is there a way to controll speed of fan manualy?
not by pressing turbo fan on/off off course ;D but to set manualy 20% for example?

I gave you a specific model of display. It doesn't get more specific than that.

When a company lists a system model all they do is have any old compatible display (they all share the same kinds) and ship whatever is cheapest for them, so you're guaranteed a poor quality panel.

    Look for specific panels.

You can change some of the higher temp fan controls with the unlocked bios, but idle not so much. No specific speed settings.

It's shame that msi didn't make option for underclocking cpu and gpu very low only for surfing the net and reading ebook's and stopping the fan completely ,,,I have 5 years old core 2 duo laptop and the fan is off all the time the fan thurns on only when cpu on high load but on gx660 fan is allways 30% realy annoying when reading ebooks.and surfin the net.
Im realy thinking of what I boght when I took Gx660
Bad Touchpoad, Bad Keybord , Bad Lcd Panel , BAd Hard drive failed after 3 months 500gb seagate 7200rpm the service gave me old hard drive with 10 000 start stop cycles they didnt give me the new one, annoying fan ,Bad quality webcam,Low quality Plastics! I paid 1500$ for it!
IS it worth the money ...I dont know really!?... What do you guys think?
Im really disappointed in MSI! :(

Your old Core 2 notebook did not have a GTX560/570/580/HD5870 in it, without optimus I doubt you could run that passive at low clocks.

At the end of the day its a gaming machine. I'm VERY happy with mine.

To be fair the fan is hardly loud on minimum and while the alienwares can shut off they are far larger or less performing.

Also the superior speakers in the MSI can easily go over that fan noise.

We need to get the gx660r into a price perspective. My 2007 Dell M1730 is better in everyway to the gx660r (excluding GPU and CPU obviously) but the M1730 was £1900!! The GX660R is about £900 and NO laptop can beat this laptop for price.

M1730 was bigger, had GF8 series chips which died very quickly, less ram slots and worse speakers.

You can find a cheap 15.6" quality FHD panel for not much too.

    For 1000£ you can buy Dell XPS L702x 3D Intel-Core i7-2670QM 2.2GHz 8Gb RAM 1333 , 1TB HDD , Blu-Ray ,17.3'' LED FullHD ,9 cell battery ,
    Nvidia Geforce GT555m , Win7HP 64bit
Its in every way better than GX660!!!

    I should't ever buy GX660! Period!

    GX660 is Joke!

Ha! Apart from the fact the ATI 5870 will hammer the GT555 into ground! What the hell is the point of having a 1920x1080 screen when your gpu is so poor you've got put up with crummy texture settings and choppy framerates.
With gaming laptops GPU and CPU rule! End of!
    Portability/battery life/heat/noise/etc is all secondary.

Linky: Mobile Graphics Cards - Benchmark List - Notebookcheck.net Tech

HD5870: 40th position in the charts.
    GT555: 65th position

Does anyone know of a better sound system that whats on the GX660r?

I bought my GX660r brandspanking new for £900 last year, you show me a laptop with better gaming specs for that money!
    HD5870 1Gb ddr5, i7-740QM, 1Tb Raid HDD's, 6Gb ram, DynAudio sound.

I got i5 2.4ghz, 500gb hdd hard drive which broke after 3 months junk, 5870m, 4gb ram 1033Mhz, full hd led display which is junk washed colors no black's ...bad angles.junk, keybord flexing junk, touch pad junk, web cam 720p white noise junk, plastic case junk.
I got a lot of JUNK for 1000£
    Compared to Dell XPS L702x 3D Intel-Core i7-2670QM 2.2GHz 8Gb RAM 1333 , 1TB HDD , Blu-Ray ,17.3'' LED FullHD ,9 cell battery ,
    Nvidia Geforce GT555m , Win7HP 64bit for 1000£

I know that the 555m is not as fast as 5870m but its only 20% slower than 5870m. DEL XPS-but you can allways upgrade graphic card to 6990m for 250£ which is twice as fast as 5870m.
I know for shure I will never buy Msi again ever.

