Yeah, but nothing, problem remains the same. Can default options prevent laptop from normal boot?

Err, what's happening when chip is dead? Laptop even just don't start fan, isn'it?

gaming screens not needed because already shows some problem

try second tool Resplendence Software - LatencyMon: suitability checker for real-time audio and other tasks - maybe shows something interesting
edit - and please show throttlestop :)

then the power drawing isn't really big for that xm cpu
wonder if you measure idle and only load of gpu (furmark, kombustor) - for mine gtx285m is around 100W on the wall of course

my idle temp is bigger than yours because i use msi on legs not on table or with additional cooling or adding heatsinks (that i think do it near future because it looks like good option)
ambient temp 25 - 15 maybe im not remeber
important that need to use default fan speed = to loud for me :p but if i get xm (qs probably not oem ) i can live if i get with 4core 3GHz+
if not it's not too good option to upgrade because not every game need 4core and also 4core even highly clocked don't add to much fps is base fps is lower (for example 40Fps).

    =========edit2
reset bios and also try run with single ram on different slot
i think laptops always try to start if even cpu broken but shows nothing

With the 27/26/25/24 tdp/tdc 90/81 TS profile selected the laptop is drawing 40W with the LCD off (output via HDMI) while i type this. High performance power plan selected. Temp is 45 deg C (ambient temp is warm - over 20 deg C)

With the old ram it lags too. Yeah, the gpu get overclockt too! But that is not the problem! I have overclock it to 810mhz/1500mhz.

Because if I set the max turbo at no overclock and click at the turbo button so the gpu overclock it self it do not lag.

can you search if available for spread spectrum and change it to opposit option

also try run mem at def speed but dont change oc options

    edit
    last question about lagging :p
it lags under idle with turbo not with some load ?

    Okej ;)

I have the bios the computer come with ;) Originall :)

spread spectrum? what is that? DEF speed?

when i have my old memory i come up to 24% oc with 800mhz at the memory but now i dont come so high. Even if i use 800mhz. It lags when i play bf3 but if i play games that dont use so much cpu power its cool.

For those interested about powerful PSU with expanded laptop:

after some little research I've done it seems the Pavilion HDX9000 PSU 180W (9.5A) should be fine with our GX660 (plug size: 7.4mm*5.0mm)....

Hi, yes I have nearly bought one myself but then I remembered one thing about HP PSU's from own experience, it wasnt one of those 180W puss but lower rated HP psus, many of those gone dead just over 12months of normal use, and plus you need to get appropriate plug for GX660 to solder on HP laptop charger wire, other than that specs meets the requirements , but another tricky thing is the HP psu's contain 3 wires in cable, +V20 / -V20 / ~signal Wire , signal wire apparently activates one of the other two lines or something, so I just kept my a$$ away from trouble and got proper charger at first go

Naah, i7 840qm is very powerful for 45W! The most powerful 4+4core with good performances for that power. I didn't want to buy 55W TDP hotter cpus... (moreover, I've paid it less then 150€ from ebay!) ;)
Everything is smooth now with 7970M, except Crysis 2 (only sometimes randomly) when everything is EXTREME or ULTRA. If I low down shadows and particles to VERY HIGH it is (DX11 vs DX9 nothing changes instead)... With Catalyst 12.7beta it seems even better (just installed!).

    @UltraGMS
Where did you buy the 180W version? Couldn't find on the online shops in the EU (only from USA).

I bought one trough friends friend in china lol long storry short, I spent like nearly month looking everywhere and no genuine stocker, everyone wanted advanxce payment with no stock and offered 25-35 working days delivery, thats no good to me so last try was the friend in china, and I was lucky. I did get the US version however, anyway as we all know everything is made in "china these days" :) worked out approx 120usd I think, cant remember, heavy unit steep on postage. There was one more supplier in netherlands but you will have to email him, he appeared after I got my charger.
Ive PMd you the email of contact

    Cheers

Hm, what temps do you get? Do you use cooling pad? Have you test battlefield 3?

Because i want to buy a 840qm instead of a xm cpu because the xm cpu is so hot! And the 840qm is cheaper ;) But if the 840qm bottleneck the hd7970m i will buy a xm cpu.

Btw, do someone know where i can buy a 3D screen to my laptop? I want to replace the screen, i want a 120hz screen.

The 840qm is a good CPU and it si true xm processors are hotter. But, the xm processors are also massively more powerful. In the end only few games so far have given me a bump in performance due to the CPU, like Skyrim which almost doubled its performance.

And that temp is fine for the GPU, when you reach 90C then start worrying. Always keep vents clean and be a happy camper.

