So its release date is April??
-
Uhmm no, it's already out ( newegg has 3 comments from buyers). Seems to be a good machine, however the latest comment criticizes the way of opening up. Release probably depends on the location though. It's unfortunate that notebookcheck or any other thorough reviewer such as XoticPC etc. has not reviewed it yet.

Interested in getting the GE62 2QF with GTX 970M, however as I reside in Malaysia, turns out I'll be getting a 4k screen to be paired up with it.
I'm afraid it will be the dreaded 48hz/glossy crappy screen like what some of the GS60 4k edition employs, something I thoroughly dislike. However a MSI reseller here told me the screen would be matte, suggesting a possible change?
It's just that for all variants of GE62/GE72, the only version that is superior will be the one with GTX 970M i.e. GE62 2QF, but the screen will be a deal-breaker for some, unless MSI got it right this time and uses a better screen though.
The decision for Nvidia to just equip GTX 965M with only 2gb of VRAM is well, downright ridiculous with the bottlenecks the VRAM brings in ultra settings in most games, especially with AA settings turned on. =( -
Matte vs Glossy is only a matter of screen coating. The same manufacturer can produce both Glossy and Matte screens and still limit it's native refresh at 48Hz. -

More the memory bandwidth and texture units before the core at 4K.

Found a new video showing game footage with the ge62 970m.

While the performance seemed good, I was more interested in the fan noise. The fans are clearly audible, but kinda high-pitched. The same pitch as in all these slimline laptops with under-dimensioned fans, struggling to dissipate heat. For my own taste too high and disturbing. -
I have received the GE62 965m version from newegg. I ordered it to replace the msi ge60 which I still had time to return to amazon as i recently had bought that. The 965m screen is amazing just like the GS60 and GE60 the only issue is the frame that holds the display has a lot more flex then both the GS60 and GE60. The temperatures from the gaming I did with it seem to be the same as the GS60. I have played BF4, Arma 3 and other games on it just fine. I took the laptop apart there is no easy upgrade hatches like on the GE60 you have to take the entire bottom apart. Once I did that I found that it has 2 x m.2 sata drive slots you can use as well as the 1tb 2.5 drive that it comes with along with the ability to add one more stick of ram. Took me about 5-10 minutes to disassemble the bottom of the laptop. The battery life is a lot better then the GE60 and GS60 as to exact times haven't really tested the laptop that much just a few hours of playing with it before giving it to my friend as he is paying me back. Anyway from my hands on with it and what my friend said while using it the GE62 is really an amazing laptop. I like my GS60 with the 970M better as it's lighter and feels more mobile to me which I need. One thing to note the GE62 has an amazing touchpad much better then the GS60 as it has the real buttons and is a synaptic based touchpad not an elan.

Mike - how about the fan noise with this compared to the ghost pro with 970m?
Having a hard time deciding between these two models. -
The fan noise isn't an issue for me. Seems to be less then my GS60 but I bought the GE62 for a friend so didn't play with it too much before handing it off. The turbo fan button can be a bit loud but that's to be expected.

It is an interesting cooling setup and layout.
-
Has anybody found a review that includes CPU/GPU temps under heavy load? An opened up bottom plate shot would be nice too.
-
-
That would be the bottom plate I was looking for, thanks!

Where is the GE72 already

I am actually curious, what is the market purpose of the ge72, when there is already the gt72? are you competing with yourselves over similar products? i feel the gt70/gt72/ge72 all serve the same market audience.
-
Long answer: The idea is that the GE72 starts at $1,499 and is thinner and lighter than the GT72. It caps at 2 SSD's and 16gb ram with a dvd drive. If you are looking for something affordiable and portable then the GE72 is your choice. The GT72 is heavier and thicker than the GE72 and comes in a huge number of different configurations ranging in price from $1,699 (though I think the $1699 one is discontinued so really it is $1,999) to $3,300. It has twice the potential of the GE72 in terms of storage and ram and it can come with a better GPU and CPU if you want to fork out the cash for it. Also, the GT72 pro has a blu-ray drive instead of a dvd drive. The lowest end GT72 has the same specs as the GE72 but costs $200 more. If you have no plans to upgrade the system and portability is more important than upgradability the GE72 is a better choice. If you want something you can tinker with and don't mind the added size, weight, and price then the GT72 is best for you. -

