Around 35-45 fps with eveything maxed. Turning down a couple secondary settings gets you to 55-60 fps.

Working on it...I have been trying to do so at someone else's request but the current and previous version of GPU-Z crashes when trying to use the Save VBIOS option. Looking at other options right now.

Can you verify that none of the realtek sound "enhancements" are active, and that the creative software's dialog enhancement is turned off?

For bluetooth, I would check that both the SCM and Win 8 bluetooth settings were on, and verify the bluetooth service was active at windows startup.

    Awesome, glad to hear.

I saw in an earlier post when I asked that someone said that the Bigfoot Killer Wireless 1202 is just the N1103 with bluetooth. If this is true then why do they cost more? Is it because of the antenna? Do the antenna assist with signal reception as well as raise bandwidth caps. Also does that mean the 1202 comes with only 1 antenna?

I just got my laptop a couple of weeks ago and I'm loving it. Had to change a lot of settings on W8 to be able to use it, now I feel more comfortable with it.

The guys that are hating it should give it a try after installing Start8 software. It'll create a start menu (w7 alike) and the OS seems a lot better IMO.

I have a question, has anyone managed to run any linux distro on it? I've been trying to run Ubuntu on it with no success. I have discarded UEFI issues, now I'll be looking into RAID/GPU issues, however there are successful runs with the 770m

Hi guys, a quick question about the audio of MSI GT60, I heard that the GT60 audio quality is for sure better than Sager NP8235, but would the audio quality be equivalent once you plug in earphones/headphones into the audio jacks? Or would the MSI GT60 still have better audio sounds in the earphone compared to the NP8235.

Could one of you guys with a system extract the vbios using gpu-z (icon to right of bios version number) zip the saved file up and attach it onto a reply here? Best off using the latest version of gpuz.

The GT60 has an amplified headphone port which can make a big difference depending on your headphones. Otherwise both the GT60 and the Sager use a Realtek audio chip and Creative Audio software. I've read comments about the Sager speaker quality but have not seen one in action.

The amp stage in the headphone jack js more robust in the msi. Last gen clevo/sager had the dac itself doing it (bad idea) but I believe that is no longer the case.

I've hooked my gt60 up to the tv and a few times for whatever reason it would output audio through the laptop. Only way I would find out is when I tried to turn the volume down and the tv remote did nothing. I couldn't even tell the laptop speakers where being used.

after many years lurking around these forums, i've finally decided to join and be able to chime in and kill some time during my job, which gets quite dreary sometimes as I often have to wait on other people without having anything to do (may sound like a dream, but it isn't...).

i live in Brazil, so good laptops are usually VERY expensive here, so i've spent my life around general use desktops and two years ago i bought myself a Sony VAIO laptop that was good enough for me, and i found it at a pretty good price while abroad. unfortunately the motherboard went berserk about 6 months ago, and I can't turn my laptop on for less than 10 minutes without it shutting down due to overheating issues. Then, a new opportunity to go the USA again arose and I knew if I were to buy a new laptop it'd be then. So I decided to get myself a GT60 2OC-022US from GentechPC, with a 4900MQ processor, 16GB of RAM (on their Free 16GB promotion) and an Intel 7260ac wireless card. It is currently sitting pretty at my hotel's front desk, waiting for me to pick it up on August 23rd, and I can hardly wait.

In preparation for this "migration" I'll do, I managed to make an image of the hard drive partitions of my busted laptop in an attempt to flash them in my new MSI and get things exactly as they were before (mostly my iTunes library, which has my iPhone backups and it's kind of annoying to set up from scratch). The problem is this old laptop has Windows 7 x64 Home Premium (which I love and don't intend on giving up on) and I've read on other threads and forums about some incompatibilities it might have with this laptop regarding EC firmwares, BIOS etc as they're all developed for Win8. Would this thread be the right place to ask about whatever doubts I may have on this process? Is it so convoluted and bug-prone y'all would advise me to suck it up and start things from scratch?

I have other reasons for not wanting to get Win8 (I HATE THE METRO INTERFACE) and I really like my Start menu.

    Thanks in advance fellas.

The firmware should be 7 compatible but your old laptop will have a totally different driver set which could cause conflicts.