Okey, but if stress test it at 3ghz with prime95 and use furmark to the gpu which temps do you get at the cpu and gpu?

Btw, my neighbor who have a ASUS G7* gaming laptop. The fan at the laptop doesnt sound so much like MSI laptops. Why do MSI only use 1 fan? If you ask me i would say they are idiots...

Single FAN design is little lame when you think of physical and graphical design of MSi chassis looking from behind, they could have easily made twin fan system with GPU heatsink at the opposite side of the back of the laptop with its own dedicated FAN, yet to make CDROM fit lower closer to the front of the laptop at same side where it is now, which would improve cooling down so so much and would reduce noise levels to minimum, also would make these MSI's so much more desirable to own.... but now for single FAN design as if your CPU heats up but GPU havent, FAN is still forced to cool down both at the same time just to fulfil one of the components temperature tolerances, not that there is a downside for cooling, no, just the unnecessary noise it makes due to higher rpm it produces to create higher air velocity, because exhaust ports air output are larger-greater diameter (double the exhaust size, looking scientific) we may think there is air leak in the FAN assy , 50% of FAN pushed air gets out trough elsewhere... OH no, trough another heatsink! lol then computer fan needs to spin 50% higher rpm than any other laptop with good twin coolers, to compensate lack of airflow which is 50% ... so but when you think of people who look for most out of their money performance wise they go for desktop PC really, or when they downgrade from desktop to laptop with desktop like performance most dont want to spend too much of money, here comes MSI GX and GT series single fan, yet sufficient to cool things down but, lil bit noisy due to fan higher rpms. Not that I notice that "noise" really, but would you ever play in total silence games like BF3 Crysis and etc etc, you wont give damn browny what noise your laptop makes when you crank all the power out of it doing something intensive and when it performs at your command as you wanted it. If your MSI is noisy at idle, then you either need cleaning at air-vents and fan, and repaste and redo thermal pad job so it stays whisper quiet and cool

I Ran my 940XM @ 4x20 multipliers (2.66Ghz) I hit between 90-92c If i remember correct, it was the long run of wprime 1024 run, and room temps between 23-25c

5870m GPU never hit more than 86C on stock clocks for me on any benchmark if I recall correct

Review Intel Core i7-Quad "Clarksfield" CPU Refresh - Notebookcheck.net Reviews

As you can see here from a comparision i7 840qm is very close to i7 940xm but it's cheaper, needs a less powerful PSU, and you gain -10/15°C with almost the same power, especially in games. I've done this choice very carefully for my laptop! ;)

Got the Targus 150W PSU in the meanwhile from Amazon.it for EUR 34,97. Works fine, solid, silent, perfect.

About my new AMD 7970m (hi pau1ow! And thank you! ;)), now Skyrim does 80-82°C max (and here in Italy we currently have 30-34°C and high humidity) after some hours, without forcing Turbo-fan. Good.

Hey hexaae, can I ask which heatsink design do you have? 2 or 3 pipe 5870 heatsink?? I have my 7970m on the way and just wanted to see how it might perform with the 3pipe design.

    Thanks.

Hi buddy, many times I have quoted myself before and I will do so again, because its hard for new members to find non-sticky posts lost in random pages of topics
As with any modified bios flashin, any damage caused its your own responsibility, and nobody else is liable for damages caused but yourself letting in to modded bios flashing procedures. Im using this BIOS successfully for over few months no problems whatsoever, so if you do everything correct it should work for you too. The only option you need to change in bios is to find your SATA options, enter PORTS TREE VIEW and find your SAMSUNG SSD, options to be changed are : Port Multiplier : ENABLE / Hot-Plug : ENABLE , the rest shall remain as it is. If you fail seeing your SSD in that BIOS SATA TREE VIEW mode, select your SSD as IDE in primary SATA SETTINGS , save and reboot, then again enter BIOS, alter necessarry settings as I listed above, then move to primary settings before you save &exit bios, change SATA mode from IDE to ACHI, and then Save&Exit from bios, confirming with "Y" and your SSD will be properly visible. ;) enjoy BTW be very cautious about other settings in bios, I suggest dont touch anything else unless you are an expert, and also not all unlocked bios settings has hardware parameters to control specific options/tasks listed, its due to the nature of BIOS, it has not been written from 0 to what it is today, it is one of universal BIOS versions which is altered for every other PC prior manufacturing, vheapre manufacturing option :) it works but may be little tricky seeing so so many weird features in bios, and especially not all will listen to settings command, and if some set wrong you may prevent your PC from booting/posting at all, so be ultra-carefull what other sett]ings you alter(if you will any) Other than that - ENJOY
