Download AIDA64, the trial version can be used for 30 days, so it's way enough. It detects all the hardware of your laptop, so find display-monitor, you'll see the manufacturer and model number of your screen. Go check that model on the internet to find out whether it is 72% NTSC.

Well I guess you may force your laptop to always use discrete graphics by some configuration in NVIDIA graphics control center, but I am not sure.

Edit: AIDA64 also has temp detection.

Can someone please do a skyrim or bf3 benchmark/fps test on ultra/high settings? I'm wondering if the 770m really does outperform the 750m sli.

The nvidia control panel software in your taskbar can be used to manually control whether a program or game uses the integrated graphics or the video card, but you shouldn't have to touch it. The software will pick correctly and you won't even know its running.

This zeros in on a concern I have as well... I plan to buy th ebase GT70 with a 1TB HDD, and upgrade to an SSD or mSata later.

Will the SSD work as well as the mSata? And wil lI need an adapter or anything down the road? I don;t want to get into RAID as I know nothing about it and I'm willing to give a a little speed for security. But will my plans give nearly the same speed as going with msata right off the bat, and wil lI incur any additional costs other than the SSD whenI do the upgrade?

While we're on the subject, will there be an issue doing a clean install onto the SSD rather than the HDD asuming I use the factory installed Windows8?

Are you willing to post where you got the laptop and what screen you got with the uprade? Also, how is it when viewing off center, side to side and leaning the screen up and down... how far can you view off center in each direction before the screen washes out? Also, is there any graininess to the screen? I've read of issues with the issues described above with the stock screen and I'm on the verge of getting a GT70 but I don't know what would be better, upgraded screen GT70 or smaller but more highly rated display on the GT60...

After ~20 mins of BF3 on ultra my max temps were 79C on both the cpu and gpu. Just got the computer up and running so that's all I got so far

I got the laptop from Power Notebooks, I could not be happier with their service. The screen is the upgraded 72% NTSC matte display, more specifically - AUO AU OPTRONICS B173HW01 V5. I just changed over from a Sager with a glossy screen and was somewhat nervous about switching to a matte screen. However, so far I am quite pleased. It's definitely more grainy then a glossy screen - especially when I first turned it on after looking at the glossy all day, but I would not say that the screen is "grainy" if I were describing it. The colors are very bright and vibrant, very noticeable and much brighter and more vibrant then the glossy. But the glossy does indeed look more "sharp". I don't notice any graininess while playing games, really just when looking at a higher definition picture. Again, I would not describe the display as grainy, but it's more grainy then the glossy - and it's noticeable. By far the most noticeable thing is the vibrant colors - that stands out much more then the increased graininess over the glossy.

I use the laptop a lot during the day and with bright lights around me, and the glossy screen was really getting annoying.

Viewing off center and side to side is very good, much the same as the glossy that I was used to. Up and down does start to wash out a little faster but definitely not something noticeable. I only noticed for testing for this post.

So, after an entire evening using this computer let me say there are a few things that stand way out compared to my previous laptops (all top of the line Sagers).

First and foremost - this thing is so quiet. Noise was never an issue with my previous laptops, nor was it a factor in choosing this laptop. However, it is such a huge difference between this and the Sager. I literally don't even want to turn on the other laptop even for a second anymore because now it seems SOOOOO loud. Even under full gaming load, this thing is quiet, and when not gaming - it's pretty much silent. Wow!

Next thing I notice, although I don't have temperature monitoring software set up yet, it's cool to the touch where I lay my wrists and if I move my hand for just a few seconds, like to the mouse, the surface is nice and cool again. My Sager got warm (not hot) around the keyboard and where your wrists would be while typing.

Another very noticeable item is the sound - sounds like good desktop computer speakers - doesn't sound like any laptop I ever heard. Really nice! Loud too! My Sagers never got very loud, this thing is really loud.

    Lovin it so far!!

Just to answer a few questions :

    @android man1990

An adapter is needed for the mSATA. If its a normal SSD, just plug it in and you should be good to go.

    @klag

Optimus does that automatically. When you game, the dedicated GPU comes into play. When doing less intensive work, the iGPU comes into play. If a game doesn't play on the dGPU, you could manually add it to the nVidia control panel.

Thanks for the feedback klag! Great to hear you loving the notebook! But I'm curious, what made you jump ship from Sager to MSi?

Good luck getting yours! The wait has to be tough!

The main reason I changed from Sager to MSI was because I don't play any of the super graphic intensive games like Crysis and others that I see people posting/asking benchmarks for. I just didn't need the top of the line technology and the price tag that comes with it so I was going to go with a single GPU system and MSI just seems to have the best reviews, and be the best overall machine for single GPU. I did configure the Sager and almost went that route, but the MSI was cheaper for same specs. Furthermore, 2 weeks ago when I placed the order, Win7 was on back order for the Sager NP8290 (the Sager equivalent of this machine).

I still cant get over how quiet this computer is. I had no idea just how annoying and loud my old one really was. I have a TV in my computer room that always was parked on 7 for the volume control. Leaving the TV on 7 now seems soooooooooooooo loud! I can hear the ice maker in the kitchen now from my computer room.

