It is handy for school work where I have many things open at once. Originally bought it for stock trading - which I ended up hating, but got a monitor out of it![]()
I go to GMU. I have a single because I have alot of credits and get first dibs on rooms haha. I am one of 6 people in my dorm, 2 singles and 2 doubles. We all share a common living room and kitchen and have 2 bathrooms. It of course cost more than the doubles.

swap out the Acer 11.6" for a 13.3" white Macbook 2.1, and it's pretty current -

The Thinkpad is off all the time, but that will very quickly change. I bought it for primary use, but ended up on my netbook instead. I bought it for VMware.
The HP is for multimedia. Video games, Blu-Ray, etc.
The MacBook I'll be using as my work computer for the job I just got hired at yesterday. Windows via Boot Camp for work, OSX for play..
I'm actually looking at picking up a 4th for the job, so I can reclaim the Mac as my "toy" system, so I can play around with OSX & Linux. -

was thinking of doing something similar but with two monitors I can fold down/lower when watching movies on the background tv.
A couple questions if you happen to know, and could help me out :
The ATI 5870 appears to have 2 DVI out, 1 HDMI out, and 1 DisplayPort out.
So, do you have 2 dell monitors on the 2 DVIs and 1 dell monitor on the HDMI ? And it will detect them all ? What if I do 2 monitors for the DVIs, and then connect the HDMI to the Wall TV, if the TV is off , will it still work fine on the 2 alone do you know ? So, when needed, you could power on the TV and play a movie from the PC as a 3rd monitor, and turn the 2 Dells off ?
thanks! -
The dude with the 3 notebooks i know how you feel lol, i have 4 myself, a new toshiba Qosmio x505, the core i7 is phenom, dell xps m1530, dell studio xps m1340, and a dell precision m6400, and probably a secondary portable semi ok nettop asus 1201n or UL30, probably the 1201n best bang for your buck.

The third one is using the Display Port
The TV is using the HDMI
The 5870 (and 5850) can use all 4 connections but ONLY 3 at the same time, and if you use 3 at the same time ONE of them must be the display port connection. If you use 2 or 1 monitor only it can be any of the connections.
So what that means is to use the TV I have to go into my display control panel and swap the TV with one of the active monitors and if I want 3 screens on at once one of them has to be the monitor connected to display port.
May sound annoying but it only takes a few seconds and not many video cards can support 4 monitors out of the box, usually you would need 2 video cards. So its kinda just extra, and you can of course just get a cheap 2nd video card to run more monitors if you wish.
HDMI carries sound too of course so thats why its good for the HDTV connection, but I dont use the sound on the HDMI I use the output on my X-Fi card directly into my home theater amp. -
Awesome... ViciousXUSMC thanks for the explanation !

Sorry for the mess. I am going to work on cleaning up the wires. We mainly use this for web surfing, working and printing documents.
Specs: HP Athlon XP 3000+, 2GB RAM, GeForce 6200, 250GB Hard drive.
In the corner of my bedroom, I have this small corner desk setup to surf the web, do some downloading, and e-mails before I sleep or get up in the morning. The HP DV2-1030 is light and thin enough to take to bed and watch some anime before going to bed.
Specs: Athlon Neo 1.6Ghz, 4GB RAM, 12.1" Screen, 320GB Hard Drive, Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
When I need to get some serious work done, I goto the dining table and boot up my MacBook Pro. A minimalist workspace but there are no distractions. Dining table is usually clear when it isn't mealtime so it's easy to focus.
Specs: MacBook Pro 15" 2.53Ghz Unibody, 4GB RAM, 500GB Hard Drive, Snow Leopard.
HP Mini 110 used to quickly jump on the web and e-mail while watching TV. I also take this thing with me on vacation since it's so light and does it's job very well. I dumped the Vaio P for this and haven't looked back since.
The mini mainly resides in my car so I can easily pull it out when I'm at a coffee shop or wherever WiFi is available
Specs: Intel Atom 270, 10" Screen, 2GB RAM, 160GB Hard Drive -

I'm an Eagle Scout from a few years ago and it caught my eye -
I'll have some pics of my setups up soon. No, I didn't make a typo. I do in fact, have two computer setups in my bedroom. Soon, it may be three. Currently, I have my main setup which I plan on doing some changes to soon and I also have my recording setup which has my Ion belt-drive USB turntable, graphic equalizer, Yamaha 5-disc changer, and G3 iMac. I mainly just use that setup for making digital versions of records.

Duckfart: That must be one HOT desk you have there. -
I just cleaned up my dorm here at good ol' UPitt, since I'm going home tomorrow. And a few things have changed.
First, the TV. It's a Samsung 32". Got it for $399 (no shipping fees or taxes) after Black Friday. HDMI cables when I get back after the holidays.
The keyboard has finally found its way out from under my bed; I now have room for it and can play at my leisure.
The Xbox is new. It is the CODMW2 limited edition. It has a 250GB hard drive.Attached Files:
