Did anyone calibrate the original (1920x1080) screen? I'd like to see if there is noticeable positive difference between default and calibrated.

I doubt if there was a need for ~60% gamut calibration whatsoever.... ?

Hello, guys! I have a problem with my new SSD - OCZ Vertex 4 128gb. I flashed the bios (The version that @UltraGSM shared before here) but I can't see it in ACHI. It shows up only in IDE. All RAID options are disabled but it does't work... Can you help me? Is there something that I'm missing? Thanks in advance!
Edit: Now it is working in ACHI. I found out another bios in previous pages.

Hi I was wondering if you knew a good battery to replace the original, since I can get to barely 2h battery life on it (just watching a movie), and I'd like at least 3-4 hours. So anything you could recommend?

2 hours watching movie ? you're lucky :) your battery is very good shape. I have had GX660R and my battery was about 2h light use, and heavy use about an hour and battery as the entire laptop was new, now have GT683R and battery max 2 h on light use, heavy use about 1h. changing battery may give you max extra 15-30 minutes at the best for the beginning but later you will see battery performance drop to 2h. 2h is a very good battery in my opinion

You are trolling, right? I had 2 hours on my new GX660, now it's barely 45 minutes.

Nope. Screen brightness all the way down, turn performance to power saver (also switches the gpu I think) and that's all I do. I'm also running W8 if that makes a differense, and haven't used my laptop without the cable plugged in more than max 10 times now. (Although it's 2 years old) I think the 2 hours is really bad. (And I don't have the eco mode on, the buttons don't work for me anymore, can't even use the turbo mode, any advice how to fix that?)

[Mod] AMD 6970m voltage mod (*working*)
volt mod but looks like 6990m is too heavy because not really allow to overvolt about 0.1 to 1.2 [from 1.1 v] because got black screen and only restart helping

Im not sure if something goes too hot or voltage is unstable or simply MXM has a limitation. Very funny is that I can run 900/1200 some heavy gaming test [tomb raider or bioshock on highest settings] but on very low almost always hangs on the end even with really low clock like 800/900 and that's not the temperature problem of the card [all 4 measured are near 80-85]. Then i still testing but looks like OCCT gpu3d test almost instanly show black screen = restart msi needed with around 800mhz or even less.

    AMD Radeon HD 6970M / 6990M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-920XM Processor,Micro-Star International Co., Ltd. MS-16F1 score: P4095 3DMarks
    that's probably 900/1200 or maybe less - don't remeber

yes 7970m would be only good way to upgrade to have more REAL power in gaming - any OC can't do this (you can archieve about 10-20%)
But because I'm not really heavy gamer and of course limited by money - 6990m will be more than enough for now and probably for sure half year - already spended on modification & upgrade that msi the same amount money or more than MSI cost me :p (had it about year now )

I don't know how it is with this 460M GPU,but my 5870 (overclocked to 790/1055) doesn't go over 80°C while playing BF3 (with coolerboost turned on it's around 72°C), idle temps are around 45°C. Try to repaste it, that should help.

Guys,I have a question about differences between i7-820QM and i7-840QM. Tell me,why the **** is that 840QM 2x more expensive?! I know that there're higher clocks, but are there any other IMPORTANT differences? I'm wondering to get new CPU again, because I have some nice offers, can get i5-580M or i7-820QM, each costs around 85€, and i7-840QM, which's for 190€! I know that I should get 920 or 940XM,but I'm not going to change my GPU yet and I don't have that money now.

then dont waste that money you got just wait for cheaper 920xm 940xm . i7-840QM is best choice if can be got cheap, but otherwise dont buy anything but XM chip, everyone can tell you that. but if you must chose between 820 and 840 is just clock difference of 100MHz if I recall right, then just buy 820. other than clock differences there is no other differences

Hey guys i got a by of a problem and need some advice,
Back towards the end of November I needed to Rma my laptop , December 1st I filled out the Rma form online come the 14 I hadn't heard back and my warrant was going to expire on the 16th so I filled out the Rma form again and was met by a message that said it was pending and that I should await contact from an agent .... Now we arrive to march I still hadn't contacted. I emailed them and got a response two weeks later saying "Please accept our apologies for late reply, but your e-mail has been received in our junk mail box. Could you please specify whether you have been provided with new RMA number as we have no record of your repair request in our system or mailbox. Thank you," as eventual back and fourths they asked me to provide evidence that I initiated the request in December all I had was my Internet history from the first and fourteenth Friday I revived this "We have been advised by our service PM that unfortunately we cannot accept your internet history as an attempt of the RMA number initiation. Whenever there are any problems with the online application form, the users should e-mail us directly before the warranty runs out. Since the warranty expired nearly three months ago, we will not be able to repair your computer under warranty."
Soo don't really know where to go from here , since this was an error in their system.. Thx

if you feel lawfully correct, sue them trough court if you have enough evidence, otherwise bite the bullet and continue with your life, buy another laptop or get yours fixed with third party shop or by yourself if you're good at it. Nothing more I can say

You are best off leaving it open propped over a high airflow notebook cooler with the original heatsinks.