The HD5870 destroys the GT555m so much that you could run the slowest Core series CPU with the 5870 and the GT555m on the fastest Core 2nd gen that it would make 0 difference, the 5870 machine would be superior in every way in games.

The only machine where the 555m is not soldered in is the MSI GX780, no dell consumer machine has EVER used MXM, only the alienware notebooks so good luck upgrading that dell.

    1) AUO B156HW01 V4 I see listings on ebay, there is no other panel that compares if you want the best, 95% colour gamut, good contrast and viewing angles. I won't answer this question for a 4th time.

    2) Backlit ones require an extra power connector the gx680 does not have. If it feels spongy you can add some thin foam between the case a keyboard at the top left and top right, makes it feel like a new keyboard.

    3) Touchpads are often glued on, if yours is not synaptics then it could be a case of getting a replacement lid and attaching it yourself, sourcing parts is HARD. If it is synaptics you wont find better.

    4) I think webcams are pretty generic so you can look into getting another.

I cant order from ebay in my contry :(
I contacted a laptop service and they said that tomorow are gona look for that display but if they cant find that specific one what should I do ? can I install any lcd pannel 15.6 inch ?are the connectors the same,,One more thing i dont like LED blinking frequency when the backlight is thurned to low is it possible to fix that somehow when you move you hand in front of the display you can see the blinking between the finger on the moving hand.

So is it possible to take the power from sata hdd to voltage stabiliser chip and then to the keyboard? For that extra power connector or it cant be done? Is it just Power like 3 volts or something? Does The Keyboard from gx780 physically fit in GX660?
It probably could be done with some soldering ;)?

Its sinaptics touchpad but it has old firmware I can't get multi touch on it ..is it possible to upgrade touchpad firmware via windows or via external programmer
is it possible? where to find the new firmware?

webcam change is a must it has wery bad white noise if you know what I mean? ;)

    Thanks MEAKER!

I assume you have a 1080p display at the moment?

The keyboard physically fits, so if you have some way of powering the keyboard then fair enough, you wont get its programmable functions though.

I don't know about the synaptics update, are you you sure its not Sentelic?

Yes I have 1080p screen at the moment , very bad viewing angles, no good blacks ,,,colors washed out...
I contacted the laptop service guys and they said that they dont have the AUO B156HW01 V4 (matte) but that they can order it and I need to wait 10 days for it ..price is 130euro for v4 and 140euro for v7.is this to much?
Do I need a Longer flat cable? or the stock cable will work fine?
I found on the forum few more panels I think are gonna work with gx660 I know you said AUO B156HW01 v4 and v7 but wich one is better?
I need your Personal Opinion on that,
which one is the best I was thinking of LG but I dont know wich one to choose?
I assume that these lcd panels all work on gx660?

    LG LP156WF1 (TL)(B1) - by NoSlow5oh
    AUO B156HW01 v4 - by chanman
    LG LP156WF1 (TL)(B3) - by jnguye13
    LG LP156WF1-TLF3--?

Any of these screens should work:
    AUO B156HW01 v0 - glossy, 300 nits of brightness, 60% color gamut
    AUO B156HW01 v1 - matte, 300 nits of brightness, 60% color gamut
AUO B156HW01 v3 - matte, 220 nits of brightness, 60% color gamut (the one the HP uses)
    AUO B156HW01 v4 - matte, 270 nits of brightness, 95% color gamut
    AUO B156HW01 v7 - glossy, 270 nits of brightness, 95% color gamut
    LG LP156WF1 (TL)(B1) - ???, ??? nits of brightness, 60% color gamut
    LG LP156WF1 (TL)(B3) - ???, ??? nits of brightness, 60% color gamut

So Higher the Color Gamut is better right? Or Im missed something ;)

I was thinking if the keyboard fits and all connections are the same except the power conectors thats 2 pins why do you think the programmable function will not work? If the program controlls the keyboard? Or its because of different motherboard?

It says Synaptics Touchpad V6.2 on PS/2 Port ---V6.2 is old firmware and dont have multi touch v6.3+ ones has.

I don't have the AUO v.4 screen but I have the LG and without seeing the AUO I can challenge the AuO screen haha. Its really good, great colors, contrast and it has blacks, good viewing angles too.

Tho I think mine is A1 or C1... forgot.

So you need to send NB to service. :( . Do you have oryginal msi gx660 or whitebrand? Only oryginal service msi can fix this isue. Swap of touchpad will not help. It is bigger part wich should be replaced.

    Best for gx660 - i7 920xm or 940xm. My i7 920xm costed me around 100$ but it was extra sale :).

best CPU is 920xm or 940xm but 940xm is useless as you can use throttlestop to use quad core 3.2 ghz. 920xm on stock is near the 2630QM in performance.

The HD6990m costs around 450dlrs, HD6970m costs around 360dlrs. I say you should wait for the HD7000 series before upgrading and see whats up. At least thats what im doing.

and either the AuO or the LG will be monster upgrades, believe me. The difference I think is that the AuO is matte? I don't remember. But at any rate, im pretty sure they are both very high quality.

100 bucks for 920xm thats great I dont think if Im gonna find it for that price

    Intel Core i7-2630QM @ 2.00GHz passmark points -6,328 FCPGA988 socket
Its not supported by gx660 motherboard? :( 300$

    Intel Core i7 920XM @ 2.00GHz passmark points -4,467 PGA988 socket
its supported by gx660 motherbord 300$ on ebay

    Intel Core i7 740QM @ 1.73GHz passmark points -3,582--> stock gx660R

    Intel Core i5 450M @ 2.40GHz passmark points -2,464-->gx660-->I'm here hahaha ;) ouch! :)

Im thinking of Buying mate screen probably the AUO your LG screen is not Mate ???? Which one is better? (Mate or Glossy)???

I fixed flexing problem of the keypad with some High quality Cloth electrical tape :)
I put some tape(A LOT!) under the keypad :)

Fixed sensitivity of touchpad installed synaptics drivers and in settings changed sensitivity to light touch and then uninstalled synaptics drivers because synaptics doesnt work good and after uninstallation light touch settings worked no matter of uninstalled driver ;) windows 7 x64 registered touchpad as ps2 compatible touchpad and light touch setting is working great ;)

Yea Im gonna wait too for HD7000series ;)

i5 450m CPU has Integated graphics what does it mean? Can I thurn off hd5870m and use cpu's integrated graphics? I'm confused??? :(

Showing off our Passmark CPU scores are we?!

The 2630QM turbos at only 2.9Ghz on 4 cores... not that much power. I'd say the 920XM OCed comes between a 2670QM and a 2760QM

So, Ive noticed on the specs for the 920xm that it only draws 10w more than my 740qm. Can anyone comment on whether my standard Liteon psu will manage to power the 920xm without hiccups?

I know at a later date I'll be upgrading the psu, but that will happen when I get a new GPU.

Does anyone have a link to enabling all four cores on turbo boost? Or does it work by default?

    Thanks
    Mick

@m11kkg The PSU will manage the 920XM and your 5870M just fine, but you will need 180w when you upgrade the GPU as well.

All you need is ThrottleStop to overclock the 920XM, it's really easy to use and there's a guide for it on the forums.

Only difference between 660 and 660r is a bios version and 2 hard drives. So you flash 30l bios and you have 660R.

@Ryzeki"I don't have the AUO v.4 screen but I have the LG and without seeing the AUO I can challenge the AuO screen haha. Its really good, great colors, contrast and it has blacks, good viewing angles too. Tho I think mine is A1 or C1... forgot."
LG display is very good, I have been swapping some damaged lcd panels in gx660 from AUO to LG. LG was much better.
