Just going of reviews from Bit-tech.net and Custom PC.

I think i know but i'm uncertain, but quickly What does RAID 0 do?
On the topic of the new machines, Dead posted a link and i've been checking out the 640 internals, there are some minor revisions.
GT627
GX640 (Apparently, dont think its fake either.)
Now i believe the Northbridge is now integrated with the CPU, hopefully, nice move.
Revision i can see, the pipe to the CPU has extended greatly (Allowing for more room for the heat to dissapate i believe), and the CPU's general coverage has been extended (Probably to cope with the extra W the northbridge functions carry within the CPU.)
I want some 740 internals now.
-
2 HDD running as one , and faster too !
-
Velociraptor in an MSI, + 3.5? inch HDD enclosure support! haha.
-
Check this out : http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/300-...Raptor-25-SATA-300-10000-rpm-16MB-Cache-42-ms
Pretty sure it's a mistake ..
Nice overhaul , thank god they decide to remove the pci-e next to the fan ! the 740 should be about same i think.
Took me 15mins to post this !!! my connection is doing me in -
Uhh dude, apparently, thats not a mistake?
Post this in hardware or check its there?
Checked on their official site, and its 2.5 inch!
15 minute to post? That connection must be slightly slow.
I posted about it in hardware dead, lets see if its already been posted and is indeed a 2.5 inch 10k drive, i've credited you also haha. -
It's been on their website for a while now .. still waiting for release date.
I will get in touch with scan and see what happens .. IF it's true , I'm ordering ! -
Haha, sorry Dead, bad news, its a server drive, bigger size and higher power requirements, it just wont work (Someone posted in the thread i just got up haha, i feel stupid.)
-
Damn !!! why did they put it in the notebook HDD department though ?
Been there for the past 3 months
EDIT : No need to feel stupid man ! it's scan's fault -
Haha, it is indeed stupid however the power requirements, our device would not cut it.

Some info on AMD Lano platform. -
Looking very very good but massive task in kicking Intel's butt in the mobile market
-
Definately, problem is, 2011 is far aware, so AMD have to hit them where intel will be in a years time.
-
Well if they manage to squeeze in a Evergreen GPU (that is, mobile 5870) in there, then I think it's a winner...
-
Think this conversation has come off track; so...
Cata, that picture you showed us was of the GX640, do you think the GX740 has undergone some changes to the cooling as well? -
Haha yep agreed Eriand, and yes, the GX740 will be in for a revision (Which i'm looking forward too, tonight i will be looking for hours!)
This is mainly down to the integrated northbridge being on die with the CPU, so essentially, the machine will hopefully be far cooler as the heatpipe wont have to deal with an independant northbridge + CPU, the CPU block/heatsink/cover will be larger, therefore able to spread heat nicely, there will actually be a rather large amount of space then :S, perhaps a second fan? ^^ They won't need it though.
Although i still think there is a possible chance of there being some NB functions on the chipset itself, i'm not to up to date with the latest gen of tech yet lol. -
Spill it!

