So my hinges haven't seized. Broke a few small tabs off on both the main chassis and the hinge cover.

Sorry no pics, It's hanging on now...but I'm not going to risk pulling it off and cracking the tabs that are left without replacements.

Not worth RMA. I am unhappy about it but still happy with the machine overall.

Only hoping those pieces that broke off didn't fall into the case.

Does any one else have a keyboard that "crackles"? It's possibly airflow through the keyboard fluttering the membrane out something.

    HA see I'm not nutz -> http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/698297-snap-crackle-pop-sounds-your-gt-70-60-a.html

Ooh and this forum IS THE resource for this model...hands down!! :)

I have this GT70 0NE. i see a yellow mark on the Nvidia GTX680M card in device manager and windows says "windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems (code 43)". anyone know what it could be? is it a definite hardware problem with card? i have tried newest drivers from nvidia but no change.

Sounds like a driver problem. Did you try several new drivers or just one? Do a clean install and remove all traces of the previous drivers with the "Clean install" option with the new driver. Or go through program and features and then do "Driver Sweeper" on the rest.

If that doesnt work, then there might be a hardware problem yes,

Before writing this off as a problem with the graphics card, this indicates a driver conflict, and many times is due to a conflict with a driver downloaded by Windows update. Try completely uninstalling the driver, reboot, then reinstall the latest Nvidia driver. If this does not work, uninstall again, reboot, then flush all instances of Nvidia from the system using Treexy Driver Fusion (Driver Sweeper replacement). Reboot again, reinstall the latest Nvidia driver, and your problem 'should' be resolved.

    :)

EDIT: Yeah, like Cloudfire says...... he beat me to the post..... one of these methods will hopefully get you back to normal.

thanks for the tips guys. let me see if i get this right. i already uninstalled/deleted driver from device manager and then when it shows up as std vga device i reinstalled nvidia driver (latest from website). now i did run windows update. so let me try a clean install of windows and then see what happens.

pls help! so i did a fresh install and started off by installing Nvidia drivers first and the nvidia card seems to be working. but as soon as i run windows update and the HD4000 driver is installed, the Nvidia card is stopped by windows. any idea how to get around this problem?

Did you install the HD4000 driver off the driver disk or the MSI website? I found that the nVidia driver can't disable the Microsoft published driver of the HD 4000 so it can take over rendering functions. Try and get the latest driver from MSI or the Intel site and see if that helps.

You could try uninstalling the HD4000 drivers (remove the drivers as well) via device manager.

    Then re-install your nvidia drivers.

ok. let me explain what happens. i did a fresh install. tried to install Nvidia drivers first thing off the disc. complained it needs intel drivers first. so i bypassed that by right-clicking in device manager and pointing to the folder on MSI CD. it installed the Nvidia driver so now i have a system with Nvidia driver/card & a Standard VGA adapter under device manager. none of them have any yellow marks but screen resolution is pisspoor due to it using the standard vga adapter driver. now no matter where i install the intel HD4000 driver from (CD or directly intel website) the Nvidia card goes into yellow-mark condition "Windows has stopped this device as it has reported problems (code 43)". does this have something to do with Optimus? if someone could help me get both the display drivers working step-by-step i would really appreciate that.

Yes, the latest Intel HD4000 driver should be intalled first, then afterwards, install the latest Nvidia driver.

Download both of the drivers below, and save them to your desktop. Uninstall the currently installed Nvidia and Intel graphics drivers.... reboot, then install the new Intel HD4000 driver first, reboot, then install the newest Nvidia driver. Reboot again, and you should be fine.

Well that is really strange. Looks like the IGP driver is incompatible with the 680M driver, causing conflicts.

I have tried both Windows 8 and Windows, got my IGP drivers from MSI on win8. No problems. Installed IGP drivers from the driver CD on Win7. No problems. Updated it with the IGP driver you get from Windows update. No problems.

I have no idea why this is causing problems for you.

I think Windows Update is updating his Intel HD4000 driver, after he has updated his NVidia driver. This will create the issue he describes, since the Intel driver should be upgraded first, and the NVidia driver secondly. It's a matter of sequence.

Well it should be an optional update so it does not automatically install, you might want to check your windows update settings however.

Exactly! When a new Intel HD 4000 becomes available at Microsoft, users who have their Windows Update set for automatic installation will experience this problem. As such, it's best to have Windows Updates set to only 'Download and Notify' when updates are available. This will allow users to view and opt-out from automatic Intel HD4000 installs. This is somewhat a pain, but when I see a new Intel HD4000 update, I download and install it from the Intel site, then just reinstall my latest Nvidia driver.

HD4000 driver is indeed a optional update and not a important update.

