@Phoenix, Samsung has launched the new 970 PRO gives utmost performance enabled by Samsung's NVMe SSD the speed read/write speeds up to 3,500/2,700 MB/s, the question is as per your experience will MSI GT75 i9 support these speed? is it worth buying?

1TB only, screw that. I have 3x 2TB 960 PROs and that's the bare minimum in terms of space for me. I don't care about SSD speeds anymore they are all super fast, give me teh st0r4g3 br4h!

Can be useful if you are within the 1-3% who need the max speed. Read the final conclusion in the review of 970 EVO. And it’s even slower than 970 Pro http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...ews-and-advice.429972/page-1127#post-10717192

If I give you 2 machines, one with a 3 year old SSD, not even NVMe, and a brand new spanking NVMe 960 PRO then tell you to identify which is which, trust me, you wouldn't be able to tell. Once you're in the SSD category of speed, the only way you can tell the difference between one SSD and the other is synthetic benchmarks.

Want more detail? If you look at the numbers, usually these new NVMe SSDs have 5 times or more the speed in sequential read/write speeds. Sequential speeds only affect large chunks of data, for example, if you were to copy a 10 GB file from one partition to the other or perhaps encode a a large video. That's great for certain workloads but if we look at the random 4K read/write speeds, the newer SSDs are barely faster than the old ones. The 4K random Data is where that OS snappiness and speed comes from as the OS comprises of hundreds of small files that make it all work together which is why HDDs feel super slow because their random 4K read/write speeds are pathetic

Thus, at this day an age, to me at least, and to any power user, the only factor that we should consider is storage capacity and maybe price. We've been stuck at the 1TB barrier for SSDs for ages and just recently got 2TB for the m.2 NVMe drives. so giving me a slightly faster 970 Pro with half the capacity is not going to temp me in any way, shape, or form. The first thing I look at when a new SSD is released is the capacity, hoping to one day see 4TB or more. The moment I see less, I close the review.

Very clear dood & totally agree with you the capacity is very important, and I hope with you in some day see 4-12TB M.2. Cheers.

sweet, welcome to the HIDevolution Gaming Team then. Lemme know when you get it if you want me to tweak it for you. these are the Phoenix Magical Tweaks:

1- Uninstallation of all the Windows Store Garbage Apps like 3D Paint, Print 3D, Alarms & Clock, Feedback Hub, Maps, Groove Music, News, Weather, etc.
2- Removing all Windows 10 Privacy Invasion stuff like Telemetry, sending your keystrokes to Microsoft, automatically installing suggested apps in the background, allowing Microsoft to conduct experiments on your laptop, disabling automatic driver updates through Windows updates, disabling Windows 10 ads, disabling Cortana, Cloud Search etc.
3- Removal of nVIDIA and Intel Telemetry
4- Adjusting a lot of options in PC Settings like disabling Windows Tablet Mode (you have a laptop not a tablet), disabling suggestions appearing in the start menu, disabling automatically connecting to Paid WiFi Hotspots, disabling Game DVR which reduced performance in games, and a lot more.
5- Replacing Cortana with a much better search tool that finds results instantly called Everything which finds any file you want as soon as you start typing even a few letters of its name and it doesn't even rely on the Windows Indexing Service to do this!
6- Restoring the classic Windows Photo Viewer
7- Restoring the Classic Windows 7 Start Menu
8- Removal of the new and useless 3D Objects Folder that appears when you open "Computer"
9- Completely disabling Windows Defender from its roots (including all scheduled tasks and startup files) for those who want to install their own AV. ESET NOD32 Antivirus is highly recommended if you want the utmost security with the least system performance impact.
10- Updating all drivers to the latest versions in case they weren't up to date.
11- Disabling the performance hit that is caused by the Meltdown and Spectre patches recently released by Microsoft (optional, only if you don't mind having this security vulnerability and would rather have your CPU's full performance back)
12- Overprovisioning your SSD anywhere between 10-20% depending on how much space you can spare to ensure optimal and consistent performance at all times.
13- Blocking the Google Chrome Software Reporter Tool (which causes a high system load when it is scanning files)
    14- Updating all drivers
15- Creating a system restoration image using Macrium Reflect

So this happened and I pulled the trigger on the MSI GE73VR RGB from HIDevolution. The ordering process was pretty much straight forward as I already knew what I wanted.