You think anyone has the new GX740 already? How? o.o
-
Well someone had the GX640 so surely the big brothers out there
.
-
On the specs page it says the chipset for the GX640 says HM55, does this mean switchable graphics? Someone please tell me yes, yes it does. That will make my day, because this laptop looks sweet.
EDIT: also says HM55 on the GX740, but I guess that doesn't matter since it's an i7 QM -
No switch-able graphics when it comes to MSI I'm afraid.
-
Actually Dead, that depends if we get the i5 option or not
.
Remember more and more things are on chip now. -
Gief Nao!!
-
We just have to wait and see but I'm not expecting much from MSI tbh
i5 in a GX740 ? Hopefully not -
Unfortunately even with an HM55 and Arrandale it doesn't guarantee that switchable graphics will be supported, so you are right and we have to wait and see. -
Think about it dead, what did MSI originally release the GT725 with?
CES machines were definately running I5's, and like pin says, theres a small chance we will get the switchable graphics, but MSI seem to like covering their rears in terms of features (Port layouts, both dual and quad core releases, the dominant single fan of doom haha.)
Everywhere i search on the web says entry prices are 999 which i think are wow (Most likely GX640) but that should mean a dual GX740 shouldn't be to much higher,
I'd like the GX740 to have i7-6**?m to be honest, that dual core puts up with the low end i7-720m.
-
An extreme with the 58** is what I want
screw heat ! I can tame that
-
Haha, gunshots in the bottom of the laptop = unstoppable!
Lol i7-9** + 5890haha.
-
The GE series do support switchable graphics; not sure about the GX series... I just hope MSI releases a barebone model. -
I don't know whats wrong with i5?
Sure i7 > i5, but isn't i5 > P8600? -
Hmm, going to need to pull up some performance charts.
You know after thinking so hard and working so fast to win a homeworld match and then seing
homeworld32*.exe has stopped responsing comes up,
THATS FAIL! lol -
Facepalm the mofo!!!
-
Homeworld 1 is one hell of a hard game haha, it actually requires you to take full advantage of game mechanics, and it makes your brain literally throttle to max clocks until you can't take it, you have to save and quit lol.
Hmm i5, need a high end model of I5 cpu and then performance info on the p8600.
I'd imagine the new arcitecture brings it to the p9500 level, does it also have hyperthreadding? -
Not sure. I would check for some bechmarks on notebookcheck.com, but just a bit busy atm.
I think from memory when I was researching a new laptop for my parents I had the choice of i3 or P8700, and I'm pretty sure the latter was only slightly faster, which makes me assume an i5 would be better. -
Hmm reviews show the i5 desktop is very good in comparison to i7 desktop but i have a feeling mobile are quite...different lol.
i7-6** benchmarks, i think this is shirley as in the seller?
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=455347 -
No the P9500 doesn't support Hyper threading. The i5 does , all of em.
Yeah that's her/him or both -
Haha, nobody knows rofl!
I have a feeling its a he though.
He/She has i series ES i believe or qs? Can't remember, but they have i series haha. -
Cata, find any info on what was changed in the GX740?
-
Nope sorry Eriand
Seems no models out in the blue yet however i do have some rather interesting news,
See below:
Thats the GX640, but have you folks noticed the memory type in that screenshot.
Also temps are hotter then i'd expect :/ -
How many mini PCIe card slots do these MSI typically have?
-
The 725 has 3 at the bottom and 1 underneath the keyboard according to an old thread ...
The gx640 seems to have 3 according to cata's pic -
Cata, I don't see any temps on that GPUz screenie. How hot was it?
And the memory must be a bugit IS 1024MB
-
Up to 93 C
.
Could have been review 640
Maybe it will indeed have gddr3 due to gpu temps. -
:\ Damn I suddenly got cold feet. Do you blame me?
/Eri
EDIT: If it was the GX640 then take into consideration that it was GDDR3 and the 5850. The only diff is somewhat lowered clocks and GDDR3 instead of GDDR5. I think? -
Yeah, but remember its on a 128 bit bus, who knows, maybe thats a faulty unit, but i definately have hope in the big guys!
The effective clock runs into the 1000's so GDDR5 is definately much more pressure,, -
-
Really?
I thought the little 15 incher at present was running nearly as cool as the bigger brother?
I know i would not settle for a machine that wouldn't be able to handle furmark at reasonable temperatures (And the 1722 with a single fan can) so i'm slightly aware in that area, -
If the Asus is barely doing the job of keeping the 5870 cool with 2 fans, we should expect MSI do implement 2 fans.
-
To be fair, the ASUS GPU always gets hot with this mega hot tests (Especially G51), i find the MSI to be very stable, but i cannot predict that, a second fan would mean splitting the heatsink (YES!!! Individual pipes) and hopefully much cooler.