Ok, First post here so I can try and help out my fellow computer buyers! I searched and searched for information on the Ge62, but reviews were scarce since it is so new. I was between this and and the Sager 8651, and I ended up going for the MSI. Just had a good feeling about it. This is my first higher end laptop, with my last portable being a Toshiba Satellite that served me well for its intended purpose of school stuff/movies etc. Mostly a desktop kind of guy, but I'm deploying and a desktop is not an option. I wanted something that i can game on, but I didn't need a top end 3000 laptop. This seemed to hit the right spot between bang for the buck and decent quality specs.
My laptop arrived today and I've been tinkering with it the last couple of hours, feel free to shoot me any questions that you may have. Some of the main things I couldn't find solid answers to were temperatures both standard and under stress, fan noise, and a few others. Experience thus far has been limited but here are my initial impressions:
-Screen looks very nice. its LOADS better than my former laptop in color, clarity, and viewing angles. Picture is great in all normal day to day use.
-Unit is surprisingly quiet. with dual fans I was worried, but under normal use its really not bad. That said, you turn on the turbo fan button, hit 5500rpm, and this thing sounds like its going to take off! Cools like a champ though, you can FEEL the air getting pushed in the back. Once I get some more games downloaded and whatnot, I'll post exact temps.
-Unit is warm, but not super hot. warmest spot seems to be the front left, kind of where my left palm rests when I type. A little strange since there is a noticeable temp different with my left and right hands. Currently browsing, downloading some games off Steam, messing around on Facebook and the CPU is at 51C. will do more testing in game environment tomorrow.
-Speakers are crazy loud. Of all things, this surprised me probably the most. they literally made me jump when I played them the first time. Bass is lacking, but it is what it is.
-Keyboard is very nice to look at, keys are nice to the touch and more tactile than most I've messed with. That being said, they are a bit small. I've got big hands and its taking me a bit to get used to it.I would almost rather lose the numpad and end up with larger keys, but I'll probably get used to it.
-Jumped on Path of Exile(my main game) Tomb Raider, and Civ Beyond Earth all running GREAT. will get some Frames, Temps, etc later on more intense games.
Thus far, even though I'm still getting everything set up to my liking and learning some stuff with it, I'm feeling VERY solid with my purchase. at the price point I'm stoked about the value I feel like I'm getting here.Th4tRedhe4d, ryg, zizimonzter and 1 other person like this. -

Screen flex is a different story. There is def. some flex to the screen if you are moving it from the corners. I would recommend opening it with two hands or at least with one hand from the middle. That said, the top clamshell of the laptop is much thinner than any other laptop I have had, so maybe I am just not used to it. Hinges feel nice, body feels nice. All in all I think its very solid and will not be worried about being overly gentle with it.
Didn't have time to do much testing yesterday. I did play Path of Exile for around an hour, the max that I observed the Temperature was 54C on the GPU and 67C CPU with the fan running at a pretty quiet 3800RPM. I think thats pretty great. I still have not seen the CPU temp get over 75C doing anything, even when multitasking, doing downloads, watching a youtube video, multiple windows open, etc.Th4tRedhe4d likes this. -

Why does the best buy version not include dvd drive and its only upgradable to 12gb and not 16gb?? I thought there were only 2 versions. The pro and the regular. -

Well, there is the cheaper version with the FHD-panel, too. But even that is priced at 1500 €, which can get you a vastly better laptop with a 970M already.
And as usual, it's quite loud and still rather hot. -
I'm playing max Payne 2 , and it works well. Except for the explosions parts. When that happens the game lags until the explosion is over. Why can't the laptop handle this old game?
-
Kevin@GenTechPC Company Representative
What graphics settings did you set to? Try medium settings without other changes, see what happens. -
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Are there any features like PhysX enabled, that will create huge loads during explosions.
Msi ge62/ge72 965m/970m + dual fans !
