Yes, the temps will be virtually the same as the MSI GT780DX-X8 since they are basically the same machine.
However remember Furmark will push your GPU far harder than any game out there, and the temps at the keyboard and palm rest are really cool and comfortable.

Updated fist post with info about possible upgrades usin newly launched Sandy Bridge CPUs. Now, when I know that only difference will be the Backlit keyboard, this machine is looking so good to me. Too good...
-
Have these machines arrived at the retailers yet?
I am very keen to hear their thoughts on how these machines compare to the MSI GT780DX models already available.
In particular, whether the Turbo function works, and whether their audio is identical.
If you can tick both of these boxes then I can definitely live without the flashy keyboard! -
-
i really dont care about any of the touch functions on this beast. the specs speaks for itself. im just hoping that there wont be any problems.
cant wait to deploy this machine in front of all the alienware fanboys at my school -

First impression, quick report:
No TDE
No Turbo Cooling
With S-Bar installed, the P1 button which controls TDE on the GT780 only brings up the user programmable window, and the Turbo Cooling button does nothing…it does not even light up.
Now, earlier today MSI told me they were pretty sure it had both features so this may not be the end of the story if there is something I am not doing to get them to work. I have notified them of my findings and will wait to see what they have to say.
I REALLY like the totally stealth case with no logos or advertising at all, and I like the Chiclet keyboard. -
it pretty cheap, but does it quality ?
-
Thanks for the update Donald, did you get to see if you can apply the steel series keyboard on it?
-
[email protected] Company Representative
The SteelSeries Keyboard will not work on the barebone without some major modifications. If done it will not mount properly. The SteelSeries has a screw mount at the top, the Barebone does not. The Barebone MS-1761 uses the same keyboard as the MS-16F2, GT680, GT683, etc. The power & color function connector is on the systemboard on the barebone, I have not checked if it is active. -
waiting on your reports on the button functionality Donald. It is a shame to have the buttons there and have them be non-functional

I love this notebook with all its cool features and hot hardware. But because I live in Norway, I need to change the keyboard to a Scandinavian version with the letters æ, ø and å. I now that bough the GT683 and the GT780R/GT780DX are sold in Norway with Scandinavian keyboards. Is the Chiclet keyboard on the barebone the exact same as the GT680/GT683, and will a keyboard from one of those notebooks work on this barebone? Please give me an answer

We got the Cooler Boost fan feature working, but the Turbo Drive Engine will not work on the barebones models. It is an MSI branded proprietary feature.
Yes, it is the same keyboard that is on the MSI GT683/680 etc. -
-
im very glad to hear that the boost fan button is working! but doesnt the turbo engine button boost cpu speed as well? looks like mine will be shipping sometime next week
i might do an unboxing video if im not busy studying for my first exams -
Interesting, there is a quote in the The Official MSI GT780R/GT780DXR Owner's Lounge which suggests that the GPU in the GT780DXR is "nobbled" by default.
I would be interested to know whether this is correct, and if so, whether the MSI 1761 has similarly been underclocked. If it hasn't then it seems to me that absent the "boost", the MSI 1761 may actually be a better performer???
I would love to hear from someone who has a MSI 1761 to get their benchmarks and thoughts on this issue. -

3DMark Vantage = 10666 w/9427 GPU & 17543 CPU stock out of the box, no tweaks, PhysX off.
3DMark Vantage = 11293 w/10055 GPU & 17911 CPU at 575/1150 using nVIDIA Inspector to set clock speeds.
3DMark Vantage = 12862 w/11794 GPU & 17657 CPU at 700/1400 using nVIDIA Inspector to set clock speeds.
3DMark Vantage = 13072 w/12024 GPU & 17698 CPU at 725/1450 using nVIDIA Inspector to set clock speeds.
I think the point is, you don't need the TDE to overclock, and even with it all it does is bring the MSI standard underclock of 525/1050 up to stock clocks of 575/1150. It is convenient to do that with a push of the P1 button...but hey, using nVIDIA Inspector is easy and lets you go well beyond where TDE takes you. -
Could the P1 button be programmed to open nVIDIA Inspector?

Has anyone tested the MS 1761 audio yet to compare it against the GT780DXR? Can we confirm that they are truely identical? -
[email protected] Company Representative
The MS-1761 audio is exactly the same dynaudio as the GT780DXR and sounds amazing as well! -
-
-
Bump!
Has anyone bought one of these beauties yet?
What are your experiences? -
looks like mine will be coming in on the 23rd (by end of day). but i probably wont be able to get it until the 24th on saturday because the mail room on my campus closes at 5pm(EST). apparently, this package totals to 15 pounds lol. it feels all too good to know that it is finally on its way to me. this notebook was honestly the only thing i could think about this past week. i really hope there are plenty more out there that have purchased the Powerpro 12:17, or any variation of the m 1761, though i really doubt it because everyone who needed a "power notebook" these past two months have already spent their money on the new gt780 with its raving backlit keyboard.
i cant make any promises, but i'll try my best to make an unboxing vid. if i cant, i'll take a bunch of unboxing pictures lol.
as for benchmarks and tests, i dont think i'll be doing them anytime soon, because i really want to get everything settled down on this notebook and really get a feel for what this notebook has to offer. afterall, this is only my second laptop that i have ever ordered online, better yet, the second laptop that i have ever owned. although the envy17 completely failed my expectations, im feeling pretty good about this one. will be keeping my fingers crossed
all i have to worry about now is the shipping. i hope it's cushioned and safe in whatever it's packaged in
thanks. -
-
Thanks Jacob, please try to take some videos too (720p) if your time allows, just show us the laptop, the screen, viewing angles and basically do a mini review
I pre-ordered already but I can't wait to see it!
EDIT:
I just read this and it scared the hell out of me:
-
Isn't it pretty much the same chassis as the gt780? I'm thinking it looks exactly the same, but without the msi logo and slightly different looks on the speaker/touch button panel. I'm guessing the performance is on par with the gt780dxr versions as well.
-
yeah if im doing the video, it will be a very detailed one. i might even start it up and place my camera near the vents to see if you guys can hear the fan.
haniunited, do you know when you're going to get a tracking number? please keep us posted as your order nears completion.
also, try to post benchmarks when you get yours.
-
No tracking yet as my order is still pending, I haven't been able to make the trip to the bank to wire the money yet, and Gentech have been very nice to me by holding my order for a bit until I get it sorted.
Don't worry, I will make an unboxing video, take a lot of high quality pictures for the package, the laptop, first boot and OS installtion etc... I will also benchmark it for everybody to see and give my review on the laptop after the first 3-4 heavy use days.
Our specs are exactly the same 1:1 btw -
im really glad you'll be able to dedicate your contributions to this fourm (unlike me) lol.
its awesome how we have the same exact specs lol. i bet ours would look exactly the same too. although i think mine should have some sort of indication that it is a PowerPro. whereas yours is the actual 1761 barebone. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
One of the nice things about this model is that it is totally stealth with no logos, other than nVIDIA, on it anywhere
-
How is the matte screen of PowerPro R 12:17 in comparison with MSI GT780DTX? Are they 100% the same?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Yes, it is 100% the same screen.
-
paladin44 can you please post some videos / pics and stuff? I can't wait, it will take like a month to get it to shipped where I live and then cleared from customs.
-
Does anyone know whether these laptops will come equipped with the Intel Core i7 2670QM when it is released? If so, do you know from when?
I am looking to buy on about October 12 (only a few weeks now) so am hoping it will be before this!
-
Justin@XoticPC Company Representative
The 2670 Intel Embargo is up the 1st week of October. You would want to contact your seller to find out their availability. The models are now in @ MSI and should be in transit to most sellers.
-
Finally recieved it!! i did make the unboxing video, however it needs some editing lol.. everything was just as i had expected this to be.
where all my keys on my keyboard is evenly leveled, the "s" key is a little slanted down towards the right, as if it is half way pressed down on. feels a little weird when my fingers are placed in an "asdf" typing position especially my ring finger because i feel like its going to slide to the right and hit the "d" key, but it shouldnt be much of a problem, as i am typing this post with my PowerPro R 12:17
even with the slight flaw, the keyboard is still of high quality.
currently, I am still transferring all my files from my envy17 onto this beast, and still experimenting with games and stuff.
the audio is truly superb. i just dont know how else to explain it lol.
idle temps are around 40 deg celcius. very sweet.
the fan without the boost is actually very quiet...its just like any other notebook. put on the boost, and you should hear the fan.
im extremelty satisfied with this so far.
Edit: i forgot to mention the trackpad. the trackpad is very nice, and responsive, but the right and left click buttons are very difficult to press on. perhaps it would loosen up after prolong use of this notebook. the two finger scrolling is also difficult to access, but im planning to use a mouse for this notebook anyways
i also programmed my P1 button to my CPUID hardware monitor so i can check on temps instantlyLast edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
That's awesome you received it! I'm anxious to see the unboxing vid, even though I know it's pretty much the same thing as my 780dxr
. Do you noticed a slight rise in the panel just to the left of the mouse touchpad? Mine seems to rise up a bit on the brushed aluminum portion, but it's like the chassis and doesn't budge at all.

Ordered my PowerPro 12:17 R from Power Notebooks! Looking forward to seeing this stealthy beast in action!

When do you think the video might be ready? I REALLY want to have a lookLast edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
i am so sorry for the delay guys... my roomate will be editing the unboxing vid. but i guarantee that there will be a video AND pictures for all of you by the end of this weekend. i promise. i can't upload the pictures because they were taken on my 5mp camera cell phone(they are very clear), and i didnt bring my usb cord for my cell phone so i texted all the pictures that i took to my roomate, who is currently partying at a very distant location..so he probably wont email me those pics until tomorrow when he comes back.
everything is great on this beast. -
-
Nice! Glad to hear you are having fun with the new laptop. I also await the forthcoming video and pics.
-
Congratulations bro, enjoy it! I simply cannot wait for mine to arrive, but it will take soon with international shipping and tax stuff
Waiting for your pics and videos -
I just found this video on Youtube, probably the only vid we have of this beast at the moment.
