Unfortunately I don't think this comes out until end of August. My theory is that release date is 8.30.2013 because of a recent tweet from msi: "get ready to game BETTER 8.30.2013"

Keyword is theory. I'd love to buy one this week because I want it so bad, but they are being too quiet for an early August release.

Any other theories!? I'd love to know when this puppy will release

I wonder if dealers like XoticPC and Gentech will be able to replace the panel on this one. I'm pretty sure the CPU is soldered so that's not upgradeable, not sure about if the monitor panel would be standard or something custom.

Dealer are saying nothing is upgradeable on this model. You pretty much take it as is. It's much better equipped than the Razer, but you if you cant change the panel or the wireless etc, i may just get a GE70 instead.

I chatted with XoticPC and the rep said that they have one in house as of Wednesday or so (not sure if for testing or what) but at least the final retail models seem to be in production. I'm hoping for August, but IIRC the rep might have hinted at September. :(

Based on alot of reviews i have read there seems to be an issue with the GE60/GE70 with getting really hot. But i don't really go on reviews i like to check things out for myself to be honest with you. Im going to wait for the GS70 seeing that I'm not a fan of the shiny plastic builds and seeing that i had the opportunity to try out the Razer Blade Pro and was going to purchase one till i heard about this BEAST! i dont like how your limited on the storage on the Razer Blade and how i would be paying an additional $600-$700 for essentially the same device with less storage.

I would really love it if they had the ability to do so, But i don't think it will be an option :( but at the same time i never had issues with the TN panels. Im just glad it not going to cost $2700 maxed like the Razer Blade Pro :)

That was based on fan noise if I'm correct and I have not heard of any issue with the GTX 765m in the razor blades or Sagers.

Yea doing some research it appears the GE70 overheats readily. I wonder if he GS70 won't be the same though, a lot of these Haswell systems seem to have that issue, including the Sager 13.3" gaming rig and even the slimmer Asus with the 750M. I'm hopeful the dual fans will help but the slim Asus has dual fans and still throttles badly under load with a 750M, and all the other MSI's were released with throttling issues so..I'm doubtful they will get it right with the GS70 but maybe this will be the ONE model they release this time around that doesn't throttle quickly under load.

Yea it seems to be a design intent of the MSI GE series notebooks to be louder and hotter, but lighter and cheaper yet still have a powerful gaming GPU compared to the GX/GT. I was willing to accept the trade-off, and I have to say I was quite happy with my GE60. I don't know how the GS series fairs though, will have to look more into that.

I love GenTech for releasing a review so quickly. Just a few questions...

    1) How's the noise levels under load and idle? If it is comparable to any laptops, which ones?
    2) Are there throttling issues? I noticed scores were close to the Asus G750JW, but just wanna make sure.
    3) How is the heat levels on the laptop surfaces?
    4) How's the battery life?
    5) What's the prices for both models?

    Thank you so much!

    @cotolay: The video said 08/20.

I bet this thing throttles badly based on the Gentech review. The GE70 which badly throttled in notebook review's benchmark testing, fared much better when gentech tested it. The CPU of the GE70 stayed under 80 C in the Gentech review. With the same benchmarks the CPU got to the mid 80's with the GS70. Notebook check says the GE70 throttles CPU speed badly under heavy use, this one might be worse. Furmark results showing the GPU getting to 90C aren't that encouraging either. Is 90C ok for the GPU temp? I know its ok CPU wise, but that seems crazy hot for a GPU stress temp.

I'm weak, and need a new laptop. I ordered it from newegg first thing. I guess I will just risk overheating, but I do like the form factor and hardware in this thing a lot. I'll probably use XTU and undervolt it 0.1V or so and hope for the best.

The benchmark scores aren't too far off from what the Asus G750 puts out, so I'm still being hopeful on the throttling.

Well, I ordered a Razer Blade Pro about a week ago and this finally decides to come out... I really hope I made the right choice since this looks to have the edge over the Blade in many different aspects and for a better price too :(.

I second this. from what i can tell only the razer blade 14 is the only laptop with this performance and thinness. 17" being razer blade pro and gs70. No other laptop out there being comparable, am i correct?

It looks like MSI is sticking with the SanDisk X100 as the stock mSATA SSDs.

Probably a great thing to do is a quality repaste on the CPU and GPU soon after receiving this model or have a reseller like Gentech do it for you if you decide to purchase from them.

The factory TC application has been known to not be the best in the method of TC application.

For those of you who is interested to acquire one piece in the UK, Box.co.uk is selling them for around £1500 for the 128GB in RAID 0. You can also acquire one from overclockers.co.uk.

I think I might just swap my GE40 for the GS 70 instead.

Cool. So is it warm now while configuring it and moving around Windows? I'd think that could be a fairly good indication of how it would be just web browsing and other simple stuff. While I game, most of my time is browsing the web and such.

The CPU and GPU run cool in normal desktop stuff. Intel XTU does let me adjust the Dynamic CPU Voltage Offset and Processor Cache Voltage Offset to undervolt, but that's not making much diff temp wise that I can see (-90 mv settings).

I am running Prime95 heat/cpu stress test. Temps are staying in the 92-99 C range which is pretty high, but the CPU is not throttling and with all 4 cores slammed at 100% it maintains a 2.9 GHZ clock which is great. I am running 8 threads to max out all cores.

I will run furmark once I let this cook for an hour or so and see how high it goes. So far it climbed rapidly to the mid- upper 90s but then falls back to low 90s, back up to mid-uppers and so on. It doesnt seem to be climbing overall.

I did run a quick furmark benchmark and that completed fine and didnt heat up the GPU at all really. But I need to run furmark much longer to see if that overheats. I am guessing the GPU will be fine, its these Haswell CPU's that really get hot.

So far high temps, but no throttling and maintains a high CPU clock regardless.

What are general safe temperatures for the CPU and GPU? Up to 99 °C sounds toasty.

Running Furmark and Prime95 for 15 mins put CPU temps at 100 C, and the CPU did throttle. The GPU climbed to 85C after the 15 mins. I think Furmark is pretty unrealistic, on a lot of systems it make them unstable and this MSI kept running fine. It didn't throttle much but it did go down to 2.4 GHZ or so for a bit. Mostly it still stayed in the 2.8 and 2.9 Range.

I am now running Unigine Heaven along with Prime 95 to see what happens for 15 mins or so. CPU is hitting 99 to 100 again. The GPU is hitting th 75 C mark. The CPU is throttling again but maintaining a 2.9 GHZ freq for the most part. If it weren't for Intel XTU I would not know it is throttling because the performance remains high.

So it appears the CPU can be made to throttle if you run GPU and CPU intensive stuff for a while, but its minor and I can't notice or measure any performance hit from it. As expected the CPU and GPU temps are high inside, CPU regularly hitting 95-100 C and the GPU hitting the mid 70s to low 80s, and up to 85 with Furmark (which I think is not ever likely to happen real world).

As I said Intel XTU does allow undervolt but even at -100 mv I can't measure any temp difference under stress.

Thanks, Roger for running the tests. With the CPU and GPU running maxed, how hot is the laptop itself? Is it uncomfortable to use the keyboard resting the palms of your hands on the laptop? Is the bottom of the laptop so hot that you couldn't keep on your lap? I guess what I'd like it to be is the laptop to be cool enough during general usage to have it resting on my lap and not get 1st degree burns. :) Any intense gaming I'd be on a table using a mouse anyway. But if MSI was able to keep the chassis cool during gaming that would awesome.

Thanks Roger for your awesome review...It would be great if you can answer the few question below after your test:

    1. The Battery Life on load and Idle
    2. The Sound System
    3. The Screen Quality (in terms of viewing angles and brightness)

    Thanks Man... :)

The keyboard stays pretty cool, the underside and esp the right side of the chassis get pretty hot. Not that much more than any other laptop I've had under load though.

I like the Panel a lot, in my opinion it looks excellent but I have no tools to measure it objectively.

Sound system is nice as well, not the best in a laptop but better than my Dell XPS-1702x was. Viewing angles are reasonable and brightness seems really good.

Are the speakers the little holes at the hinge, or are they the little holes all between the keyboard and screen? The pictures seem to show them as air intakes, so it's kinda confusing.

Pretty sure part of the grille is for speakers and part is for air intake. They probably just blended it all into one for aesthetic purposes.

Any new pics/battery testing/benchmarks of this machine would be greatly appreciated Uzun! Thanks for all the work so far!

I believe the speakers are the little holes on the hinge, and the big one is a subwoofer. Im not 100% sure but it seems that way.

Noise levels do not seem bad to me. They are all loud under load, but its not as loud as my Dell XPS-17 in that regard. Its not as quiet as the dell when Idle however. So Idle noise isnt silent but not intrusive either.

As expected, I believe the 765M is disabled if you pull the plug on the AC power. Running off the battery seems to switch to the INTEL CPU graphics.
