hey inferno,
how much battery life did your gx620 get on regular usage.
-
Anywhere from 2H 20M to 2H 40M, that's with the screen at 60% brightness, bluetooth/camera off, wifi on, and browsing the internet.
-
thats pretty good. what about gaming?
Hope I get that from the GT627. Still undecided if I should get the gx620 instead.
My paypal e-check wont clear for a few days so i still have time to cancel -
I'm sure the GT627 can at least match that time, since it's supposed to have a 9 cell battery to offset the higher power consumption of the video card.
-
im going to try the ati 3870 as soon as i get my hands on the updated 4870's coming. it may be a while still but ill for sure report back about how that worked if no one else has yet..

The only thing we still haven't confirmed at this time, is that if the MXM cards are interchangeable amongst the MSI laptops or not. Anyone want to sell me the HD 3850 from the GT735?

Hi
Can you tell me what are your temperatures in HWMonitor i IDLE?
I don`t know why but since few days my fan is always on second speed...
My temperatures are:
CPU 42
GPU 56-59
HDD 39
Fan goes on first speed with GPU 55... (and it`s hard to make - battery saving mode and so on)
Are they really so high that the fan must go faster? And why earlier wasn`t that so?
What can I do?
Edit:
After 10minutes of playing COD4 i get:
Max CPU 90
Max GPU 88
Isn`t that too high?? -
-
The only temperature that looks remotely normal is your hard drive. Everything else is way too high; my 9600M GT max temperatures don't even hit your minimum...about same thing for the CPU. I think someone forgot to put thermal compound on your heatsink.
-
The barebone arrived while I was at work, so I just got the chance to have a look at it and will start swapping parts. I'll make myself a one-off GX-1651 then, but the primary purpose of this is to get the WSXGA+ screen from the 620 to replace the cheap WXGA one on the 1651. I also want the MSI logo below the screen, so the front LCD casing will be switched, and I think the 1651's touch controls are pretty bland, so that will be removed in favor of the 620's.
-
Here's what I ended up with:
It's pretty much identical to the GX620-001US at this point, with the exception of the missing MSI logo on the back LCD casing, the red accents on the touch panel and the black stripe that runs across the back of the LCD casing. Looks much more professional, with a hint of style, no? -
vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
wow so u switched out the parts already? it looks cool only difference i see is..wait i don't see a difference lol besides matching up the keyboard layout, you put the 1651 parts into your gx620 right?
-
Maybe you're looking at an older model?
Notebookcheck lists the 9600M GT as a class 2 GPU with GDDR3 VRAM.
I know these posts are from way earlier in the thread, but I started reading the thread, and decided to skip to the end since there were 27 pages.
Anyway, I'm a little confused, why do some GX620's have red trim and red touch controls and others are silver/blue trim?
I'm guessing the silver/blue trimed models are more recent?
And what's wrong with the webcam? It says 2.0mp? (Again, maybe older GX620?)
Also, I'm looking at the GX620-001US on amazon for $949. It has the bland touch controls, where I would prefer that stylish blue strip.
The thing is, the amazon model is the same as the newegg model, but they both say they're GX620-001US. I suppose the bland one is the 1651 barebone you guys are talking about? Which chassis can I expect if I order from amazon, the plain 1651 or the blue trim?
Here's what I mean:

Again, I'm looking at the GX620-001US. Is this a new version of the GX620?
Could someone please post the Microsoft Experience Index for the GX620-001US?
Also, what is this 'keyboard flexing/tactility'? I guess is that a flaw that some laptops have, a sign of poor construction? Should I avoid the GX620 because of it?
Many thanks,
LC -
The color theme doesn't necessarily signify if you're getting a newer or older version of the GX620. It's just a variety in the styling. Keyboard flexing when you press a key down and you feel the support underneath it 'give'. Many laptops have it, and it's hard to avoid it. My HP has a bad case of it near the middle of the keyboard, my previous GX620 had a little, and the Macbook Pro I had, had this issue as well. It's bad on some, not too bad on others.
-
Oh great news, fellow GX620/MS-1651 owners. These laptops can use MXM III cards. This is in my new MS-1651; installed the card and the heatsink, turned it on and it loaded up Vista normally, no issues at all. Apparently my old GX620's mainboard was bad.
I just need to run 3DMark06 to make sure it's performing properly, and the only uncertainties I have at the moment is whether the DVI/HDMI ports work or not. As you can also see, SCM and the ECO/Turbo mode works fine under Vista 64 as well. -
wow that looks 100% better imo. i dont like the red at all personally the silver is so much nicer. personally i like the more bland touch buttons though myself
-
wow sweet ill be ordering up a 3870 to drop in mine then!!
how is the display? i have not had a chance to fire up the one i have here yet. good bad?? the wsxga i mean -
-
im going to find out if the 3870's are mxm3 for sure or not and if they are ill post and let you guys know. that would be a great upgrade i think...
-
The ones from the OCZ Whitebook (Arima W840?) are definitely MXM III. My advice for those who wants to put a high-end video card in their laptop is to get a 120W AC adapter (ASUS G50VT's work perfectly), and get ready to be creative, because you will have to find a way to mount the heatsink. Although I'm quite happy to know that our laptops can take advantage of high-end cards, I'll stick with the MXM II's for heat and battery life concerns.
-
About the silver trim, its not a big deal, I would just prefer it to the rather bland one in the amazon picture, its the internals that really count, and for that price that is AWESOME!
So pretty much EVERYTHING on this can be upgraded? CPU, RAM, HDD, and GPU?
Nice. -
-
For my gx620 what drivers for the 9600gt should I download? The ones from the nvidia site or from laptopvideo2go? Which give better performance?
Also If I want to upgrade to Vista64, is ordering the DVD from microsoft for $10 the best thing to do?
One last thing. If I upgrade to 64 from 32 vista will it wipe out everything I have installed so far? -
Not to nag, but I would still appreciate if someone could post the Experience Index rating, thanks.
Also, does anyone know if the 4850/4870s are MXM II/MXM III? Or would they take too much power and generate too much heat?
Thanks

