Dutch sites have leaked details on upcoming HP Notebooks. The DM1 is a 11.6" CULV, while the DM3 is a 13.3" CULV. The DV8 is a 18.4" with Core i7 CPU. All these notebooks are expected to ship with Windows 7. Here are some of the details. Keep in mind that notebooks in Europe are more expensive than in the US. Usually a notebook costing € 800 in Europe sells for about $ 800 in the US.
HP PAVILION DV8-1080ED CI7 720QM 640GB 4GB 18.4IN BD W7PNL € 1426,81
HP PAVILION DM1-1020ED C2D SU2300 320GB 2GB 11.6IN W7P NL € 481,89

Phil, so they come only after 22nd October with Win7? :/
I really don´t know if i should wait for the DM1, or get the Acer 1810TZ. I am afraid, that the DM1 will have for it´s price a not so good battery life as the 1810TZ. But i like the HP keyboard and the brand itself a bit more then Acer.
What do you think? -
More details on the dm3

I haven't seen the weight of the DM1 yet. Might be heavier than 1810tz. -
Good to see some more serious competition. This might be a worthy contender to 1410 with the same su2300. It would really be interesting to know the other specs like glossy/none-glossy screen, battery capacity and weight.
-
Yes I am curious about the weight and battery life too.
I think all HP Pavillions have glossy screens nowadays. -
Nice find phil
looks promising -
I'm glad we already know these specs. A dutch shop already put them on their site which also were submitted to another dutch site to compare prices. The webshop seems to deleted the information, but it is still available on the price comparisation lists. That's also the only source i could find on specs.

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
The DM1 and TM2 sound cool. In my future I might get a tablet, but for now an 11.6" will do. How soon after Arrandale's launch will these culv machines get upgraded to it? Will they be stuck on low power C2D/C2S/P/C for a while into 2010, or will they make the switch soon?
-
@Jayayess
It depends on how much you are willing to pay
Sub $500 will be stuck with 45nm for a while, I suppose. -
I'll guess the consumer ulv market will be using 45nm Penryns for a long long time. Maybe they will eb rebranded, just like the C2D's for the desktop. I don't think we will see cheap ULV Arrandale's before H2 2010 tbh, but maybe even later.
Those high-end things are really for the pro's. Most likely to be found in high end business tablets or small notebooks like the expensive Vaio TT was before it vanished. -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
-
Looks great, but it'll be priced similarly to the 11z - competitive starting point, not exactly competitive base features, gets really pricey when you start adding options. It'll probably start at $400-450 and get to around $650 for the one you want, unlike the 1410/1810 that are $450 for the one you want. I like the design, but it won't be the greatest deal ever.
-
-
Is it me or the keyboard looks ugly?
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake

The 13.3" one is nice but not a big fan of that resolution. I which they'd have a 15.4" one or 17".
-
-
It does have a chicklet keyboard, it's very thin but I bet it has a crappy screen...
-
-
Wasn't Sony the originator of the chicklet keyboard? Either way unlike Mac or Sony, this HP will probably have a crappy screen.

I am waiting for more pictures and details on the HP DM1. These 11.6" ultraportables are using the current Intel Montevina platform that is to be replaced in regular laptops by Capella soon. I am wondering when Capella will come to CULV ultraportables, especially cheaper ones like the Acer 1410/1810.
-
Jaya asked the same question earlier in the thread...There's no way its coming anytime soon, even shortly after the launch of i7/i5/i3. I'd give it a good 10 months minimum before Capella hits the sub-$500 pricepoint.
-
I really hope that HP puts a matte display, like in their buisness notebooks and the Mini 5101, into their new notebooks. This would seal the deal for me
What i hate about the Notebook is the releasedate
@Keyboard:
Just in short: look at the Sony X505 and you know who came up with the keyboard design.

Naturally, the timing suggests that Capella will hit sub-$500 shortly before then. Think about it - Montevina went sub-$500 two weeks ago, and Capella is releasing in two months. I'd give it a bit more time than that between Capella going sub-$500 and Sandy Bridge's release, but I'm still more than willing to bet that for at least the next 8 (6-10) months, the max you'll get for $500 is an SU9x00.

