to me seems like its graphics driver/directX conflict. Have you ran trough latest windows updates yet? Does that happen when you try play games?

It happens randomly, while surfing on firefox or just in windows. I have no games installed currently. Also, all windows updates have been done. :(

Btw, during these problems, there have been 3 nvidia updates and I have installed those.

Nvidia? What gpu did you change to? If it's a generation 5xx fermi then downgrade to 314.xx drivers as latest drivers crash when flash based softwares load (eg. browsers, standalone programs etc.)

I changed gpu to GTX460M because my HD5870 failed since I dropped my GX660 from my bed :( Actually, this pc is not even MSI, a company called Monster in Turkey, imports these machines, puts Monster logo on them and sells them for affordable prices. The change operation of gpu was done by Monster technical service already.

Thanks both of you for your helps.

Edit: Now I have another question :D Are these temperature values normal while surfing on firefox/chrome? (never launched a game or CAD software)

Hi! Is there any way to make Kepler cards work on the GT663R? Maybe a GPU bios update without optimus?

Yes the 770M is the only one to work (the 765M does not seem to want to either).

^^ temps are great IMHO ;) hardware acceleration, flash content pages do tax GPU and CPU big time so expect sometimes your temps to go lil higher some times due to that, and dont get surprised ;)

If it works the way you are now leave it be. Don't mess around with vBIOSes. You risk bricking your card. Also that is for an Asus notebook. Different manufacturer than MSI. What if the GX660 doesn't support it? You will get a black screen and need to blind-flash your 460m to the original vBIOS or, worst case, throw it away and get a new one. :)

Yeah the asus vbios is a likely brick as their "cards" can be very different.

OK, then. Also, I haven't experienced any BSOD since 2 days. Just this high temp. values get me down :( . 15-16 °C higher than it used to be.

Just to confirm. 7970M from euro com (clevo) HDMI is working fine in my friends gx660r. He is also using undervolted vbios from 1.05 to 0.975 to manage the temps during high load

    Hey GX660R owners!

I have a problem with my touchpad. I replaced the two HDDs and as part of the replacement i updated the bios with the modded unlocked version given in the thread (cause of SSD <--> AHCI issues). I installed Windows again and were able to work with the touchpad. But now the scrolling feature is kinda disabled. Ich cannot scroll anymore. I installed the synaptic driver from the msi web page but the touchpad is declared as a mouse with 2 buttons so i am not able to change anything according to the scrolling feature. Anyone has an idea? Hope i was able to describe my problem with my broken english ;-)

    Greetings!

Hi, here's some clips and images on what I experienced.
    bios screen - YouTube
    bootup - YouTube
    boot menu.jpg windows.jpg windows-up close.jpg
all these are from my external screen. my main screen always stays black.

Do you think this is vbios problem or card problem?

    Hi guys,

I've recently replaced my HDD to a 250GB Samsung 840 Pro.

After flashing the BIOS with the file provided few pages back in this thread I still encouter the following problem...
Like 2 out of 10 times on powering on the laptop, the BIOS does not recognize the drive on which the OS is installed.
It tends to 'disable and enable' at the same time causing the boot order to be messed up, what in the end leads to my problem.

I've tried to replace the SSD by placing it in the other slot. Same story.

Any advice which could help solving this issue?

    Thank you for any help.

Hey there fellow, did you by a chance try to alter advanced sata port settings on which SSD is installed? You should enable sata hot-plug and something else, now cant remember what it is, its been talked about pages back too and you should be able to find quick and easy about it ;)

not SSD driver(but DRIVE - if you made a typo), but more the settings to make all SSD's work in GX660*/GT660*

googled myself few pages back and heres what you need to do:

In BIOS setup -> SATA information -> Switch On "HotPlug" and "PortMultiplier" for the port where the ssd is installed, Make sure Drive mode is set to ACHI and it will all be fine after you save&exit

It's only available in unlocked BIOS.
You have to change "Hard Disk Driver" to "Solid State Drive".

^^^ nope, not necessarily! May well be just bad vbios version flash. Had such experience with past 560m when fitted from dell machine and tried to make it work had to go trough 3-4 different vbioses of same card to make it work and had similar bad imaging (knowing of course GPU was perfectly fine before moving from DELL to MSI) give a try few more vbioses

I've tried more than 5 vbioses if i remembered correctly (dell's 015.017 with different clocks and voltages but never tried the overvolted ones, clevo's 015.019 & 015.022). all with the same results. I did checked the checksum to ensure redundancies. As of now, I put back my 5870M because I thought my laptop's broke that's why is displaying that. but my GX660's fine. The one who sold me the card claimed that it worked on M18x r1 but not on his M17x r2.

    Thank you for the reply,

Unfortunately but I do not have these options available after accesing the hidden settings (SHIFT+ALT+CTRL+Insert).
Instead like in this post: http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/524083-gx660-r-owners-lounge-144.html#post8240849 it looks like here: http://i.imgur.com/Dtvb44u.jpg?1

I assume that I probably did a mistake at flashing the BIOS. But I do not know at which point.

I download the BIOS flash files from MSI webstie, chop them into the pendrive and just overwrite the file of original BIOS with the modded one remembering about renaming file name. The flash process itself goes smoothly but with the same result every time...
    Thank you for any help.

well, once you flash unlocked moded bios, you no longer need this "sucky" keystroke to see all the advanced hidden features anymore, you just get in with [DEL] and off you go :) you've got to browse now well trough whats there its somewhere in "Advanced Settings" tab/field, you will go trough everything till you find that and then you will get set. Just take your time and go trough everything slowly till you find what I have described needs changing in setting ;)

good luck and report back to us after ;)

Still nothing. Tried to flash one more time but it looks like the old bios is still there. After pressing DEL there is the 'normal' menu with very limited selections. No extra functions, no extra fields, no extra items to expand or to choose from.
Slowly giving up hope on this one...

Ok i think i know why it doesnt work. It is a sentelic touchpad not a synaptic touchpad. Is someone able to upload the driver from the driver CD for me (cant find my CD) or anyone got a link for the latest sentelic touchpad driver for the GX660(R)??? MSI is just offering the driver for the synaptic touchpad of the GX660 :-/

IIRC the toshiba cards are a bit different and don't work. You can upgrade the display with the right cable.