Furthermore after speak with Donald for 45 minutes on an International long distance call I actually was surprised that I ended up saving few bucks, as he cleared up few things that I was not sure about after listening carefully to my requirements and intended use of the laptop !

Thank you Donald, and to HIDevolution as a company specifically for having an easy straight forward payment method for International customers. It greatly eliminates the headache of the wire transfer process that I have experienced in the past from other online retailers in the US and enables us to use our locally issued credit card that are linked to our PayPal account.

I Below are the exact specs

    o 17.3" FHD (1920*1080), 120Hz 3ms Wideview 94%NTSC Color Anti-Glare
o Display professionally calibrated w/ profile saved to USB drive
o Quality check and give me a panel with minimal backlight bleed
o 30 Days Zero Defective Pixel Warranty (perfect panel guarantee)
    o NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 w/ 8GB GDDR5
    o Intel® 8th Generation Coffee Lake Core™ i7-8750H 6 Core - 12 Thread Processor, 2.2 GHz (Max Turbo Frequency 4.1 GHz), 9MB Smart Cache
o Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut on CPU + GPU, and Fujipoly Extreme Thermal Pads on heat sensitive surfaces
    o 16GB Dual Channel DDR4/2400MHz (2 x 8GB)
    o HIDevolution Approved 512GB M.2 SATA 6Gb/s SSD
    o 1TB Seagate FireCuda Gaming 7mm SSHD
    o Intel® Wireless-AC 9560 802.11 ac/a/b/g/n 2x2 NGFF w/ Bluetooth 5.0
    o Genuine Windows® 10 Pro, 64bit, English - $130.00
o Clean Install of Windows 10 including 32GB Clean Install Flash
o UK 6 Ft Power Cord
o Steel Series per-Key RGB with Anti-Ghost key+ silver lining
o MSI Front Lid Logo Color White (Standard)

Reasons for my purchase at this time:
I no longer need a bulky desktop replacement size laptop, As my usage habits changed over the past 4 years and my daily driver systems today are a GTX 1080 desktop and a GTX 1070 Ti desktop.

I wanted a laptop that runs cool, has a slimmer profile and excellent and properly spaced keyboard. I considered some of the soon to be released systems with 144hz screen and G-Sync. At the same time, I did not want to compromise on my gaming experience so I picked the 17.3 inch model. Even though I seriously considered the 15.6 inch for some time.

Awesome choice and specs bro! You are going to love the screen and keyboard most of all. I also considered the ASUS 144hz screen laptop but from the feedback I got is that the MSI has much better cooling and from my past experience of owning many ASUS laptops that all had to be refunded to an issue here or there, you made the right choice!

I will PM you my cell phone number now my UAE brother.

Mine has already shipped and should reach here by Sunday. Let me know when you get yours if you want me to tweak your laptop. Here are the Phoenix Tweaks:

How much notice do you need to do tweaks?
Or is there a step by step guide for each tweak as I'm not exactly a novice ;)

Well as those who saw my thread on here know-at the end of it I was going to get the GT75 8RG TITAN 094, but I discovered that it had that horribly cumbersom power supply with the 2 huge power bricks + a power converter and that pretty much killed it for me.

Long story short I've got a slight physical disability that affects my left knee and it's part of the reason I need laptops instead of desktop PCs...sitting with my knee bent at a desk for extended periods of time can be extremely painful, so I game on the couch with my legs straight out and my laptop on my lap, because my knee doesnt hurt when its not bent. During my laptop gaming years wrangling 1 power brick has been annoying enough hanging off the couch, I cannot even imagine how I would fight with and drag around 2...let alone take the laptop + 2 huge power bricks + power converter anywhere with me.

