what do you all mean by cool or hot? I know all laptops have some sort of warmth, especially high performance ones...my first laptop, don't really have a basis for judgement, can someone explain this a little bit?

Mine by the way, is warmer than I'd like, but then again, I've never owned a laptop before!

You can check your temperatures with programs like this http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php

Because of poor design some laptops run very hot (HP DV5T is one example) while others run very cool even though the hardware inside is almost exactly the same (looks like the MSI runs cooler)

I was running COD4 on full with 1680x1050, but there was a slight stuttering, I'd say like 25-30 FPS which is playable, but annoying so i turned it back down. I'm running Oblivion right now and I'll give some feedback on that... Wow I'm almost through the Underground level and I haven't seen any lag on Full everything 8XAA 1200x800 Res. I'm incredibly impressed. I've got to go to class, but I have a feeling areas with alot of grass or water might make it stutter a little.

Yes they should. In fact that's what I did for mine. I knew I wouldn't be home so I called before the first delivery and had them hold it. I would call them as soon as you can and give them either the tracking number, or the number on the UPS form they stuck to your door. If call today you can probably schedule a pick up for tomorrow.

Yeah that can happen - can you speak to an actual human and not a machine? In the US I dial 1 800 PICK UPS; not sure if that works in Canada. If you speak with them you may be able to pick it up in the evening if the center is still open. It is probably taking a ride on a UPS truck around your hometown now and they say tomorrow because the drivers get back pretty late.

Never know... Doesn't seem like they're making any progress on mines. Still @ the airport, though UPS may not have updated.

BTW, am I supposed to pay taxes to the UPS guy?

Yeah. You can do it when he comes to the door. They have those mobile credit card scanner things if thats how you want to pay. I'm pretty sure the tracking page updates automatically. Some guy receives it, scans the bar code, and the system automatically updates the website.

If its automatic and instant, they either forgot to scan or I'm screwed over and it hasn't even been moved from the airport yet. Still says import scan as the latest update..

Scheduled delivery is still 17/09/2008, so thats a good thing. If they decide its going to be delivered tomorrow, there will be an update telling me so :) (change scheduled delivery to the 18th), but that update may come soon -_-

Customs people are fans of "random checking". Maybe they're just taking a look. Maybe that customs checkpoint is backlogged, who knows. I'm sure UPS will still make their 3 day time frame.

Alright, first impressions: LIGHT!! Much smaller than my dad's Insipron 6000 and 6400. Keyboard has some flex, but minimal and only noticable when pressing very hard. Hinges are extremely strong.
Once I find my camera's USB, i'll upload my first pictures.

K, now the stupid part: I can't open the bottom panel!! Can someone help me? :p. Don't know which screw to remove, but it isn't coming off!

Remove the screws indicated by the two red dots, get a flat head screw driver and pry the recess in the casing above the lower red dot and it'll come off.

Got it to work now, thanks :).. I was scared of pulling on it, felt like the piece of plastic was going to snap!

I don't like the way it feels when I'm putting it back .. got the impression those little things that snap in on the side is going to break one of these days.

Screen: excellent quality, but leaks a bit of light on the bottom :(. Once I get the OS going, I"ll see if the amount is acceptable or not.

Palmrest/Lid (aluminum): fingerpriint magnet, period. and hard to remove as well :(. however, the fingerprints are not too noticable

Can't really test any further, but chassis has no flex.

Looking for my camera usb!! If I could find it, got quite a few pics
PS. Those warranty void if tampered stickers must suck :(

    Hi guys,

Recent recipient of the MS-1651 ... are you HAPPY with the laptop!?!?

Is it what you thought it is going to be?

Does it look as nice in person as it does in the pictures?

    Thanks,

    G! :)

    yes very happy!
It looks really really good in person, very classy and clean design. Not gaudy. Great finish! I love the matte screen! To me its very speedy, great built, quiet, fairly cool to the touch. Very pleased. Great experience with Powernotebooks and Donald. So far so good...
I know I sound like a commercial but its my first laptop and I am giddy with delight! I also bought a little Logitech VX Nano to use with it. So far I am really liking the combination...

Theres a surplus discount store here called 'Factory Direct'. I got a Microsoft wireless laser mouse (don't know the model) for $9 CAD lol. The downside is i'm pretty sure its resolution is only 400dpi. The VX Nano has twice that.

IC :p. Idk what the DPI of my memory mouse is, but it's pretty cool with 1gb of uber laggy memory on its receiver. It is extremely cute, and while small, I think is comfortable to use :D

Gonwk, I'm incredibly happy with the performance I'm getting out of it, it's played all the games I've thrown at it and done very well in all the performance tests I've done. I'll be happier when I actually get the one I ordered, but I'm still impressed with the power that this one has.

It's very classy, and I really like the fact that the cover is brushed aluminum without any decals. I think it makes it look more subtle, which, in my opinion, is always good.

If you aren't looking to play any games, I'd suggest something a little cheaper, and if you're looking to play games like Crysis on full settings, I'd suggest something a little more expensive. This is a very, very nice median between the two.

When I have mine this weekend, I'll spend some time checking out the other features like HDMI, card-reader, and battery life.

Basically, it's everything I wanted, plus. I'm impressed by performance and aesthetic, and I'm happy with the features and size/weight. Customer service is excellent as well, I was shipped the wrong laptop and the proper one will be here by Friday, and they're letting me keep this one until it does.

What can I say, you have to find beauty in these things. (Yes, that was BS).

Did yours come with a cloth thing that said "cover the keyboard with this sponge to avoid scratches on the screen"?

I mean they can't expect us to always use that...

Got mine today at noon. UPS found it :) I haven't had a chance to boot it up yet, I only took it out and looked at it. I had to go to class and eat lunch. In a few hours I'll install windows :) Is there any specific order the drivers should be installed in? Also, anyone gotten wireless and sound to work in Ubuntu? Finally, are there any XP drivers out their?

BenBronco, It runs very cool, during like an hour of COD 4 I ran HWMonitor and got a max of 58 Degrees on the CPU, 71 Degrees on the GPU, and 43 on the HDD. It was still cool to the touch everywhere except for directly over the GPU, which was a little warm. This was on a desk, so maybe with less ventilation it might be worse, I haven't tried.

How did you turn wireless on? Also, what kind of cards can the card reader read? I'm worried because it's one slot, I'm afraid pushing the wrong card in will break it, and even not sure about how fitting the RIGHT card into it will work..... Also, when I got it I took the little piece of plastic out of the card reader (the thing meant to protect it) and I can't for the life of me get it back in!

Wireless, Bluetooth, Camera, and a user definable button are along the top by the Power button. Wireless is a little radar dish thing.