Actually the amp is overrated imho. I work with pro-audio in my spare time and the difference in quality versus a dedicated dac/amp is very noticeable. Especially when paired with monitor headphones. Also its picky regarding headphone impendance. If only they could fit an Asus Xonar in there.. :)

Got my gt60 yesterday, I'm having weird intermittent touchpad issues where it just stops working suddenly for a short while almost as if it were frozen. I tried downloading and installing the driver from the website though it still happens occasionally.

don't like; the power brick is literally the size of a brick and complaints about windows 8 also some surfaces like the lid show fingerprints
everything else is awesome or at least sweet besides the complaints one would have of any laptop (weight, non-infinite battery, status leds can be bright in the dark, and thanks to win8 no touch screen)

I relocated the little badge stickers (ex Intel i7) to the bezel under the screen and it looks pretty sweet
how is it possible that the power brick is like literally the size of 2 of the batteries stacked together?

The reason why the power brick is so big is simple, that gtx 770m needs it. In theory the 9 cell battery that comes with the computer could power it but it would drain to fast and would damage it indefinitely. Plus the way MSI has designed the 770m to work their hybrid power system, so when you over clock your 770m and it still needs more power it draws a little from the battery. If you read some what into the gt60-20d thread you can learn more and how the whole way MSI set up their hybrid power is flawed in one way or another.

For the fingerprints, as Meaker said to me, microfibre cloths are good for cleaning them off. All the laptops I've had show fingerprints too.

My touchbar thing (with the turbo boost buttons, etc) has some air pockets on the left side of the power button, but I guess there's probably not too much I can do to get rid of them? The right side is perfectly find though...

And is there any fan control software around that works with these laptops? If cooler boost isn't on the fan hardly spins at all (going by sound, it only gets about as loud as the fan is after a second or two of the cooler boost spin up, and only in bursts),

As far as fan tools/programs look into Pherein fan tool, ryzeki who's active on the gt60-20d thread and he did a review on the gt60-20d on his own thread has put that program through its paces (as well as others on those threads have) and reported that it works wonders to fix MSI oem fan profile. Just look through both threads for advise, he even uploaded his fan profile as well.

    Hey all,
Is it normal for the GTX 770M to be clocked at 705MHz? Not sure if this makes a diff, but the driver is 311.48.

Another inquiry, does anyone here play World of Tanks on their gt70? Is it normal for one of the CPU cores to be running at 100%? Norton has warned me twice. Can this be fatal to the cpu?
Also whats the max fps with settings on low?

    Cheers

Thanks, had seem that tool but wasn't sure if it'd work for these new laptops.

Yep. When gaming it'll go up 852MHz or somewhere around there - you can get MSI Afterburner to see the clock speed over time

Hello first time posting here - I just bought a GT70 20C-059US from Microcenter as an open box and received a great deal on it.

    I have a few questions:

Answered -- 1. What Killer Double Shot drivers is everyone using right now? They only one listed on Killer's website is a "suite" when I go through all the ones they have drivers listed they appear to be the same drivers. BUT when I go to the MSI website they have two things listed for the Killer Network "Killer BigFoot Lan" and "Qualcomm WLAN Killer N1202".

When I installed the Killer website drivers and suite the interface looked a lot like win 8 tiles on the desktop.

    2. I have read a number of places about the installing an SSD as my main drive and placing the biggest storage drive I can in "slot 2" (upper left corner). I travel a lot and need to it back up picture files for clients. I burned a set of 4 dvd's from MSI recovery and wondering if all I have to do now is remove the 750GB drive and replace it with an SSD and run the recovery dvd's to get it up and running as my main drive.

Answered -- 3. Has anyone been able to stuff a 2TB laptop drive into "slot 2"?

    4. I flashed with the new BIOS (without RAID) and still have a problem with NUM LOCK coming on when I reboot or start-up my system. Anyone have any idea why this is happening? I have boot NUM LOCK on in BIOS and in registry is it listed as "2".

    5. Am I unable to download new nVidia driver directly from nVidia's website? I tried to get the newest version and it told me I didn't have a system that supported it. Just want the newest version, which I did download from MSI but nvidia has newer ones out.

Thank you for your help and time in answering my questions.

So if I install Win7 x64 and want to update my BIOS, let's say, I don't have to run the installation from within Win8, even though the BIOS was made for Win8?

Regarding drivers, I will attempt to restore my old laptop's drive. If unsuccessful, I'll reinstall Windows 7 on top of my old one to clear the drivers.

If it doesn't work, I'll restore to Win8 and suck it up. Thanks dude

I've been able to use all drivers and BIOS/ECM updates with Windows 7 with no issue. I believe MSI have released Windows 7 version of all the drivers as well so you should be good across the board.

thanks for your reply mate.. i understand now the bios is tied to your motherboard chipset type/version, and not what OS you have installed. it's that MSI says "Do not install this if your laptop came with Win7" or whatever, but they're actually referring to the chipset type/revision/version inside.

can't wait to pick it up!! but i'm afraid i might miss the 1 year additional warranty for registering the product in more than 30 days, as I'll pick it up 31 days after my purchase date... if only i knew it before purchasing..