I have selected the Windows update to notify me about all updates, and let me choose wether I want to download them so it doesn`t run in the background stealing my bandwidth :p

Why should that cause conflicts? I have never followed any specific driver steps, and I extremely rarely get compability problems. When I think about it, last time was probably in the early 2000s when I had a desktop with 3rd party hardware from 1000s different companies. Talk about a big pain in the *** :p

ok. so i uninstalled/deleted both the intel & nvidia drivers from device manager. now i have 2 "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" in my device manager with one having a yellow mark (device cannot start). is that normal? i downloaded the two drivers linked above (for intel hd4000 & nvidia). when i try to install intel driver it says "this computer does not meet minimum requirements for this software". what the heck is that all about?

    OK do this:

Do a fresh install. Preferably format the harddrive. install the OS from ISO or CD.
Install drivers from the MSI CD.
Install S-bar, keyboard LED manager from CD or MSI.
Go through all updates on Windows Update, also the optional updates, and install the HD4000 driver. Once you are done with all of them.
    Download all programs you use.
    Install Nvidia driver

If this step doesn`t work, you have faulty hardware somewhere, most likely the 680M.

ok, will do that now. strange thing is as soon as i install HD4000 driver, the other adapter gets the yellow mark (even if it is listed as "Standard VGA" without Nvidia drivers). if i uninstall the HD4000 driver, the yellow mark on the other adapter goes away - doesnt matter if its listed as Nvidia GTX680 or Standard VGA. with Intel HD4000 uninstalled, the Nvidia adapter is listed as working fine. does that conclusively mean the Nvidia card is not faulty ? (although its not being used as computer defaults to the "standard vga adapter).

I suppose I should have ask this first, but which OS do you have? I have assumed, Win 7.

    OK, try this......

With all graphics drivers removed, install the appropriate MSI Intel graphics driver below, first.

Intel HD Graphics Family_Intel Ivy Bridge (WIN 7)

Intel HD Graphics Family_Intel Ivy Bridge (WIN 8)

Then update this by installing the latest Intel HD4000 driver from the Intel website, and then the latest NVidia driver.

    :)

It has to do with the sequence in which the graphics drivers are installed. The Intel HD4000 driver needs to be installed first. Sometimes when this driver is updated automatically with Windows Update, it creates an issue with the NVidia driver. Normally, simply reinstalling the NVidia driver afterwards will correct the problem.

    :)

    ARK | Intel® Core

Your CPU is performing exactly as Intel intended. This CPU is rated to run at 3.30 GHz (33 multiplier) when a single core is active. When 3 or 4 cores are active, I think the maximum multiplier is 31. That's the maximum. When power consumption goes up, you might get a little less than this.

You would need to run ThrottleStop and click on the TRL button to see the exact specs for your CPU since Intel still does not include this model in their most recent November 2012 Specification Update. I think your turbo multipliers should be something like this:

    1 core - 33 multiplier
    2 core - 32 multiplier
    3 core - 31 multiplier
    4 core - 31 multiplier

When there is a load on your CPU, the multiplier spends most of the time at or close to 31.00 so that looks good to me. There is definitely no throttling problems and Turbo Boost is working correctly. Thanks for posting a big log file so there is plenty of data to look at.

i am on win7 and very soon will try win8 fresh install. i am sick of this crap.

You might wanna try the following and answer some of these questions:

1.When you got it, was Nvidia/Intel card working ok?

2.Then over time, did you start getting yellow "!" On the nvidia BEFORE you started messing with drivers?

3.Did you experience system freeze while gaming with nvidia or running benchmarks on nvidia?

    4. Currently does you system detect and run on Intel gfx ok? Can you currently game/benchmark successfully with the Intel gfx?

    5. And finally, when you go to install nvidia does it say "no hardware found" / "no appropriate hardware / compatible hardware" etc. (official msi drivers to be certain).

If all of these are YES, you most likely have a failed nvidia gfx card. You'll either need to swap the card yourself or RMA the laptop.

If you followed the install order that striker referenced you should be good software wise.

Geez, this is another one of those situations when I wish I was behind your keyboard.....

Yes, of course your Device Manager wil show yellow exclamation points when necessary drivers are not installed. Again, please try reinstalling the drivers in the sequence recommended..... and then check the Device Manager. I am very skeptical here, that this is a hardware issue, or that an OS install is necessary. If you think you are having fun now, wait till you do that WIN 8 install. This would NOT be my recommendation..... but to each, his own.

    LOL!