So with the help of Donald at HIDevolution I ended up going with my original choice I opened the thread for opinions on:

    The MSI GT75 8RG TITAN 056
    * With a clean install
    * 500G Samsung 960 Evo SSD
    * 32Gigs Gskil Ripjaws RAM
    * 2TB Seagate HDD
    * Grizzly Conductonaut +the fujipoly thermal pads (I asked for a thermal test before and after repaste as recommended here, but Donald let me know they don't do that). So I won't officially know what if any improvement I will get, but Donald assured me it'd be around 10c.

I'm hoping @Phoenix that you can help me on Team Viewer when it arrives? I saw on here you recommended taking an image first before connecting to the internet with MSI Burn Recovery...since I'm getting the clean install though, I'm not sure if I'm going to have that...because I saw someone else say they had a clean install and didn't have MSI Burn Recovery because of it.

If this is the case, what do you recommend I do-download MSI Burn Recovery with my old laptop onto a flash drive and upload it onto the new laptop from the flash drive?

    Congratulations!

I would change the Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut to Thermal Grizzly Conductonaut if I were you as Kryonaut is horrible unless you got confused as to what you actually ordered because I don't think HIDevolution offers that crappy Kryonaut paste.

Secondly, you don't need to take any image, if you have a clean install, then it's a clean install so there is no image to be taken.

If you want to have the image for future use anyway, you can download it here but do that now because the file upload won't last for long: MSI GT75 Titan 8RG Recovery Image (Can be used on most MSI laptops)

You can burn that image onto a USB Flash disk so if you ever plan on selling the laptop, you can return it back to factory state.

The tweaking session will take anywhere between 2-4 hours so make sure you have enough time on your hand.

Also, you will need a fast internet connection. I cannot work with a slow connection.

when you receive your laptop, you will be greeted by the Windows 10 Setup Wizard and you will hear Ms. Cortana speaking, when you are prompted to login to your wireless network, do not do that otherwise you will be forced to sign in with a Microsoft Account, instead, click skip on the bottom left and proceed by entering a username for your computer and so forth.

Once you're on your desktop, now you can connect to the internet. Download TeamViewer and install it from this link: https://www.teamviewer.com/en/download/windows/

then come to the forums and tag me and I'll then send you a private message so we can arrange a time to do the tweaking. All you will need is to run TeamViewer, it will give you a username and ID which you can then pass on to me so I can login to your laptop temporarily to do the tweaks.

Oh yes-I just checked it, I actually did get Conductonaut! :) They don't offer kryo lol, you were right. I'll edit my post.

Wow- 2 to 4 hours! How do you find the time to do this for everyone?? You're awesome!

As far as internet speeds...what is the slowest connection that you would be able to work with? I only get 22mb/s...with that speed I never have to buffer videos that I watch in HD, but not sure if that's any indicator on if that'd be too slow for you. Thank you so much @Phoenix Can't wait to hear back and to get my beautiful machine going!

My taptop is here. The fun starts now but first I am islnstalling the SSDs on my old GT73 which I sold to @Dr. AMK and installing the OS with the Phoenix tweaks as he’s number one on my priority list due to his patience waiting for me to ship his taptop.

Currently creating the recovery USB for him

Sorry to hijack the thread, I live in the UK and recently bought a Dell laptop, and would also like the MSIs but there was no retailer that I could find to buy from so I picked the Dell that gave me huge choice in configuration. The various laptop retailers only sell a few MSI models and you cannot customise at all, it is what it is. I see from this thread that you guys have bought from a US firm - is this the only recourse? Live in UK and buy from the US? How about warranty, service etc? many thanks

Well most of us are getting it from HIDevolution because of their extra cooling mods and superb warranty, customer service, and aftersales support.