Howitzer225 Death Company Dreadnought
Those new HPs kinda look like Sonys, keyboard-wise.
-
Don't forget the new mini series model, which, as Engadget says, will have ION.
-
Wait I thought I read the SU2300 was a Core 2 Solo cpu not a core 2 duo? Or did I read it wrong somewhere?
-
Commodore PET, the originator of the Chicklet keyboard
" The Commodore PET 2001 was the first fully integrated computer from Commodore. It was based on the same architecture as the MOS/Commodore KIM-1 but provided a keyboard ("chicklet style"), tape drive and monitor all housed in a space-age case." -
I read the first chicklet keyboard on a computer was a Sharp Zaurus. This picture is probably not the first one, but just as an example:

Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
So this Definitely means that the HDX18 is rpobably going to recieve a I7 as well. I mean thats there flagship consumer notebook so i am sure it is headed that way as well.
Also is it just me or does it seem like HP has some kind Of exclusive deal with AMD and the Neo platform? Lol they are they are the only ones who seem to be pursuing it. That being said i just recently posted something in the MSI forum about a AMD NEO MSI X610 series notebook:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=5259373 -
-
SU2300 and SU2700 all both called Pentium. All that means is they have 1MB cache afaik.
-
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
Jeez only 1mb? Wow, we kicking it back to Pentium 4 days
-
Don't think so. Ill be putting my money on this:
Intel Celeron Dual-Core SU2300 1,2GHz 2x 0,5MB cache (dual core)
See: http://www.fudzilla.com/content/view/14947/35/ and http://nttxstore.jp/_II_EI12940536
Also makes sense with the other dual core celerons having 1MB of cache total
------------------------------------
Intel Pentium (M) SU2700 1,3GHz 2MB cache single core
See: http://www.intel.com/Consumer/Learn/Notebook/pentium-dual-core-detail.htm
Confirmed by Intel. -
I wish intel would include S,D or Q in the processor name somewhere to denote how many cores it has.
Least AMD does the X2/X3/X4 thing.. -
Obviously, like anything, evolution as changed things and what we now call a Chicklet keyboard looks a bit different to what was originally called a Chicklet Keyboard.
But, I was just trying to point out that it was the PET computer that first had what was called a Chicklet-style keyboard. (Even the article calls it that). -
Pretty please, continue keyboard history in another thread.
-
Yeah even though it has a dual core, I'd rather have a Core 2 Solo over the dual core celeron. Just never had good luck with Celeron cpu's.
-
HP and AMD are known to work along...
Most of their laptops have or had a AMD and an Intel equivalent.
Why the Neo Athlon and Neo Turion? I am not sure, but perhaps to maintain this "relationship" AMD wants HP to push the Neo?? IDK... -
I hope the processor in the 11.6" notebook is half way decent. -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CULV -
Ouch, I rather have a dual core atom. I had a Celeron back in the day on a desktop and it was nothing but headaches. I dunno I hear the Celeron name and it just brings back memories of that machine I had. I understand it is a dual core cpu, but that how does that compare to the Core 2 Solo? Will that be able to do flash HD with out lagging? What is the SU4100 cpu, is that like a Pentium Dual Core? Also, I don't see the SU7600 listed. Also is the SU7300 faster than the SU9300? I know ghz these days don't mean a thing but still?
-
SU2300 should be enough for all Full HD Flash.
Keep in mind that Intel just uses the names Pentium, Celeron and Core 2 Duo as marketing. They're the same CPUs with different cache sizes.
SU7300 is slower than SU9400. -
Ah, well doesn't the SU7300 and SU9300(i was referring to the model not the SU9400) have the same cache? Then what is the difference.
So then would this be better 11.6n model spec wise vs the 11.6in Timeline with Core 2 Solo? Since it can do flash hd and is a dual core cpu? Shame they are using the SU4100 which has more cache than the SU2300. -
I think SU2300 will beat the SU3500 in software that uses both cores.
Difference between SU7300 and SU9400 is clarified here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CULV -
That is the thing they both look the same to me minus ghz, and multiplier? I can't tell the difference if, on is faster than the other? Plus the SU7300 cost more.
Also base on that price there the HP with SU2300 should cost less than one with the SU3500, no? -
