I have the following question. My GT663R-derived notebook comes with a 19.5V 150W PSU. After reading countless forums on the GT66xR and GX660R, it seems that some of these models come with the 19V PSU, the others with the 19.5V variant. Is there any general rule as to which notebook model comes with which PSU rating? Just curious... (as I know one can use either voltage on all MS-16F2 notebooks anyway...)

I believe it is, however the heatsink is not. You will need an nvidia heatsink or you would need to modify your current one and add the corresponding thermal pads to make up for it.

Hey guys. Just a question for the owners of GX660/R, what's your battery capacity? My laptop's about 2 and a half years old and it's battery capacity went down from 87Wh to 55Wh. That's kinda bad in my opinion, because it's plugged in like 90% of the time..

I'm sorry to see people having trouble with the 7970 and vbios, I'm still thinking of picking one up.

    I've come across some, but they have this warning;

Hi it is NOT plug and play for some laptops , you may need to flash vBios
only plug and play on intel Gen 3 PM77 chipset laptops, eg m17x R4, m18x R2 etc

Does this mean it wont work in the GX660R? As I believe that is Intel PM55 chipset. The listing was for a DELL version, as I've been advised in here before is the best to go with. If I was to ask the seller, what version of the vbios should it be?

Also about the heatsink, can I just buy another heatsink and put it in my GX660r? Rather than having to modify my own, since I would have to buy the tools anyway. I saw someone in here mention that the GX60 heatsink will fit in the GX660r, is that true and is it the only one? Where would I get something like that? On here... or just try ebay?

Thanks to anyone that can help.

Any of you know a way I can change my burnt out gx660 motherboard for a good one? Buy new, used, etc...
Tried looking around for ms16F1 but had no luck..
Are other more common boards like ms16F2 compatible maybe?

    thanks

You can send me your damaged mainboard and I can fix it or swap for new one.
For 16f2 yu will need also new sensor board - it is different , comparing to 16f1.

I would rather get a new one, I mean i destroyed the bios, then had the bios chip changed, still did not POST then had the mobo removed again to check if I missed something, then it was completely dead. Specialist said it was fried. Do you think this is fixable or do you have a 16f1 available?

How can I get in contact with you?

You need to get 5 posts on forum and go for it ;). After you can contact with me by sending PW. I can swap your mainboard. More info via PM. Your specialist is amateur ... First of all you need to send your old mainboard to me. I think I am able to fix it if not I will swap for working one.

So you dont know about the bios, but do you know anything about this PM77/PM55 thing? It's just that seems to be what I'm coming across in my search for the cards available.

majster msi, how much would the heatsink cost me?

Thanks very much for the info guys. I do have one more question, does the OEM 7970 work in the GX660r?

The guy selling it, says he hasn't flashed it, but is unsure of the bios version, so I think it should be ok.

It depends on which vBios it's flashed with. Newer models with version 015.022 need a UEFI compatible BIOS from the GX660R. Dell/Clevo put more restrictions with latest models. During startup checksum doesn't get read so the notebook doesn't even POST. No workaround on this unfortunately :(
Get an older 7970m and you'll be fine :)

This. I had a Dell OEM 7970m in my GX660 with non UEFI bios. My card was earlier version Dell card and had vbios version 015.017... Tell the owner to download GPU-Z and check the bios version with that program. 015.017 version vbios will be plug and play. :) And with a 920XM, 180W PSU, the laptop was a complete beast.

Well I heard back from the seller, he doesn't want to go through the effort of changing the card around (the one he is selling is out of the machine), he has two 7970's. Plus he is selling that other laptop completely, but he says the cards are both the same, well they're both 7970 atleast, the bios who knows. He did check the one currently inside and was nice enough to send the details from GPU-Z. The bios reads 015.021, release date April 24th 2012. Theirs other details but I guess those two are the most important. I don't know if that cards date is old enough to be an older card like felix mentioned. However that bios is not the one Talon mentioned, so I guess I'm out of luck :(?

Nope that vbios won't work. I tried personally on a GT780DX and GX660R I previously owned. Before getting the card ask the owner if he can flash it with the vbios I linked you. Also ask him if the card is a Dell or Clevo. Dell cards tend to have better compatibility with MSI notebooks. I bought mine here in the marketplace. How much does he ask for the card? Get some pics of the card from him before proceeding any further.

With this bios my gt680 works fine. I had second Radeon 7970m with the same bios and it was compatible with gt 680. Generaly it is no problem to flash older vga bios, all you need is dell alienware/precision platform to do that. Before buying you can request for flashing to correct version of vbios.

    BTW.
One week ago I sold r7970m comptible with msi and nobody was interested on NBR forum. So decided to sell on ebay full kit for 16f1/16f2 with heatsink. It is very weird that users don`t check marketplace :(.

Is the CPU as tricky? To find the exact correct one I mean, like the GPU? Or will any 920XM work? I may eventually do that upgrade as well, but it's far off from happening right now, I just wonder if companies will make it more difficult to do so.

Guys, I actually ended up buying the card from the marketplace. It's true that the marketplace imo is not well advertised, even though you are far more likely to find what you're looking for there, but something like ebay is simply more popular, as a seller you are just going to get more traffic there I think.

However from now on I will check the marketplace first and then ebay :)

I will let you know how things go when the card gets here, hopefully there will be no problems. Thank you all for your advise and help.

I for one never knew about it, and google results don't help much. And it's not easy to find something you want. Here ebay makes more sense.
Hmm, prices for the card are still over 400usd, i was expecting them to drop already

    Hi everyone

Had my gx66or now for 7 months and have found this odd problem involving the usb 2.0 slots.
I use a wireless logitech mouse and after two weeks of usage the usb wont recognise it any more and after numerous disabling and reinstalls it still doesnt work.Logitech send me a replacement and it works perfectly then after a week or so the nano receiver dies again and the usb wont recognise it at all. I'm onto my 3rd one now and it's done the same and I'm wondering now if it's just my MSI doesn't like logitech wireless mice?

Anyone come across this strange problem? Any other usb device works fine plugged in and is instantly recognised by the laptop.

Many thanks if someone could give me some idea I'm baffled.

Hi guys, I thought I would give an update.

I installed the 7970 today, it works great, no problems. Infact the heatsink I got off majster, keeps the temperature real low, I guess that extra pipe helps afterall.

Many thanks to all of you that helped, especially on the bios part, wouldn't have the card without your help. Thank you.

Not sure if it comes here but...

I own a 683dxr (16f2). If I buy a Dell 7970M vBIOS 015.021, is there 50/50 chances of working because of the bios?
If it doesn't work (no boot, black screen...) is still possible to downflash from usb?

    Thanks!

I tried looking for a definitive answer, but cannot find
We have a sentelic touchpad.. is it multitouch capable or not? I cannot find msi version 9.1 or greater for the touchpad drivers and have not managed to enable multitouch... The sentelic default scroll is beyond annoying.

    Anyone know anything about this?