wrong cooling idea :D soooo wrong

why dont you just take the original heatsink of the GPU, and bend it 180' degree so it goes back over the aluminum surface of the heatsink, and then get any turbine tipe fan and place it on top of the GPU heatsink so it blows solely trough the GPU heatsink fins for you, and your CPu heatsink will blows separately trough you CPU heatsink like now :)

    hehe
no no no :p it's not coooling mod - it's temperature measure mod on live :)
Must in some way running and get warm that gpu to check what components need to cooled (probably found what I need ) then I use that heatsink & fan from desktop card

if i want something like that i buy Scythe "Big Shuriken2" CPU Cooler or previous version - but that not form me because don't want to create "desktop" from laptop

also bending flatted heat-pipes for sure damage it, also anything harder make damage to that heatsinks at all especially connection between heat-pipes and copper
and any bending make heat-pipes make it less good

What drivers are you using with 7970m?
With 13.1+ I've experienced all sorts of freezes and crashes, even at the desktop!

Here is what happened since I've rolled back to 12.8:

Yes 12.8 I confirm to be stable. Using 12.11 latest beta or 13.x (including official WHQL 13.1) cause a lot of troubles including desktop freezes and app crashes/freezes with 7970m.

    Hi everybody
I have an MSI GX660R and i upgraded my gpu to dell 7970m ver:a00 but my laptop is having problems with the start-up. The power turns on but the screen remains blank and I can hear the fan is running but after about 5-10 seconds fan makes too much noise. No boot and no windows.i have 150w adapter and 920xm cpu.
Can you tell me what is the problem? Maybe insufficient power?

your gpu produces no video output =

    a) non-DELL VBIOS GPU

    b) damaged GPU/CARD

    c) damaged motherboard of the laptop

150W is way too little power for your combo, for stable use you must have 180W PSU

I bought it from Riri-Fifi and he says it's brand new gpu with first gen vbios.
I tried back my 5870m and it works again.
150w is little power for sure but i think normally it should boot at least right?

yes it should boot even with 120W PSU, however if you bought DELL 7970m card - it had to work 1st time, otherwise I recommend return suspected faulty card to rirififi, if it doesnt work from the first time I call its faulty, and fixing it with modified bios or other altering will break your chances of return because of tampering with the product you received. If you've been sold faulty you should have been told so and should have paid very little for non functional hardware, otherwise I dont know what to say

    @debianik

    Isn't it a bit overkill :p
The Sunon cooler MSI uses is fine by itself ;)
Anyway where do yu get those constant 12v?

    @lordvader111

Have you tried flashing it? When mounting the card try not to force too much the heatsink into the GPU core. Maybe some part of the heatsink came into contact with a capacitor (those components that look like tiny boxes).
Try blind-flashing it making sure you put the CORRECT vbios. svl7's modded Dell vbios works.
Newer vbioses like ver 015.021 and 015.022 don't. Tried it myself and my Clevo 7970m doesn't boot anymore (foolish of me). Ordered a vbios chip to replace it.
If all doesn't work try contacting svl7 as UltraGSM suggested. He can help you by sending him the card.

vbios of the card is 015.022.000.001
is there any way of getting cards with newer vbios work in gx660??
BTW: i asked him especially for first gen 7970m with older vbios before shipping and he said so..

I believe my vbios version is 017... I will check in the morning. PM me your email and I will send you my vbios. It's Dell card and has been working perfectly since I've had the card. I have Non R GX660 but shouldn't matter.

    Thanks alot
    i have send PM...

    @felix3650
I realized you now from techinferno forums and good to see you here also :)
    i haven't tried blind-flash yet and it's a bit dangerous for me i guess,
right now i am planning to get the card to a dell service and ask them to flash...
i have read a blind-flash technique somewhere i dont recall that use vga cable to flash via TV or second monitor...

Is there anything to know about flashing the card??
can we flash any 7970M Vbios to any 7970m card?

    Hi lordvader111

Your options are 2: have it flashed by someone who has an Alienware/Clevo notebook or desolder the vbios chip and have it replaced (with a new one from svl7 carrying the old 015.017 firmware). Since you're going to a Dell service option number 2 is filtered out :p
You can downgrade vbioses on 7970m cards as they are basically the same hardware wise. The only difference resides on the vbios which initialises the GPU during POST. Some vbioses however aren't compatible with the notebook's bios (the reason why they don't boot). My GT780DX does not use the integrated Intel GPU so when I flashed a Clevo 015.021 vbios from a Clevo p370em, I got a black screen and no boot :p
Anyway good luck for everything :)

It works on Enduro enabled Clevos (so p150em and p170em) also on a Clevo p370em as a secondary card :)
If you can get hold of someone with these models then you're ok ;) notebook bios should be latest however to support UEFI (something MSI doesn't provide on it's older models which is a shame :/ )

It looks like more people are having issues with the newest Dell cards :( From my own experience with them, the cards shipped with the 021 or 022 vbios are working randomly in the MSI systems, some cards do, some do not...even though some can work in my 16F2, does not mean they will work in other 16F2, 16F1 or 1761 systems :(
The ideal solution, as proposed by Felix3650 (hey mate), is to implement a chip with the older vbios.

    Good luck.

Hi guys. Maybe a dumb question, but I really don'T know much about it so I better ask you. What's the difference between processors named (for example i7-840QM) ESQS and SLBMP? And will SLBMP work in GX660? :eek2:
