!!! Most words require that I move my hands a lot and I see my fingers move all around the KB...where can I find a Das Keyboard? -
Google yields: http://www.daskeyboard.com/ (it's pretty expensive for a blank keyboard...)
-
Posted in another HP Envy 15 thread, thought you all would like to see it.

That said, I wonder if there will be a 15.6-inch version of the 5310m . . . that would make my life much harder. -
oh...sorry, since I saw a Das Keyboard Dvorak, I thought you used that thing...I cant figure out how you can type on that...lol
Well, today I had to deal with an AZERTY (damn french KB), and I looked like a monkey on a laptop!
SOmething like this:
But back to topic, are this KB backlighted or not? They do seem like Mac KB, which are BL, will these be? -
-
Add 'high quality audio' to its list of expectations.
I'm wondering if this notebook is working up too much hype for its own good. -
-
-
-
Dell Adamo? Personally I think the Apple isn't all that aesthetically pleasing and the construction isn't as good as the business level notebooks I've used.
-
I honestly was a bit shocked with Dell when I saw them add that leather accent for the Studio XPS 13/16. Hopefully that means that they are considering something a bit different from the usual matte/glossy color options they usually give us.