Also, when not gaming - I don't even feel any heat or warmth coming out the back/side corner and the bottom doesn't even get warm. After 10 straight hours of gaming last night, it does put heat out of the back/side and the bottom gets pretty warm (like I expected). But just surfing or working on the computer, you could put it on your lap and not get warm.

One thing I do like a little better about the Sager is the vents on Sager blow straight back. The vent on the MSI is in the rear corner and blows out both to the left side and to the rear. So anything sitting on the left next to the computer would feel the heat. But that's pretty small potatoes and not a big deal.

I have fully adjusted to the matte screen, especially as I type this in the day time where the glare is usually quite noticeable. I feel like I definitely made the right choice on that. I'll admit, when first starting it up sitting next to the older glossy, I felt like I wasn't sure I made the right choice. But now, looking back at the glossy it seems so much darker, the colors don't stand out as much (not even close!) and there is a horrible glare that is 10000x more noticeable now that there is a matte screen right next to it. It's still a tad sharper, but that little bit of extra sharpness doens't make up for the rest of the advantages of the matte. Hope that makes sense! Hard to describe in words if you haven't seen both side by side.

    I received my gt60 2OC 003US yesterday ( MSI Canada GT60 2OC-003US ). As of now, I'm still getting used to Windows 8.

For the laptop itself, it's way more sturdy than my previous GT627. The laptop is just... bigger! The power bar is enormous.

I find it more noisy than the gt627. While I was using it, I could barely hear it. Now, it seems like the fan is always making some, I would say, "normal" noise which I can hear.

I'm making office stuff and it stays at 45 C. Yesterday I played SC2: HotS at max and it reached 70 C.

With windows 8 you can burn your own backup image, and reinstall this image onto a new hard drive. Windows 8 has a reset feature built it which is similar to a clean install.

Great info krag, thanks! I've read several reviews denigrating the stock GT70 screen for being dim and grainy, it sounds like you made a good decision to upgrade. One use I plan for the computer is as a movie player, do you thin three or four people in a trailer could view the screen from roughly 6 feet away, 2 feet elevation difference, and side by side, without having too much wash out?

Well I have finally decided to join the GT60 20C ranks! I just pulled the trigger from gentechpc. Totally excited.

$100 mail in rebate was a nice add on as well. Plus they had free upgrades to IC compound and the 30 day dead pixel guarantee.

I have been waffling as to build a new desktop or purchase a laptop and decided that in this point in my life (traveling and kids) that a laptop would better fit the bill. I've been researching for about 5-6 weeks now. I was planning on getting a sager/clevo, but the design touches on their new models are UGLY!

I opted for the 250GB samsung SSD for primary and the 750GB HDD for secondary. Upgraded the wireless as well.

    Now let the waiting begin!

I did an RMA request at ncix for my gt60 2OC. The laptop I received is doing a weird cricket sound which is always there, even on idle. In a quiet room, it really audible and annoying. I don't think it's normal...

It didn't seem to come from the hdd. It came from the fan. When I put it on the ultra fan mode, the cricket sound (which is relatively faint) was getting stronger and stronger.

Laptop arrived today, did some temperature testing and gaming. Furmark originally shot up to 90c and games stayed in the high 70's to low 80s for the gpu playing hawken and 90C range for the cpu. Did a re paste with some IC diamond I had on hand and furmark won't go past 83c now and gaming is in high 70's. Think I can do better with the gpu re paste as I saw much better results from the cpu re paste.

Haven't tried much else yet, but I really wish I could have more control over the fans. Its quiet enough for gaming, but the turbo fan is just ridiculously loud and has almost no purpose. If I could bump up the fans just a little bit more than normal fan speed for gaming that would be nice, I haven't used it for anything other than cooling off the pc faster after a gaming session.

    A few questions,

    1) If I buy the laptop with a Windows Recovery Disk through GentechPC, would it possible to replace the HDD with an SSD, put the disk in and then boot off of the recovery disk by recovering with the system image that I presume the reseller will have on the disk?

    2) I'm probably going to buy the default 022 with the 1TB HD. If I add an SSD to the second slot, how do I ensure that the OS starts from the SSD and most of my stuff is there with extra stuff being on the HD?

    Thanks in advance :)

1: Yes you can use the recovery DVD to boot and restore factory image to the SSD.

2: You can request OS to be re-image to the SSD instead of 1TB HDD.

What software are you using to monitor temps? Is there software that can control fan speed? I've used MSI afterburner on a desktop and wonder if it works with the mobile GPUs.

Which gfx card setup would be better for bf3, bf4, crysis 3, and skyrim? The 750m sli (y510p) or the 770m (MSI gt60 2oc)? Based on notebook check the 770m performs worse in bf3 and crysis 3 according to y510p owners in this thread however someone stated that the 770m is superior in gaming. Is the 750m sli better?

While I am not familiar with the first part of your issue, I can say that my GT70 2OC had no issues updating Win7 or hanging at any part for 15 minutes.

That's a tough call. I think it would be okay for movies because you'd all be sitting back a little further and sitting back the washout isn't nearly as noticeable. If you were all sitting at a desk side by side by side with the computer right in front of you like trying to read small type, you would have washout issues I think.
