hello guys, seems like i sont have choice of buying the msi gt729(they dont sell the 725 anymore on newegg canada...) so ill get it on xoticpc... but has there been any news about a release date? Cause I'm a little concerned about the date I'd get it(dont want it to be at christmas...-_-) I've research but couldn't find info... and I've been told that msi is good at pushing things... so i hope that if I pre-order it won't take too much time... anyway, thanks for any answer.

(the funny thinkg is that, ironically, it will be 100$ cheaper than buying it in canada, even after shipping + tax :p)

Damn, I ordered a GT725 the first week of July and was told that this would be out the first week of August. The dude still has my money and is going to put it to this thing, but I'm not sure if I made the right choice, as it's apparent MSi isn't the best at getting simple upgraded packages out the door.

The MSI GT729 was labelled 'in stock at supplier' in my retailer for the last few weeks, but it's just disappeared yesterday or the day before. I can still access the page through the old URL, but they've taken it down from the public site.

Not sure what to make of that, some kind of delay or recall possibly...

That's like comparing apples too oranges, those laptops are so different. I'd recommend thinking about (1)what you want to on the laptop, and (2)what you want physically in the laptop. You may need to mix and match some.
For example, If you want the smaller screen, but want to play the latest games on max detail, you'll have to decide which one (of those two desires) is higher priority, because neither laptop does both. Do you see my point? Of course you can also go looking and find laptops you want more... I stumbled across the gt725 on like page 19 of a google search.

Does anyone actually have a MSI GT729 yet? I'm thinking of getting one from xotixpc, it looks to be the best laptop with everything for under $1600. And why do you guys say US people dont get WUXGA, will it just not show up with 1200p or does the configuration change to WSXGA+ when you select your country?

017NL (ie the model in this thread) is a Netherlands model. There are different models for each region, the UK model has a Blu-Ray whereas the Netherlands model doesnt. And there are several US models with different specs and screens.

The best thing is to check the specs for your retailer to make sure you know what screen res and spec it has.

Unless you were planning to get GT729 from EU reseller, then most likely no. Got a forwarded email from MSI NA confirming that also.

hello there, i'm about to buy this laptop (gt 729) and gratefull to this topic.
    some think i have in my mind;
    1) first it was mid august, now mid september. i hope i can get soon... any information?
    2) frostycomputer has some cpu features below the page which i don't quite get realy. there are duo2,53 duo2,8 and quad2,00 options. As far as i'm concerned quad version were coming along with wuxga version and it doesn't seem to bother in laptop details other than the raising price. xoticpc doesn't seem to have such problem thing.
    3) since i live in Turkey i have to find a way to buy it without overbearing taxes (stupid thing realy). i quess thats my problem tho... :(

    1) Rough estimation is somewhere in mid September.
    2) Last confirmation I had, there'll be no Q9000+WUXGA from MSI US, though maybe it's possible with MSI EU. Since frostycomputers is a US reseller, those options you mentioned are upgrades for the basic configuration (P8700), should you choose to have your order upgraded.
    3) I'm having the same problem :)

As mentioned on my previous post, 'maybe it's possible', since difference in US and EU specs did happen with previous GT725. One of the poster (butter30) got his GT729 unit (came with Q9000) from lambdatek.com.

Just sharing, got words that this GT729 shipment from MSI NA will suffer another delay up to early October, while October 1st will be the latest as they promised. Though my enthusiasm towards this model somewhat diminished already, I think I'll stick to this before finally requesting for full refund in case they failed again to meet their promised ETA.

I kept waiting for this to come out and planned on getting it but with another bump in the release schedule to October, sadly I have to drop my intentions on buying it. I have to have a laptop by this weekend due to my wife taking the only computer in the house with her on a long [6 month] business trip. Sorry MSI, you almost had my cash but you keep delaying this thing to the point of having a loss in sale, mine - your loss. Asus here I come...

What would be a sad reason why MSI keeps delaying the release. Instead of giving a voucher for a FREE Windows 7, what if they are just waiting for it to be release so that they can just have ALL their new laptops [that are coming out soon] to have Window's 7 on them already - thus saving them money on bulk Window's 7 voucher purchases...

It really is a very poor and unprofessional approach to a new product release by MSI. I myself pre ordered it via a reseller on the 8th of July. I'd hate to think that MSI are holding back on the NA release to coincide with the Windows 7 release on October 22nd. And even if it's just down to a parts issue, surely they could inform their resellers of the issue so the customer can be kept up to date. It wasn't exactly a low cost purchase for myself.

You know how it is when you go past that point of no return. I've waited this long so I just have to keep waiting now because of the principle of it.

That's what I did. I got so annoyed by the delaying of the release, and I needed a laptop for school so I canceled my order and went the an Asus. Couldn't have been better. I see you're looking at getting an asus, I recommend it. g51vx-a1, cost less than the gt729.

I seriously hope that MSI keeps their promised release date. They have been delaying this for a while. I originally pre-ordered the MSI gt628 but it was discontinued and won't be appearing in the U.S. So I switched over to the Gt729 and am hoping that they won't delay it any more or worse if they cancel it. My fingers are crossed