Just recently started reading this message thread, like to thank you and everyone for all your contributions, its been very informative and helpful !
Helped me decide on which notebook to purchase, IMO best value gaming for the price.
Just recently won the auction on Ebay for a new MSI GX620-001US NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 2.26GHz @ 700 USD...yayyy, be here Friday.
It was between this lappy and Asus G50Vt-X1 at Best Buy for 950 USD.
In the end I took the savings of +250 USD..haha..will miss out on the
7200 RPM HD (some newegg reviewers claim they have received a 7200 RPM HD with there GX620-001US), NVIDIA GeForce 9800M GS, & .2 smaller screen.
MSI Quality issue is a concern, but with the 1 year maunufactures warranty plus another 1 year from the credit company issuer, I'll take my chances.
This might be a bit late on your dead GPU, I would have tried to talk with the NVIDIA company to see if they would replace your non-functioning GPU, worth a shot.
Best Wishes! -

hey inferno i just realize your keyboard layout for the 1651 is different than mine. Take a look at yours and mine again. My right shift is a bit, just a bit longer than your right shift, and the 0 on the numpad is shorter than yours. you got the WSXGA+verison right? aka ID2.
-
you have the newer style keyboard they changed them out from the older style, imo these seem so far to be great quality build wise and im a hard person to please.
-
-
Does any body know if the GX620-001US sold at newegg come with a 7200rpm HDD or a 5400rpm HDD?
http://www.newegg.com/Store/BrandSubCategory.aspx?Brand=1312&SubCategory=32&name=MSI-Laptops-Notebooks -
that gives me no results from that link
-
This is the Hd i have in mine i bought from NewEgg.
http://www.westerndigital.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=482 -
^^ that one is 7200 rpm but im not sure if it comes with the black version or not from msi already installed
-
hmm...
I was looking into this notebook and I love the specs on the GX620. Would it be wise to buy this notebook now or should I wait for the GX623 (the one with the ATi 4670)?
Does anybody have any idea about the pricing of the GX623 or when it is coming out?
Thanks -

-
id love the red style keyboard if you have one..
what driver is everyone using for the touchpad. there is none listed on msi web site from what i was able to tell. i called today but didnt get a call back yet about some other stuff. figured id see if anyone was using synaptics or what? i hate the regular windows driver -
vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
i never installed any for the touchpad it works just fine? even the side scrolling works. for me at least.
-
i like the multi tap stuff and extras the synaptics come with i was hoping they worked on this. not sure though guess ill find out lol
-
When I had my 1651, I just installed the synaptics trackpad driver, so that I could turn off some of the annoying tap "features" as they drive me nuts since I accidentally activate them all of the time.
-
vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
you can disable the touchpad by Fn+F3 on the 1651
-
i dont want to disable it i want the extra features though from the synaptics. like the two and three finger tapping etc
-
vinceboiii Animals are friends, not food.
oh yeah i know, i was replying to what cutterjohn said haha sorry.
-
The scrolling on the trackpad was kind of annoying at first as well, but I sort of got used to the vertical, the horizontal was another story, but I stopped poking it since it was going back anyways.
Actually IIRC I did hit Fn+F3 and it didn't seem to disable the trackpad under XP... Didn't try it with a real mouse installed as normally I wouldn't be lugging around a mouse with me, and would only have it at home, and then likely only if I was trying a FPS online as the trackpad seemed to be good enough for Stalker in SP, but sucked horribly when trying TFC/DoD/etc. online. (I still need to buy a stock of semi-cheap but useful mice soonish, but I guess if I order the nb from newegg I'll just buy a bunch of mice from them too when I order the nb.) -
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductReview.aspx?Item=N82E16834152086
Also, MSI's specs for this model indicate a 5400 rpm hard drive but mine came with a Western Digital 3200BEKT, which is a 7200 rpm drive. I wondered why it was benchmarking so fast! -

Another question, does it have a glossy or matte screen? -