Now, they do have a global warranty option which you can upgrade to and that covers shipping costs back and forth should you ever run into an issue which requires the laptop to be shipped over to them although from my past experience with MSI laptops, I've never needed the warranty, these things just work great out of the box. You might wanna email [email protected] to get the NBR Discount and also ask him if the warranty is transferable to MSI UK since MSI is an international company.

I'm In the UK - Got mine from www.saveonlaptops.co.uk - a trading name of www.box.co.uk

Laptops are "as is " I guess - I changed various bits in mine when I got it. PM if you want more details.

Warranty is standard 12 months but when you register the laptop online you get an extra 3 months.

Just getting ready to order the gs65, I'm overdue for an upgrade. How does everyone feel about getting 2 year extended warranties? This will be my first MSI. Ordering from hidevolution

I've just purchased a warranty extension which adds another 15 Months (1 year + 3 months) from a very nice man in Germany (Ebay was my friend) So I now have a warranty for 2 years and 3 months on my Raider. Ironically the hinges on my Gigabyte P34w failed at 2 years 2 months (warrranty was only two years - typical *rolls eyes*)

In short, if you can get an extension for a good price go for it.

I chose the msi gs65 stealth thin with 1070 maxq from xoticpc at first. But doing more research into other sellers, found hidevolution and despite them being a bit more expensive, their thermal conductants with the pads are what sold me especially with @Donald@HIDevolution being extremely understanding and helping me with my gs65 configs. Will be using it for moderate gaming and some school work.
Hey @Phoenix wanted to know if you can help tweak things up a bit faster when it arrives? Would love the laptop to be at the best and quickest. Preordered the laptop around the 16th and was extremely sad for the release fate being pushed back. Now just gotta wait till preproduction is done...the wait is killing me haha.

Hey man, congratulations! you made the right choice! The thermal grizzly conductonaut and fujipoly pads are a MUST on today's laptops due to how how the CPUs get s every degree you can know off with these upgrades is a plus. What use is a laptop if it doesn't work 100% even if you saved some money? Good job

For the tweaks, sure, I will PM you now so that the moment you get your laptop you can let me know and we can get you tweaked with the Super Phoenix Tweaks, I guarantee you will be blown away by the tweaks.

Sorry yet again to hijack an MSI thread, could anyone possibly take a look at this realistic use-case. I am running Windows 10, nothing much loaded except a game World of Warcraft. The laptop is an Alienware 17 R5 with 4K display, i9-8950HK, 32GB 2666MHz RAM and GTX-1080. While running a game, the CPU is not overly utilised, around 20% and even less, the GPU runs smoothly at 70C and 170W, but the CPU keeps throttling when it gets hot and the PCH keeps getting hotter, at 93C now and rising slowly. I attach a screen shot of what it looks like with the sensors on display. The fans are full blast and quite noisy and the keyboard is HOT at 51C in places (right shift key) for example. The SSD (512GB) also got hot for a while at 93C, more typically spends its time at 75C and it's not being thrashed at all. The laptop sits with its back raised on a Mastercooler U3 Plus base, with no fans however.

Can the MSI do better? I have asked for a refund from Dell and am free to buy anything so would like to evaluate the options.

I'd suggest you to switch to Clevo's or MSI (if you want mechanical keyboard and great audio) if you want great out the box thermal performance on stock paste. You see AW fans ramp up very slowly and that raises the temps quickly and almost impossible to cool down unless you turn on CPU performance mode and full fan speeds at stock fans. They decided to cut corners at every thing or parts which is a major disappointment for me.

Hello all, after hundreds of hours spent trying to find a good, well-rounded laptop I ordered a MSI GT72VR 6RE 289ES Dominator Pro Tobii.

It's my first laptop, I'm very excited but. I hope it'll work well.

I'll tell you more when the laptop arrives.
