Depends on what applications. For my usage 1MB is enough.

I would avoid Celeron with 0.5MB, but anything higher is good enough for me.

My E6420 used to choke on Opera on Windows 7 RC with 4MB cache.

How can you even know how much cache size is "enough"?

The choking was probably not related to the cache size.

By trying many different CPU's and reading many benchmarks.

I recently spent a lot of time with a Dell Studio 1555 with T4200 (1MB cache). Zero hick ups.

CULV is underestimated...it is quite capable of regular usage.

I used a classmate's Toshiba today, which has a T4300 (I ninja checked his sytem info) and it was just about as snappy as my P8700. At least, just in basic tasks (office apps and internet programs).

That's always the thing. Everybody is always like GHz GHz and GHz... Really, while just surfing and listening music, i can't tell the difference between maximum powersaving or high performance on both desktop and laptop.

Only my Eee PC T91 with 1,33GHz Atom is way slower which i also experience.

For basic tasks, the Pentium's are quite good, they are C2D with less cache AFAIK. But if you plan to stress the CPU, it will be noticeable then.

That is why the CULV exists. It is not raw power, but it is powerful enough for those tasks and a bit more. And they are not power hungry.

Interesting. And after reading that the 1.73 performs almost as good as the QX9300...the this is a very strong CPU...

Does anyone know when they will be released? I would like to buy one of those laptops. They look great and Intel Core i7 is simply beautiful.
