Yes thats a very nice mark, and link is active, i think you can change turbo mode % in bios (faisals cores running over 3ghz lol mad) but i dont think 24% increase worked, that would push it even higher :D.

Running into bigger problems. When booting up a screen that says Cataclysm Centre has stopped working pops up.

It is giving me the blue screen of death more often now, and will first start with a green screen. Sometimes locks up in a green screen. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm worried that I may have caused it by uninstalling and installing video drivers, but the screen about the cataclysm centre popped up before that.

I have tried to install the original drivers found on MSI, but this is still happening.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

edit: it locks up even if I'm doing nothing intensive, like being on this forum :(

try to start in safe mode. uninstall the driver from there and run a reg cleaner like ccleaner. reboot and reinstall. which version were you using? 9.1 did throw some blue screens and i know from first hand on my desktop simply installing 9.2 didnt help.

also if you have a service running called Ati External Event Utility set it to manual instead of automatic and try that. that seemed to resolve a lot of peoples blue screen issues with the catalyst drivers

I'd reinstall 8.56 just to be save, as zfactor said, run in safe mode, uninstall, use reg cleaner like ccleaner (good (Y)) and then get hold of the older drivers.

I still think that you should run ozone3d furmark for 5 mins though juts to see if its overheat that is causing the problem or something else.

Well i am having a nightmare trying to install the new CCC, i keep getting the error code 10 when the system re-starts. I have just used the F3 method during start up to roll back to stock settings. Im nt sure whether to email msi to see if they say anything or will they say just upgrade when it is available via there site.

Cheers for the advice, rep added

I would say safe mode it, and revert back to the stock graphics again, then uninstall and try update the new ones (make sure there modded for the mobility radeon rather then the desktop gpu)

Its quite strange for it to do that.

Hi guys, I have been looking thru MSI laptops for a while now. Initially, I was thinking getting a GT627-218US as I have heard Nvidia tends to have better support for their driver than ATi. But having looked at the GT725 in greater depth, I realize GT725 has an unbeatable gaming performance and would be ideal for desktop replacement.

I have looked at this website and they got two models under GT725 (087UK & 210UK).
    http://www.laptopsdirect.co.uk/MSI_G_Laptops_Notebooks/prod.asp

What is the difference between them? Is it just in the CPU (one is dual, another is quad core?) Is the difference worth an extra 200quid? And like the P9500 run at 2.53GHz while the Q9000 only run at 2.0GHz, is it really worth it?

Also, some website reviewed the GT725 as WSXGA+ (1680x1050) instead of WUXGA (1920x1200) is that correct?
    http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=17299&page=2
If I get any one of the above models from the above site, are they going to be in 1680x1050 or 1920x1200?

P.S. does anyone know if the 500GB harddisk come as 5400rpm or 7200rpm? What would you prefer if you have a choice between 320GB @ 7200rpm / 500GB @ 5400rpm?

Sorry for such a long paragraph :p
Just want to clear out some mist before I take the plunge XD :D

I think this is my department lol

    let see

well u said it the main difference is the cpu dual core u got 2 cpu runing at 2.5 quad core u got 4 cput running at 2.0
one other difference is you get screen res WUXGA 1920x1200

question is if its worth the extra £200 well its depend on ur budeget personaly i would nt bz you would nt feel the difference unless u runing cpu dependent games or watch movies in full hd on ur tv screen via ur lappy. but choice is urs

ok dont get confuse here let me make it 100 clear for u msi gt725 087uk come with 17" WSXGA+ TFT-LCD Display (1680x1050) ok

even if a website is advertising 1920x1200 that is wrong as i had first hand experince so be carefull and avoide the disappointment.

if you buy gt725 210uk u will get 1920x1200 res

the harddrive u get is 5400rpm personlay i would prefer 7200 as it faster as well as louder too and u dont really get the choice so u will have to settle for 5400 rpm in uk.

i think that s everything ask me if u have any more questins ok

Thanks for your info faisalhero. I have also been youtubing the GT725 as well and saw some of your clips, the performance is just stunning.

Yer, I'm still thinking if a quad core and high res screen worth an extra 180quid.
I have seen some benchmark between the P9500 and Q9000 as well, the Q9000 do have some advantage over the P9500.

And like most people would say "the future is in the quad core", but no one can tells the future I guess. However I can see more and more games like GTA IV may start taking advantage of quad core processor.

Are you running the laptop in Vista 64bit at the moment? If so, did you have a lot of trouble in finding the drivers at all?

well u are right games like GTA IV use more cpu and the performance will definetly be better on quad core price wise p9500 and q9000 are same

no i am not runing 64bit i m using 32bit and so far i dont see the need if some1 came along and do a better 3dmark score in 64bit than what i got in 32bit than i might give it a go untill than i m happy.

cataclysm: I ran the fur stability test for 5 mins. It ended the test at 84 degrees but didn't crash. Is this a good or bad thing?

I also have 8.56 installed. Not as many lock ups, but if anything more happens I'll do a reinstall in safe mode.

Thats good Sj, so theres no problems with the GPU then :)
And its good to know that lockups are settling, i haven't had any lockups since i bought it, and when i did i somehow steered out of them xD

Although i bluescreened once after maxing clock settings, i dont think this was due to overheat but due to the fact that 8.56 drivers are immature.

Let us know if any more lockups occur Sjaf.

    Ok,

So i am going to try and upgrade my CCC to 9.3 tomorrow after many an aborted attempt.

    1. Firstly i am going to turn off Ati External Event Utility,
    2. Reboot,
    3. Open device manager and uninstall graphics driver.
    4. Reboot
    5. Run ccleaner
    6. Reboot.
    7. Install C9.3 with everything crossed (also can i get a modded version or how do i do that myself ?)
    8. Reboot and rejoice ?

Is there anything else i should do ? on part 3 should i uninstall the driver using the 9.3 update ?

I will cry if this doesnt work again :(

Well, I experienced the cataclyst stopped working at a few more bootups yesterday, so I grabbed ccleaner, cleaned the registry, uninstalled/installed 8.56 drivers in safe mode and restarted.

I have not had much time fooling around with it afterwards, but I did run into another problem! IE will not work anymore, and it's probably due to ccleaner killing a dll file that it needed(guess).

sheesh I have never had so many problems with a new computer before.

I'm considering just using my cds to revert back to manufacture specs, and starting fresh. Don't want to, though!

I'm using IE7 I believe. I'll get that updated and see if it solves that issue. I just can't believe how many issues I am running into!

I think I'm doing the right things to get it error free, but maybe I'll just have to restore it back to default.

Anyone else having similar problems, or am I just a dummy? :)

No they won't. All game currently (and likely in the foreseeable future) only make use of a single core. Some may make some slight of use of a 2nd or 3rd core, but they still primarily rely on running on a single core. If you have alot of background processes or other apps actively running, multiple cores would help smooth performance as there would be other cores available for them to utilize, unless one (or more) of those apps actually happened to be intelligently multi-threaded, e.g. many image & video processing apps.

    <cough-cough>
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=4668960&postcount=1450

I had to mod the driver inf's manually. I used the OEM16.inf or OEM19.inf (i forgot which) as a template for my card. copy and pasted the M9x section and the other section which describes the drivers for this type of card. launched setup. It updated everything but the Display driver. Went into Device manager selected the display adapter. Selected update driver. selected manual update. selected have disc. Browsed to the new inf's used the First one and it warned me it wasn't signed. Told it to bite me and install anyway. been using 9.3 drivers now. Alot smoother since they fixed cpu dependant state games for improved fps. I have had zero stuttering in any games so far. Been a great set of drivers. This alone is worth the update IMHO.

Hi i'm shortly receiving this laptop.. UK dual core version.

Just a few questions. Does anyone know what make/model the internal tv tuner card is and where i can buy one, and if this would involve removing the back plate and invalidating the warranty. Would an MSI service centre be able to install this if that is the case, keeping the warranty intact?

Superb thread so far. So much great information

    Cheers

that is a nice step by step but it does NOT setup the drivers right for the mobility HD4850.

you need to manually add the info for M9x stuff and the other stuff for the card.
    (HDMI yadda yadda)

i would be happy to upload the inf's zipped up they won't be that big. just have no clue how to do that on a forum. i will email you my inf's when i get home. (at work atm)

just replace the inf's and run setup.. then to install display goto hardware manager select radeon card. properties -> driver -> update -> manual -> have disk -> browse to inf in the ati section where you unpacked them.

    Usually c:\ati\catalyst blah blah\packages\driver\something something\chXXXXX.inf

BTW this is ONLY for 32 bit vista. i don't have 64 bit vista or win 7

this is what i added to BOTH inf files for cat 9.3
    then run setup
it will install everything BUT the driver (its not digitally signed)
goto device manager and then select the card properties -> driver -> update driver -> browse my computer for driver -> let me pick from .... -> select have disk -> and point to your modified inf's

he is what i added to the inf's in the appropriate spots. If you read the infs in any editor you will see what parts need to go where.

Disclaimer: I donot guarantee success/failure, BSOD's, Cthulu coming for your soul etc etc if you try this. PLEASE do a system restore point before mucking with any drivers!!!

Dunno if this is any help for vista 64/XP/ Win 7

Hi all, I'm a potential owner of GT725 (hopefully in few days). :p
I got a few questions to ask just to prepare using my laptop.

    1. I know the OS is shipped with 32bit Vista and probably will only use 3GB (if not a bit more) of memory. Is it possible to setup a ramdisk to utilise the rest of the memory? Is it worth setting it?

    2. What's the most up to date MSI official display driver version? Does it inlcude the CCC?

    3. If I do want to upgrade it to 9.3 with CCC, do I need to get extra software just to clean out the original ATi software? And what modification do I need to make in order to make the 9.3 to work?

    4. Finally, I do want to re-install the OS into other language. Is it possible if I just download the OEM vista home premium disc online and install it with my own key?

    5. Cont from above, do I need to make a driver disc before re-installing? Or will the new OS picked up the hardware and install them on its own?

Any answer to these question is much appreciated :)
    Thanks :D

Are you talking about headphones, speakers, or the speakers actually on the laptop because the laptop itself is only 4.1.

you can get the drivers from MSI or the hardware manufacturers. get a list of your hardware details ready just be aware there is no 64 bit program for the multimedia /turbo key. your laptop comes with a disc with the drivers for vista 32.

the 7.1 is for the audio out. as for setting up the speakers on the laptop i too tried to mess around with it. and experienced the same problems. so i left it at default. and the only thing i did was increase the bass output. don't ask how i did that I just tinkered around for about an hour.

    hello
I live in france and we don't have yet any gt725 available.... I am interested in buying an another european version but the problem is the keyboard...
Does anybody know if we can buy a keyboard of an another country somewhere? I think that the GT and GX have the same keyboard, so it must not be very hard.... :)

    Bonne question Rupp3r ^^
Je pense que nous, pauvres français sont coincé avec la version Qwerty (bah on s'y habituera).

Yes it would be really cool to buy an AZERTY keyboard, even if i assume i can totally adapt myself to a qwerty one after few months.

    Edit :
Does the turbo mode works with a 64 bits OS ? I know it seems strange but i've read somewhere that in only works in 32 (i think it's false but we never know)

Go look around the internet for benchmarks of the desktop HD 4830, then add 2-4 FPS to each benchmark.