    :D

EDIT: Oh Gawd, more folks jumping into the mix..... this is where I exit. You folks help this guy out, will ya?

i have not used the system at all. all i did was start installing windows updates and at the end of it happened to notice the yellow mark next to Nvidia adapter. so not sure if it was there when i received the system. I am in the process of downloading intel drivers from dog-slow MSI server. i already tried with the drivers on CD, installing intel one first from CD then nvidia one from nvidia website. the yellow mark will not go away from Nvidia adapter until i uninstall the HD4000 driver. period.

with both drivers uninstalled i have both listed as "Standard VGA adapter" with nvidia one having yellow mark (device cannot start due to problem). i am going to install intel driver from msi website, reboot, then install Nvidia driver from nvidia website, reboot. i have stopped windows update for now. is there anything i have missed?

edit : tried that. didnt work. still yellow mark next to Nvidia. i guess its going to MSI for fixing. thanks everyone for their help. i may give win8 a shot before sending.

I've had my GT70 since they launched (May, I think?) and have had some problems with it, but I'm out in Iraq and we don't usually have internet access, so I haven't really been able to look up a solution. The first problem is sound. My sound is weak, barely audible at times. WMP lets me boost it to 200%, and then it's nice and loud, so the speakers CAN be loud but I don't know how to turn my settings up. All the basic interfaces (Sound Mixer, and the Sound controls in my Control Panel) are turned up to 100%. My drivers are good. Is there a different driver I can use? or some way to boost the volume?

Also, my CD drive stopped working almost immediately after the laptop got here, but we can't ship large things like a laptop out of the country, so I can't get warranty work done. Is there a CD-Drive you would recommend?

I know my questions are basic and simple, but so am I, but I just don't have much time as I'm only able to ask this while transferring to a new site, which may or may not have internet. Thanks!

    FYI:

    New NVidia Driver release.....

    GeForce 310.70 Driver

    Release Highlights

As part of the NVIDIA Notebook Driver Program, this is a reference driver that can be installed on supported NVIDIA notebook GPUs. However, please note that your notebook original equipment manufacturer (OEM) provides certified drivers for your specific notebook on their website. NVIDIA recommends that you check with your notebook OEM about recommended software updates for your notebook. OEMs may not provide technical support for issues that arise from the use of this driver.

    Before downloading this driver:

    1. Please check to make sure that your notebook has a supported GPU (refer to the Products Supported tab below).
    2. It is recommended that you backup your current system configuration. Click here for instructions.
    3. If you own a Dell Inspiron 1420, Dell XPS M1330, Dell XPS M1530, or Dell Latitude D630/D630c it is highly recommended that you first install this Dell software update.

This GeForce driver is recommended for the best experience in the blockbuster holiday games. GeForce 310.64 drivers add optimizations for Far Cry 3, providing up to 38% faster performance.
These drivers also include the previously released optimizations for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Assassin's Creed III, providing up to 26% faster performance in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and up to 18% faster performance in Assassin’s Creed III, as well as smooth, shimmer-free graphics with TXAA antialiasing in both games.

    GeForce R310 Drivers:

I've been having some issues with Intervideo WinDVD playback of Blu-Ray movies. Have of you had the software refuse to play movies and say that the Playback with the current display driver is not supported and found a fix for it? I have already tried to change which graphics processor to use but apparently I cant change that option either.

Yes, VLC was first on my list to try however it has some issues with playback of some movies due to the copyright scheme. The other downfall of VLC is that you cannot access special content in some instances without having access to the Menu of the Blu-Ray which currently is unsupported by VLC. Normally I use that for just about everything but since this format is part of Sony's walled garden proprietary software tends to work better.

Just want to say thanks to everyone for their contributions in this thread. Based on many posts and the feedback/research, I just placed my order for the GT70 0NE-281US. I was going to order the GT60 0NE-404US, but figured I would spend the extra few hundred and get the larger screen plus the dual 64gb SSDs. Can't wait to try some games on it. It will get lots of use in January that's for sure.

Hopefully it gets here soon! Thanks again look forward to chatting with you fellow techies.

I just received my GT70 0NE and am trying to see what I need to update. Do I need to Flash the bios to 70T or update the firmware at all?

    Hey Gang!

I'm having trouble updating my EC-FW to the latest version. After download and unpack, I click on the "ECALL" file, which the MSI website instructs to do in order to update, but I get an error message that says that the file is not compatible with 64bit systems. Why does it say this? I can't imagine MSI releasing an EC update that is not compatible with what we all have.

I then downloaded the 'MSIHQ Tool installer' and mounted the new EC through that onto a flash drive. When I Boot from the drive, absolutely nothing happens. When I check the BIOS to see if the flash worked, my system EC-FW is still V 410.

    I have a GT60 680M Win7 3610 Processor.

The reason I so desperately want to update this, is in hopes that it will improve the temps on my system. Games are running good. Skyrim and Witcher 2 both sit at around 45 FPS consistently, but my temps run around 90C W/ Turbo Fan on. Room temp is about 80F. I live 5000ft above sea level, does that make any different in temps? Also, I can only ever hit a score of around 6000 in 3D Mark11, and I have the latest Nvidia driver installed. This might be normal, but I see some guys hitting 6200 regularly, stock, with temps holding around 72-79C.

