Come on guys I cannot beleive there's still no video review of this beast with benchmarks and proper commentary, please guys who have this give us some videos to chew on whilst we wait our packages to arrive. For example because I made an international order and my friend will bring it 'as soon as possible' I have no idea how long until I have it, so please give me some videos pals :D

Pretty much yeah...just different material on the chassis and a couple less touch button features. The plastic on the chassis even looks the same as the DX.

The touch buttons all work on the PowerPro R 12:17, including TDE, Turbo Cooling and Cinema Pro.

You have to have the secret formula, but we do :)

I asked this elsewhere, but I'll ask here too.

I have purchased the 1761 barebone and I can't seem to set up RAID 0 in the BIOS. There aren't any options for it. My BIOS is version E1761IG6 (v3.06). Is there any place to get an update? I just want RAID 0 to work.

My second question is in regard to the RAM. I bought 8GB (2x4GB) ADATA 1600MHz RAM and it is running it at 666MHz and not 800MHz. It does support Intel XMP. Yes, I know that it defaults to 1333 so ensure it will be supported, but how do I use it at its rated frequency of 1600? Also, I do have an i7-2760QM (ES) which does support 1600MHz RAM.

If you have any questions about how my computer is configured, look here.

So I overclocked the 570M to 730/1460/1750 and ran 3DMarkVantage and got an incredible score of 15,522 3DMarks.

There are two BIOS versions available. One for RAID 0 and one for non-raid. Please ask your vendor for the proper BIOS version for RAID 0.

Intel XMP is typically NOT supported by laptops because the BIOS does not allow for multiple memory profiles...so, it clocks it down to DDR3/1333. I would return that memory and buy DDR3/1600 without XMP support.

Guys can the 2630QM be overclocked using a program like I did with my T9400 on my old Asus laptop? I just used some sort of program with sliders and upped the clock to hell and back.

What overclocking? I'm afraid you won't find any. This topic has been discussed for months now. Only the Alienware M18x has the capabilities to overclock via BIOS. :(

I understand that, but I would like to modify the latest BIOS to see if I can do it. For example, some guy modded the 16f2 BIOS to support overclocking.

Yep, that'd be me. Did you go through the thread and actually see what I've been posting? You must not have, because I specifically recall writing that it is overclocking through the BCLK (NOT multiplier). Your maximum overclock potential is ~120 mhz through this method. Yep, 120mhz, .12ghz. It's not worth risking voiding your warranty over such a marginal increase.

Like I said above, the M18x is the only notebook able to overclock the CPU through the BIOS using multipliers.

I understand that. I was just curious to see if I could get it to work. More importantly, however, I want to change the 'optimal' RAM setting to 1600MHz and then the failsafe to default.

A seller on ebay is offering a backlight keyboard from Steel Series for their MSI 1761 laptops. They are also offering the keyboard as a $60 stand alone item and claim that it is suitable for "GX780 GT780, GT780R, GT780DXR, also works on MSI GT780 BAREBONES!!!!"

Can any of the resellers confirm whether this upgrade exists? If so, will they stock them?

The button will work when you are in the BIOS, but in Windows 7 you need to have the S-Bar utility installed for the eject button to work, and Windows 7 has to be booted with the blue star at the top of the screen loaded.

 I am curious why a blue star on the desktop, which would usually be covered up with your active windows, would be considered ugly and unwanted??

Mostly because the idea is ridiculous , I'm one of those obsessive users who remove every single running process until perfection, this blue star would go against everything I 'stand for' when it comes to using a computer.

I just love to be in control.

Thanks for your helpful replies though I do appreciate it.

I find it quite funny how so many absolutely hate the S-bar star icon. To each their own I guess. Most of the time, I eject from the computer instead of the touch button, but I still keep the S-bar running.

I've decided to join the club and just placed my order for an MSI 1761 barebone from Gentechpc. The only changes I made to Ken's stock settings are to add a second 750GB HDD and a 4x BluRay Drive. Hopefully it will ship tomorrow or Monday. Sweeeeeeeeet!!!!

Congratz Moses, you absolutely made the right choice - I just finished playing GTA IV with everything set to 'Very High' and all sliders on 60.

No stuttering at all, you can go with sliders at 100 but it will lag a bit at night.

Swapped in an AUO173HW01 v4 glossy screen. Best TN panel I've ever seen. Colors are much more vibrant. No bluish hue or grainy anti-glare coating texture unlike the default chi mei screen. If you still need matte, the AUO173HW01 v5 is matte and supposedly good too. I've had an AUO matte panel before and the anti glare coating is way better than the chi mei coating.

I wonder how they are managing that without the second cable needed for the backlit keyboard. Last I heard, someone mentioned that there was only one cable in the barebones version... They must have found a way to add it in.

I have hooked up with a retailer on ebay who will sell me the keyboard for $60 plus shipping. As part of buying the keyboard he has promised to also provide an instructional video on how to modify the 1761 barebone to take the keyboard.

I haven't bought yet, so don't have the video :(

I'm interested, especially why the MS-16F2 can't work with it. It is just because it isn't "MSi Qualified", but in reality there's no difference?

The keyboard mounting is different between the branded GT780DX(R) and the 1761 barebone. The EC/Firmware also controls the power and color illumination. I am going to try it in a few days, they may have "cut" the screw type mounting tabs off so the keyboard will fit and flashed with the branded EC to get the power and color control. I will let you know asap as i try it.
