Well...I just got a chance to lay eyes (and hands) on an on-display MSI GT73 VR Titan Pro today at a local Fry's Electronics (I'm on a LONG business trip/assignment). It wasn't as heavy as I expected, but the footprint was bigger than I envisioned. That said, I have been looking for tactical-style backpacks that will fit the beast, and frankly...so far only the 5.11 Tactical Rush 72 and **possibly** the GoRuck GR2 40L. The yoke-style should straps are nice on the 72. I am not a fan of gaming laptop packs...so I'm avoiding those. The Everki wouldn't be so bad...if it didn't have an international distress orange interior. Also have looked at the Slappa line...The jury is still out on this topic. Anyone using a tactical backpack with their GT73?

Because I am an IDIOT. For whatever reason, I wasn't thinking of "Drivers" in the IT/computer sense...I was thinking in terms of the "Porsche Cayman S Drivers" sense. STOOPID, I know...

Well size is the same but it is for "MS-17A2" and that new mobo might have some minor changes which could kill a GT73VR.

    Classical MSI swiss Cheese.......

**** you may see from the MSI Drivers Team:

    - Drivers or utilities randomly disappearing.........then after a few days......the same version is reposted
    - Newly released drivers with a newer date but an older version number
    - IRST Application with a new driver version but the IRST INF Drivers only for OS installation with an older version
    - Ancient VGA and SteelSeries Keyboard drivers
    - Never update the drivers, they only update the utilities once in a while for a particular model

The best drivers site/team is ASUS, as much as I hate that brand, followed by Dellienware

Acer and HP and MSI SUCK! Clevo........don't even get me started.......lately they post drivers with no version numbers and super slow 30-60 KB/s download speeds that constantly get disconnected

The only time I use manufacturer-supplied drivers/software is for pieces of hardware that are unique to that company. For instance Clevo Control Center for that brand, the Realtek/Nahimic audio bundle for the GT73VR, etc. For everything else, I use either what comes from Windows Update or a driver that comes from the specific part maker (Intel RST, NVIDIA, Killer wireless, et al).

All i want for Christmas is that mystical (mythical) unlocked EC firmware. @Phoenix Do you remember back in the main GT73VR thread, where some people got products back from MSI service centers, that said "Please Change Product name", in the Bios (marketing name) and in Dragon Center (along with missing Xboost option?).

I'm almost 100% entirely certain this is an unlocked (unlocked power limits) EC firmware, they probably installed it for testing and then forgot to remove it. Because when I contacted MSI begging (Politely) for it, they even admitted it exists.... (but refused to allow me to "Test" it).

Because if you look in AMIBCP, in the Bios section, the marketing name there is "please change product name". <--I kid you not.

Yes, yes yes, I'm still crying because i need this 230W AC power limit removed from my 7RE (because I have a 330W Power supply with a TDP modded GTX 1070); going past 230W total system draw causes EDP Other/PL2 throttling on the CPU.

(sorry I know this is the wrong section. I'm salty and depressed :(

Fair enough :) Please don't use that .112 firmware. It was designed for the HM chipset version of the GT73VR and has extra throttling and shutdown limitations because the HM chipset does not allow overclocking like the CM236/238 chipset does. You should revert back to .108, which is designed for our chipset. For one thing, the system will automatically shut down when CPU power draw exceeds 80W (especially at higher multipliers). Also PSys Max power doesn't work right at all (setting it to 2700 for example, forces instant throttling to 800 mhz as soon as the videocard gets put under load). The .108 version doesn't have any of these issues.

(you can force an instant 5 second shutdown by running Prime 95 small FFT with FMA3, 8 threads at 4.5 ghz; 20 second shutdown at 4.4 ghz). I don't know if this applies to the 1080 installed model vs the 1070 installed model (identical mainboard, EC sets absolute power limits based on what video card is installed, but that's for max AC power+hybrid battery cutoff), but it's smart not to take chances.

Thanks for the warning my friend. I actually reverted back to .108 a few days back as I have an issue, when I switch GPUs from the Intel one to the nVIDIA or vice versa, the system reboots but only shows a blank screen but I can see the HDD activity on and it does boot to Windows but the screen is blank. I then have to shutdown and startup again, then the screen would turn on properly. I thought it was the EC Firmware but even when I reverted back to .108, it's still the same so I guess it's the BIOS that's messed up

I'm bad with sigs but I'll try.
The "Black screen" is a bug which was only halfway fixed by MSI. To fix it you need to do the following steps (it's best if you have nothing running at startup that appear in the taskbar; programs like malwarebytes or other icons that appear at bottom right (system tray) are fine however:

    Black screen bug:
Caused by Loading User Defaults. Seems to alternate to "working" or "not working" if defaults are loaded again. Can also happen after a CMOS clear.

    To fix:
    1) Press GPU button, switch to integrated, reboot.
    2) press GPU button, switched to dedicated, reboot (this will trigger the black screen bug. If it does NOT, you're fine until it happens in the future).

    3) Black screen: Press this key combination: GPU switch button, ALT TAB, TAB, SPACE BAR.
This will focus the Mux switch window, switch to highlight the "reboot" button, spacebar will activate reboot button.
System will reboot, back to iGPU and screen.
    4) Enter Bios, click "Load user defaults", save, exit.

    5) Press GPU button, switch to dedicated.screen will work.

Now you should be able to switch freely without any more black screens, even in the unlocked Bios inside the Bios itself.

Or fried the soldered Cpu in his MSI taptop  @Phoenix  You can still use your smartphone for posting, you know. I have used my very small 4" BGA for posting from Islas Canarias long time :D It was a damn Hell but you have probably a bigger phone and you have younger eyes!! It's manageable.

Maybe tried WHQL drivers from green goblin. Still use my tried and tested Nokia's BGA phones.

    @Phoenix

watch out everyone, nahimic is ready to burn ur speakers again with a new update 2.5.19

    • Enhancements to avoid some installation, update and uninstallation issues.
    • Behavior enhancements when devices are disabled.
    • Implementation of an audio limiter that avoids cracking noises
    • The EQ values return to -12dB/+12dB (instead of -9dB/+9dB) - see 2.5.16 delivery note for more details.
    • The error message displayed is clearer after canceling an installation.
    • Games cannot be displayed twice in the App Manager anymore.
    • Launchpad and hotkey work as expected on 32bits OS.
    • Russian text appears correctly on the App Manager page.
    • It's not possible to enable the microphone loopback if it's disabled.

Important: You need Realtek 8192 Or C-MEDIA 1.15 or above to be fully functional.

Realtek 8192 is not available on their site and you'll probably find it on MSI site,
anyway here is the link for Realtek 8233

    Nahimic 2.5.19 Download

edit: apparently they posted 8233 driver instead of 8192 in that download page, so i guess you'll need that