Even Ken's score makes me jealous! I know he's running the modded VBIOS, but with that score, his temps are still significantly low.

    Any help? Thoughts?

    Thanks

    Hey Jaxeen.

There are two Firmware`s I flashed my GT70 with.
First one is the CPU table. The other one is the "first release".

I`m not shure which I did what with, but I think its the CPU table.

    A) Make a bootable USB disk with "unetbootin" you find in MSI homepage
    B) Transfer the EC flash files to the USB disk.
    C) Start in FreeDOS Safe Mode during bootup by tapping F11 during start up and selecting "USB drive"
    D) Start ECALL.BAT in DOS which you will find on your USB drive
    E) After that you will see lot of weird letters like "XXXXX" "ZZZZZ" etc and your fan is going nuts on full speed. Then it shuts down. Then you remove your power cord and your battery and let it sit there for a few minutes before putting it in again and using your notebook like normal

The other Firmware I just double clicked on Winflash within windows and it did everything for me

Okay, thank you! I will give that method a try and ill report back on whether it worked or not. The latest Win7 EC update for the gt60 does not specify whether its for 32bit or 64bit. Only hint is when i recieve the error message after clicking the ECALL.BAT file, it states that its not compatible with 64bit system. Hope it is compatible with my 64bit OS. Will it kill my system if its 32bit specific and my flash goes through?

I posted some benchmarks and temps of my own MSI GT70 0NE-276US here:
    Part 1 http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/699099-some-gt70-0ne-temperatures-3dmark-scores.html#post8981699
    Part 2 http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/699099-some-gt70-0ne-temperatures-3dmark-scores-2.html#post8981896

What I'd like to add is that I didn't notice power consumption more than 140-150W during 3DMark11, 3DMark Vantage, IntelBurnTest, FurMark or any other test except for OCCT Power Supply test.
And looks like I need to update to the latest Firmware to get rid of throttling.

My 281US got here Friday before I went out of town. Managed to get Windows 7 Pro installed (clean). Found out my model still has the dual 64gb U100's....wasn't too happy about that. Still performs well enough though.

Installed a bunch of games, played far cry 3 on max settings 1080p, alt tabbed out to Speedfan, temps were showing 81c, 84c max. Seems a little high.

All in all seems like a good unit. Haven't done anything with bios or firmwares yet. Not sure if I will or should?

Mission Accomplished! Thanks for the guidance Cloudfire. Although I'd have to say, that was one of the most nerve racking things I've done in a while. I was so afraid at each step that I was going to brick my system. I found the instructions provided by MSI as well. They were more detailed, but were still missing a few steps. Phewww! Now I just have to see if the update makes any difference.

Guys, I have a serious problem with my keyboard. If anybody knows please answer!!! It's an emergency!!!
I noticed that my delete button wasn't always working. I didn't want to send my laptop for RMA (I already did that and I got a replacement keyboard) so I decided to remove the key and check if is there a problem. I noticed that one of the clips was broken. I found the broken part, I tried to put it back using super glue, but it didn't work (as expected). So does anybody know where can I buy a new delete button????

    Thank you

Has anybody successfully flashed the UEFI GT70 bios over the standard AMI bios? If so is it safe to use the DOS flash tool provided for the AMI bios upgrade to flash the UEFI firmware?

So just an update on my EC flashing experience.

I flashed my system with the official EC update provided by MSI to begin with. Results: Nada, my GPU was still reaching temps up to 90C within 30 minutes of gameplay. I usually test with Skyrim, which is modded with the 2K and 4K textures.

I then flashed my system with the modded EC that is floating around that supposedly improves throttling a bit. My system temps now reach 92C during gaming within 30 minutes. And I don't know how to test throttling so I'm not sure if it improved any. At idle while monitoring with MSI AfterBurner, my GPU sits around 57C.

Not sure why my temps are so high now. I re-pasted my system with IC when I first received it in September. My CPU temps are good, consistently sitting at around 26-30C. All these temps are monitored with turbo fan off. I figured before I start turning turbo on, I should make sure the system runs normally on regular fan control first. Hmmmm, maybe I just need to invest in a good cooler if I want to do any serious gaming. I'm afraid when summer comes around, because I'm sure these temps will be pushing 100C then :(

There is something wrong if you get 92C while gaming. I get around 70C on mine without the turbo fan on.

As for GPU throttling, its quite easy to spot. Just run Afterburner and look at the MHz/Usage graph. If its a straight line, you are good. If its something like this
    [IMG]

    its throttling.

Have you applied correctly and not use excessive or too little paste?

You could also post your graphs in the temperature thread I made. HWMonitor PRO makes all the graphs for you and much easier to see how hot the GPU really is when we have the entire graph.
