I work for a local gov and we are doing a forklift by replacing over 1000 pc's and we are purchasing the pc's with Vista licenses for when we move to Vista and installing XP on all the new pc's using our XP licenses.

I just want the screen to be big improvement on the D630.
The reason I like the D620 is because all the connections are at the back.
I'll give Dell another chance. -
1366x768 =~ 16:9
√(16²+9²)=18.36
11.1/18,36=0.60
0.60*16=9,67
1366/9,67=~141,2 DPI -
A lot of people seem to want a uber high res screen but little do they think will their eyes take it in the end.
The text is awfully small at WinXP default 90dpi setting even on a 15,4" WSXGA+ screen but it will be virtually unreadable on a 14,1" one. I've had the chance to sit behind a Lenovo 3000 N100 15,4" WSXGA+ screen and at least my eyes couldn't read text off it for too long... -
I have seen a D820 wit 1920x1200 and it seems fine to me. 1680x1050 on a 14,1" is even a bit bigger. So perfect for me
-
As it seems, I predict that D630 will come with a Quadro NVS 140M.
Why? Santa Rosa Thinkpad sez it all @ http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3657 -
Yeah, it wouldn't supride me neither.
But the rumors about WSXGA+ on 14,1" are gone -
dell's webdesigners leaked again
fortunately google cached it

besides D630/D830 it looks like a D531 is also coming with Turion X2 processor

Only a number :'(

Freedos??! Like don't have to pay for windows (~50$ rebate) or like we charge the same price but you don't get windows? -
True its only a number.
So dont jump into conclusion. -
Clicking on the cached page on the D531 brings me to D420?
Hey, it maybe not be true. -
WSXGA+ ??? WOW. You must have good eye or 1" away from the screen. -
1920x1200 is a good resolution on an 15.4"
1680x1050 is even bigger on a 14.1" -
1920x1200 is a good resolution on a 15.4" ??? Are you serious? Can you look at that resolution for hours?
I got 1920x1200 on my 24" LCD monitor and its just perfect. -
Yes, I am.
I hate the lack of pixels and screens with a low pixelpitch. -
Lenovo's lack of 15.4 and WUXGA is the reason I chose Dell. I personally find the resolution very comfortable. I only wish they sell them externally so I can run dual monitors.
Of course it's not for everyone. -
Looks like no April release date. At least not here int he U.S.
-
Dell is really behind and slipping in the market share.
-
I went to Dell just now and it say 2 days left on $350 off $1500.
So what happen after the 2 days? The new D630 and D830? -
Homer_Jay_Thompson blathering blatherskite
After another 4 days, Dell will offer the same sale and claim prices will never go this low again.
-
Dell does this again and again and again... -

I think information about the Lenovo Thinkpad T61 will finally be revealed on May 9th, 2007. When is Dell going to release information about the Dell Latitude D630?
-
There was a leak on T61 and R61 just last week on the IBM site. But IBM pulled those pages.
Let's see, if memory serves, the first batch of T61's will feature widecreen, Santa Rosa with optional Robson, up to 4GB of system RAM, either the new Intel integrated graphics or nVidia Quadro NVS 140M, multi-card reader, LCD roll cage, firewire, etc.
Better speced T61's will come in July. -
And oh, from the looks of the leaked picture, looks like the T61 will have a built in webcam in addition to the built in mic.
-

-
No idea. The webcam seems to be built into the top of the lid, just above the screen. And I am only guessing from the looks of the leaked picture, there is definitely some room up there for a webcam, the listed spec didn't say anything about a webcam.

I never understood webcams that do not swivel. I can record important lectures with a swivel webcam. The only thing a non-swivel webcam is good for is recording pictures of my face and I am not good looking.
-
They work well for video conferencing. A lot of notebooks out there have non-swivel ones. The only line of notebooks that has mostly swivel-cams is Acer, most others only have one or two models with the swiveling one (Asus W5 and F5; XPS M1210; ASMobile C90 and Z37; I cant think of any others).

http://www.zt.ru/products/dell/2302/
the complete new latitude lineup D531/D630/D631/D830
looks the same as the old D620/D820
the D531 makes me believe these picks, because it is the D820 case, but WITHOUT trackpoint, secondary mouse buttons, and a small 14.1" screen in what is otherwise a 15.4" case. -
I do hope the specs are incorrect, as that D630/D830 is crap
no Turbo Memory (Robson)
no ExpressCard slot
no Centrino Pro (requires an Intel GbE not Broadcom for starters)
probably no iAMT -
I don't believe them either.
-
Weird. Why a Russian website?
-
What I want to know is if either has a digital video output (HDMI or DVI). Dell is idiotic because half their laptop video cards support these outputs, but the laptop cases DONT. And I've been waiting for Santa Rosa, so if these dont I am done with waiting for Dell to catch up. -
DVI is available via the docking station, and I'm really having a hard time thinking of a notebook that has built in HDMI right now. But yes, the lack of DVI is crap.
-
-
Homer_Jay_Thompson blathering blatherskite
I am not interested in DVI nor do I know what it is? Is that the connection used for computer monitors and TVs? Anyways, the biggest deal breaker for me was when Lenovo decided not to include WSXGA+ resolution in their 14.1" monitors.
-
Probably they never thought about WSXGA on 14.1 and was it just a rumor from a phonecall with a Lenovo technican who was just out of bed.
-
There's plenty of notebooks with DVI, and some with HDMI as well. The lack of DVI or an ExpressCard slot on the D630 don't bother me. The lack of Robson technology would bother me and the lack of iAMT is a shame.
What bother's me most, is that there is SO MUCH LACKING on the D630 that I'll have to buy a Lenovo instead. -
Homer_Jay_Thompson blathering blatherskite
What is Robson technology? What is iAMT?
Edit: The current Dell Latitude D620 and the D630 are Trusted Platform Module 1.2 compatible. -
Where else can I get more info on D630. No expresscard? That is what all the new laptop out there are in now.
I like DVI. Better and clearer screen on your LCD monitor.
I read that there is a standard now for something like a DVI for the laptop and its cheap. -
-
Robson (Intel Turbo Memory) is a 512MB or 1GB flash memory for Vista ReadyBoost. Boot and application files are cached there for faster loading and lower energy consumption. It's an optional feature for Centrino Pro.
iAMT (Intel Active Management Technology) is a corporate feature that allows computers to be remotely managed, even when the OS on the machine is malfunctioning. It's mandatory for Centrino Pro and is also included in Intel vPro (corporate desktop platform) -
-
Very nice ...........
-
iAMT is mandatory for Centrino Pro and requires an Intel gigabit ethernet controller. If a notebook doesn't have iAMT, it will simply be Centrino Duo. Santa Rosa comes in two flavors, Centrino Pro and Duo, and iAMT is the only difference between them.
If you get a 32GB SSD Robson doesn't matter and would in fact be useless. But telling people to get a 400$ upgrade, which offers only a quarter of the space of a standard harddrive, is not going to get Dell any marketshare back. And if you just want performance, you can put that 32GB SSD in any notebook, one that comes with DVI, ExpressCard, Robson and stereo speakers as well. -

I do not understand. Can someone dumb it down so I can understand what these new thingys are?

Dumb it down?