I wonder if anyone has measured their power draw, and if the 770m gets close to pushing the limits of a 180w supply. The 770m is only 75 watts, a 4700qm is 47 watts. Is it possible for this laptop to exceed 180watts and utilize the hybrid power feature?

    Hey Hellblade ;D

Did you remove the plastic protector on the touch bar? Thats what could be causing the air bubbles? I thought there was a lil' scratch in the corner of the touchbar ( was going crazy because I thought I had been super gentle with the lappy) until I looked more closely, it was a piece of thin plastic, protecting the surface.

I also spoke to a msi vendor in Aus, in regards to the vid card and he told me its not underclocked at all. The gpu core and memory will adjust accordingly to how much the game/program will need.

Btw Thanks for your help ;D

I have run the hybrid power app twice or so while gaming, and on the graph there are a few spikes in time where it's turned on briefly (but the graph has a small time period so it's not really too useful to go by)

No, the plastic protector is still on - since it's touch I though it's a good idea to leave it on to prevent scratches, etc. I realised last night that the bubbles are probably from heat - after playing a game for a bit I noticed that the left side of the touch bar from the power button felt kinda warm but the right side didn't - so the heat probably caused the plastic to unstick. I think I'll leave it on for now, will see how it goes.

    Good to know. Yep.

    Hehe, no problem :)

Guys I am torn between these two: MSI GT70 2OC: 16gb ram+ 7200 RPM HDD=Great Specs but bad size or MSI GT60 2OC 12gb ram+ 5400 RPM+Msata 128 gb... I hate the fact that the HDD's rpm decreased and the 4 gb in ram loss, does the Msata save the day and make it all worth it? How many Gb/s is it working at and how many mega bites does it read/write /second? Can some one also simplify the way Msata works and how to clear the cache from it? I fear the 5400 RPM, 12 gb ram is a step backwards...What do you think? Please help thanks

You should probably check out a reseller's site like GenTechPC, that way you can upgrade to the same specs, have it all covered under warranty and get excellent tech support to boot.

Hi everyone! I'm posting this from my new GT60 2OC-30UK which arrived today! It's very good and very quiet but the temps seem quite high. I've never had a laptop before but it seems to idle at about 55-60 and merely updating League of Legends has pushed it up to 75 or so. Is this bad? If my PC reached 75 I'd be panicking so I'm quite concerned about it...

From reading this thread alone you'll see that usually when it is idling and under load that high it is due to it being the stock thermal pasting of the gpu and cpu. Apparently MSI does a bad job at this and it results in about ~8 degrees higher temps than others. Did you buy it from a large, whole sale reseller?

55-60 is not terrible but others who have had theirs repasted have reported to be getting between 40-45 when idle, rarely reaching 80 when under load. It should also be noted that laptops get hot under gaming but can still withstand temps over 90 but anything below 85 is pretty safe. When it a laptop pushes past 95 into the 100 degree mark then you have cause for concern.

I purchased it from amazon and it came in a sealed stock MSI box so I doubt anything has been done to it. I'll see how it goes, if it overheats out I can always get it returned for being unfit for purpose, right?

Yeah if you bought it from Amazon then it definitely has a stock MSI pasting job which is the most likely reason for the higher than average idle temps. Another alternative could be to have it repasted first with IC diamond, if you are not tech savvy then you could get any laptop repair company to do it for you or, if you have time, call MSI and deal directly with them.

Upon diving into a game of League of Legends the fans kicked in and laptop became quite noisy. The temps then dropped back down to about 55 which is reassuring. I wonder if it keeps the fans off when it's not gaming even if things get a little warm just so it isn't annoying?

That's another thing, the stock fan profiles which MSI use favour subtlety and quietness over performance. The fans are set to spin at a low rpm which isnt really audible, and kick in as the demand increases but still not to the point where its acceptable to most. So, persons have been using programs to set the fan speeds to levels there are comfortable with. Also, there is a dedicated turbo fan button on the touch panel that if you press it, turns the fan on to full blast for maximum cooling. It does keep ALOT of noise, but it ensures your temps are low and comfortable.

Think I posted this in the wrong thread before.

How's the fan noise idle or when light gaming? (Not on Ultra settings or Afterburnered). I have a GT780DX now and idle fan is around 40db about 3 feet away.

Can the GPU be upgraded? Are notebook GPUs generally the same 'slot'.

I'd probably get this on Xotic with IC Diamond Thermal Compound / Copper cooling if that makes a big difference of when fans would kick in.
